The Teams that play smart lacrosse and play a team game will win championships. Coaches who allow selfish play will almost always pay for it in the end.
Teams that win championships will have:
Solid Team Defense. Well coordinated and agressive re-defending. Competitive team draw control. Limited unforced turnovers (especially while clearing and including foolish selfish shots). Smart unselfish offense.
Obviously a team needs to have talented athletic players but in order to win a championship there must be strong leadership and coaching.
Me first run to the goal and shoot attitude will almost always result in a turnover (easy save, checked stick, charge, pipe etc...) when the team can least afford it.
Coaches who tolerate selfish, me first, run to the goal attitude (especially vs lesser competition) will not win in the playoffs. Stat padders rarely if ever help their team in big games.
