Funny how the dads of avg club players on avg club teams are still whining about holdbacks when most of the kids on the clubs mentioned above played varsity as freshman (against much older players) and are committed to top schools..
While I agree on one hand that arguing about holdbacks for HS grade teams is somewhat overdone, on the other hand, why even bother having the 2020, 2019, and 2018 divisions then? If it truly doesn't matter, there is no reason to break them up - there should just be a bunch of "HS" divisions by ability, maybe an A, B, and C class to allow for similar scheduling/logistics. Grade/age would be a non-issue - you put a team together of 15 - 18 YOs, and enter them into the appropriate level they can play at. If you argue against complaining about holdbacks but you want grade-based HS divisions, you are talking out both sides of your mouth - you can't have it both ways.
We do have it both ways, dingus. Summer is set up by grade for scouting ease. HS is HS, because it is HS, and your HS is putting a team together for the sole purpose of playing other HS's in the HS divisions, in which the other HS's participate.
With the new recruiting rules, it doesn't make sense any more to have the class-based team divisions - talent can be evaluated based upon the play seen and the details on grade for any player is readily available to the coaches as provided by the tourney to the college coaches.
Oy vey. Firstly, I said scouting, which I believe you think is the same as recruiting (you probably should have done an extra year, or "held back" for educational purposes, if that is the case). Please explain how any coach would scout universal mixed HS teams with any relevance during Summer ball? Tell me how a coach looking to finish his 2020 board would remotely be able to scout in this manner, assuming he lives on the 24 hour per day clock like the rest of us humans? So instead of watching games over a weekend, for example, at NLF or Crabfeast, where many of the best within one class are playing - you would like for the coach to spend all Summer tracking down teams with 1,2,3 of these kids at a time playing on a mixed HS team, and after watching about 75 games, still not have us much 2020 data as you did during one playoff in one weekend at the aforementioned events? Same question for a coach looking to start a 2021 board, how would that work? It wouldn't. There is a reason it is set up as it is, which is scouting, followed by recruiting.
