Katherine Zisis, Roslyn: In one of the more touching sports-related scenes you’ll see, Zisis, a senior with pulmonary stenosis and development disability, scored a goal in her first varsity appearance on Saturday. Zisis has been the Bulldogs’ manager for four years and, in Roslyn’s last home game this season, she was cleared to play. She entered the game at low attack and scored in Roslyn’s 13-8 win over Wheatley. Kudos to Wheatley, too, for being classy and compassionate.

Morgan Jaycox, St. John the Baptist: Technically, not a Nassau team, but I can break my own rules... She had six goals, four assists and four draw controls in leading St. John the Baptist to the program’s first ever win over Sacred Heart, 18-7, on Friday. Hard to imagine that they’d never beaten them before, especially since they’re in the same league and play each other so often, and SJB coach Janine Pirone said the Cougars have had girls lacrosse for “at least 12 years.” That's something.
Colleen Lovett, Wantagh: Lovett’s been doing what she does, but a performance like this makes ‘em take notice: she had 28 points in three games last week, including eight goals and three assists in a 20-13 win over Plainedge on Thursday. When, in a high-scoring game, you contribute to as many goals as the opponent totaled, that’s not bad.
North Shore’s defense and Alexis Greene: The Vikings defense was stifling and goalie Alexis Greene made 12 saves in a 12-3 win over Long Beach on Thursday. Any time a defense can hold a girls lacrosse team to three goals – a Conference I team that isn’t a pushover, at that – it deserves to be commended.
Julia LoRusso, St. Dominic: In her first game in three weeks, LoRusso had four goals and three assists and scored the tying goal with 31 seconds left, and the winner 20 seconds later in a 22-21 victory over Carle Place last Monday. She also had three goals and three assists in an 11-8 win over St. Mary’s on Friday.
Jocelyn Penteck, Floral Park: She had 12 points in two games, including six goals in a win over East Meadow. Penteck scored the tying goal with 49 seconds left in regulation and the winner with 12 seconds left in the second overtime of the 11-10 victory.
Jackie Jahelka, Garden City: The senior excelled last week, despite coping with the loss of her grandfather. Jahelka scored three goals, including the winner in a 13-12 overtime thriller against Farmingdale on Thursday. Saturday, after attending the funeral, she had four goals and an assist in helping lead the Trojans to a 19-15 overtime win over Cold Spring Harbor.
Erin Vaughan-Ware, Sam Santeramo and Caitlyn Buckley, MacArthur: The Generals have been on a nice run of late. Vaughan-Ware, an eighth-grader, scored three goals in both of the Generals’ wins last week, and the freshman Buckley had three goals and an assist in an 8-4 win over previously undefeated Herricks. Santeramo had 12 saves in a 10-9 overtime win over Mepham, and 15 saves in the win over Herricks.
Cate Soccodato, Our Lady of Mercy: She’s still going. The sophomore attack had 19 points in two games, including five goals and eight assists in a 16-4 win over two-time defending CHSAA Class A champ St. Dominic. That’s a statement performance in a statement game.
Gabby Morrocu, Glen Cove: She’s been scorching the net lately. The senior has scored 24 goals in Glen Cove’s last three games, including a career-high nine in its 15-8 win over Great Neck South
