Bay Shore is making the case for Top 10 status

The Bay Shore girls' lacrosse team has picked up from where they left off last season — winning. The Marauders, who are the 2012 Long Island and Suffolk County champions, have been making a strong case to be in the Northeast Region Top 10 with an 9-0 record and a recent win over Northport (N.Y.).

Bay Shore is averaging 12 goals a game so far and hasn't allowed opponents to score double-digit points.

"We always have high expectations and the girls work very hard to meet them," said head coach Allison Pfeffer.

Bay Shore went 19-2 in 2012, though the Marauders came up short in the state playoffs, losing to West Genesee 10-9.

The Marauders have huge goals for 2013, and they are to be a NYS Scholar-All Athlete team, Suffolk champions and of course state champions.

"I always stress [that] hard work pays off in the classroom and on the field," said Pfeffer, who has been coaching at Bay Shore alongside her husband, John, since 1991 when the program started.

The Marauders are coming off a huge victory on April 20 when Bay Shore defeated a tough Wantagh (N.Y.) team 11-7. Bay Shore had three players with hat tricks: seniors Kaitlyn Arnold (Fairfield) and Cynthia Delcore (USC) and junior midfielder Kyra Harney (Duke). Goalie Dylan Teitelbaum (Frostburg State) had nine saves.

Other players to keep tabs on this season are senior defenders Perri Baker (Colorado) and Casey Taggart (San Diego State), junior defenders Allie Dolder (Penn State) and Corinne Schmidt (James Madison). Senior midfielder Amanda Voges (Tampa) and junior attackers Kristen Brigagliano (Colgate), Carly Cox (Colorado) and Katie Kirk (Hofstra).

Bay Shore has high expectations in 2013 and looks to continue to have a winning season with huge upcoming games against Suffolk rival Ward Melville (N.Y.) on April 26 and on May 13 against Shoreham Wading River at St. Joseph's College.
