I don’t understand why this makes people so upset. The statements made about holdbacks are the same ones made for the last 8 years on BOTC. This is not new. That said, would I be in favor of age, 1000%. But who has the power to make that change? The clubs do. PAL tried to go to age and the town directors voted Gongas down about 5 or 6 years ago! So stop blaming parents and start looking at PAL (who says they are for the kids and yet run football on age, lol) and ask your club director. Honestly, if the NLF decided they wanted age, it would change. But we know it won’t change, so move on with things and accept it.
Why complain? Because it’s a forum. They are allowed to complain about something that’s egregiously wrong especially if it’s new to them. If you want to eliminate chronic complaining on forums then you are going to eliminate most forums out there. The system is broken; people gonna complain. A better suggestion would be too stop reading the forums if it bothers you so much.
Fair enough, but in 2028 when your son graduates, there will still be holdbacks and the 2034 forum will be complaining about the same thing. Facts.
That’s correct. The sport is dictated by colleges and clubs. US lacrosse has no teeth. Holdbacks will continue. People will continue to complain not because it unfair (which it is) but it is inherently notIntelligent to holdback for lacrosse. It’s a lost year. Yes, all the success stories we see in lacrosse is due to holdbacks. But beyond those success stories are tons of kids who held back and didn’t benefit at all. And again, all for lacrosse which has a finite end.
How is it a lost year? If you could go back, Wouldn’t you like an extra year of schooling and socializing? Extra year(s) of playing a sports? Kind of a win win. It also gives kids an advantage in sports and being older socially. Real problem is, only elite can afford to do it.
Agree that it is for the elite but completely disagree that’s it’s not a lost year. Some need to reclass for maturity and academics but the majority do it for sport but in all honesty it would be ludicrous to repeat grades just for fun? Why not reclass 3-4 years then? I think we may be up having a Billy Madison moment. And if you look at it from a pure economic portion, every year reclassed is a year of lost income which I guess doesn’t matter when you are rich.
