As the father of a defender/middie, I say a big AMEN to this discussion! Luckily for her, she did play on a travel team that emphasized defense, and she excelled. She's a rising senior and she'll be playing in the CAA.
Good for you that your club preaches defense, our club treats it like PAL where the weaker kids desperate to stay on the top team are forced to change positions. Our team is 95% offense running through a few kids and 5% defense. Until defenders start getting the praise they deserve clubs will continue to pump up the players with the most points
