They will need to play with their age or up. A younger girl can play up in an older age group, but not down in age. Age groups are determined by 9/1-8/31 of given years. So for instance, generally speaking, if a girl was born between 9/1/00 and 8/31/01, they "should be" in 9th grade this spring (or 2019 grad year). I they r, they will stay w the same aged girls. But if instead, their birthday is in this range, but they are a 2020, they will now be playing w a lot more 2019s, because that is their general age cohort.


And that's generous. My daughter is born in late Sept. 2000 and is, age appropriately, a 10th grader. there are a lot of kids in our town who are born earlier in 2000, but are 8th graders.


A kid born before Sept 2000 in 8th grade is double hold back in almost every state in the country. That's unreal. I think a few states use Aug 1 as the cutoff, so an Aug 2000 would be a single hold back in those places, but that kid would have already been one of the older kids in the "correct" grade. Hope the holdback was academic.
