BOTC is opening our Fall 2015 through Summer 2016 thread covering the Girls 2020-8th Grade age group.

So let me hear some thoughts on fl$, Liberty, Legacy, Elevate and Express? I don't care if you are a squeaky wheel / axe grinder-- I just want to hear the skinny and I'll determine if you spouting gospel or your just plain nutz. Either way, makes for good reading.
Obviously, I'm interested in good/bad just nothing about individual players... not that this should need to be said.

legacy others are a waste m

Call around and talk to the clubs before you commit. DO NOT BELIEVE everything you read on here. For instance, fl$ is just a horrific girls program, so is 91. They are a boys program that collects checks from the girls. My fiends kids played on their 2018 girls team and had an awful experience this summer. They did not win one game and had zero coaching. Call programs that are DEDICATED TO GIRLS Its a lot of money, do some research before you spend it.

Thx for this! My daughter is coming off a team that was completely bent on taking money from the girls teams to bolster the boys operations.... so I hear you on that.

there are caveats though...even some of the "girls only" LI travel teams are only in it for the $$...there is no real difference from a boys program that adds a girls team or two versus a "girls only" program that just adds teams at age levels (A, B or C)to pad the account...there are a couple of North Shore programs that come to mind...especially at the 2020 level..so even though a director will blow smoke and say how devoted they are to the girls, be careful--it is a biz to them and nothing else!

Completely not true. We did them both. Girls programs focus on the girls. Boys and girls programs focus on the boys. Yes, they both want to make $$$'s but at least they focus on the girls.

I'd have to think the latter is true- If there are boys and girls the money goes to the boys over the girls, if there are only girls the money rolls downhill from A, B, C, etc. OR in a more sinister view the money goes A only and then B and C get the crap end of it while the overage goes in the coffers.

think my point was not that the "Girls Only" don't concentrate on the girls, but that they become just a program that endeavors to bring in as much cash as possible--even though a watered down program is ultimately what happens ..the idea becomes to create as many teams as there are girls willing to play/pay. If anyone thinks that there is a girls (or boys) director who gives a rats patooty about their "C" level teams (or even most of the "B" teams) in their own program, you are kidding yourself. The lower tier teams are just funding the gravy train.

You'd think you were playing for a mom and pop operation not one that has 10+ teams in motion. Parents unfriendly, training SUCKED, yet playing time good however. I'd find it impossible to believe the lack of training and lack of organization was/is due chiefly to energy and money going into the boys... that or they are only about the money and not the experience.
This is our 2 cents from experience; Fans keep your barbs to yourselves, this was very much our experience, not just hearsay or rumor.

TG is awful. Smoke and mirrors. No training. Politics galore!!
People are finally starting to see what this club really is. A sinking ship.

Nobody trains unless you pay xtra. YJ practices once a week . That's it

No training? 20 practices next year, and they make up rained out practices (this year they did), unlike other girls programs.

But there is a lot of politics. Many girls on the younger teams, are not correctly placed. They seem to cater to West Babylon and ESM girls.

As far as these organizations go, I believe that Legacy is your best choice. Legacy was a very good team for their first season.

How did the Icon 2020 and 2021 girls teams do in 2015? Will they be adding new kids? Would you consider these age groups competitive with top teams or more of a B team? Any other programs in the western part of the island worth looking into for these two age groups? Trying to help a buddy out. Thanks for any feedback.

They aren't really tryouts anymore. Just a glorified very expensive walk on because everyone takes everyone. The only thing in question is what color team you play on.

They can compete with "C" teams, maybe some "B"

western Nassau has Liberty and couple of south shore teams...but beware--Liberty director is Manhasset coach so "A" teams are stacked with future Manhasset HS players..very rare if non-Manhasset kid makes an "A"...there are token few

Does anyone actually know someone who isn't playing on a team that wants to? I didn't think so. If you write they check, they will have you. Good luck this tryout season.

That's kind of a skewed view. Of course there is a place for every girl to play. Are you trying to say that there are no tryouts for the A team on a club? That's silly. I guess at the end of the day, there are really less than 10 top clubs in the nation. So if you are trying to play for an A team on anyone else, you may be correct.

Pretty sure their point was that travel/select teams used to be just that - for the best of the best. Now there are so many clubs and so many teams per club that anybody who wants to play can. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it has turned into an extension of PAL - just way more expensive and you don't play with your school mates.

Even the biggest program on Long Island recently changed their mission statement because it isn't just the elite anymore, it's anyone that wants to play as long as they are ok on the 4th, 5th or 6th team in an age group.

Guess that's more of an LI issue. I don't know of a single program in MD that has more than 2 teams per age. I guess there are many more options down here.

First of all, who are you, really? Being registered with a screen name does not make you shine under a spotlight.

Now, rather than attack a club for what we have seen as unacceptable behavior and business practices we don't concur with we just don't don't offer them any exposure. The same goes for their tournaments, tryouts, camps, and clinics if they have them and choose to promote them.

These are our opinions based on what we see. This is how it is in a youth sport that is not very well controlled and where serious money is involved along with the involvement of minors.

Strong showing at the Legacy tryout for this age group. 75+ girls and a lot of talent and relentless hustle. Great jobs ladies! Good Luck!

It looks like there will be plenty of movement from clubs this year in this age group.

Anyone have an opinion about the changes on the Girls side over at Express?....looks like they sent out blast that MC will now be new girls director....in the past express has been very weak on Girls side..wondering if this will get program moving in right direction....

It was TERRIBLE last year. They didn't seem to care about girls program at all. Weak coaching at best. Only changes I saw were related to who's directing--- does that really matter if they don't care about the program?

Any girls trying out from other clubs top teams , if so what clubs.Good coach at the 2020 age and he did a lot considering a first year program and most of the team came from other clubs b team .

A lot of girls tried out for legacy. I would say about 75 is correct. I know I seen about 8 TG girls . SL had a great turnout. Many girls that can play. He made 2 pretty good teams last year at the 2020 age group. This year it will be even better.
I think emails will be going out by this Friday or Tuesday the latest next week. Hopefully SL will send them sooner.

There are some girls who will go to 3 or 4 differernt tryouts.

I had heard that Express girls was in disarray...but figured if MC was running things, and if he is serious about girls side, then it may portend good things....don't know anyone who had a daughter play for Express, but maybe they are serious about the focus on girls..tough to write a check though and find out the hard way that it will still be the same..

TG moved some girls to black from purple. They should of taking some girls that deserved to be there based on skill....not , who you know.

Did anyone get any emails yet from Legacy tryouts?

TG black lost a few players. The best player left for YJ. Who I have seen play and really is a great player. Does anyone know why some of these girls left? Just curious. I know they had a really good team.

You're delusional,Team is nowhere close to where it used to be. All B level players except for 2 or 3 who they are jumping over backwards to make happy so they stay. If or once those leave, that will be the final nail in the coffin. wake up and take the tainted goggles off. You need more than 2 good players to make a team successful and they just don't have that anymore. The team is done.

One that was moved is friends with the PAL guy from a neighboring town, He knew his daughter's spot was on the line and she was going to be moved down, instead of having that happen, he made the call to bring the kid up to make sure his kid spot was safe.

That is happening at every age group. Girls are leaving in bunches because they are tired of not being told the truth. Outside of 2018 black, there is no really good A team anymore

How good is 2018 black really? They avoid playing good teams, and when they do, what happens? What was the score at u15's final? And it could have been run up even more. 2020 was the one true top team TG's had, that was 2 and 3 years ago, dwindling away at this point.

From what seems to be going around is that SL told everyone,Come down and try out. I think we might be onto something here where girls actually teying out and getting a fair call on where they belong.

The girls are promised a lot and get nothing. As long as that check gets mailed in by the 14th is all that matters. Offering an extra practice as if it's free when the fees were actually raised to cover it. And how about real coaches? Not college kids and hs grads. They will not see another dime from me.

I did see a few TG girls at Legacy try outs. Some were TG black. I think EVERYONE HAD TO TRY OUT so you either made the team/s or not. No b.s. (Just my opinion)

The fact that you use the last 2 years shows you know the team is heading in the wrong direction. The funny thing is I know several of the parents on that team and all are nice people but delusional. Each and every one of these parents have told me the same story SS has come to them and told them their superstar player is leaving so now their daughter must step in a fill her shoes because she can see that type potential in their kid. Wake up she has told that same story to almost every parent left. The team will never beat a top level team again and will not be in the top 5 in the age group on LI.

I do agree about girls being "crushed" when they don't get picked for team they were on--went thru it ourselves..but they are pliable and crave friendship and good teammates above all else..so they hopefully can find a program where they get the combo of development and friendship--although that combo is getting tough to find nowadays..

Agreed.., every kid playing cares or should care . If they don't care where they are placed then what are their goals ? My daughter keeps trying to improve. If she were to be cut or not make a team.. She would be crushed. Especially this year. A lot of talent at Legacy tryouts.

My kid was one of those that tried out for Legacy and we are waiting on the emails. If she makes either of legacy teams blue or teal then we are gone no second thoughts. At this point Legacy Teal is now equivalent if not better than TG Black.

Your right , they should care where they are placed , but not for the reasons the parents care about. I have 2 daughters and they have experienced the ups and downs of competitive sports. Daughter 2 was moved down from one team to another. She was crushed. Why ? Because she would not be able to compete with her teammates, and most importantly her friends. They will not as a team be able to improve on past experiences and enjoy success in situations that maybe in the past were seen as failures. ( winning after losing ). Daughter 1 turned down opportunities to move from her original team to a clubs so called "A" team for a similar reason. She wanted to compete with her teammates and friends and not play in games that in most cases were predetermined. The best way to improve as an athlete is experience some failure and look to improve from it. Simply running to another team may make the winning easier but will help improve the athlete. So should they care, yes, but for the right reason and not just the bumper sticker

Many of the girls are tired of working hard and watching inferior girls get moved up for whatever reasons the club seems fit to tell them. This is not limited to any particular club. It happens at every club in existence.

Apparently you are one of the parents that was given the speech about how your daughter was the next "it" kid and she would be paying special attention to her and you believed it.Sorry you got your hopes dashed but essentially your kid will now be playing on a B level team . Actually I am jealous as my kids team is going to be brutally competitive this year and she is going to have to work her butt off to earn playing time , maybe I should move to TG so she can also be one of the "it" kids.

I had a daughter on 2020 Blue and everyone had equal playing time. They also had a ton of extra practices and fun things like team dinners in the winter and Lax Olympics with prizes. We had a very fun year. This was my daughters first summer team ever, she recently chose to focus more on lacrosse rather than play soccer as competitively year round. The only slight negative I took out of it was that they only played 4 tournaments, but next year they switched to 5 summer tournaments which is great!

Had a great time on 2020 Blue. Playing time was equal up until big playoff games. At that point, the best 15 girls got a majority of the time. My daughter was actually not one of those 15, but she still saw time on the field.

What's crazy is most of what's left on that team can't leave for another club. They will never ever make another top team anyplace else and they know it. Some were there since the program began and have been grandfathered in regardless of skill or athleticism.So year after year they return to black because there afraid to tryout someplace else and actually get hit with the reality of them not being real A level players.
They're told any and everything by BS and SS to collect their check except the truth. There is not one player left on that team that can replace or even come close to what's gone.

We're on TG, and we also are looking for a way out. Too many broken promises, no interest in really helping the girls develop. We tried out for a spot on Legacy and We will be trying out everywhere else in the coming weeks and will be making the move regardless of what club.We are not interested in paying anymore for meaningless winter leagues in the raggedy bubble, not interested in the fall tourneys in Hempstead where there are no coaches as they all are back to school, just not interested in dealing with this whole organization any longer. We're the consumer and i decide who I give my hard earned bucks to and It will no longer be this organization. The ship is sinking and I don't need to be told when to jump.

doesn't that ultimately happen to all the 'better" programs?...most of the time its from disgruntled ex-members or parents who has had a daughter leave for whatever reason...I am sure they have their issues like any other higher-level program, but they have always been a winning organization..and one cant gloss over that they are directed by a current D1 coach and arguably one of the top 10/15 woman's players of all time...never know what is sour grapes and what is true..you can bet that there are any # of girls programs on LI that w/b ecstatic to have had the results/players that TG has had..

Sour grapes?? I think not. I think these parents have every right to feel the way they do. Unless you are or were apart of the club, you have no idea what's what. TG was successful yes, however over the last few years has declined drastically. Every year there is a mass exodus from all the teams. Not just this age group but a great majority. Let's not forget the issue with 2017's 2020's and 2021. Emergency meetings being held to stop the bleed at the 2021 age group. Rosters being pulled from the website and never to reappear for the 2017 due to all the issues that group had and lastly the 2020's we all know the history with that age group. This is nothing new it's just being pushed to the forefront now as parents have had enough and more options are popping up. They are not the same TG's. every year is a mass defection, by December when all has settled the teams look completely different. What was once a very successful club is no longer just ask all the top players that have left. Just because someone is D-1 coach doesn't mean you fall for anything. Also lets not forget that 2020 was most successful and at there best under the guidance of another coach, since then many talented kids have left , and the club is now struggling to stop the bleed.

When 90% of the yapping is negative, no director wants to be in the limelight constantly. Nothing good can come from it. No one is reading this thread and thinking they can't wait to try out for any club that gets bashed constantly.

Feel free to use one of your childish remarks but no I don't think SS is enjoying the above publicity. TG no longer has any team in the top 5 for their age group and are quickly becoming a non factor in terms of competitive teams . It's not too late for the 2020 to find another club but time is running out.

And you were charged handsomely for every one of Elevate's parties and pre-tryout practices. Legacy way more competitive than Elevate at this level. Legacy is an option, but they don't have 8 age levels like other lax programs. The more teams you have, the more difficult it is to maintain elite coaching on B and C teams (and sometimes A teams)

They will continue to bleed. A slow painful death, another few years until SS takes another job off the Island. In the near future the NCAA will limit the role she (and college coaches) can have with the club.

That's wrong actually. Our 2020 coach paid for our team dinner herself and also generously bought the girls team shirts as a Christmas gift. Our girls also asked her themselves to add a few extra practices and she did. I know for a fact we practiced more than any other TE team. One week she even practiced 5 times a week. None were mandatory, it was just a nice gesture. Stop trying to make positive posts into negatives. This is in no way DK. I'm sure BOTC can vouch for that by looking at the IP address or whatever else they do. I'm so tired of the constant negativity. Let's allow positive comments to remain positive.

You also forgot to add the TE 2020 Blue beat Legacy's top team this summer. It was a very close and competitive game. I'm looking forward to the next time these teams meet up. And I agree - let's keep things positive. Our kids are 13 and 14 years old and we should care more about positive things in our clubs than pick apart every negative.

Why can't college coaches be affiliated with club lacrosse?

Don't know all the details, but it's related to recruiting and when coaches are allowed (by NCAA) to have contact with potential recruits.

Don't argue with this person. Let them stay with whatever club they are at and be happy or unhappy. The coach paid for these extras out of her own pocket. She is a great coach as well. Can't please the haters and the naysayers so don't try.

Keep trying to be negative. Our coach did a fantastic thing and people will try to find a way to negate that. Get over yourselves and go enjoy your own team and coaches. We should be able to post a positive thing without our coach's kind gestures being questioned. Ridiculous.

What's this I'm hearing that a 4th team YJ player has made TG black team? My daughter had to bust her butt to get there and just because someone plays on YJ they are guaranteed a spot on Black? What really is going on here? There is no way any player past team 2 has the same skill set of a 1st team player. This is highly upsetting because it really does look like this team has taken a turn for the worse even after being told "we are going to be stronger than ever this year". The backroom deals here are crazy, This team will look a lot more like the West Islip Pal team since all the players are here.

It would be very smart of Legacy to get those emails out by Friday knowing the TG girls that tried out have to accept by tomorrow.

There is a good chance that 90% of the posters here are fathers who are 30-50+ pounds overweight and have zero athleticism yet they continue to mock 12-14 year old girls as they live vicariously through their own student athletes. get over it, stop. your daughter is embarrassed for you . and so am I.

Maybe you're right maybe you're wrong, you must be one of those that drank the koolaid. One thing is for sure not one legit person has disputed the facts, how come the parents aren't on here disputing the issues with this club if they aren't true and valid? could that be because they are all trying to make a speedy exit? Keep paying attention and drink up. Please be sure to come back to this forum next year and tell us all how did sticking up for a club that only concern is when your check arrives in the mail work out for you. All these parents can't be wrong and the majority of them still have kids on the teams, basically sticking around just trying to find new homes

Haven't responded yet. Wondering if people decline their black team spots if they would offer it to her. Hesitant to commit to the purple team. Also we did get email reminders to accept this week. Any comments would be appreciated

Were both liberty a and b teams weak? Not worried about being on best team in the area just want to have good coaching and college connections if my daughter decides to try and play in college.

Waiting for Legacy then the chips will fall into place. Big turnover this year on both the black and purple not sure what your getting from either team.

So true, I would say don't do it. Do you really think if she made purple they gonna move her up over everyone else on the purple team still waiting for their chance to get a crack at black? Find yourself another club, go to other tryouts that are coming up. You are getting nothing from black and even worse from purple. Both now have b team talent. Majority black/purple are waiting on Legacy results, some will be happy and some will be pissed the [lacrosse] off. Do yourself a favor avoid all the politics and BS and just find someplace else for your kid

Every club out there is the right fit for certain people. So many parents think that their kid making the top team at the top club will ultimately make them happy. While making the top team is an accomplishment, and your daughter should be proud if she makes it, the reality is that the experience may not be great. A kid struggling to stay afloat on top team, may indeed have a better experience on the team below. I see it every year with a few kids . There will always be a handful of players on every team who are quite frankly in over their heads. Best to keep a realistic expectation of what team your kid should be on and pick the best team that truly fits her talent/skill and most importantly athletic level.

legacy emails and results are out, wasn't the news we expected but it is what it is. congrats to who all made it and good luck! 2 great solid teams with great coaching. Our road ends here with TG as like we said earlier we will not spend another dime there. Good thing is it's still early in the tryout season and many more tryouts go. Time to move on.

TG 2020 does not overcharge for anything including clinics and camps. They raised prices $100 for 10 extra practices, and member fee is still lower than many "elite" Long Island programs. Some programs don't even post their prices.

If your daughter plays well on TG purple, she will get noticed and play more. Girls on TG black should be better, but playing time is equal for all girls on the black team. Not the case with TG and most organizations' B and C teams - where standout girls play more.

The level of talent on A teams should be closer from the top to bottom of roster than B teams. If you leave and she plays for another organization, will she still get the playing time? The new organization will likely keep the girls they already have if the talent level is equal. They know your checks won't bounce and are not a crazy parent. If a girl jumps from team to team each year, why should the organization be loyal to the player? I don't really get why people want to do that every year. If your daughter is talented, and gets better each year, than the organization did it's job (in my opinion). Is it about winning or getting better? If the team makes the championship brackets, that's good enough for me. Gets me home an hour earlier!

maybe your expectation of your daughters skills are not realistic. If you think she should be on a "higher" level team but keeps making the "B" team, maybe you need to readjust your outlook. Let the kids play and have fun. Stop living through your student-athlete.

If your daughter has been on TG Purple for a year or two and is frustrated by the lack of movement up to Black take her to all of the other club tryouts and see how she fairs with them. If she is a quality player that TG just doesn't recognize she will definitely make one or more of the A teams out there.

I agree with attending other tryouts as long as your daughter does not need to be on a certain team. Don't forget that some clubs only have 1 team in each division. I don't know the pecking order of 2020 teams so I can't help you with who is better. The last tryout is usually YJ if you are not happy with anything else but with any club with more than one team, your daughter would need to be noticeably better than the bottom of the A team roster for the club to take her and put her on the A team.

Like I said in my original post, we are not on TG purple yet this is our first time ever trying out for TG and she made the purple team.Just wanted some feedback from parents that are there before we accepted the position. Just wanted to know how easy it is to move up in the organization before we committed to it. What are the quality of coaches? Will she develop? Etc

Ok now so what about the coaching? Coaching should be equally important when deciding. There are a lot of things that should be considered when picking a club. What's the potential for growth? Is their feedback on child's progress whether good or bad? When lacrosse on Long Island becomes more about actually helping the kids rather than selling you false promises and taking your check. The kids and teams will get better.

You would be surprised to know that both teams are exactly alike talent wise this year. The talent pool is dwindling. No standouts on either team and the talent are all leaving for other clubs whether a or b what's left are all average players. Other clubs are plucking TG a and b talent away at a rapid pace.

You would need to put it into context, basically what team is she coming from that has you surprised that she didn't make black? Despite all the TG bashing on here, there are some very talented girls on 2020 black. Unless half the players end up walking away( which sounds like may happen), maybe there is no room for your daughters talent. You will get good coaching and college connections. Directors are at and run majority of practices in fall and winter and spring. Plenty of information regarding the recruiting process as well.

What exactly is a top player on a YJ "4th" team? Yj's best players are on teams 1-2. anything past that are kids that are lesser skilled and just want to play lacrosse for the love of the game. Team 4 is no way, shape or form competitive. As successful as YJ is, if you are placed on 4th team then there is no way you can or should be placed on another club's such as TG top team. If you were a A player you would be on YJ blue or gold not 4. Says a lot about what's going on at TG. Most parents are very delusional and do not see what's going on right under there eyes. This is not a bash just a genuine assessment from an outsider that's been around successful programs for a while.

Legacy is not better than TG at any level. People who leave TG purple are leaving because they cannot make TG black. Simple truth. People who leave are mad that they cannot make the TG black team. Any organization will let B team players leave if they think they can make another organization's A team.

It is no different in girls' lacrosse than many professional sports. When backup players leave to become starters they rarely remain starters because their weaknesses get exposed. Some develop to become superstars, but some remain career backups. Nothing wrong with that as long as you are playing the game you love. Problem is the parents don't see it. This is the age where it gets harder to improve and take spots from other top level players.

How can you know your full potential and level of play if your club team avoids all the top teams? I'm guessing it's safer to stay rather than have to go to other clubs and actually have a real tryout and have people see your real potential/talent outside of the purple uniform, It will be pretty interesting to see if one A level player can help save this team this upcoming year. 6 years ago when TG started, it was one of the only other legit options to YJ. Shannon and Bill didn't have to work hard to field good/great teams. Now the momentum has swung the other way either back to YJ or to the new kid in town Legacy. The club can be "saved" but it will take some effort. In my opinion it will depend on the coaches, they have to be involved. The extra 10 practices are a good start. Coaches need to be at practices with their teams and at tournaments with their teams.
My experience, was practices were run by one group of coaches and tournaments by another coach often without much knowledge of the team she was coaching that weekend. Moving forward that needs to change.

Wasn't trying to knock Legacy. I meant all A level teams, TG has the edge at different age levels - not team levels. Not really getting why people put so much stock into overanalyzing B and C teams in any program. A level teams give organizations their reputation, not B level teams. Funny watching any organization's A and B teams play each other. Everyone gets nervous that the B team will beat the A team. Yes, it happens. Let's remember, they're 13. Not many people talk about goalies here either. They can make or break a team for better or for worse.

Isn't there a domino effect in all of this? How are the girls / parents on an established team going to feel when a new "superstar" kid from another program comes in? When a program does this to make a team better, what does it say about loyalty to kids who are already on that team? Double edged sword . . . you need loyalty to build a program, but you also need talent to do so.

If your the A team on a B level club, you are basically still a B level team. What I see going on here is that TG's came on the scene several years back, made a small argument to be a A level club but has since fallen well short of that. Now you have clubs like Legacy, Elevate, Liberty etc. Right on par now with TGs. Its a battle for B club supremacy. None of these clubs are A clubs.

Curious then why you feel kids are leaving TG in such large numbers , many of your top teams have been decimated . You sound silly, either way you put it, ALL the Talent whether A or B for this age group is now gone. not 1 or 2 but groups of girls leaving or have left.

Player development and motivation has stalled at TG. Lack of quality coaching and consistent coaching. While some of the college girls do a nice job with the players, their time together is short and the others are on their phones texting and even worse some of the coaches don't get along (2021 black coaches). SS only showed any interest in the 2020 black team, and only sits under her tent during camps collecting checks before the camp starts, then sits on her phone all day rather that walk around to oversee the stations during those camps, she should be more involved and hands on. All the clubs are a money grab in many ways, but TG is starting to become arrogant and forgetting that the consumer has other options. Some of those options used to be part of their club and splintered away because they saw/heard the dissatisfaction of parents and kids first hand and told the family, the family didn't want to listen.

Also the kids are not happy in the organization because they are not getting better at a rate consistent with their peers at other clubs, and have not been able to compete with top clubs. Better players are not being promoted to top teams leading to more frustration. It tells you something when purple girls can go to other clubs and make their top teams. Especially when those teams are as good as your own top team and getting better. It tells you that your politics is holding some of your talented girls down and hurting your overall ability to compete by not having the top girls on the top team.

I agree that a lot more needs to be done about the coaching, the problem also is they cannot find coaches other than the college kids because any decent coach is going to want to be paid far more than what they get away with by hiring college kids. BS and SS are all about collecting the money not spending it. Secondly SS showed not attention at all to the purple team. Just because it's your 2nd team, those kids are not any way less inferior than those on black. It doesn't take much to show up and support one of their games and give them any type of feedback or motivation. It would be nice for her or BS to show up and support the purple team. See what's going on, see who's improving. How can you move kids up but never saw the kids play in any games? How can you say you moved some kids up based on summer game performance when you were not at any games? Why because that's all BS. Way too much politics which is starting to be the Demise of the club. When a parent from black can tell you that they will give you 4 or 5 of the girls that play for his town team if you keep his daughters spot safe, that's politics. When you constantly pick less talented over kids that really work hard and just want that acknowledgment or motivation but because they're not from WB or giving you money and gifts on the side, that's politics. It seems that anyone that can help fill TG coffers with more money can pretty much dictate what goes on. So much more going on but its too much to type.

TG has 17 teams. How is SS or BS going to see every game in a tournament weekend? I don't know any director who can physically do that, especially when older girls play at different locations than younger. It's easy for Legacy to do that because they only have one-third the number of girls. If Legacy grows, they too will be thin at coaching and attention to every team. People have been saying this nonsense for years and TG remains competitive. As girls lacrosse grows, the number of new organizations will continue to pop up and take new girls from all programs. That's good for the game, but I hope it doesn't water down the end product at tournaments. Not too many competitive games until you get to the playoff brackets as it is. Same can be said about some startup Maryland teams this summer . . . some very good but some really bad.

It they really cared they would have at least popped into Some of the other teams games , not just the black team. So don't be surprised now that almost the whole purple team is gone. Because many people came on here last year too and said TG girls were leaving in droves and going to Elevate. Elevate did not do a lot this past summer with all of the "new" girls they had coming in. It's been the same bashing of TG for years, and no different now. Someone here asked, "What is so great about the other programs that is better than TG?." Still waiting for an answer of the program, coaching staff, and tournament playoff bracket appearances to answer that question.

Perfectly said! The key word you said is "friends." Made so many this year. I hope none of these people end up on my daughter's team. Are they watching their daughters play, or are they taking notes to see where they are going to tryout next year?

Icon is a boys' program much like Express. Teams are okay.

My daughter does not play for Icon, but they have two great coaches who both played college lacrosse and are girls varsity assistant coaches. Icon is better than fl$. They are on the same level as 91 girls (which is yet another boys' program that has girls too).

I can tell you from direct experience- Express is absolutely not about the girls program. Girls are treated as 2nd rate for sure.

A couple of those players that left TG have already made A teams elsewhere. Showing they were dropped from black to make room for f&f not because they weren't good players. We'll see how well TG will fare with the new and improved team.

I'm calling BS on this rebuttal. It is 4-5 tourneys and A LA CARTE fall tourneys. Meaning, me thinks, that you will pay for them. Listen- feel free to pay up, I just don't think it is worth nearly this much for 2020 players, 1/100th of whom might be good enough to be recruited. Meaning, from my read, Yeah you could have an 8th grader recruited, but seriously- when does that happen? I gotta agree with those that think this is a lark for all but a VERY VERY few exceptions.... hence no reason for most parents to go crazy spending cheese for 8th grade players unless of course it is for the sake of gaining experience and skills. If you are 'buying' skills training with the money, probably a good idea; if you are buying recruiting services for your 2020, you might as well spend that on academic tutors and such--- better spent money.

We are pumping every nickel we have and even some we don't have to get that $7,000 offer to a $60,000 school. We are in line to pay about $40,000 thousand or more into travel lacrosse for that big athletic payout. We plan on her giving a verbal next summer as she enters 9th grade. It's not for everybody but my daughter has no say in the decision.

Make sure you get her to major in Sanskrit too... so she can pay it all off with ease when she's a grad.

Tryouts were at about the same time last year ( August) and the rosters were posted on October 16, (according to date stamp on my printout)
Of course it could be sooner or later.. maybe after YJ tryouts.

Reality is it sucks for YJ now that TG has been decimated but I bet Legacy will give YJ a run for their money , seems YJ top team now has many of the top players in the age group so the bottom half is now filled with the pay to play kids who line the coaches pocket ,problem is those kids will cost that team and organization more issues than they think.

Legacy girls tryouts are over and both teams are filled, The boys are having additional tryouts to fill open slots, I don't think you really are on TG as you would see that the the majority of girls have left and legacy has a bunch of them, Liberty has some and elevate and we haven't even gotten to YJ yet. TG has lost a lot of girls to Legacy. Try to stay awake up there on Mars, cause you're definitely lost and have no idea what's going on.

I understand leaving for YJ if you want to upgrade. Not other organizations, especially Elevate where you will pay more.

At this age YJ has the best players ,not even comparable so they can now load the back half with, siblings who don't belong,friends and family who don't belong, and worst yet the private lesson group who line the coaches pocket at the 19-20 age so are put on the top team when everyone knows they do not belong,its the main reason Legacy got to be descent so fast the kids that were on the 2nd yj team saw the bs of the pay to play kids and left good for them. Legacy only mistake was not making a 19 team as both TG and YJ are an absolute mess at those ages.

At YJ, it all depends on the numbers - they will make as many teams and as many different combinations as they need to place all of the girls who tryout on a team. Had 21's on 20 teams last year, not sure about the others. As far as whether it is good to "play up" on a combined team, I'd say no. In your example, the 19's are the bottom of the barrel who couldn't make one of the other 19 teams, so you as a 20 are playing in 19 brackets with a weak team - either getting beat up by good teams or playing in low level tournaments to be able to compete. Better to play on a straight 20 team (in my opinion).

2020 TG Black has been an outstanding team for years. That team made playoff brackets in every tournament. They only lost a handful of games the past two hears. Can someone truthfully tell me how many girls in fact left that team? And why they left? If a team is good, and winning tournaments, why did they leave?

$75 - $100 per hour for a private from a college girl on a cell phone in the famous flip flops. And the same girls will be taking their roadshow indoors for their fall clinics any day now. Has been and remains a JOKE!!! No other way to look at it other than you are paying to play or paying to stay.

Know the girls in the age group very well. Both the girls you are talking about are excellent players . That being said there are several kids on that YJ team who are close to being as good and manage to make the players around them better . One of those kids you are talking about will share the ball in mostly non competive games and force the ball in competitive games turning it over , the other has virtually no ability to share the ball but can and will score in all games. Maybe the kids on YJ have all moved down a notch on the depth chart but TG as a team has just moved to a b level , possibly a c level .

Get used to it, this is the way the world works. Every top girl that has moved to the YJ blue teams are known, no try outs are needed. The tryouts are for borderline kids and the girls being "screwed out of a position" are known to the coaches going into the tryouts. The top teams welcome the top kids coming in, from players to parents to director. Same thing happened all last year, people on these threads trying to make trouble for these young girls as they move on. Believe me, these players are welcomed and embraced.

You should stop worrying about other clubs! Yes, undoubtedly YJ is the strongest team in this age group, anyone who says differently is smoking something! fl$ is a boys program. They have had trouble getting girls to tryout for the past two years at least. My daughter did a clinic two years ago. Apparently they still had our phone number and called letting us know about tryouts. They were also more expensive than most for not so competitive team.

Actually told by a friend about her commitment but seems you are the one stalking her Instagram .No I have not heard of any other 2020 commits . Yes it will take Maryland off the list for some kids(many probably not) . Reasons it will take MD of the list for some are about egos in some cases and perceived reputation in others. This week at soccer I found out that the 202 Blue team already had a practice - 2020 red did not. I guess my question is, is this how Elevate works and did I fall for the usual BS, just want to know before its too late, still have some other options.

it would see that ANY travel program will tell you what you want to hear..so in that regard, Elevate is no different from any other travel program. generally, the age groups all practice at the same time, but I am sure depending on the individual coaches time schedule, certain teams get more time. Oh, and I am sure it doesn't hurt when the 2020 BLUE team is coached by directors daughter..hmmm...What distinguishes Elevate from others, is that the director has a criminal background when it comes to money that people need to pay attention to...thus the need to get the checks rolling in...from what I understand and hear, the WHITE teams at Elevate are a complete and utter waste of time that were only started last year to pad the bank account. probably not all that much different than YJ when it comes to adding teams..which is ok with most folks who just want a place to play and have no college aspirations...

I am sure the rumors are true and a 2020 has verbaled. The directors and the crazy parents living through their kids (13 year old kids at that) all want to be first.

No different then some 8th grade parents raising holy [lacrosse] in our town because 8th graders can't play varsity only JV. By only playing JV they are falling behind in resume building against their club teammates who have played varsity since 7th or 8th.

Everyone does practice at the same time. I'm guessing 2020 Blue coach had practice at a different time because she coaches high school field hockey and had to make it work with her schedule? Just assuming because I have been with Elevate for a few years and we have no had issues with this. Fall is usually based on the coach's availability, but teams practice the same amount for the most part and then summer everyone is the same.

Just because one team started before the other doesn't mean the number of practices won't even out over time. Unless he told you the teams practice together I think it's too early to draw conclusions.

wins are nice but don't kid yourself, no one enjoys watching one girl try to do everything while open girls are standing around, least of all the other girls. Best of luck to her, she's an amazing player, that's not to say she's an amazing team player, there's a lot to be desired there, and who knows she may develop into an amazing team player yet.. "There are points when you think there's nothing ahead and you're really upset with yourself," Cox said. "When you're playing you think, this is your last chance."
Cox wouldn't feel as behind if two proposals submitted recently by the IWLCA for Division I coaches would gain NCAA approval. The first amends the recruiting calendar, while the second would prohibit any contact with prospective student-athletes until Sept. 1 of their junior year. If passed — no sure thing given the NCAA's move toward deregulation and a history of ignoring similar sport-specific proposals — they would mean that future high school juniors would all be in the same boat as Cox, whittling down their final college choices as September closes.
"If they did wait to do that, I'd have the same chance as everyone else," Cox said. "And I'd have a bigger pool of schools."
Coaches want the changes because they would help better match players to their schools, not just their teams, and pushing younger and younger players into making college choices is limiting that potential.
"None of us feel super comfortable evaluating 14-year-olds and projecting where they'll be seven years down the road," said Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel, co-chair of the Recruiting Issues Committee. "I have a freshman daughter [in high school]. She's been in this environment, been around a college and a college team, and she doesn't know what she wants. It's a hard choice. We're asking them to do it with an immature perspective on life."
"You want kids and families old enough and able to consider what they want and are looking for in a college experience," Kimel added. "And when they visit, they're able to absorb all that knowledge and weigh that with what they're looking for and not looking for. It's going to result in kids making much better decisions."
More than anything, the IWLCA's proposed legislation would give everyone more time. Coaches will have more time to focus on their current teams, while student-athletes will have more time to select the school that best fits.
"The accelerated process is too accelerated," said Julie Myers, head coach of Virginia and chair of the Lacrosse Rules Committee, which operates separately from the Recruiting Issues Committee. "We all can agree it's crazy. There's nothing urgent for a ninth-grader except getting ready for the next day of school."

Leigh Ernst Friestedt, founder and president of Equity IX, which focuses on women's sports, presented material from her documentary, "Early Recruit: The 'Committed' Student-Athlete," at last year's IWLCA convention. She traced the development of the early recruiting process and outlined the issues with prospects verbally committing to schools earlier and earlier after researching and interviewing top players from programs like St. Stephen's and St. Agnes.
"Every graduating high school senior will tell me that she absolutely wanted to make that decision on her own, and they wanted that to be their decision," Friestedt said. "They recognize they're not in a positon to make the decision on their own and likely need their parents. Their decision could likely be different from what it would be if they were an older junior or senior student-athlete."
Cox does see how waiting could be an advantage. It's her silver lining.
"I'm glad I waited until now, because now I know what I want to do with my future," she said. "I want to go into engineering and want a city school. I don't think I could have made a decision any time sooner. I'm just coming to the conclusion of what I like now."
Kathy Jenkins will coach Cox this season, Jenkins' 40th year as girls' lacrosse coach at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes, and she would be thrilled to see the proposals slow down the recruiting cycle.
"We need to get it back to worry just about being a high school freshman and sophomore and worry about their classes," Jenkins said. "For the majority of the kids, they need time to develop and they need to take the stress off them. Everyone feels pressured. Kids feel pressure. Parents feel pressure. College coaches feel pressure. It's a circle of issues."
Jenkins was one of three prominent high school coaches to voice their concern about the increasing pace of recruiting and its effects at the IWLCA convention.
"Every year it's gotten worse," Jenkins said. "It used to be seniors, and it was great. It was juniors, then sophomores later, then sophomores earlier. Now freshmen or between freshman and sophomore summer. People were out looking at eighth-graders this summer. It's getting worse, and it's going to get worse if we don't change it."
Most college coaches agree with Jenkins, which is the genesis of the proposals that are steps to bringing the recruiting timeline back to where it was less than a decade ago. The IWLCA membership mandated a change in 2014.
"We finally hit a tipping point," Kimel said. "We have to do something."

Kimel and Penn coach Karin Brower Corbett, the co-chair of the Recruiting Issues Committee, oversaw the distribution of surveys to IWLCA coaches and took their suggestions on how and what to change. Their committee took the results and came up with proposals that drew the highest consensus after repeated feedback from coaches.
"It's taken us a long time," Corbett said. "At the convention this past November, we had a lot of time to talk about this. We had surveys before. We wanted to show that a huge majority were in favor of it."
Out of 111 Division I coaches, 107 responded to the IWLCA's surveys on the submitted proposals. Of them, 87 percent want the calendar change, and 85 percent of them are in favor of the Sept. 1 contact proposal.
"The goal for the prospective student-athletes was balance," Corbett said. "Balance the recruiting opportunities with the time and abilities to focus on academics, to play multiple sports and to enjoy the overall high school experience without rushing the college process. The goals for the coaches is balance recruiting opportunities for age-appropriate prospective student-athletes with time to watch them develop further, to focus on coaching our current student-athletes, particularly during our preseason and season, and to foster a better work-life balance for our profession."
Getting the proposals passed is a giant question mark. The NCAA has had a moratorium on new legislation for more than four years. Women's lacrosse isn't the only sport now sending in new proposals and the NCAA will have to go through them all. The Sport-Specific Requests Subcommittee of the NCAA's Division I Student-Athlete Experience Committee is reviewing the IWLCA proposals and will decide whether or not to recommend them for further review to the NCAA.
"I do think the calendar is going to be easier to pass," Kimel said. "It's going to be looked at as 'non-controversial.' What's hard to predict is how our proposal of the Sept. 1 date, how they will look at that in regards to other sports. Are they going to be willing to look at it in regards to women's lacrosse only? It's hard to know. I think the Sept. 1 date is really important to changing the culture of recruiting for the kids and everyone involved. Recruiting calendars do evolve. The Sept. 1 date is going to be paramount in terms of making a significant change."
The calendar proposal separates "recruiting periods," when coaches are permitted to recruit only at high school/scholastic events, from "evaluation periods," when coaches are permitted to recruit at any type of event.

"The calendar proposal is trying to limit the amount of times that they're playing for two reasons," Corbett said. "The student-athletes can play multiple sports, which we think is good for them and good for their experience, and they're not playing lacrosse every weekend. Less playing is less opportunity for injury. And then for the coaches, it's more time to spend with our teams."
"We're trying as coaches to bring back the high school sports to mean something," Corebett explained. "We could go watch soccer. We can go watch a high school lacrosse game. We couldn't go to a tournament during that recruiting time. The point is to let these kids play multiple sports and also focus on academics year-round."
Financial and time commitments also are concerns in the current recruiting environment. Families of prospects spend incredible amounts of money and time to join clubs, play in tournaments and travel to them on weekends — if they can.
"There's a wealth disparity issue," Friestedt said. "You need to be able to afford to be recruited."
An amendment to the calendar proposal will help with the time commitment. It has dead periods for two weeks in August and three days surrounding all major national holidays. High school students could get back Thanksgiving and Christmas break with their families (but not lacrosse-filled Memorial Day weekend). In all, there would be 11 weekends in the year — just over 20 percent — in which there would be evaluation periods in which college coaches could attend.
"Eleven weekends is more than enough opportunity to have good quality exposure," Kimel said. "You do have to pick and choose now. The really quality events will be the ones that emerge in terms of being the most popular ones for teams and coaches to attend."
The IWLCA's own recruiting events tend to be among the most popular. The coaches' association currently runs three regional and three national tournaments, including the President's Cup in November, which occurs during the IWLCA convention at ESPN Wide World of Sports in LarryMiller.
"Every year, there are new events, and maybe they serve a region better or the whole country better," Kimel said. "That will be a continuum. We'll shift and change as recruiting continues to evolve."
Prospects figure to gravitate to the most popular tournaments to be seen by college coaches, and it could see events moving to cluster and compete on those 11 weekends. But coaches hope that prospects won't stop going to the clinics and camps where there are not as many college coaches or during recruiting dead periods.

The New England Cup in June was the first of six IWLCA recruiting tournaments in 2015, culminating in November with the national President's Cup in LarryMiller.
"Whether or not coaches can be at an event or not, they should still go," said Michele DeJuliis, founder of Ultimate Lacrosse and a former assistant coach at Princeton. "They should still be developing their game. There are so many kids out there that these events will still be successful. Somebody might move their weekend and might go against a big tournament, but you're going to have competition. There are some big tournaments that are important."
There wouldn't be any live periods during September, October or January with the new proposal. Limiting recruiting months would bring coaches back to focusing fully on preparing their current roster, something that has become increasingly tougher due to recruiting demands.
"They have three years of recruits to stay on top of and their team," Jenkins said. "It's a lot on the coaches. They have almost no life now, so this hasn't helped. It could be a win-win situation if we could get it improved."
It even could keep coaches from burning out.
"Where it will impact the coaches, it will inject some work-life balance," Kimel said. "There is concern about losing good, young women in our coaching profession. The demands of recruiting and time and travel, it's a lot for young women. There has to be some balance. The changes we made in the calendar inject some balance back in it. We want to make sure they're able to have a life outside of their job aside from just courting high school kids."
The Sept. 1 date proposal would afford both coaches and prospects even more time in the decision-making process.
"Within the rules now, we have dead periods," Corbett said. "We're increasing the dead period by years in their lives."
Coaches have found ways around the existing rules with third-party calls and on-campus visits by freshman and sophomore prospects, but they are pushing for tightening the contact rule to stem the cycle.
"The realities of how the process is working is there are some loopholes which allow coaches to communicate via third party and allow the student-athletes to contact the college coach," Friestedt said.
The Sept. 1 proposal is an attempt to put off all the early communication, part of the driving force behind the acceleration of early commitments and recruiting. The IWLCA pictures a stricter rule.
"There is no direct contact with a prospective student-athlete," Corbett said of the new proposal. "You can't meet on campus or off campus. These kids can't come to Sophomore Days and can't come to campus. They can come and do an admissions tour, but they cannot meet with a coach or a player. You technically shouldn't be looking at schools until a normal time in your life.
"Sept. 1 of junior year is a date that the NCAA uses. If you like a school, then you are able to be back on campus when school's in session and a player can get a feel of what the school and the team is like."
Coaches still would be charting prospects before their junior year, but foresee fewer of them being evaluated as closely as freshmen. And they wouldn't be offered spots before their junior year.
"We will still have evaluation periods," Myers said. "We'll have possibly two years to watch them grow and develop. It gives us the opportunity to do our homework better."
Added Kimel: "It's going to afford us the opportunity to recruit kids that are older. It makes more sense for us to recruit kids that are closer in age to when they'll get on college campus. We'll get a truer picture of where they are physically, mentally and emotionally as opposed to 14-year-olds in high school."
Club coaches would not longer serve as intermediaries to set up third-party contact, but would still provide valuable perpsective on recruits. And high school coaches like Jenkins could better answer inquiries.
"There are freshmen committing," Corbett said. "If they're on a good high school team, they're not playing their freshman year. It brings the high school coach back into the equation."
The Sept. 1 contact proposal will be more difficult to pass. In the past, the NCAA has railed against making special exceptions for sports, and they have had a trend toward deregulation, though their own rules don't reflect that idea.
"Bylaw 13 is around 60 pages, and it has lots of exceptions and nuances," Friestedt said. "The women's lacrosse proposal could be a model for other sports. Lacrosse would like the support of other sports behind them to do away with the early recruiting process. The women's lacrosse early recruiting timeline is more aggressive. There are reasons why they need these rules that are not relevant to other sports. This is a great step forward in really trying to address the issues of early recruiting."
The IWLCA is trying to get others on board to make it a broader movement. Similar issues early recruiting concerns exist in men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball and, of course, men's lacrosse.
"It's in discussion," said Princeton men's lacrosse coach Chris Bates, the Division I representative on the IMLCA Board of Directors. "We all probably realize we'd like to do something to stem the tide of what's happening. It's definitely in discussions. It's probably something we will more formally have dialogue and discuss in our December meetings."
The IWLCA would like to see its two proposals in place for the 2016-2017 season. A mandate from the coaches spawned the proposals last year, but the IWLCA has been waiting for the NCAA's moratorium to be lifted so it could confront early recruiting issues before they get worse.
"The cost is kids' experiences," Kimel said. "We're not talking about commodities. We're talking about children and their futures. To have them be in position as teens and pre-teens to consider colleges, I don't think people are confident that will result in a good decision."
Said Corbett: "We are hopeful that the NCAA will work with us on this, that they see this is an issue. The NCAA has stated success in the classroom, field and in life is important. This is part of their mission. We're hoping to partner with them. We're one of the first groups to put forth a rule that can be enforced."
In the meantime, Cox is slimming a narrow list of schools that she could play for, and still hoping that being later than the rest of her teammates won't leave her missing out on a Division I chance.
"I know I have options," Cox said. "I know I'll have the ability to play lacrosse in college or not. It depends how I want to go forward. I'd love to play."

If this gets adopted, I really hope it gets the Men's side to act.

Not stalking nor am I obsessed with the committed kid but was really just curious if its true that a 13 year old did actually verbally commit to the top lacrosse program in the country. I would find it strange that both parties would be willing to make such an early commitment. Friend of mine told me the kid just posted it as a joke which is possible and may be a great example of why 13 year olds should not be committing.

The girls should be commended for being born with a gift and then fine tuning that gift with lots of hard work and dedication to the sport but the parents of those kids make it very hard to root for them. Lacrosse has a toxic selfish sideline at a very young age because of these "rules". A game of the haves and have nots and if your daughter loves the game and is trying hard parents of the haves make it tough for them to stick around.

Truth is, your team will practice less. The daughter of the director coaches the 2020 Blue team and that is just the way it is. She is sort of running the show there now (assuming he is going to give her that club one day) and not sure he would even stop that from happening. If you were watching at Elevate tryouts, she was sort of running the show - from her chair. Don't say anything, we mentioned some issues last year and it did not go well. Suck it up and deal with it.

This is true, she did leave. I was notified when she left, I think it was a week ago but it was after tryouts. We were with that program before she came and since she got there and she turned that place around. You talk about putting structure to chaos. She took every call I made to her, spent hours on the phone with people and was honest in her answers. As to why she left, I think I know why but would not write that in a forum like this. Good luck to her and her family.

Why does early commitment automatically equal living through your kids? Don't get me wrong, there is tons of that going on, but I'm not sure that is always the case.

It doesn't but you always have a few jealous losers who can't be happy for anyone who does better than their kid. Have spoken to many an early commit kid when they are in 11-12th grade and rarely if ever do they feel they made the wrong choice , if they did they would just decommit and go elsewhere .Guarantee that most if not all of these "I know what's better for your kid than you do " parents on here feel their kid was over looked so are bitter. Yes my kid was a relatively early commit and could not be happier for her as she enjoyed every second of the recruiting process.

We stayed longer than we should have. Don't expect things to change - they won't. If you're not happy, choose another club.

Congrats to you and your daughter. Completely agree with your post. The poison is not the parents of the early commits, its not the parents on the sideline, it comes from jealous parents who spew it on the internet. Not every early commit is a black hole, stat padding monster molded by their over the top parents who won't give you the time of day on the sidelines. There are lots of extremely talented, unselfish, team player girls with great parents out there too. If you people out there are stuck on a team with a black hole, that stinks, but don't apply your misery and situation to everyone else. Good luck.

Have seen both situations. Some where early commitment is all the parents can talk about and if you didn't know any better you would think it's the parents going to college. One even said to me, "When we go to school in a couple years" ... i had to remind him that he wasn't going to school, his daughter was. But have also seen very thoughtful and caring parents try to help their daughters navigate this big decision, and see it work out well for them. Parents and their daughters should get as much information as possible, and make the best decision they can together. For some that may mean committing very early, for others it might mean taking more time. There is no right answer. But there certainly are parents that are tools!

Early recruiting is killing the game of lacrosse. Lacrosse was always a great team sport and like many other team sports it teaches you about teamwork, sportsmanship, commitment and may other key qualities.

A report just came out from Boston College about the effects that helicopter parents are having on students in college and their inability to cope or adapt. The same thing is happening in lacrosse. Parents need to understand that it is ok for kids to make mistakes, it ok for kids to lose.

Do I think the NCAA and both coaches associations need to make changes to early recruiting - YES. However, parents can also play their own part and help your daughters (or sons) by slowing the process down. Don't worry about what the girl on your team is doing, worry about yourself. Pick a school because it is a great academic fit for your daughter. A Place she would be happy at if her lax career ended tomorrow. In reality her lax career will most likely end when she graduates unless she goes into coaching or is in the top half of 1 percent of all the players and
plays for Team USA.

So due to early recruiting, we have seen a major shift in the game and how it is played. Instead of playing club lacrosse for the fun of it - parents only care about what are the recruiting chances for their daughter. This in turn makes lacrosse a job and it's not fun anymore. This also changes how the game is played - it turns into a me, me game where "I have to showcase what I can do." Parents feel that the best way their daughter can show case themselves is by scoring goals. How often do you hear on the sidelines - "go to goal, go, go." You don't hear look up - Susie is open - pass the ball. You do it hear that occasionally form Susie's parents who are constantly telling the coaches that know one passes the ball to Susie.

This shift in early recruiting is making parents try to force their kids onto varsity in 7th and 8th grade. Granted their will be the top 1% of layers who can handle this, bit the majority of them can not. So they sit on the varsity bench and wast an entire year where they could have been playing JV or middle school ball and gotten valuable playing experience. Parents will justify this by saying their daughters are getting valuable practice time against varsity level players. However, this is also not true. Many of these kids not only sit on the sidelines during games, but also at practices. How may HS games have you watched where they play 12-14 girls only?

Another part of this problem is the lack of quality coaching both at middle school and high school programs. May of these jobs go to teachers who don't have the necessary experience. We have seen this firsthand in Maryland where girls are told to NOT play on their middle school teams but play on their club teams in a spring league.

All of this is in a push to get their daughters committed early because they will lose their spot. For some of these early recruits (aa small percentage), they may have a dream school, maybe it's their parents alma matter. However, for the overwhelming majority we are asking 13-15 year kids to make a decision on their future where they are not capable of really making this decision. What are these kids shown on their recruiting trips - athletic facilities, fields, locker rooms, fancy training rooms, student athlete learning centers (which are not available to the general student body).

They are introduced to famous athletes to woo them to their respective school. You also have club programs that push certain schools - not because they have their players best academic interests in mind, but schools who can win a championship.

Does and 8th, 9th or 10th grader really know what they want to do with the rest of their life. No. Dod they know which school and which course of study will help them best - no.

Another issue with early recruiting is the problem with the socio economic disparity amongst families. A family for ma a ver wealthy area can afford to send their kids to limitless camps, clinics and campus visits - no matter where they are in the country. A family with lesser or no means can not make those trips. The NCAA makes available 5 paid recruiting trips. However, those are for the players' senior year. That is way too late.

So with all that being said - we have turned lacrosse into a me first sport. Go to any recruiting showcase and watch the ball hogs take over. Go to a summer tournament and listen to the parents scream at their kids to go to goal. Watch parents n the sidelines with stopwatches timing how long their kids have been on the bench and how long they are on the field.

We need to go back to teaching the game to be played the right way - like a team. Some of the greatest players to ever play the game were great because they made the players around them better. That is what great layers do.

We live in a world of helicopter parents. Kids are not allowed to make mistakes - and if the do it is someone else's fault. Let's go back to a time where we need to tell our kids that if they want something bad enough - they need to work for it. They can't just have mommy and daddy fight for it. And lastly to parents, when a college coach asks yourHS or Club Coach - what type of parents are they? What do you want them to say?

Don't knock early committments, my older daughter would have been very happy to get an early committment but it wasn't in the cards. She watched as all of her friends did committ early and wondered when her turn would come. ( very anxious times for a young lady to have all of her friends have a committment and her not have one) As it turns out she was a late bloomer and eventually found her way to a top program that offered her course of study. It all works out but if my next one is in a position to committ early I wouldn't be against it.

If 85% of the coaches want to stop early recruiting than they should just stop it. Just do not do it.

Let the 15 coaches who want to do it continue. The reality is that a very small number of 9th graders have actually been recruited. There may have been a lot of parents reaching out to schools trying to get their kid recruited, sending letters, going to camps, asking to visit the school etc.. but few were "Recruited and Offered a Spot". Rising 10th grade summer saw the recruiting process begin for most.

If you believe that there is going to be a lot of change in who the "Top Players" are from 9th to 11th grade than why does it matter to the coaches who want to wait? Coaches can pass on the kid who stands out in 9th grade because they will fade and others will pass them in 11th grade.

Again, its BS. The coaches know that if they wait they will not get the best players. For the most part, the 9th grade stud will be the stud in 11th grade.

The coaches who work the recruiting trail the hardest will end up with a greater depth of talent in their recruiting classes. (Provided the school is academically and athletically more desirable than most)

The coaches will have to work just as hard during the recruiting process if they want to identify and recruit the top players. The amount of work and the amount of time required to identify and recruit the top players will be the same regardless of the age of the recruit.

The issue of a player being injured does not change, in fact getting injured later in high school would be more difficult to overcome if the recruiting time line was pushed back. The player would have less time to recover.

If the college coaches do not want to watch 8th and 9th graders then they should stop having their "recruiting camps" with young players in attendance. They should also stop watching the girls at the summer tournaments.

- 700 plus girls go on to play D1 lacrosse every year. Only a small percent of those girls are recruited in the 9th grade.

- There are 111 D1 Women's lacrosse programs if 85% of them do not believe in early recruiting they should not do it.

- The college coaches are driving this process. It is not the parents and it is not the club coaches. Parents can't simply call up Maryland or North Carolina and say my daughter would like to commit. The coaches must watch the kids, identify the top talent and then recruit the player and make an offer.

- The Top Players are approached by the Top College Coaches and offered spots and scholarships. It does not go the other way.

I am not a fan of early recruiting but I think most of this article is BS.

Parents of kids who do not get recruited early don't like it because for many it is a reality check. It is tough to argue that your daughter is better than Susie when Maryland, North Carolina, Syracuse and Northwestern are recruiting Susie but not your daughter.

College coaches who do not want to recruit early don't like it because they know they are missing on some of the top players. They are at a competitive disadvantage and they know it.

Coaches are not forced to recruit early and players are not forced to commit.

Early recruiting is killing the game of lacrosse. Lacrosse was always a great team sport and like many other team sports it teaches you about teamwork, sportsmanship, commitment and may other key qualities.

A report just came out from Boston College about the effects that helicopter parents are having on students in college and their inability to cope or adapt. The same thing is happening in lacrosse. Parents need to understand that it is ok for kids to make mistakes, it ok for kids to lose.

Do I think the NCAA and both coaches associations need to make changes to early recruiting - YES. However, parents can also play their own part and help your daughters (or sons) by slowing the process down. Don't worry about what the girl on your team is doing, worry about yourself. Pick a school because it is a great academic fit for your daughter. A Place she would be happy at if her lax career ended tomorrow. In reality her lax career will most likely end when she graduates unless she goes into coaching or is in the top half of 1 percent of all the players and
plays for Team USA.

So due to early recruiting, we have seen a major shift in the game and how it is played. We have seen this firsthand in Maryland where girls are told to NOT play on their middle school teams but play on their club teams in a spring league.

However, for the overwhelming majority we are asking 13-15 year kids to make a decision on their future where they are not capable of really making this decision. Sounds like your first daughter was trying to keep up with her club friends. That's what is souring so many on the sport. Nobody can play just to play. If you are not being recruited or if playing in college isn't your dream, you are left behind.

I understand one of the directors left for the girls program at Igloo. Not sure why. Is this person in addition to the one mentioned above?

That is correct. I was told this weekend that in addition to the person that runs operations at Elevate, the director who I believe is also the varsity coach at North Shore also left Elevate and was told she went to Igloo. Can anyone confirm? Also what is with the mass exodus from Elevate?

Looks like North Shore wants to capture its players… dangle a carrot like playing for the NS varsity coach and you attract their players. Also convenient for their players. Win Win for them, builds their club and their HS team… and make some $$$$ in the process.

There's no mass exodus at elevate, not at least of players... quite the contrary, players are being tossed... perhaps some mgmt doesn't like it!?!? My take would be Elevate is trying to sneak it's way into the upper crust and to do so they are stooping to poaching and other underhanded operations (tryouts that have no bearing on who's going to be a on a team). Also I know for a fact that they are cutting/demoting some long time players that performed well for them for players that may not have even tried out or had good tryouts. Perhaps some of the mgmt isn't crazy about the shift from a loyalty based team to a cut-throat s-bag operation that to which DK is perhaps looking to elevate.

I was at Elevate tryouts with my daughter.... I hadn't seen prior tryout years but there were A LOT of girls there compared to the other tryouts we'd attended this year. If those numbers were down I'd be shocked.

Big win for igloo? Are you kidding. If it's MM she did nothing for the 2018 girls. That group was very talented a summer or two ago but she did nothing with them. Came to practice late. Never carried lax stick. Had kids raise their hand for the position they play and counted off the amount needed and they go in. Players not selected from practice performance caus she wasn't there to see them or even know them! Lol

MM is a great coach and a prominent coach on LI. I think that it would be hard to coach a team where the director takes over and doesn't allow you to do anything. I also think the motivation for her to excel is hard when coaches don't get paid for their work. Probably the reason why many coaches have left Elevate.

I couldn't agree more about MM. She's a terrific coach and outstanding role model for our girls. Igloo is fortunate to have her.

She is a great coach and that is why many of the kids followed her from elevate to igloo. Kids will certainly benefit from having her as a coach and a leader.

I'm sure she is a great coach when she applies herself, but the fact that she didn't even come to half of my daughter's practice or tournaments the past two years was very disappointing. She did apologize to our team (I believe she missed often for weddings), but why sign up for something that you can't commit to? I'm sure Igloo is an easier choice for her because they don't travel. I hope she'll be more committed to this program.

You are absolutely correct, she did not come to your daughters practice's or tournaments the last 2 years. That is probably because 2 years ago she coached 2018 and 2021 blue teams and then last year she was moved to coach the younger elevate teams (since elevate realised how great she was with the younger girls. That said, if your daughter was on 2018 or 2021 MM would not have been there last year, which is most likely why you didn't see her. Sounds like elevate is not communicating very well. You should find out who your daughters coach is this year so you aren't looking for MM again since she is at igloo.

MM is a great coach, sometimes parents don't realize the inner workings of a situation. I'm not claiming this was the issue or not, but I would love to give you and idea of what could be a issue; one if a coaching is coaching multiple teams, then their will be conflicts unless the directors ensure there will be none. Secondly, coaches don't coach so well if they are being mistreated or devalued. Also if a coach doesn't receive their checks for coaching; I don't know how motivated they are to come back year after year; or if they have to wait entire year to get their checks. Also if coaches are left to fend for themselves with practice fields, times and scheduling then they can have issues with holding practices. This is where a good organization will schedule everything, and the coach just shows up and does what he or she does best.

Is there a chink in the Yellow Jacket shield? Tryouts seemed a little down and rumblings about some kids going elsewhere looking for more playing time. I wouldn't be surprised. If you can't crack a top team or get on the field you should go somewhere else for a fresh start. Anyone know how many teams 2020 will have?

Can't speak for 2020 but 2021 must have had close to 100 with 15 new players.
Numbers did not look down to me but would also say not much depth of talent below the first 2 teams.. Will be interesting to see if they have enough to add a fourth team next year.

Don't kid yourself, there are rumblings every year on every team but for every girl that leaves there someone eager to take her spot. Heard it all, poor coaching, not enough playing time, girl moves down a team, girl feels she should have moved up, friends and family connection blah blah blah. Down is down PERIOD. Consumers chose to go somewhere else or left the game. Either is hit for the YJ's. You are either growing, holding or declining. YJ's went from growing to holding and now declining.

They are going from 5 to 4. The 5th team was a 2020/2021 team anyway so really, there is not much of a change at all.

Top teams are not on the decline. They got better, 2020 dropped one team and now they have four. Bunch of kids from 3rd and 4th left but blue will not miss a beat

You guys are so desperate its funny. If they had 6 teams at the age group again you would all be attacking them for calling themselves elite, now they have 4 so they are declining. If you look at it realistically YJ top team will easily be the best team on Long Island ,the best kids want to play on that team and only that team. Yj second team is equal to other LI clubs top team.They may have lost some of the lower level team players but again the best kids want to play for the best team.Talk about on the decline you should probably be looking else where.

Agree completely!...I hope that folks are starting to see the big picture, that just throwing good money at these programs for fancy swag and crappy coaching does nothing for their daughters...it is such a cash cow that has gotten soooo out of control. The only response parents have is to let their feet do the talking and either go elsewhere or just stick to something else. That is why programs like Liberty, Legacy and some smaller programs are becoming so attractive. They only have 2 teams at each level..thus insuring that that at least the girls who are in the program are not just gravy and funding the other teams.

personally I really couldn't care if they had 6 teams in the age group. everyone knows the talent will be and is stacked on that first team. That's great, good luck to them. Girls who are snubbed by the first team who still have very good talent could choose to play with the second team or maybe go elsewhere and help another top team compete. all their choice, and it's good to have choices. I'm surprised girls that have moved down from the 1st and second team of YJ the past haven't chosen other squads like Legacy and TG. The one girl left YJ Blue I think last year and did quite well with legacy, are there others that will choose similar paths?

Actually you are missing the point , its not the kids from the top teams that are leaving .The bottom teams do not shorten the bench. The top team in this age group plays everyone equal for the most part, they can do this as they are very deep and are midfield driven with the best midfielders in the age group by far.

This is so far off, it's ridiculous. The top team doesn't sub anyone in the tough games. They ride their top players and everyone else watches. 2nd line middies move to defense and attack and the others watch and cheer. In the other, non-competitive games, everyone plays equally. The parents have been told this and accept this. There are plenty of girls in this age group on other teams that are better than the bottom half of their roster. And quite honestly, they're probably better off.

I see Legacy's name a lot on this thread. Does anyone know how Legacy did at the tournaments this past summer? Hard facts please: tourneys played, who did they play, wins, losses, championships? What top tier teams did they face and how did they do, i.e. M&D, Heroes, SW, TLC, YJ Blue, Liberty Black, Elevate Blue, TG Black.

if you are on Curcios team and never see the field in big games how do you expect your daughter to get recruited? When coaches show up they want to see you play in crunch time not standing on the sidelines cheering with your war paint on

you are correct, but I will also add that as these girls get older the tournements become more "Showcases" and less "Championship"
Wins and losses dont matter as much. committed girls attend fewer tournaments opening up the field to those who are not.

I would think the girls would even work harder to try and be that one on the field at crunch time. Practice pays off... the girls on them field at some point worked hard than the girls on the bench. But YJ is very clear to reward talent and effort. Maybe a reality check for some.... and look in mirror and say I have to work harder.... don't blame coach or program.... in other words OWN it.

The coaches always do show up to see the top YJ teams, and its not always to the short bench games, so there will be plenty of opportunity for kids to get seen. Another option may be to go play for another club/team where you are now the go to player in crunch time. This would obviously be a much weaker team, would the coaches ever show up? That's the hard choice here, the answer will be different for different people.

My older daughter is playing for a mid D1, the school that she wanted. She sent an email and the coaches came and saw. Wasn't as complicated as many travel directors would like you to think. They requested that she attend a clinic at the school and the rest is history. Granted that she wasn't interested in the Marylands of the world. But then again most schools aren't in that position.

Completely agree. In fact, if you have a short list of desired schools, the camp/clinic at that school is the best way, by far, to be noticed. Way better than a coach coming to watch a tournament game. They get to work with the player directly, sometimes over multiple days. They get to know more about their personality and work ethic, and it shows them how truly interested the player is in their school. The tournament thing and the emphasis by some clubs on promoting their championships as a way to prove recruiting prowess is nonsense. The reason why YJ Blue girls get recruited is because they r great athletes and players. But the reason they are great athletes and players has very little to do w YJ. They likely would be that wherever they played. It reminds me of an IMG academy director I met in another sport. He said "We get 100 players come through here each year. 90 of them are what they are. With the ten truly great ones, if we haven't screwed them up by the time they leave we have done our job."

If the girls are good, they will find their way to the college that fits.

You need to play and be on the field. You are right again that coaches will come but what you don't say is they come when they can and stay for as long as they can. If they show for a game that you're buried on the bench you are screwed. Coaches don't care that your team won the tournament only parents and directors care about that.

Its actually better for you to be a starter on Jones than #25 on Curcio.

The jealousy of the top team in the country is so transparent. First I know that in 9 out of 10 games they play ,playing time is equal, in that other game some kids do play more than others but all get in.Second ,the team will be so stacked this year that equal playing time will almost be a given as I do not see too many teams that are going to keep it close .Third, the reason they do not want to switch to another club at this point they are the only true A level team left on Long Island .The next closest thing is a new club that essentially has been built upon disgruntled B team players ( I believe they will easily be the second best team in age group on LI this year as their coach is very good).Where would you want them to go to Liberty, Elevate,who are non competitive, or go to TG who now has a team that will be awful. If you want to go to Towson or Hofstra then TG is definitely the place to go as 14 of the last 25 commitments are to one of those schools.

I am guessing that he/she is first one in lobby of hotel before anyone else for breakfast, sporting the latest in YJ swag--just like the coaches wear..first one to the tent with fruit dish or home baked cookies...has the chair at midfield all day...prob with a YJ "My daughter is on YJ Blue team" bumper sticker.. jumps up and down during games....then drinks his/her beer later at the hotel bar real slow so he/she doesn't have to reach into the pocket to get next round..

I am pretty sure most college teams were playing this weekend. Loyola is hosting today as well as Penn State. Doesn't seem as if it would be a good weekend for exposure to coaches. Duke, UNC, Florida all playing in North Carolina.

Not sure what that means. They lost to a very good Hero's team their first game. The field was slick and there was a lot of slipping and sliding. Goalie was great, kept them in the game but they couldn't transition the ball down the field and score. The other three games they won by a margin of 15 points or more each.

If Curcio was there things would have been different.

Was this even the full Curcio team or a mix of girls from the 4 2020 teams? I know the 2021 team was a mixture and got handled 14-6 by M&D. Can't expect a mixed team to come down and compete with Hero's Green.

i dont know if coaching would have helped or not. Combo team or not they ran into a buzz saw known as 2020 Heros green. You better bring your A game when playing 2020 green heros. By the way the field was slippery for both teams. that was the first game the 2020 heros green played together this fall.

2 very good kids were not there and only 2 from other 2020 teams. We had almost everyone else on blue and didn't play well at all

I'm not a YJ parent. In fact I'm from MD. But thumping your chest after beating a mixed YJ team seems a little much. Show some class Hero's...There will be a lot of games played next summer between YJ, Heros and M&D. There will be a lot of games this fall between Heros and M&D. When all that is over, if Heros has proven to be the best, then go ahead and talk all you want. Last year Curcio was the best team. We will see what happens this year.

Heros parents at all ages have been talking a lot of trash since Bitmore folded and Heros grabbed their top players. Looking forward to seeing if they can back up the talk at the 2020 and 2021 ages.

YJ has a great team and always will. it is always great to play good competitive teams, then you can gauge how good your team really is. i believe Heros 2020 split with YJ winning the m & d tournament and losing to YJ in the championship game at Lax for the cure. By the way Heros 2020 added 3 girls and none were from Bitmore.

Not a YJ thing but any team that beats up on teams 20-1 has to expect everyone else watching hopes they get their asses kicked. Hard to root for teams that do that to weaker teams. Sorry

Those games suck on both sides. If the winning team has girls playing in different positions, using their off hands, making 5 passes or more before they shoot, what else do you want them to do. Is there no blame on the club director of the losing team for putting his/her team in that situation? Is it always the responsibility of the better team to throw the ball in a circle for 20 minutes? Everyone pays money to be in these tournaments. If the team can work on things to improve and that leads to goals, what else can they do? 20-1 games happen sometimes. It doesn't mean the winning team was necessarily being classless.

To be precise, YJ was 3-1 against Hero's last year. That was there only loss. They split games at M&D tournament and won pool play and final at Lax for the Cure. Expect lots of competitive games moving forward.

I believe Heroes green and YJ Curcio played 3 times last year with YJ taking 2 of the 3 . Each game was highly competitive and obviously should be so again .Those two teams are going to be involved in some great games in the future.

If anyone had 4 or more goals your argument doesn't hold water and in travel games mom and dad always say go to goal so I am betting the studs racked up a bunch of points before passing it around. Coach knows in the first 5 minutes what type of game it is going to be. No excuses

In our game this weekend that ended up 19-1, 14 girls scored. Including everyone that usually plays defense and doesn't usually get the opportunity. We have been in games where our goalies play attack and have scored. Not sure what else you want to coaches to do.

YJ won 3 out of 4 last year against Heros and were 4-0 vs M&D. Heros games were very competitive. Less so against M&D.

YJs also beat Legacy 8-5 And TG 3-2

What about shoot at goalie and work on transition from D to O. Doesn't have to be keep away. But we know, you paid for travel, your kid is a stud, and they shouldn't give out trophies for 2nd place so beat down 12 and 13 year overmatched girls

sounds like the "cut players" are in a better place. Also with the heros additions should do well for the forseeable future.the reason YJ and Heros are so competitive they play a similar style of game(tough physical) willing to bang not whine.

Not sure what you mean by "better place". If I had to choose between playing for a MIAA varsity coach at M&D and the Heros 2020 coaches I know which I would choose. What was the record between the two teams last spring/summer? Pretty sure M&D still won more.

keep drinking the black and red kool aid. that same team that you speak of in the MIAA got spanked by a PUBLIC school in carroll county last year which ended up being ranked #2 in the nation Manchester Valley. i think the score was 19 or 20 to 5, cant remember but whos counting. I doubt the coach is going to make too much of a difference. i also remember a drubbing 19-2 she took at the hands of Century another PUBLIC school that was nationally ranked at the time a few years ago. By the way the Heros coach check her bio at University of Maryland before you pop off . She was quite the lax star where she played for 4 years and even a better coach!

You are also talking about the MIAA school that was up on McDonogh with 4 minutes left in the championship game and lost by one. You are also talking about a coach that has won public school state championships at two different schools. I'm pretty sure she is going to do just fine at RPCS.

I'll take that resume over someone that was a "great player at Maryland" any day. BTW, my kid's not on M&D 2020. I would always choose an established coach over a "great former player". You don't need to have been a great player to be a great coach.

there is not another "team" sport where parents could care less about the teams success, if their daughter is not the star, than travel lax...it has spawned a generation of "me first" kids and worse, parents who live and die with their child's success on a lax field. Unfortunately we are ALL guilty of being those parents and anyone who says differently is an outright liar..it is really shameful when folks turn to berating kids or coaches on a lax website...maybe we do need President Bernie Sanders to make college free so we can all stop drinking the scholarship Kool-Aid...

Couldn't agree more. In our town if you aren't playing travel lax you are shunned and if you stick it out the ball never seems to find you. I have been hearing about recruiting and commiting on our PAL sideline since the 3rd GRADE! Some kids just want to play and the selfish play of the girls looking for the early verbal is driving kids away in droves. You hear very little about any of this INDIVIDUAL nonsense on any other sport sideline. Lacrosse sidelines are toxic and its a shame because it is a great sport being ruined by bad parents and selfish me first play.

Lacrosse growing? Not in our town - Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Football, Soccer, Volleyball all with more teams. Why do you think that is? Maybe we should start forcing some passing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. Nobody cares that your daughter scores 10 except her parents.

Please ,some of these coaches would do it for free. They make thousands doing private lessons and promoting kids to teams they do not belong on. Don't forget the fringe benefits like free meals at restaurants because the owner already pays for lessons but needs to secure his kids spot, or the coach who shows up early and stays late setting up the tents to secure his kids spots ,heard that coach was not even at tryouts, my guess is he was in the parking lot detailing the queens car. Pathetic, at some point these parents have to realize to just let their kids ability speak for themselves.

and not to belabor my point but think about this...go to any HS/AAU Football or Baseball or Basketball game and watch the stands when a team does something cool like score a nice touchdown/basket or make a great play on defense..the whole crowd gets into it and cheers..now watch the sidelines during your kids travel lax game...how many folks actually ever cheer for someone besides their own kids success?...maybe its because they pay buku $$ and think it entitles them to be selfish and narcissistic about their kids...watch what happens when their son/daughter gets the ball in the open field..how many "go to goal" or "shoot" shouts do you hear?...imagine if a kid got a rebound in basketball and the mom/dad was screaming to drive the length of the court for a shot..it would sound [lacrosse]..in Lax its almost expected...such a shame..

Couldn't agree more. Everyone cringes when someone other than their kid scores in lacrosse. This BS recruiting has ruined the game. But the parents of those skilled kids care less about everyone else. Here is the stock answer - Get on the wall if you cant keep up. I'm not going to apologize for my kid being so talented. What they don't understand is that we would all love to cheer for them like we do in football or basketball but when we are up by 10 pass the freakin ball and be a GOOD TEAMMATE!

I cheer for every kid on the field and can only hope it has some level of contagiousness. The sick thing is that when I see an amazing play by someone on the other team I may even DARE to utter 'good play' aloud to the opposing player. What sacrilege I suppose. I don't care what other parents think... if they think I'm an a-hole for rooting for their kid and others, so be it. Sounds like you are with the wrong club. My daughter's team is one of the most successful there is and they share the ball and parents cheer for all the girls. If any parent dared yell at their daughter to go to the goal there would be [lacrosse] to pay.

Actually, all or our games are recorded and you can hear the sidelines. Sorry that you have these issues. All i can say is that all sidelines aren't like that. Our coach wouldn't stand for it and would cut a girl if the parents acted that way. Maybe you need a new coach.
