There's got to be a better way.
We all know that the better way is to build competitive Varsity League brackets based on the previous season with any huge exceptions noted by the High School Coaches.

Some readers might say that this would encourage a Varsity coach to sandbag a season - to "play down" in a lower bracket.

This is where the Nassau (Section VIII) ability based system is a huge step forward. Not only are the league games competitively balanced, but fewer playoff spots are available as you move down the division tables. If the Varsity coach's goal is playoff success, which it should be, a higher league bracket will increase the chances for a playoff berth.

Rather than forcing a .500 record or better for a playoff berth, you could play in a tougher division and still get several playoff victories against lower ranking teams.
