14 year olds on Varsity? Thats a lot of pressure (physically & mentally) to go out there with/against much older guys. What an accomplishment! Congratulations!

Lots of great players in Smithtown would love to move up to JV and Varsity. But the AD does not allow it! Too bad for the kids and program would be beneficial to let them start learning and growing the program. Should be equal opps for all the kids, districts shouldn't be allowed to make different rules, especially with all the early recruiting possibilities.

Smithtown varsity seems to be doing just fine without the toddlers.

Yes Mr Sarcastic, both East and West are doing just fine without the 8th graders....not the point! First off that is this year...seasons to come both teams will need the program to be built with a strong foundation from the bottom up. The choice of allowing an 8th grader to be moved up to JV or Varsity should be a coaches decision NOT the ADs "rule". Its all about feeding the program and it is done all over the state. It is the only district with a rule on the books that can not be changed without the school board and superientendents voting approval. That is not beneficial to the teams and players.

There are other towns that have rules that don't allow middle school kids to play high school sports. Farmingdale is one and they won the state championship just 2 years ago and the girls team has won a few in the last 10 years.
