The 8th grader is second in scoring because the words pass and teamwork are not in her vocabulary
I see what you're saying but IME it still takes a skilled player of any age to single-handedly (as stated by you) to score. I've seen a lot of ball hogs get stuffed trying to hotdog it all by themselves.
That said, it is also my experience that when younger players get brought up they are less up to speed on the concept of teamwork as a whole.
