As part of the maturity, I would question if a 9th grader understands the commitment required of a student/athlete at the D1 level? I would imagine that a lot of kids are chasing the jersey that they see on TV as opposed to the parchment from the institution at the end of 4 years. This is something that each family needs to evalaute for their child. I also believe, perhaps wrongly (many opinions on this), that a talented lacrosse player will find a spot regardless of when they commit.
