Both tryouts are a farce, venom too. Maybe other teams as well. They already know who they want and probably offered it to them prior. The rest is just to make money.

Unfortunately, people like you think their children are better players than they actually are. They know who is good before tryouts buddy. Don’t have to be involved with the coaching. You’d be surprised how much parents talk how much parents have influence on some teams. Parents buddy up with coaches. Pay attention. You don’t have to believe it but kids knew they had spots before tryouts. Fact.

I'm going to tell you people now stop the nonsense. My son played 91 Venom gave up three goals had 10 saves played express north gave up one goal had 9 saves played bbl gave up 2 the first time had 8 saves second time played bbl had 4 goals had 14 saves put some dam respect on my son name. This organization is toxic and if they want me to expose them I will stop it or I will expose you. The last tournament he gave up 9 goals and ton saves on 5 games go check the scores.

Word of advice - don't post things about your own kid on BOTC. It's not going to go well for you, or for him.

You guys are calling out a specific 12 year old. Now is a good time to re-evaluate what you are doing and how you would feel if people were singling out your kid.

Express East, BTB, Rush and Rebels

This is fair, but really hard to project when you dont know how many kids on each team are too old to participate. 3d NE is an excellent squad that could make a run if their kids can play. Freedom or some combo of philly kids could also be in the mix. And texas Nationals could be higher on this list if kids are on age.

Freedom kids seemed older but I have no evidence besides their appearance. Interested to know.

And you have no idea what teams made improvements.

BTB's tryouts are this week

I know season hasn't started and Legacy is number one they added 10 players relax.

Legacy is done at most ages.

[ChillLaxin] up bc they had plenty of kids at the 2028 tryout. Also, the calling out of an individual (goalie) is beyond pathetic. They are all kids please remember that.

Top talent is not going to a b team, too many other options. Your top level kid that doesn’t make Venom would certainly go to more competitive option locally.

Nassau - Express, S2S, BTB, Igloo

Suffolk - Legacy, Rush, Rebels, Express East? Rebels East?

No reason to be the 7th midfielder or 4th attack on express or venom when you can start on one of the other teams.

Did Surge and Igloo play this past season? I would've thought Surge was the better team between the two.

Would you recommend joining a "B" Team for $3,500 for the year or use that money and find multiple clinics throughout the year. I feel that travel teams, even B travel teams focus most on winning and less on teaching and developing the kids

For some that’s true but there are examples where the second team gets just as good teaching and developing as the first team.

Surge is where it’s at

Not at 91. B teams are always second class citizens.

As B teams go. 91 B teams beat all the other Long Island programs B teams. And a lot of programs A teams.

and they run 25-30 deep, B teams are made up of the money clubs don’t want to turn away.

So…if Surge is beating A teams why aren’t they playing in A brackets? How much of challenge is it for the players if they aren’t getting any competition in the B brackets? That’s right. They can’t because they could play in same bracket as venom and god forbid surge ever beat Venom… lol

Hitmen still has upcoming tryouts this weekend and only $50 (and half the price of other clubs). Yes a B team but you're not second fiddle to the "A" team....nor do you face low turnout practices due to typical B team parents.
It is coached by a 2x All American and NCAA champion who can actually move on the field with the boys. If you're tired of the big money clubs (with rosters that are locked) give it a shot. They are not AA and not planning on going to the WSOL but they have great coaching.....and they are just coming off a big tourney win in their division in Lake George Tourney this past weekend.

They don’t beat a lot of A teams. Look it up.

Surge will be fine with or without your kid. It's a non toxic environment and we get very good coaching. I know my son really enjoys being on this team. Go find his happiness

Rush lost 1 good middie to Legacy, will the turtles kids that could barely beat b teams help Legacy that much? They’ll certainly be better but no where near Venom. Btb will be a failed experiment losing all the turtles kids

What is a good team for a kid that has been playing for their town for a few years and now wants to play for a club. We have done a few tryouts for clubs that I think are B teams. He would like to improve but there isn’t enough training at a town level. Any suggestions? What if you are a decent player with room for improvement with the right training and experience? Is there a club for this type of player?

All teams are listed above in the rankings (sans the turtles) all team in the top 100 will be very tough to get onto. Most second teams will be looking for players, try and find a team with decent coaches, not a team a team coached by kids that might have played a few years of college ball. Try and find a teach coached by atleast a HS varsity coach that is vested in bettering the team

Try to find a single team club team that plays in the B brackets....... Hitmen, GSB, BTB (this year), Turtles (this year), ICON, Recon, Checkmates, 24

If you’re suffolk. I would check out rebels east and express east as well. New this year, so there will be xtra time and attention paid to those programs to try to make them successful

Does Surge need a second goalie?

No matter what level team you are considering, I would avoid parent coaches. Not that they don't know the game, but their natural bias will inevitably affect the coaching.

How do you come up with s2s so high in the rankings? Who did they beat this summer? Did they get new kids these tryouts?

I think you’re all getting ahead of yourselves with these pre season rankings. Nobody really knows who ended up where and who improved or who didn’t. The only sure thing is venom will once again be solid.

A friend of mine who's on the hydra says only the hydra team is going to try to qualify for the world series. they have 3 teams at this age but the other 2 are B and C level

Last years Hydra is now Rebels East Hydra. Same team, different name. They added a few kids with tryouts. I believe they only have 2 teams. Hydra and then the "B" team.

Because it’s a great team to be on. All the coaches are great, the boys are getting better and everyone is all in. Don’t worry about us and concentrate on your son’s team.

Express already has 30 and we haven’t had the mid-season add or the late 2009’s join the party.

Look at every team playing. Good 5-8 kids and parents per game, going home upset with playing time. That goes for A teams and B teams.
Perhaps some parents look at their kid and decides that since he loves being on a team, loves playing lacrosse, is getting better as a player that they’ll deal.
Unfortunately playing just PAL (in the past) and now upcoming school lax will not be enough. Unfortunately, this sport has become competitive big business.
Focus on your kid. If he’s one of the “key players” on a team, great for you and him.
If he’s developing, go where you need to go to keep improving, get great coaching and try to enjoy the journey.
They’re going into 7th grade.

What’s the deal with the World Series of lacrosse, or whatever it will be called this year? I assume there is a tournament that determines who gets invited. So how is it determined who gets to that preliminary tournament? Also, how many teams go from each region? I see that Long Island falls under the “north” category. I’m not asking for predictions or the other [Censored] on here. My son was asking and we looked it up but couldn’t find the definitive answers. From what we found, there are only 4-5 teams per region that make it. But we could not determine how you get to compete for a chance to even make it into the World Series itself.

Any team of on age kids living within 100 miles can enter a qualifier. The number of teams that qualify from a region seems to reflect on the number of teams competing in that region.

Close but missing some things. Some teams listed lost more than you stated and some gained more impactful players than you think. The 5 top teams on Long Island will look very different this year and time will tell. The least amount of change of those teams will be 91 but they upgraded.
Also, neither one of you should make assumptions on who tried out where and who got cut.

Final us club ranking still a bit silly.

Also probably all teams added, doesn’t mean all the additions are impactful. There were only a few additions to venom and in my opinion only the 2way player stands out.

91 Dad above assumes that everyone that isn’t on the 91 roster wasn’t offered a spot on the team. You would be mistaken. Some kids do turn down 91 for other teams and some kids that get recruited to join the team behind the scenes also turn them down.

Is the 2Way kid going to Venom the kid who cheated by playing 2028 all summer when in fact a 2027?

We played Madlax at NLF and they are very legit. Really strong D w a very, very good (albeit small in stature) goalie in the back… they beat 2Way handily who beat everyone else this summer.
Puberty about to change everything though— big changes between now and next spring.

Changes nothing…the best teams will still be the best teams. The only thing that will change is excuses of why a team loses and how another team is cheating with older players. Snore…snore…snore…

2-way without those two 27s (one might even be 26-aged) might be out of the top 9 conversation. BBL has improved a lot and def should be in top 9. NL....eh, I'm not so sure. They play cupcake tournaments and have only two studs - FO and Goalie. Other than those 2 they are pretty average. TX Nationals are very good. A lot of athletes. If their best attackman actually learned how to pass and share the ball (a huge complaint amongst the parents) they'd be even better. Express North.....come on. They play well in the fall when teams are missing kids for football. If they are top 9.....then they are #9.

Hawks are consistently the best team. Period. I don't think there is much debate there. Madlax would be even better if they had a true FOGO but reports on MD Main Forum is they fixed their FO issues... maybe they have given their 2Way win. Who knows.

Without #1 and #8, the two 2027 studs— 2Way is literally not a top 25 team. Those two score 12 of the 14 goals against Venom at NLF.

Madlax has older kids flat out. Your attackman will be 14 any minute. Don’t believe me check out the Maryland BOTC forum. They all acknowledge Madlax among others have older kids. Some of this is due to different school cutoff dates and some of it is holdbacks. They don’t play in the World Series for a reason.

Clearly you haven’t played Madlax or you’d have seen the 3 Attackmen are the smallest kids on the field, both teams included. They are 12 years old.

Many rumor weeds on him but consensus is he's a Dec 2008 late class. Also, some info he tore up attack for ML 27's with many complaints he was a 26 reclass. Was moved to ML28 to make room for coaches kid who came over from BLC during the ML raid of that team and add size to a tiny ML28 team at the time. Regardless, the kid is very talented and has a two handed accurate cannon for a shot especially lefty. Plays with vision and a bit of an edge. Tired of him beating us but love watching him play and he's a really nice kid who's friends with my son and a bunch of his teammates.

When 47 came over from ML 27 to 28s he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He's improved a ton and did the hard work himself. He came to ML before the BLC transition. Thus ML27 lefty came after (and should not be on the Cap Team fwiw). My son has been on 28s for years. That is the time line.

Valid point. Don’t blame the kids or the parents who are smart enough to re-class and dominate kids a year younger. Their kids are going to take the spots to play lacrosse at Duke, Princeton, Yale, etc. Facts are the facts and the kids who are playing down are simply better on average than the kids playing on age. Again, blame the system which I would agree is flawed for not doing it by age. But you really can’t blame the parents. They’re the smartest ones in the room. And my kid is not held back, too late. Already in seventh grade I wouldn’t do that at this point as much as I would like to give him an advantage.

You should focus on the positives and understand a lot these holdbacks happen so much earlier, most just start school late, Any opportunity to help gain entrance to a better college and a perhaps scholarship or not. And I think that is the motivation for holding back.

Yes. Being a holdback is necessary to get to the top of the lacrosse mountain. But two things to consider: the lacrosse mountain is a mere hill when compared to the major college sports. Second, the majority of holdbacks do not have the same success. Lacrosse only highlights the success stories. But no one sees all the reclasses that it doesn’t help. The combination of those two things means that the majority of kids shouldn’t reclass because it doesn’t make sense for most.

I watched that game and I don't have a dog in the fight. St. As got roped. They looked like a JV squad compared to SJCH.

It wasn’t size, it was speed and athleticism. St Johns was a notch above in those areas. But St Anthonys was a fantastic team last year, so it goes to show good that St Johns team was. And the St Johns goalie is the best HS goalie I have ever seen. My opinion, but he was phenomenal!!

I went to the SJCH vs. Georgetown Prep game early in the spring season and it was a massacre. Gprep is no slouch either. A sizeable portion of their team is made up of the Madlax 2023 DC Dogs, which is an incredible club team. However, it looked like Prep was standing still next to SJ. Incredible lacrosse team. Will be interesting to see how they are this year.

Grade, Its rich private school kids playing down their kids against middle class public school kids.

Lacrosse wrongly goes by grade not age so the mid Atlantic region has an advantage in school because they have a different school cutoff than NY so some of their kids will be in the correct grade for their region but roughly a year older than some of our kids. On top of that then some hold their kids back before starting school ie, Kindergarten, or 5th/8th grade. No sport is designed for holdbacks but grade based sports reward insane parents who holdback their children.

It’s a shame, because it makes the sport elitist. Hard fur the average family to have the $$s ti play the holdback angle! Private school too expensive for most.

Please stop telling people to not be upset that other people cheat. Simply stated holdbacks are cheaters. Yes no one stops them now but no one tests for PED’s in kids club lacrosse either but I bet you would be upset if a 200lb 7th grader hopped up on steroids ran your kid over and injured him. Some of these holdbacks are 2 years older. If they are a couple of years into puberty when your kid hasn’t hit puberty yet there can be a huge size and strength disparity which brings about an added level of danger beyond what would normally be accepted in an age based contact sport.

I actually feel that if I engage in the club circuit I will encounter an age disparity and that is my decision. So I do not care even though my child is on age. What I have a hard time with is these older/holdback/reclass kids doing their goal celebrations when they full well know they just stuffed a goal against a younger kid after beating a younger defender. Are we teaching kids that beating the underdog is worth celebrating? Play on the team but seriously kid, you look foolish.

Club LAX isn't alone in being grade based. Most youth basketball leagues are GRADE based.

There are also tackle football leagues that are GRADE based. There is a local league near me that is grade based and boasts that 9 NFL players have come up thru their program.

Agree that it is for the elite but completely disagree that’s it’s not a lost year. Some need to reclass for maturity and academics but the majority do it for sport but in all honesty it would be ludicrous to repeat grades just for fun? Why not reclass 3-4 years then? I think we may be up having a Billy Madison moment. And if you look at it from a pure economic portion, every year reclassed is a year of lost income which I guess doesn’t matter when you are rich.

I have a HS aged child and this conversation is still going on in those threads.....and at that point why does it matter as they are already playing with older/younger kids, etc? Coach your kid up, get him into strength and speed training. I have seen holdbacks that haven't hit puberty that are smaller and slower than the on-age kids. It may irritate you now, but I am telling you it all evens out (pretty much) by the end. You are all getting worked up about something you have no control over.

I like BOTC to hear about who is playing in what tournies, clubs merging and the various gossip around daddy-ball coaching etc. The holdback stuff is exhausting.

At the price point of travel lacrosse at the elite level there should be ZERO daddy ball coaches. Sure every so often he's the best kid on the team, but more often than not that is not the case. These club owners use this method to cut coaching costs and lacrosse-coach dads want there kid on the field 100% of the time, talent be damned. That's why they do it and that's why most of the coaching-dads don't have the most talented athletes.

The PLL won't say a darn thing about holdbacks as they BEG all the local travel clubs to sponsor their games and turnout fans. The holdback issue will never change. EVER. NEVER. NOTHAPPENING. The clubs control the system....and they always will because they are the people who send kids to college and keep the machine moving. College coaches don't give two-hoots about it because they just want the best players.....1 or 2 or 3 years older. Doesn't matter to them.

These teams cant be all AA teams w 30 kids each. There are not that many top players around LI. Max should be 23 at this level but some teams take the money over the prestige.. It is a business.

If the coaches play to win not all kids will see the field, at least not much. If they play to keep parents happy they will lose and nobody is happy.
Teams don’t cut much it seems these days. Money and relationships play a part. Gotta keep johnny on the team or so and so might leave. See it way too often.

Maryland forum is pretty busy right now as all the Holdback Dad’s are nervous about the USCL Reclass poll results. Apparently they are in the extreme minority when it comes to being against on age Lacrosse. Maybe you want to go back now and join them. Your secret is out and the scrutiny is beginning, enjoy!

ML dad again. I don't care about holdbacks because my son is on age as defined by the public schoolers. I have been through this before because I have older kids as well and have gone through this in HS already. Importantly, nor do I live vicariously through my kids' lacrosse play...so whatever. If "they" (define "they" for me please) change the rules then everybody moves up or stays and it will all shake out. Once the kids hit HS if you still care about holdbacks you are going to be one very sadsack dad.

The MD teams cannot beat the LI teams if the change is made from grade to age. Since MD is predominantly private schools and really run club lacrosse, it will be shocking if the change happens despite the overwhelming majority of parents asking for the change to happen.

19 is still a Major holdback my child was 17 when he graduated.

17 is truly on the younger side. I would think most graduate at 18.

As per JS he’s def on the older side for LI standards but prob very comparable to the majority of the mid-Atlantic students.

Big tasty (the St. John goalie) who apparently “plays up” is a early 2004. Most LI / NY 2004’s are currently in college.

C'mon, don't bring up the handful of outliers. LI has two private schools that play - Chaminade/St Anthony's. You'll find your holdbacks there. Everyone else goes to public school where you are not allowed to Pre-K or reclass. If you're a holdback in a public school in LI, its because you cant read or add very well, and no one wanted to be looked at as the old dense kid in school.

We played two way at NLS, and they had two dudes that were the best players on the to a 2027 team. The venom coach told me firsthand that they are still 2027, but “thinking about re-classing and going to Brunswick next year.” That folks, is cheating. You can’t re-class and not actually re-class. Apparently they’re still in 2027 or eighth grade this fall. Priceless. Can’t wait to run into that team again soon, their parents were muppets too.

Yea, that's pretty awful but at this point, who cares. They are all cheating, regardless if they T-K, Pre-K, Reclass, pretend to reclass, its all the same situation. The only difference in this example is that these two didn't yet pay their private school fees to get away with it.

Are any 28's outside of LI left to play in the WSYL or are they all 29s? I feel bad for any of the on age kids in MD. I would imagine there are only a small handful on each team.

Holdbacks and reclassification are part of the game. The coaches and kids who get beat up by them accept it. The parents of the kids who get beat up by the older kids sort of accept it, although they do occasionally come on here to complain about the unfairness. And they are right to complain.
It’s the parents who have kids on these “older” teams that do not see it. They boast about certain clubs losing games and rip apart those clubs, particularly those on Long Island. Last spring venom was bashed because they lost a game or two down south. Really??? They are literally the best on age team in the entire country. These parents also bash the World Series as a waste of money and not a good tournament. Well, of course you’re gonna bash a tournament that simply will not allow your sons true team to participate in.
At least 10 of the top 20 ranked teams last year are NOT entering it with the same teams they field all year because they can not, as it would be an age violation. They are great teams with talented boys and obviously very committed parents and well coached. But facts are facts. And if they put together a legal team they will NOT win it because they will be missing all of their best (oldest) players.
Anyone else who is bashing a particular club on here, or worse yet, a particular player or insinuating about a certain position on a team, is simply upset that their kid got cut. It’s a fact. Either that or you have a personal issue with a coach or owner.
Moving forward keep the following in mind.
Kids are on here. They rarely post but they certainly read. Keep the insults of players and clubs to a minimum please. I can name 4 clubs that have been ripped apart and made fun of in the last month on this board. It’s not kids who are making these comments. But put yourselves in their shoes. They aren’t the best talent and they aren’t on the best team in their area and they come on here and read about the very team they are happy to be on getting bashed.

Not what I meant. Kids from all sorts of clubs and all talent levels read this forum. My point was about being specific about clubs and teams. I used an example of the “not best talent” to reiterate a point. Take venom for instance, literally the best on age team in the country. Yet people had the audacity to call them out for losing. The kid who reads that is just as vulnerable to the words of “adults”.
Not necessary to call out a specific team about them not being good. Its been done on here way to frequently. It’s completely unnecessary. I never mentioned specific clubs who get beat up on this forum and I did that on purpose. I should have prefaced it differently perhaps.

Outside of the standard NY tourneys, where very rarely will you find holdbacks, It is the only legit event in youth club lacrosse...Sorry, but this is the truth.
No one is impressed with teams made up of older kids beating up on younger kids.

Facts. This is happening throughout the country. You'll find clubs with regional and national teams but can't field a WSYL team for the very reasons noted above. It's comical at this point.

I believe teams in The Circuit are allowed 3 age exceptions. Birth certificates, etc have to be submitted for verification.

Wow, the people have spoken and the US club lacrosse survey garnered enough attention to make some changes. It sounds like the grade to age change will begin in 2024. It won't effect this age group, as they will move from age back to grade in HS from what I understand, but at least moving forward there will be some structure to youth club lacrosse and hopefully keep the sport moving forward.

Incredible. Good for US lacrosse for stepping up and making the change with safety being the priority for U-15 down. I agree, the reclassing is acceptable in HS for recruiting purposes but for the younger kids its just a safety issue.

I always thought it was weird that US lacrosse would have a U-16/ U-18/ U-21 team but not enforce any of the club ages.

Maybe for the 7-8 per team that probably aren’t going to get playing time. Multiply that by the 3-4 teams that have what you deem as large rosters. Do the math. 25-40 parents that willingly are paying money, most likely knowing game time will be limited. That’s more of an issue than the thousands of people screaming for a change. Stop obsessing over how other people spend their money? You really are ignorant and have a gripe. It’s painfully obvious to everyone except yourself.

I will say that if this is true this is a massive reality check for a lot of people.

The kids that have been hitting the wall will finally get rewarded for their hard work, the holdbacks will now have to hit the wall and get to work, the on age kids that didn't put in the work can no longer complain about the holdbacks, the coaches will now have to actually coach up their kids instead of just having the team with the oldest kids, the tournament directors will now have to be accountable for safety, etc. Its a win all around.

Even the reclasses will still be rewarded in HS when it matters for recruiting anyway.

Agree. A lot of new talent this year and team got heavier with reclasses. This is usually the time these LE teams start get better but I bet they are stronger than a normal LE grade 7 team.

As many as possible. Concussions be damned. These club teams need to win no matter what. Tourney directors need to profit. There is a lot of $ at stake. Rules are no loner applicable.
