Understandable when you held him back for academic reasons and/or social reasons but why do you think it's fair he could be over a year older than kids he's playing against. For sports he should play with kids his own age. Size doesn't matter for academics but it DOES matter for sports. September is definitely fair! That allows kids a 3 month grace period who are held back. That's more than fair.
