Copaigue may lack talent; but heart and desire are indeed present. It is indeed a shame when a coach will condone such unsportsmanlike behavior.
BOTC normally just allows the games to play out and we report the results, but the Copiague program is worthy of commentary. So far this season, the results this season stand thus : 18-0, 18-0, 17-2, 17-0, and 17-0. If you follow these scores back into 2012, you will see similar results. Walking into any of these matches, a team knows that Copiague will struggle to score before taking the field. Clearly, what we need to do as a lacrosse community is help Copiague raise their game.

Despite this fairly obvious call, some Varsity programs will just pound the scores as evidenced above. What is the goal? To have Copiague drop the girls program? To put those players into some type of afternoon limbo? Have them miss out on another activity that might add to a college application? Look, these are not going to be Division I lacrosse players, but these might be contributors to a college campus in many other ways.

The Suffolk County lacrosse community should be thinking of ways to help the Copiague program. Since these games are over by halftime according to the scoreboard, how about the other Suffolk County Varsity programs running training drills along with Copiague players to help them elevate their game?

There are some purists that will say "Hey, this is Varsity and it is time to put the diapers away". BOTC understands that perspective.

However, if you want to teach sportsmanship ... if you want your sophomores and juniors to have a college essay topic that truly means something to a community ... if you want to teach what leadership truly means ... now is the time to do something different.

Our question : Which coach will take the challenge? Which Varsity Team Captain will encourage their team to skip the stats padding and help another team?
