As comfort to the parents of defensively positioned student-athletes, we can only offer the old sports axiom : "Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships".
It's cold comfort when you see your attack/midfield teammates get post-season awards and your skilled defender gets nothing. Not to mention she doesn't get to add that stuff to her athletic resume either. Kudos from the coaches are nice but some official recognition would be welcome, too.
FWIW, I'm trying to track my kid's GBs, CTO's, etc. myself now, just so we have something to put on her resume. Thing is, I don't have the knack. I forget I'm doing it, or plays happen in a crush of girls so I can't see what happened, and so forth. Asking my player after the game has not proved useful because she's not tracking that stuff in her head, she's busy defending.
