what are the chances of a 2024 making UA?

Usually take a handful of the younger grade. Maybe less this year though as the 2023 class on LI seems particularly strong.

Corrigan has already reached out to multiple club directors to apologize for the results of the try out. There were more YJ 24’s and Jesters that made the call back list then any other 23 club on the island and he knows he has major issues. Having an 18 yr old evaluator didn’t help either.

I played modified or JV last year and I am on the B team of my club but I am an all American believe me...those empty profiles will look great in their UA books.

UA try out was a circus to say the least.

Actually got that wrong. The 2023 group is just lacking a dominate team from any club. LI has always had a team or two that could go down and handle all the MD teams. This age group does have some talented kids, just to spread out over so many programs, there is not a strong team among them. Players who could be a solid middle of the road player on the top team are leaving programs to go be the top players on lesser teams.

I didn’t realize the tryout was last month 🤔. I thought it was yesterday? How she played against YJ 2023 shouldn’t matter. It should be how she played yesterday. I guess the team was picked a month ago

She earned it once her YJ mom offered to be an evaluator.

Next year there will be less people once they realize the YJ run the tournament and if you aren't on YJ you are wasting your money.

Are you telling me that no TG girls made the team? Did the TG girls even tryout? What about Legacy? They have a few real good girls who should be on as well. I'm wondering if many girls didn't even bother with everything else going on. Lets face it, this is not the premier event that it normally is. Pretty clear to see that the organizers just threw something together so they could collect$$$

YJ/Jesters coaches have ruined this tournament going forward. Corrigan won't see another penny from people outside of those 2 clubs.

1 Legacy girl made it, 1 TG black girl made it (10 tried out), 2 YJ Gold players, and 12 YJ Blue players. Thorn didn't try and disguise it at all she was taking her players regardless if other girls deserved the nod. Corrigan first lost UA as a sponsor and now I'm sure have lost the other clubs who will let them know its a completely biased tryout and tell their players to save their money don't tryout.

How does only one TG player make the team and 14YJs? You have to wonder how that could even happen in a fair tryout? TG is regarded as a top team on LI, never been beaten by any other LI team in the age group, and your telling me that only one of their players is good enough to make the UA team? Please explain!

best player on TG went to Jesters, 2nd best is injured, 2 other top 10 kids are injured. This isn't 2017 anymore: it's more what have you done for me lately. You lose so many players like that and you become lot more average

TG had 1 player make it and it would have been 2 if LD did not just leave to Jesters. With another TG stud that made it last year out injured...that accounted for 3 of their top players with 2 making it. Leg girl that made it is their premier player. Goalie not there. Others not quite same. 4 were Igloo.

The names on the roster are the same names that have topped various ranking lists. Inside Lacrosse, Back of The Cage, even a few on Newsday. Could some be interchanged? sure. The evaluators watched how they played Thursday and Thursday only. No one ever questioned the YJ talent, they question their ability to play as a team. All earned their spots.

One 23 TG made the team! Shocking seeing that they are ranked 1, 2 or 3. And seem to roll over all LI 23 teams. At least those LI teams who will take the field against them. Which LI teams have yet to play them?

So is it absolutely true, 100%, that UA will not be sponsoring the tryouts next year? If so, any thoughts about which company if any, pwill step in to sponsor providing they are able to attract the top athletes from LI and/or each region for that matter.

Jesters have and always will be less than average. Daddy and mommy coaches kids make the team. Talk about less than average.

Very good if you are the daughter of the coach.

Keep telling yourself that and she’ll end up like the older daughter.

Weak players is an understatement. Some of them can’t even make their own clubs A teams.

All spots were earned most certainly not based on their tryouts they strictly earned by their coach being there and pushing them through.

Maybe you should be asking the Smiths where they were Thursday... certainly they should have had one coach evaluating and making a case for their players. With all the ball hogging and lack of passing going on it’s basically impossible to have a good tryout.. the evaluators know the players and are pushing for the girls they know will compete for them.

All spots were earned most certainly not based on their tryouts they strictly earned by their coach being there and pushing them through.

Honestly that was so upsetting to see what happened at the UA tryouts. I was under the impression that the girls were being evaluated objectively. I truly believed that it would be a fair process. It was not. Shame on me for putting my kid through that and wasting my time. We did it for the experience my daughter knew it was a long shot for her and thats ok. The lesson that she got out of it was the only way you make it in girls lax is not through hard work but who you know and what team you are on and if your coach was there . Shame on Corrigan sports Shame on the shady coaches everyone saw through it Congrats to the girls that made it. Some of the deservedly so from their history in the game. It is a shame that the actions of the coaches have really taken away the value of it. There was a huge shadow cast on the program.

i agree ithink the point was that was trying to make it wasn't a true tryout which i think many agree with. if you scroll through..seems like the theme. whether you made it or not the whole thing was a sham. money grab and deceitful takes away from the kids that made it too

Well said! There has to be a better way! They could at least swap coaches from different regions for the tryout. Like NJ does NY and vice versa. Wouldn't be perfect but a definite improvement. It just doesn't work the way it's being done. The numbers just don't lie! And you right that it diminishes the achievements. There a few girls who really stood out, so many that were interchangeable, yet the roster was primarily made up of the club coaches kids. Not right! Can't believe that adult coaches are so blatantly biased. Gives me a better understanding of the BLM movement!

Bottom Line evaluations should be conducted by non partial evaluators. Things seem a little fishy when a YJ coach selects 15 players from her own club and the Jesters coach selects 5 players from his team.

YJ with 12 UA girls lost to the Jesters. What does that say about Thorn as a coach?

Complain all you want but when you look back at the players that have participated in the underclass games most went on to the best college programs and had / are having good college careers (at the best programs). When you look at the players selected to the Senior Under Armour All-American Team just about all of the players go on to the top college programs and they have great careers. There are not 100 players on Long Island that are all interchangeable. there is a small group that are better than the rest. Since they combine the grades for the team there are probably 10 - 15 players at each grade that would make the team if there was a team for each grade. Thee will always be some politics and bias but over the years UA has done a pretty good job.

Very true. However I believe paying Corrigan $175 for 3 20 minute games he should be able to provide evaluators. Club coaches will always give preferential treatment to their own players.

2 years ago these girls were 12. This was a game vs the Thorn/Igloo merged team. Stop trying to reduce it by calling it a scrimmage. They played full regulation with paid officials. It’s on Utube. Watch it.

You play a game, the goal is winning by both teams.
a scrimmage is totally different; can play 2 goalies. reserve attackman and defenders. Winning isn’t always paramount. I don’t know what either of these coaches intention was but I got to believe that neither thought people be talking about a scrimmage 2 months later.

who told you it was a game?? game for what league or what tourney, send me the box score and standings. Stop with it had officials.......so that makes it a game.
Play in college or HS and you have a scrimmage; are there refs there?? of course
Bottom line is nobody cares about the scrimmage or the score, we care about the process and getting your son or daughter into a great college. The list every single year on the YJ website is proof. horn is filled with top D1 prospects. Make sure you tell Cathy Reese you beat Thorn in a scrimmage with real live officials and it's even on youtube. very sad the things we hang out hat on.

Or, those were the best players at the try out. Did we expect a lot 2024s to make it on a 24/23 team? As someone said, long shot for most. I think there were maybe 2 or 3 last year, my point not many. I hear a lot of complaining about the evaluators. 2 were from Jesters and one was YJ. Jesters only took 4-5 girls, so coming down on them over the number of kids from their team is a little ridiculous. Yjs team is stacked after picking up igloo, no surprise there. What’s going to happen next year when the promising 2025 class show up? Stop complaining and train!

The fact that you expect impartial evaluators in anything is laughable. no offense but you are very naive. my daughter got overlooked at UA every year. after the first year.she did not even want to try out but she always made the uncommitted team and she did so well that we bought the tryout tape. it was pretty funny watching her beat the girls who made it over her on video. If yor daughter played as well as you say then i am telling you to do the same thing i did. it only helped her during recruiting as she had great highlights. now she has a full tuition athletic scholarship. I pay room and board. laughing all the way to the bank. I say let them keep UA as is... she dint make it adn it worked out freaking great.

the uncommitted girls play against other 'uncommitted' girls AKA the girls who didn't make the UA team. Those girls don't play against the girls who made the team. You make the team you play other regions; not girls that got cut. Your daughter may have played well enough to buy the film, but stick to the facts; they don't play the girls who Made the team congrats on your full tuition deal.

He/she said they bought the tryout tape, not the uncommitted game film. I assume a player who makes the uncommitted team made the callback game, so likely got film playing with and against some highly recruited players.

We just returned to San Diego (Mad Dog West Elite girls 2024) from Prime Time and LAX Recruiting Challenge. Wanted to give the Mid-atlantic region cudos for putting together a great weekend of lacrosse. The competition our girls faced was significantly better overall than what they face in California and we are looking forward to more trips out here in the future.

As we are not very familiar with the Eastern teams, I was curious what the forum thought about the teams that our girls faced (MD United, LI Legacy, M&D Red, Mesa Elite, Phantastix Purple, and Carolina Fever)? Our girls had a good weekend (6-0; I realize that COVID rules/no draws change things a bit) and we are trying to gauge where the team is relative to the rest of the country. Obviously the vast majority of the talent is out East so it is fun to pick the brains of people who understand the lacrosse landscape at a national level.

By the way I am new to this forum and apologize if this type of question has been asked by other Western parents previously.

The last 4 teams are B teams in top clubs or top teams from B level clubs. The first two are A- .

Gotcha. That is what we gathered based on the 2019 US Club Lax final rankings as well as the level of play on the field.

We definitely noticed that the Eastern teams had excellent game IQ and stick skills, certainly compared to the Western teams. Probably because so many of our players are converted soccer players who are getting a bit of a late start to lacrosse. In general your teams play a more sophisticated offense compared to what is played out West, where many teams will give the ball to their one or two fastest players and have them try to score off isolation.

That makes sense because some of the teams you played have top level coaching where "me" ball is frowned upon. You also got to play both Maryland teams and a Long Island team which have different play styles.

Here, the top athletes with top level stick skills will concentrate in a few clubs. Those clubs will attract talent regardless of coaching, so the players themselves may be fantastic but their team ball may or may not be great depending on the coach assigned to the team. Regardless, they are generally very competitive because of the level of talent on the team. The next tier down will attract girls who are either great athletes but have moderate stick skills or the opposite, great sticks but moderate athletes, and lastly a few parents or girls who are tired of the top tier politics. Those middle tier teams usually survive on good coaching, because without it, they can't compete and would end up in the B tier and then have a mass exodus of players. The B tier is generally considered the "money grab", coaching is a hit or a miss, they get poor tournament selections and lousy brackets and players who for one reason or another are less committed.

Sounds a lot like the soccer landscape in SoCal. The elite clubs like Surf, Blues, Slammers get elite talent regardless of which coach is assigned. The next tier clubs get girls with high ceilings and/or average athleticism with excellent fundamentals, and coaching is what keeps them knocking on the door for the "super brackets" that everyone is striving to get accepted into for recruiting purposes.

I am hopeful that some of the better Western teams (Mad Dog West Elite, Team 180, Tenacity, Grit Dallas etc) can make more trips out East and have some success so that they might change the perception a little about Western lacrosse, and also get them an occasional invite to play against the M&D Black/Hero's/YJ/Monster (ie top 10) caliber teams. Right now it seems the best we typically gain access to is the top 10-20 teams, which is still awesome and significantly better than what we routinely see west of the Mississippi. The problem is that historically, other than the handful of Western teams mentioned above, there is not much depth, so typically when an average Western team comes out it either gets smoked or is placed in a very weak bracket.

At this point, I believe you will rarely, if ever see all the "Dream Teams" in the same pool. Most of the tournaments at 2024 and older are a "showcase" structure with the pools looking like they were seeding for a playoff bracket, except there isn't any playoffs. Therefore, you'll see one or two higher caliber teams in a pool with substantially weaker teams. I believe much of it has to do with politics and money. You cant have Super AAA Club beating Rockstar AAA club and then losing to Jedi Masters AAA - it's bad for business for all of them so the clubs don't want to risk the loss. They'd rather play weaker teams, go 3-0 and claim they're the best without ever having to put their money where their mouth is. At least, that is my opinion on what the girls lacrosse landscape looks like.

As for the teams you played - MDU, Legacy, MDred were the good teams. Not sure about the others enough to say anything. Teams by year can really vary at these clubs. But to go 6-0 is excellent! Im just asking, but you had more than one or two girls score all of the goals right? Because that can happen in lacrosse - you can have one girl take care of most of the scoring and its crummy. She leaves for greener pastures in grade 7 or 8 and the team deflates.

Also Ive noticed- my daughter is older- that girls that dont make the A team dont accept the B team, they go to another club (if possible and not geographically undesirable- i.e. traffic, rush hour) to get on their A team.
As for playing style, the West teams are built around a few good scorers and the rest it can be up in the air, skills wise, but still very athletic. Playing basketball is an excellent segway to lacrosse! More than soccer! Ive got all three sport in my girl and I love BB the best.

When weve played at national tounaments (where we had to leave MD) the faraway teams all had a few great goal scorers but we always capitalized on unforced errors and rookie mistakes. I see it a lot when I look at film too. Its always a good idea to have a good film against good competition.
Faraway girls are also more hungry to suceed. My daughter has been playing since Kindergarten and shes a little tired of it to be honest.
You should check out SDSU. A lot of girls from Baltimore were going out there to play for a few years, they may have some girls who would love the extra money coaching a bit.

We were also there and the competition was tough . Skywalkers, Top Guns, Capitol and Monster. Capital and Top Guns had some impressive finishers. . They are heading in the right direction. Always nice to play competitive teams. Look forward to mid atlantic.

Got to see team 180 play at Mid Atlantic. They played Lakeshore a s really good players on both teams. Team 180 24 scheduled games with Md United and both M&D teams. Great experience for the girls. They too have some really good athletes that could play on top clubs in the East.

Is LI Top Guns Black their A or B team? Same question for Hero’s Green and Capital Blue. Also who is Cav Lax? They looked very good.

As a point of reference, the top teams based on summer and fall results would be M&D Black, Monster, NEMS, Hero's Green, CT Griz Navy, Sky Walkers Blue, Team 180, Capital...Yellow Jackets Wiener is in the mix, but was not able to play anyone in 2020

TG Black looked very good at The Chesapeake. Their team put up points, but like many of the Long Island teams it was 2-3 girls doing the scoring. What happened to that team at The Mid-Atlantic? They looked like 2 different teams. Looked like TG 24 team from the past couple of years They couldn't get anything going on offense or stop anything on defense. Seemed like a different coach at Mid ? We definitely heard coach at Chesapeake.

new players to their rosters. The kids never ever played with each other before. That's why you saw 2-3 players scoring all the goals. Those kids were knew to their team or teams. Let's see how it pans out in the summer. Who knows? They may surprise you. Good luck to all!

Anyone know of good showcases to attend that are coming up? I know I may be late, but I am trying to find a good, local showcase for my daughter to get the experience and exposure as well. Thank you.

UA and 180? What does that really mean? No disrespect to the hard-working players, but 180 players yes? it's a softer group all around than in the last. What's with the the 2024 girls teams and players? Is it only YJ and the 2025 teams that play lacrosse? I haven't seen nor heard one thing about the 2024 class. Is it that there are no decent teams or players that play lacrosse in that grade? Are there ANY up and coming teams or players look forward to seeing?

My daughter is a 2024 and we play for a smaller club and is one of the best on her team. People keep telling us that if she wants to play in college we should move clubs. What 2024 team is strong at this age group?

Others may laugh at this, but you should give Team 91 2024 Crossfire a look. The former 2021 coach just took over that squad in the fall and I don't know that any coach puts in more effort on behalf of each and every player. She's a great role model and great motivator, and is transforming the culture of that particular team (no comment on the rest of the 91 girls program). My daughter doesn't play for them, but trains with the current coach, and she's already getting great recruiting advice. If you try to move to one of the top teams at this point, your daughter might get buried on the bench or sent to a "B" team. Not sure how that helps her. So again, I'm recommending the team because of the coach and the support your daughter will get from her, not because of where the team sits in the pecking order of Long Island lacrosse.

Will your daughter try out for Under Armour or American Select? If she tries out for both, and makes both teams, which one will you select?

Second this. My daughter tried out for this team in August but didn’t make it. We were looking to leave our team after playing hers and seeing that she gave feedback to each kid when they left the field and my husband and I were impressed. Sadly my daughter didn’t make the team but even after the fact was send a list of drills and a paragraph of feedback from the coach. She even went as far as to reach out to her in social media to see how her fall went. I’m trying to get her in to do private lessons because at this age all I want is her to have a good role model. If she had made the team I would have not hesitated to move her from her current team (which has four teams for the 24 class) We plan to try out again next year and hope for different results.


Any other teams parents recommend if she doesn’t make this team again?

I second the reply about 91 2024 Crossfire. I saw the coach already posted but did not attach it to your original reply so you may need to scroll down to find it. This past summer my daughters club team played played the crossfire team and lost after the coach clearly told her players to stop scoring. The parents on the sideline said it was her first game with them which was alarming to me in the best of ways. She spent the entire game coaching with no play off. My daughter came off the field and asked me if she could try out because the coach gave every kid who came off the field feedback. Unfortunately my daughter did not make the team after going to a tryout. The coach did not simply post numbers of kids who made it but rather reached out to us, and I assume every other family, individually. Coach Sam sent us a drill list that paralleled her feedback for my daughter. When I tell you I was taken away by her professionalism and care for my daughter.... My daughter has played another fall with her club team which as the other reply mentioned has four teams for the 2024 grad year. We are just as upset to have not made the team as we were this August, but she plans to try again this summer.

I'd also look into some of those teams labeled as "elite." They often have way over two lines for positions and will make as many teams as they can collect a check for. These teams will bench weaker players, so if your kid isn't the best on one of those teams she won't really get any looks.

Any suggestions for private trainers?

The top guns page is flooded with comments about the program falling apart because of the Smiths - mostly andrew and his recent DUI- are there top guns parents here looking to switch teams? Where do you plan to go? Do any teams even need kids at this point? Will coaches be willing to cut kids to make room for any of the 24 black players? Sorry for so many questions but Im feeling fairly concerned for my daughters future

Seriously, no offense but are you new to this site? Top Guns and Yellow Jackets have been falling apart for years according to posters here. Reality is quite different.

You must be blind to the fact that who we surround our kids with is important...if you're ok with creepy men with a bad rep coaching your kids thats fine. Kids have also been leaving a few programs like crazy over the last year, one of the reasons Shannon took over our team to begin with.

Agree with this...it's a Laxxshow recently only thing worse seems to be elevate from talking to family friends. Half their teams bailed last year and moved to other teams.

Totally agreed on this. We left the program last year and have never been happier. Everyone talks so much trash about each of these orgs but in reality some of these clubs have coaches and directors who will go above and beyond for their kids. I'm glad I found one of those teams finally after my older daughter had a bad experience at another club.

You must be blind! Half the dads on the teams my kids have played on over the years drink beer all day at the tournaments, then drive their kid home. And if you think it’s any different when your kid plays in college you’re going to be in shock to find how much drinking is done by the parents groups. It’s not your job to police what others do. Worry about yourself and your own kid! I’m also not sure what you mean about kids leaving programs like crazy. My daughter plays on a top TG team. We are very happy and none of the starters are leaving. I think people are trying to stir the pot maybe because their daughter is not getting played enough?

Don’t go to Legacy or YJs team has well over two lines unless you do YJ d team. Legacythrowing 24s onto 25 and 23 teams to keep them around for next year in case anyone bails. Great players but organizations are such a money scam. Where does your kid play now?

Top trainers and/or coaches for the 2024 class? High school or club welcome. Looking for a new team and new private trainer for my daughter.

My daughter has worked with Mike Kaplan Laxon and Coach Tilts (all can easily be found on instagram) She did a group training with laxon in Nassau and said that she was expecting it to be harder but it was still fun. She felt Mike Kaplan was unsafe because there were dozens of unmasked players with two trainers more concerned with social media and making kids like them then a workout. She liked Tilts for privates and also did a small group session with her. Only struggle is that Tilts and Laxons slots go very quick. Kaplan doesn’t seem to cap his so I think he will squeeze as many as he can in. Kaplan doesn’t train lacrosse just workouts, Laxon only has a few teams, and I am not sure which club Tilts works for.

Also not a fan of Kaplan Mediocre fitness class at best.

I sent my kid to the Friday lax factory at Kaplan and it was a joke and just another stunt to put more money in pockets

Just going to give some advice to parents on here from having two older daughters who got college scholarships

If your kid is playing for rush, recon, or shore 2 shore girls I’d suggest getting a refund and finding a new team for the summer and going forward. Your kid has zero hope being seen playing for these teams. Unfortunately, 2024 elevate is going down too. A bunch of girls left last year, and I’m waiting for the rest to bail soon. Program used to be great, but is quickly falling apart.

I’d love to hear about which teams your daughters play for and your opinion of your team so that we can all figure out where we should be placing our kids.

My kid plays for legacy but we already have too many kids so please find a spot elsewhere

We play for 91. I’ll be the first to admit that a year ago with the old coach it was an absolute bust. Since getting a new coach the team has been ridiculously positive even with a coach who expects a lot. We do non lax stuff together, our coach worked for free an extra day every week and gave up three Friday nights to have scrimmages she set up and ran without any compensation. The girls are all outside working out 5+ days a week and have easily become better than they have been in years. The coaches held recruiting zooms already and colleges are already calling our coaches based on what they’ve seen on social media and in kids film. We had a few girls leave last year to go to other teams they thought would be better who now ride the bench w it [ChillLaxin] insanely high roster numbers. We had 20+ girls try out between august and now and have kept our roster at 18. Our coach chose to not take kids and keep our roster small rather than collecting more money for the program just to fill a bigger team. I was skeptical about staying after last year, but having her come in has completely changed our experience. Our daughter told us that she has no interest in playing for any other coach and that she plans to continue to work to be the best so she can stay as a player on the team. I can’t say that the rest of the program is run this way because I don’t have kids on other teams but this group of girls and coaches have blown our family away. If your kid is a midfielder, don’t let her try out because my daughter may kill me if she knows I brought competition over her spot into the mix.

We left this team a few years ago when the old cosch said she was probably moving teams. I’m still close to some of the mothers on this team and they rave about what the new coaches have done for the girls. I’d be lying if I I said there weren’t moments I question my choice to move my daughter.

Who was the old coach?

My daughter plays for rush and this fall was a little better than last summer. My daughter tried out for other teams, including 91 and legacy, but didn’t make it. She’s a good player, but I guess isn’t getting the coaching she needs to be good enough to make a better team. Vicious cycle

My daughter played for one of the above mentioned teams for a few years. We loved what they stood for (big on community service) and at the time, they fit our needs (local tournaments). One of the downsides of being on that team was that some of the players (or it could have been a result of the parents being busy, etc.) didn't make the same time commitment to being at practices. My daughter would often get in the car and tell me how few girls were there. That had an impact on her morale and it showed in the teams' performance on the field. My daughter's interest in lacrosse had changed from what it was 3 years prior, so we decided it might be worth looking into other teams.

This past summer our daughter decided to try out for another team that she had played, and lost to, in tournaments. She made the team and so far we've been very happy with how things have progressed for her. She's upbeat when returning from practices and that says a lot to me. We'll see how it goes this Spring/Summer with the tournaments.

How are the YJ and TG teams at this age? Have they played each other? Is there a big difference between the top clubs at this age and the mid range clubs?

YJ A team is good, but again too many players. Other teams are decent, but again 26 kids on a roster if you look at their website. Supposedly after the 23 class TG isn’t all that great. A lot of switching of coaching between 24 black and purple and really bad role models.

The only real gap between teams is YJ Wiener. The other YJ top guns teams are good, but nothing spectacular. Top Guns black is currently ranked below YJ Wiener, YJ Ramos, Legacy, 91 Crossfire, and Elevate Blue. The TG team for the 24 year is not a powerhouse. Considering that elevate and 91 are typically labeled as "mid range" and are competing at a higher level than TG, I'd say that the gap is not really there.

It may just be an opinion, but from my experience I can explain why. These clubs are smaller and get less attention. Since their teams are not highly skilled, they get placed into very low brackets and don't get invited to tournaments such as nationals this summer which I know Legacy has enrolled in and 91 and YJ were invited to. Coaches have less personal connections to these teams because they don't have as many high level older players who have built relationships over the past few years. Let's take rush for example, they don't have a 22 or 23 team (that I know of) so when it comes time for the 24s the club has been completely off the radar for two years. If they were doing something to combat this, a coach heavily involved with recruiting and in contact with multiple coaches often, a coach who played for a high level school with friends who are coaches etc it would help slightly.

These teams also bring in kids who are less committed, as mentioned above. If you look at social media on other teams, you'll notice they are at solo and team trainings constantly with almost 100% attendance. Some may argue that YJ and Legacy have high numbers on their 24 rosters because of money, but it can also be said it could be to have numbers in the case that kids aren't showing up. Ideally, you'd want your daughter on a team that has extremely committed players who show up to everything and are in communication with players and parents frequently. These are the teams that will not only elevate individuals games, but team culture and cohesion on the field while attracting coaches.

I agree with this. It seems that the mid range teams and higher level teams have a much smaller gap for the 24 class. it seems like some mid range teams may have passed some of the higher level teams for the first time in a long time.

I think elevate should be ranked even lower than it is, but I don't make the rules. They got absolutely smacked this summer.

I'm not one of the dads trying to ruin a young kids career. She has found a new team and has her college career ahead of her, good luck to them.

YJA is the best team in this age group. It's not close. After that YJB, Legacy, TG and Liberty are probably in the next group in some order. Hard to tell as no one has played real games in 18 months.

Also, generally the LI teams are behind the Maryland teams at this age

The real answer is that nobody knows because there wasn't a meaningful 2020 summer season and these teams rarely play each other or common opponents. Please don't tell me that the above analysis was based on the ridiculous Fall 2020 Club Lacrosse rankings.

I disagree about top guns, but liberty has a good 24 group also. I also think it is closer than many think it is. YJ didn't play a single real tournament all fall.

At this point the answer to this question is an opinion, we are each entitled to our own. I think that the top teams for 24s are probably YJ Wiener and Legacy, after that Liberty 91 and TG. I'd rank bandits, elevate, empire, rush, recon, etc underneath them all without a second thought.

Not much bad to say about flg- no crooks like Katowsi, Rose with her money hungry attitude, and Smiths with their DUIs. The flg guys are solid dudes but the program is still middle to low tier at best

In regards to FLG, so far we've been very happy with communication, training, coaching and her teammates (they've been very welcoming to her as a new player.) That's not to say we had any issues with our prior club. We liked the directors and coaches and we truly hope the best for the team and club and my daughter is still friends with a number of girls from the team.

From looking at her social media it seems she followed a team from when she was in college and they just finished with 91 when she picked up a 24 team. From listening and reading stuff on her account it seems like it’s a loyalty thing. She had a story up a few days ago, I admittedly followed her after her name popped up last week, that said she grew up in a single family
Home and didn’t start playing until spring of 9th grade. Evidently the club let her play for free and she’s stuck by them since.

My kids not a 24 but this thread has been very active so I decided to check it out. Much to my surprise you’re talking about my oldest daughters coach. Sam was her coach for many years and poured her heart into our team. In case it wasn’t made clear, she lives in brooklyn but stayed on Long Island on weekends to be there for my kid and her teammates. This girl became family. She had offers from multiple clubs and some colleges but refused to leave our team because she had some of them since they were in fifth grade. She stayed with them from 5th grade and worked with them through gal of their senior year. The easiest answer to this question is one word: loyalty.

I think that most clubs have really questionable owners. 91 has a pretty solid group of guys running it. Maybe she just doesn’t want to deal with craziness elsewhere.

They have a girls team for every year and the teams are pretty good. 22 A team is strong as is the 24 team. Brian Spallinas daughter age group has like 3 teams.

They've always been around, over the past few years have rly picked up again.

The people who own 91 also now own bandits, empire, etc rumors they’re about to buy elevate too

They did have a decent ‘23 who folded and are now YJ B and C team players. The coach of that team also went to YJ and cozz as he’s YJ ‘24. One of the 91 owners wouldn’t even let his own ‘25 daughter play for 91 girls. He is a YJ coach. 91 is just not a good girls program.

Completely disagree. The 91 girls side is strong, it’s just parents and owners of other clubs saying anyone but YJ isn’t strong. My kid doesn’t even play for them. It’s just a cycle of dads bashing other programs so other players think there’s only one good team to play on.

But 91 isn't one of them. The better girls will leave by 6-7th grade. 91 teams can't play in high brackets...would get beatdown/destroyed. I think they are too scared to even travel to MD. Not good for recruiting.

The 91 2024 coach is excellent and so are the girls. However, you are still dealing with 91. As an organization, unless you have a director/owner as your coach, you're just a cash cow to be milked for all you're worth. The girl's side is the epitome of this. They do not go to any of the better tournaments and are stuck going to 91/MyLacrosseTournaments which no other top tier organization goes to.

The other fact which many do not know is the way the top tier girls tournaments operate - you can't just enter a team in them. You have to have attended the year prior. If your team didn't, you're put on the standby list until a spot opens. If a spot doesn't open, you can't enter. The setup favors established organizations. In the event that 91 builds an excellent team on a certain grad year, they still won't be able to get into the top tier tournaments. I know this because my daughter does *not* play for YJ and I've been told about the struggle our program went through to be able to participate - it took years.

Coaches attend various tournaments. All of these teams other than yellow jackets who aren’t in those tournaments or just got in have done just fine with recruiting without them. I think that the Long Island lacrosse world has been brainwashed into thinking that smaller clubs won’t do anything for your kid. The truth of the matter is it has nothing to do with what jersey you’re wearing but rather how skilled you as an individual are as well as how hard your coach will work and support you.

My kid doesn’t play for 91, but we get nickle and dimed for every tournament and expense. At least they’re expensive but all inclusive. You know what you’re paying for the whole year, just like flg. Yellow jackets screws you by asking for money for every little thing and you end up paying just as much if not more.

The whole you need to be YJ to be recruited charade needs to stop eventually. Maybe we can be the first group of parents to stop marketing it that way.

This comment is truly the epitome of the issue with this site and Long Island lacrosse. The girls aren’t scared... you act like anyone who isn’t YJ is petrified to lose a game. There are dozens of great tournaments and showcases not in Maryland. What world are you in.

Here’s some insight on Legacy - Levy’s 24 Legacy team is legit. Teaches the game, expands girls’ thinking and competes with anyone. They have some real talent at each position, but really play as a group. Judging a team/coach by social media may be useful, but probably not the best way to find out about your options.

I live in a world called being realistic. If your daughter has the talent and wants to play lacrosse at a high level in college, it's not going to happen playing for a team like 91. Another poster explained why 91 and other lower-tier teams can not get into the top recruiting tournaments. If she's just playing for fun, then that's a different story, and 91 might be fine if you don't mind spending $$ with basically no shot at a top school. My older daughter actually played for 91 when she was younger, but then we switched to YJ after I realized she was going nowhere quick on 91. YJ definitely has its issues, but things worked out. The only clubs on LI that have a track record of producing high-level D1 players are TG and YJ (maybe Legacy), and they both have their pros and cons. I would strongly suggest that you think hard about that and then pick the club where your daughter will actually get meaningful playing time, feels valued, and shows improvement. I think 91 is fine for an inexperienced beginner in grades 1-5, for a season or two, after that, if you don't make a move, you're crazy!

I think that you’re probably just someone trying to get the best kids to your daughters team by pretending that other programs are less than. Yellow jackets teams at this age are not nearly as good as they once were. They also offer zero recruiting help. This is all a ploy to try and deter families from other clubs.

If you play as one of the clubs that isn’t top guns or legacy, I can assure you from 20 years coaching highschool and club that this is obnoxious dad politics. Flg 91 legacy etc are all just fine. Let your daughter play and enjoy the sport while still having access to play at any school that fits her for her level

Jesters hasn’t been brought up on here much. A lot of talk about their a team but we played them and wrecked them. They aren’t very good at all. I was surprised, we expected them to be real competition.

This is a fact. Jesters thinks they’ve become some hot topic but in reality it’s just a bunch of mediocre kids from a bunch of teams that were falling apart. They have zero team chemistry. Coaches don’t seem to rly care to put in the extra time to make them better.

Was going to mention Jesters along with Legacy as an alternative to YJ/TG. I've been hearing good things about them. They just need to gt into top tournaments. If you are not at the top recruiting tournaments, there is little to no chance to get recruited to a top 20 program. These 91 cheerleaders will smarten up eventually and realize it's a money grab with zero return. 91 girls have been around for a while. How many girls did they get recruited to top programs? I bet the answer is none.

You do realize that 91 24 team tied the jesters black team this fall with only one sub ? I’m not even part of the program but my daughter plays for empire who was also at the tournament and we watched the game. I think the fact that you’re ragging on programs is crazy.

You’re also missing the fact that coaches from some of these teams do huge damage on kids with how they treat them at a young age. I think the negativity over bashing programs you think aren’t as elite as yours is just as bad as bad as others coming at your program for being a scam, having nasty coaches, having coaches hung over and vomiting on the sidelines, having coaches kids on a teams when they clearly don’t deserve to be there, and having someone like carol leading you. You also completely leave out that YJ is collecting more money constantly from you. They also had everyone scrimmaging one another during covid so they don’t have to refund anyone. This whole mentality of YJ parents bashing everyone else needs to stop. You are not as great as you think you are, other clubs have coaches just as good if not better, and other clubs also are able to get kids recruited. Stop putting down every other club because you have a superiority complex.

We play on jesters black and Spallina was in the sideline telling parents how great the 91 team and jesters looked. Both teams are a threat, stop bashing them.

Regardless of any scores, these two teams should be regarded as stronger teams. They are not nearly on the same level as flg, rush, recon, bandits, empire, etc. They are definitively in the top five alongside YJ, Top Guns, Legacy.

Easy Coach. We all know YJ is a scam. It's just a different scam than 91. Both are scams. One has garbage coaching and barely practices but has good contacts and good tournaments, the other has good coaching and garbage contacts and tournaments. Both charge too much and give too little. If you look at my reply and actually read you’ll see my daughter plays for empire. I’m heated because going after mid tier clubs just keeps Long Island lacrosse in the same place it’s been for years and that effects my kid. I’m not saying any club is perfect, but at some point everyone needs to realize none of these clubs walk on water but can still get your kids to where they want to be.

We’re considering moving clubs next year. I’ve heard mixed things about FlG and elevate, but regardless it’s where we’ve been looking. Any thoughts on these programs?

What tournaments are 24s attending this summer ?

Many will disagree but I don’t personally think there are that many elite tournaments. Some posters on this thread said Maryland tournaments are the “good” tournaments, but there are plenty of tournaments that attract coaches. Considering covid, I doubt there will be many coaches at tournaments for a while and they will rely on film and live streams of full games which likely have a playback option.

Bingo. Look at 22 class about 25% of each club's grade level got recruited within the 1st 6 weeks to top schools. The rest will come later... some to top schools some to lower level athletic schools and a good percentage not at all. The top club on LI has over 100 22's with about 25 commits.

My daughter is now at a top d1 college, so this probably isn’t the thread to drop this on but oh well. We left 91 to go elsewhere and then ended up coming back after realizing the grass is not greener. After coming back to 91, she got an offer to play top d1. The team she had switched to was run by crazies and we regretted the year we spent away from the program. I’m not saying the program doesn’t have its faults, it does as all programs do. Only reason I am on this thread is because I was swayed to leave by others on BOTC years ago and the advice I took off this site was so wrong. Dont take everything you see on here to heart, everyone has anterior motives. Just like this parent said before me, there are kids everywhere that aren’t the best. Truth is, if your kid is talented and happy with their team leave them and let their skills speak for themself.

Our experience with FLG is limited being that my daughter only started playing with them this September, coupled with the pandemic (which impacts parent & coach interaction), but we've been very happy with what we've seen thus far. Her teammates are positive and committed to being at practices, scrimmages, and tournaments. We have twenty girls total and only one 2024 team and they can all catch a ball.

They have one strong midfielder, that’s it. Kids are decent players, but nothing special. They’d get killed by YJ.

They have some lower tier kids who moved over to them this year. Some recon, rush, elevate, etc.

I admittedly booked a session with Tilts after seeing the original post about her, and I was not disappointed. My daughter said that she was the perfect mix of fun and hard. She even sent us a spreadsheet of the private plan and it was linked to videos of each drill. I know there are some controversies on her over mid tier and higher teams but she really was fantastic. Coming from another program and having zero experience with her previously we were impressed.

Rush coaches are really nice

This happens at nearly every age group for YJ A teams where a coach has a kid on their own team. Usually the first couple years the coaches kid is one of the better ones on the roster, a couple years in and they are hanging on and by the end they are still on the team because how can the coach and director put the kid on the B team? And they usually have a few town friends along for the ride. These coaches will always be blind to it, thinking the kid is one of the best on the team.

This is 100% correct for almost all age groups...town team becomes the YJ A made up mostly of one town with a dad coach. it works for them i guess but it does get people crazy after awhile

YJ every team has more than two lines except O'Sullivan and those girls stink. If you have your kid in YJ and they are on the lower teams good luck. Carol will tell you herself she won't put them in the same tournaments as her better teams, so why bother being on a cruddy team that won't even get the only YJ benefit THE NAME. Legacy has too many kids on their team and to fill their 23 teams and collect a check they added girls who should not be on our 23 team join to collect a check and add numbers. Not sure about how many kids top guns have, but rumor has it that even the black team stinks and lost most fall games. Rush is barely keeping afloat, Recon is not strong, FLG is fine but lacks talent. Elevate has been loosing their best girls over the past two years because they collected a check and refused to give it back when they didn't do anything all of covid except scrimmages against themselves (just like YJ) which costs the club NOTHING.

Good luck at this age switching teams. If a coach wants you from another team, jump ship before you lose the offer.

TG 2024 Black was 2-2-2 in fall games, with the losses by 1 goal and 2 goals. I guess that stinks?

O’Sullivan is weak. There’s no if’s, ands, or buts. Just accept that your kid is on a D team that is going to be forgotten as colleges focus on your higher teams before moving down to you. No shot at a top school on a D team for a club that has 75 kids ranked higher than them in your own club.

Hmmm...did you forget about COVID?? Last fall was not a reliable indicator of anything. Many families were affected and girls were unable to play. Was it a scam when a kid couldn’t attend because their family member died? What a piece of work you are!

What happened to the empire kids at this age group? Older empire girls are decent, but the 2024s seem to have crashed and burned. The b team got beat all fall by like ten goals a game and the A team lost to all other Long Island teams they played. Is there a difference in coaching? What happened to the age group? Anyone whose a part of this club would love insight as I had originally considered moving my kid to empire.

We don’t play for empire but can also say that they look weaker at this age group than the older girls did as freshman. I’m sure it’s just a learning curve of some sort but definitely odd to see

The 2023 probably the strongest in the program but they lost to YJ 25 and Elevate.
I believe the 24 team was a merger with Bengals. not sure what happen to them but the goalie went to YJ Kildare. maybe a few others followed her

The 21 abs 23 teams looked pretty good. Agreed that the Bengals team isn't looking all that great as of late.

if you are a talented 23' or 24' you can possibly find a spot on YJ kildare 24 or Rella 23. I would think the top 5 kids on those Empire teams could make a YJ B team. very hard yet not impossible to find a spot on the top teams, but I am sure you would have a known name already going into the tryout

Rella's team is a mediocre B team you should be able to make that team.

Why are you all sending your kids to trainers from programs other than your own? You don’t have confidence in your own programs coaches?

Rella is the best B team around.
They beat MD’s top 2 B teams M&D Red and Hero’s White.
Only 2 teams locally that they have no shot against is Thorn and TG black.
Rella would smoke any B team on island plus they would beat the quasi A teams at clubs like Elevate and Empire
The top players on Rella are studs on most A teams

A fall league is all about who shows up. like a men’s hockey league.
Again nobody saying they are great, but they are a solid team and a very good B team. If you are a top player on LI you aren’t on Rella. The top players are on Thorn, TG and a few scattered around on Legacy and New Jesters from TG.

The yellow jacket B team is consistently the best B team on long island and one of the strongest in the country. colleges coaches have known it for long time. look at girls like Kylie Oh. YJ B - not bad.

Not true. The event gives them major access to college coaches. Any college coach will tell you that being picked for things like under armour and brine are huge

Great event. It’s 300 spots with 150 2023 and 150 2024. The kids chosen are based off of highlight film. Each player submits film, their recruiting profile, fills out a whole application, and they need a letter of recommendation. They evaluators aren’t club coaches or parents, so if your kid didn’t get picked it’s because their talent wasn’t something evaluators thought was above other players. There are a lot of kids who apply for a reason.

These events are great. Considering they aren’t run by our local club directors it is actually a fair shot for kids. I’d say money grabs are those events run by clubs that favor their own club. If there is no favoritism, I for one think it’s a great event.

From what I’ve heard from my daughter a few YJ kids, a legacy kid, and two 91 kids.

stick to camps .... the college coaches didn't happen last year just more video tape will be same this year and so many people didn't wind up going.

I would agree from my older daughters experience that this is a great event and certainly not just about money.

Camps are important but so are these types of teams. These teams select the best players and when college coaches look at players these teams will be shown. Not to mention they will get the film, live stream, or in person viewing of them. I have two older kids who went through recruiting and it’s still about camps and these select teams.

Any top guns kids? Jesters ? Elevate ? Congrats to all the kids that made it. Being 150 out of 1500 is no small feat

its not the best of the best - they do try to spread out the girls from different areas... also its less competitive to get in the 24s than it is the 23s, because the 23s have played a year in the recruiting age and now they know they need to bulk up their accolades.

The 2024 class has some athletes who could beat out a lot of 2023 kids to be completely honest. I think the girls from Long Island who made it are crazy talented. Look at the film from the YJ, 91, and legacy kid that made it. They are obviously skilled.

It is too early to know if college coaches will be able to attend tournaments and events this summer, but these kids will play against other top players which is what you want. Even if it ends up being live-streamed, you will still get great film. Camps are not a sure thing this summer and remember nothing in youth sports is free, camps or showcases.

Mom** and my daughter didn’t even make the UA team. I know from who she showed me did that it is a strong group. Just gave her something to work towards for next year. Just because she wasn’t in the top 150 of the players doesn’t mean it isn’t a great opportunity.

My youngest daughter didn’t get in, my older daughter was in the event last year. I just know from my experience this was not the case. Her college coach found her from this event and now she’s at school paying almost nothing for tuition. I just don’t want other parents to think it’s a complete waste of time because a harsh critic didn’t like it.

Been at this many years and you do see the strength of the these different events, strengthen and weaken through the years. This is especially true now that covid has changed so much, and hopefully changes as we go back to normal. In years past I heard Nike 120 was much better than UA 150, but Nike fell off the map. As far as the Under Armour events, the underclass games always had the very best players on the regional teams. When they introduced the UA150, most of the top players that were on the regional teams never bothered with the 150, it was always the players who did not make the underclass teams who would attend this event every year. Again with so many things odd in this covid era, maybe the better players do end up attending the 150, and even if the players are not the top players, it still offers opportunity to get seen, filmed etc...

I’ve actually looked at a bunch of girls to see what their story is and all I’ve seen so far is a bunch of clubs NOT in top 10-20. Which is fine and good for them. Not competition to lose sleep over. It’s still a good way to get film but it’s not the top! If it were the top it would be dominated by a few certain areas and Robinson doesn’t want that. He wants people from everywhere. My D did it her first eligible yr and she was only 1 of 3 in her club to even apply. The next year everyone on her team applied-why not, it’s free! I’m in Maryland.

If you aren’t on a “top 20” team (I’m assuming your going by the us club team rankings) you can still be a top player. Not every incredible athlete decides to go to the biggest name teams.

Agree that Nike is another stellar event. It’s a great opportunity for these top players regardless. I think those who are bad mouthing the event are likely parents of kids who weren’t chosen.

The fact that two of those 91 kids made it is impressive in my opinion. There hasn’t been a lot of representation from the club at events like this. I think the shift in this clubs growth this year is due to the coach takeover by Tilts. She was mentioned a few times, but my daughter finally worked with her this week and was blown away by her and how much she had never been taught before meeting with her. It was eye opening. It is true what they say about how a coach can really make a team.

I’m not sure if it was in this thread or another BOTC thread talking about this showcase but someone said that if you play for a top club you’ll make it. Elevate and 91 aren’t typically top clubs, but have some top players. I don’t personally think highly of Kotowski and the program, but it is further proof that talent isn’t just coming from one program on the Island.

Also just want to point out that those saying the selection process isn’t legit should find a coach that is advocating for them the way Tilts and a few Long Island coaches who seem to be changing the 2024 class. The amount of other parents considering leaving their current teams solely to play for this one coach is insane. I think that those girls making it was just another reason there’s been all this buzz.

Maybe just an opinion. Regardless, big congratulations are in order for all girls who made it even if parents are in here making it seem like it isn’t a victory. All of the kids representing Long Island should be celebrated.

NIKE 120 is a much better event. Coaches recommend players and it was legit. They do a better job. You really only need to do one. We passed on the UA150 last year...

She played for Quinnipiac and broke a bunch of school records and was ranked top 5 for a year & she played for and coaches for 91. According to her social media she didn’t start playing lacrosse until high school .

Sam trains my daughter whose a 24 on another team. After this year, we are highly considering trying out for 91 only if she’s our coach. She is a teacher in Brooklyn and a really great role model for my daughter....she started coaching as a freshman in college and followed her teams through high school. Very loyal coach and person and my daughter LOVES her. If we don’t train with her every week my daughter is completely bummed. Great person.

Agree and would add that back when kids were committing in the 9th grade many of the top players didn't have to go to this type of event (some still chose to attend). It is not like being selected to the Under Armour Senior Game and it is different from earning a spot on a UA Underclass Team but I think if you are trying to get recruited / committed it is probably worth doing if you can get selected. If your daughter is not a Top 50 type of player you have to find ways to get coaches to see her and actually look at her. Don't let the naysayers and the haters influence you, if you listen to them you will not do anything. If your daughter does get selected be sure have her let the entire coach staff at the schools she is interested in know that your will be competing at the event. Coaches want players who want to attend their school and play for their program.

The fact that two of those 91 kids made it is impressive in my opinion. There hasn’t been a lot of representation from the club at events like this. I think the shift in this clubs growth this year is due to the coach takeover by Tilts. She was mentioned a few times, but my daughter finally worked with her this week and was blown away by her and how much she had never been taught before meeting with her. It was eye opening. It is true what they say about how a coach can really make a team.

I’m not sure if it was in this thread or another BOTC thread talking about this showcase but someone said that if you play for a top club you’ll make it. Elevate and 91 aren’t typically top clubs, but have some top players. I don’t personally think highly of Kotowski and the program, but it is further proof that talent isn’t just coming from one program on the Island.

Also just want to point out that those saying the selection process isn’t legit should find a coach that is advocating for them the way Tilts and a few Long Island coaches who seem to be changing the 2024 class. The amount of other parents considering leaving their current teams solely to play for this one coach is insane. I think that those girls making it was just another reason there’s been all this buzz.

If you play for a big team in a hotbed area, you should be doing all of the big HS (age) tournaments. Coaches can see you there. Or your wellness/ athletics Insta account!

Except those “solid middle of the road” players who left, are better or just as good as girls that are on what I am assuming you are referring to the YJA team. You do know they have been beaten by other LI 2023 teams. The top girls on Jesters, Legacy, and TG would also be the top girls on YJ. Now, I do agree with you that if all those girls were on the same team, it would be pretty special. That is unless a daddy coach incapable of unbiased coaching gets involved.

Truer words have never been spoken on this board. Coach Tilts is excellent. 91, on the girl's side, not so much. Hopefully, Coach Tilts will eventually end up at a club that is actually invested in their girl's program. No girls "director" or coach ever stays at 91 for long.

She’s been there for nine years and played for them I don’t think she’s going anywhere. The girl was offered two other club jobs and a college job and still chose 91. The girls side is doing much better and I’d imagine her loyalty would only stretch so far if they weren’t working with her in a way she appreciated.

I have spoken to a lot of other parents who plan to send their kids to 91 tryouts. Any parents on here who have kids on this team that can tell me our likelihood of making the team?

Not sure how you expect anybody to answer this about your anonymous daughter - unless you're looking for feedback on how loyal they are to returning girls or if they know of any girls who aren't returning and will therefore leave open spots.

Very fair. I guess I don’t know what exactly I’m asking but I’ll try and rephrase. I think I’m more so asking how picky the coach is with who they bring in? Like is he/she willing to see new players or are they completely closed off from giving other kids a chance? Do they have more than one team for the age group? Do the girls plan to all return?

Coach is extremely loyal to the kids and the kids are equally as loyal to her. Many parents have spoken to one another and will play anywhere our coach is. She has made it clear that kids who try our get a fair shot because nothing in life in handed to us and she reiterates it to the kids that sports teams are another “life lesson” as she calls them. I don’t think there is a clear cut answering without knowing your daughters skill level, but again she is fair but also know that our kids don’t plan to take their foot off the gas pedal. We love the program and hope kids try out. If they are skilled they deserve a chance.

Coach refuses to leave the kids under any circumstances and is respected by the program. My intel on this team is that these kids have no interest in leaving no matter how hard other teams push to poach their top kids. The program will add as many teams as they are able to based on what I see at younger grade levels.

Only one team at this age group. There are also no teams at all at either the 2023 or 2025 level so they can't combine grades to make combo teams or anything. Possible they would just expand the roster or maybe some girls will leave (although obviously from this thread the parents seem very committed).

91 bought the bandits so they will have a 23 and 25 team as well as 3 2024 teams.

Are any of the Brookhaven Bandit teams competitive that they bring over?? Who do you compare the 23 team to locally? My guess is they would be like a YJ C team, but I honestly don't know who they are and who they have played?

Do they really plan to merge them? That will be very difficult. I thought at least short term each was going to continue operating seperately with their own brands, tryouts, etc.

9D1 had one of the best 25 teams locally and nationally a few years back, but a few of their best players got poached by yellow jackets and the team fell apart and no longer exists.

Tilts sound talented so I expect the same will happen because the organization doesn’t care about girls lacrosse and is a disservice to her players.

Also, let’s be clear and with all due respect to her efforts but her team would lose to theYJB team by 10.

91 is “investing” on the girls side. The girls for last 2 years have same exact winter academy as the boys. They have a few competitive grades and if they keep at it will only get better. Not everyone wants to play for YJ

91 never had a competitive 2025 team. That was YJ Spallina and 91 2025 wasn’t in the same ballpark. Not even YJ B.

I also detest the whole poaching concept, if the league and the coach are offering an environment where the kids are growing and developing, no one leaves. Case and point, Tilts. All other examples are parents who have FOMO and jump ship. New coaches see that from a mile away, especially if you’ve done that more that once. It’s usually the parents who thinks Suzie is better than she is.

I don’t think any of these kids are leaving from what I’ve heard about this coach and changes to the program. contrary to popular belief, this team does have talent and the top players are clearly happy. Like the previous comment says, kids who jump ship at this point probably think the grass is greener and will surely be in for a rude awakening. Kudos to 91 for supporting this coach and her kids. While my kid isn’t on this team, as a parent whose kid is not part of yellow jackets it’s nice to see support for other programs.

If I was a bandit parent I’d be jumping for joy to move to 91. It’s clearly a better established organization. This group is for 24 players, so if I was a bandits parent on her I’d jump ship from the 24 bandits mommy and daddy run team and see if 91 has any open spots before the end of summer. At the very least they’ll end up on a team with a coach who has a very good reputation and a program that will back their coaches over anyone new coming in I’d imagine

Most of these clubs are going to the same tournaments as other Long Island teams. Not sure how any club is really sending kids to “B” tournaments.

What are everyones thoughts on if you should play for the big name club or the coach that is a better fit for your kid?

This is a good question: here's my 2 cents; it depends on what you want. If you plan to end at high school/varsity then go where you will play and get good coaching. The latter is so important. That being said, if you play for a bad team sometimes you will develop bad habits that don't really translate well to lacrosse. For example: ball hogging hero lacrosse. Doesn't really work as the competition gets better, but if you are the best girl on the team and the team is bad, you will be asked to do it all and play all game long. Sure you play, but bad habits develop.

Want to play college? Well, big name program helps. BUT I think it still about what you can do for yourself in showcases and camps as opposed to playing on A team or B team or C team or whatever. In the end, make sure your girl is happy. Sometimes being just part of a winning team is what will bring back the memories of having a good time when they are older. Put her on a weaker team where she plays more might be good for playing time, but if you lose all the time it's hard to break bad habits that develop both in terms of winning mentality and the habits as I mentioned above. My kids team played 91 this weekend and got crushed- no name needed as I don’t want to hurt my daughters team. I was excited to see her coach due to the threads and seeing her training everywhere recently. I was not disappointed and can confirm everything said on this thread about her. There was not a minute she wasn’t coaching. She was hard on the kids but for every fix this comment was a why behind it. It was also clear she was trying to handle herself with grace as her kids racked up points. You could see her calling more plays, asking her kids to practice different types of shots, and more. She also took the time to clap for my daughters team and even call out numbers from our roster to congratulate them on good plays. I understand that some teams may be better than hers, but after seeing what so many have said first hand I get why everyone seems to be flocking towards her even if she coaches for a program that isn’t one of notorious stature. Not sure that this post makes any difference in the grand scheme of it all but I felt like the team deserves to be recognized when it’s due

Big program gives a good name but less individual attention and care. If you find a coach who will fight for there players it is just as helpful as a big club and can be balanced out. Play where your kid is happiest at the end of it all this isn’t just about college it’s about there love for the game. If they ply somewhere they feel like another spot on a roster they could easily fall away from the sport

We played them as well and did not get destroyed, but had played them this fall when the coaching change had just been made. Compared to this fall the team looked much better. My daughter is staying put with her team because she’s been there forever and it’s comfortable for her, but I can understand why others would want to join that team after the growth they’ve had in such a short time.

Find a program that doesn't have a daddy coach and looks to develop the players not just use them as tools to pad his D's stats.

Pick either a mommy/daddy coach or some hungover college kid in flip-flops holding a coffee.

Old post but YJ O’Sullivan doesn’t get any better until better kids are added. You can be the best coach in the world but if the kids don’t care or don’t want to get better there’s only so much you can do. They have the same competition as the other 24’s. The goal is to get kids better who want to get better. If those girls who are decent on that team want to be seen in the long run, they have access to the same camps, clinics as everyone else. You don’t need to be on the best club team to be seen.

So what you’re saying is is that they should have 26-28 kids like the A-C team does and never get to play? Why not just bail on the dad coach and move off of the team? Seems there are plenty of other teams who are improving without adding on ten more kids to an already large roster.

Something odd is going on in this thread. The thread has turned into a Team 91/Coach Tilts infomercial. Then out of no where the attacks on the YJ O’Sullivan team and the Daddy coach. Seems kinda odd. Is this coach and team getting all this play cause they are in need of players. Little known fact in the fall the Coach Tilts 91 team played the YJ O’Sullivan team twice full field with refs and got crushed both times yes both times by the 4th YJ team with a Daddy coach. To make matters worse Coach Tilts even brought in a YJ player who she trains from one of the better teams to play for her on both occasions. So before you all go crazy attacking other teams and praising Coaches know what your paying for.

What I meant by “adding” is to replace players who leave the team with better players who can make the team better. Tell me how you make a team better besides coaching? The top teams are always so good because they attract the top talent. Coaches don’t have to work that hard because the kids at that level of play are doing a lot of work on their own to get better.

Definitely not saying that the team should be filled with 28-30 kids. There’s nothing wrong with being a dad coach, or a coach who is still in college. YJ O’sullivan team holds their own against competition within their bracket. As it was previously posted in this group, O’sullivan’s team beat the 91 tilts team that everyone in this group is so crazy about.

I’ll wait for all the parents who are hyping up her trainings and coaching to actually sit on the sideline and watch her coach her 91 team. Great person and she’s enthusiastic and loves kids but she pretty much only coaches the goalie. The rest of the kids have no idea where they are supposed to be otherwise. She might be a great trainer I have no idea but strictly on the field game-like, is a big weakness of hers. Do some research before you waste your money playing on that team.

Hi I’m one of the posters who complimented her and her kids a few days ago. I don’t have my daughters playing for her nor have I ever spoken to her, I was simply replying to what was already said based on what I had seen during play.

Long Island has a talented 2024 class. I wouldn’t take offense to anything being said about any team or person on here. If you look back this website has been a pool of insults for many years. Very little positive is said, and when it is someone always comes in and tries to ruin it.

How many players are on this team? Are you suggesting that in order to get better they need to replace kids? Coaches can easily work with the talent they have on that team.

If I didn’t think it could hurt my daughters name, I’d come off anonymous and share out who I was but I’d rather not risk the drama revolving around my daughter. My daughter is not a goalie but trains with Tilts. I feel the need to defend her as I have written posts on here about her.

My daughter has learned so much from this coach and it’s upsetting to see people attack her for coaching her goalies, being enthusiastic, and loving the sport. I’m sure if you were able to get game film or watch one of her training sessions you’d quickly realize that the claims in the post I’m replying to are completely inaccurate. When she trains my daughter she is nothing but supportive of her and her team and has never once mentioned anything negative about other programs or teams. If anything, she’s offered to fill the gaps for us in things we felt were missing from our current program. My daughter has found a true mentor in Coach Sam and its a shame that this community feels the need to bring down others.

My daughter is a YJ 2023 who trains with her but I’ve been following this forum as it pops up as active and I’m nosey. With all due respect, she doesn’t need to promote herself. She has plenty of players and kids she trains who clearly will do it for her because she deserves it. She’s a great girl and unlike a lot of the coaches and owners on Long Island is actually good hearted and cares about the kids. While there are plenty of people to attack for their choices in the lacrosse world she isn’t one of them.

If you don’t believe what many have said about her on here you should talk to parents on her team or parents of kids who she trains if you know any. I’m 100% positive none of us would have a single bad thing to say either on a forum or face to face.

No one is bad mouthing her. But this thread has turned in a Coach Tilts forum of training and accolades and recruitment for her team. Then the bashing of 14 year old girls and a YJ team which Coach Tilts got beat by twice by a touchdown both times. So before anyone wants to gush over her or her team and bash other teams they should know her team can’t beat the 4th YJ team.

It crazy with this stuff because there are many parents who think their daughter is a much better athlete/player than she is. They make excuses and they blame coaches, club directors, politics etc.... they think their daughter is a high level player and any time she is not recognized as such they blame it on something other than reality.

Neutral party here: I think that because this is anonymous it’s easy to accuse people of different things easily. The posts about this coach could be true. From reading back on this thread and following it it’s clear she came onto this team this fall and has made a positive impact on them and the lacrosse community. If you look at her social media, you’ll clearly see she coaches many high school and middle school level kids from multiple age groups especially the freshman class. I think it would be foolish to say that they are working with her or their isn’t some level of talent behind her coaching. Even if her team lost a game, which all of the teams have at some point, I don’t think that is a negative reflection on her as she just started with that team. Their prior coach, Guedo, had the team before her.

In terms of O’Sullivan: I’m sure the team is great with much potential. I think to place blame on who exactly is stirring the pot about the team is hard to do, again because this is all anonymous. I’m sure they have won and lost games just like 91, YJ Wiener, YJ Kildare, Top Guns, and Legacy. I don’t think that basing opinions of O Sully from of a few games is fair especially in the fall season is terribly accurate.

This thread is not meant to be used to bad mouth directors, clubs, kids, or coaches. It’s meant to support.

So for those giving coaches credit when deserved, please keep doing so. I think given the fact that this thread is constantly filled with negative conversations it’s nice to point out whose doing a good job. For those trying to hurt a young woman’s reputation or talk negatively about teams of 14&15 year olds it may be time to find a new website to post on.

I forgot that you’re not allowed to have your own opinion of a coach. Not everyone is going to agree on Tilts coaching and that’s fine, there was definitely no bad mouthing going on. As long as your kid is getting better while working with a coach, that’s what counts.

It just seems odd to me that we are ok with letting our kids play for people like Andrew Smith but are so quick to jump to negative conclusions on someone most of us have never met. I don’t know the chick but I’m sure she’s a great coach by how far her reach of players goes.

Hahahaha wait you think I would make comments without knowing her? I’ve coached with her, did trainings with her etc. if anyone actually read my post, I said absolutely nothing bad about her trainings or her for that matter. I made one critique about her GAME time coaching. That is it.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I’m so happy she’s making kids feel confident and even getting them better as athletes. She puts tons of work in and no one can take that away from her. She’s busted her butt for these kids.

There’s tons of other things we can talk about in this thread that don’t involve Tilts or YJ o’sullivan

I’ve been a parent of multiple 91 players on both the girls and boys side and know her well. If you’ve coached with her than that limits whoever you are to a 91 employee as she hasn’t worked anywhere else except with two of her friends, one of whom used to coach the 2024 team before she took it over. From knowing her the last six years I can also tell you that she never privately trains kids with anyone else. All of the private lessons she does have been solo and she’s only had two assistant coaches at 91 for as long as I’ve known her. So unless you’re one of those two young ladies she’s worked with, you’re clearly a liar. If you need any evidence that she coaches her butt of during games and has a very clear understanding of the game, sit behind her during a game or listen to game film that hasn’t had the volume removed.

If you have worked with her, I’m curious when. Was it when she was 19 and a freshman in college or recently as an adult.

My guess is you’re a coach from another club looking to ruin a growing teams reputation. This group is to discuss things 2024 related, which she and O’Sullivan are both related to. You are entitled to your own opinion but it’s clear as day that for your one critique there are numerous people stating the opposite. Whatever your hidden agenda is, I disagree with your statement.

Clearly I am bias because I know her well and know that your comment is not accurate at all, but again maybe you don’t know her as well as you think you do.

Who cares! 91 girls is and always has been a weak program despite having many excellent coaches over the years. These are just facts. No matter how good a coach is, you can't expect to be competitive when the girls have no athletic talent. Any girls that do have talent leave do to frustration.

Not tearing down kids. Stating facts. I would never shell out thousands of dollars for a weak travel program leading to a dead end. There are plenty of town/PAL teams if a kid just wants to play for fun. If your kid doesn't make and get decent playing time on a true "A" or high level "B" team, you are wasting your time and money. 91 is a C or D level program in all age groups.

There are 20 - 25 high end girls per grade each year from Long Island, these are the athletes who receive offers from the Top 10 - 15 programs. The majority of these players have several options (top college programs) and most choose to attend one those programs. Approximately 100 girls go on to play DI lacrosse at one of the many other DI programs and many more girls go on to play at DII, DIII and Club Programs. By your logic unless you are one of the very select “Top 20 -25” girls who can go play at the select 10 or so college programs you should just pack it in and not bother playing because once you go beyond those top college programs the teams talent fall off dramatically.
If you pull the parents out of it, this is the greatest thing that ever happened to female athletes from Long Island. Tremendous opportunity out there at many many schools for student athletes of all abilities ( both athletic and academic abilities).

Love this. Also the fact that lacrosse isn’t just about college. Parents who make it all college no fun have kids who burn out. Kids who aren’t Top A team players can still play D.

Actually, you are. Coach Tilts is great. No argument there. 91 girls is a sham. The problem is the organization, not the coach. You'll learn the hard way. In two years, you see I'm right. You're going to have to do all the work and spend all the money to get your daughter recruited. Then, 91 will happily post it on their Instagram account and list your daughter's commitment on their website. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Don't know if any players are moving clubs. at this point it aybe a bit late to switch clubs in terms of getting enough playing time being that had these kids on the team for quite some time. Wil the coach play your daughter over another player who has been with club for years!? Possibly, let her tryout it certainly can't hurt!!
The only thing that may come into play is if the coach or coaches hear that you are shopping other clubs MAY affect how the coach views and plays your daughter.. this doesn't apply to the majority of coaches, but I've heard one or two horror stories
Of course you have to do what's best for your daughter! I wish you and your daughter nothing but luck !!

I think it depends on the coach. Some coaches take a roster where they feel comfortable with equal playing time while others take a huge roster and bench the lesser players. It’s a conversation to have before making the move. It also is not to late to switch teams. This year is probably the last chance to switch if you’re considering it.

Anyone else notice the kids picked from the lax on showcase are the kids they train or who work with their affiliates such as crease beast? Looks like another political group of women running showcases and trainings.

The parents trying to say O’Sullivan is any good based off a few scrimmages is ridiculous. This team cannot compete at a high level. Those kids should run from their D team ranking.

I noticed this also. Questionable how they chose their all star kids.

Most of the clubs mentioned have gotten new players.. let's see what kind of difference it makes each for each team.

There is one team in particular that is definitely gotten stronger!

Weiner is currently 0-3 and Kildare is 1-2 and yes they play each other so somebody has to win.

You are exactly right. Pay to play/promote. Proof comes out in a game not just some hype videos on social media.

Hopefully they're all getting better as teams and individuals. Isn't that the goal? Everything else is just noise.

Unfortunately, I think most of us would disagree. I'm sure the kids are great, but the 24 team is less than average and the program is questionable. I've heard some very bad stuff about the coach /owner on the field and off. Anybody know what's going on over. And what colleges are going to Recruit girls there knowing coach/owner past? Not really sure what went down with him. I heard some nasty comments about his coaching, but his past? Does anyone know?

They are playing against great older competition. Did you really expect them to roll? Wiener is missing a few top players as well. Only embarrassing thing is how the two parent coaches play their daughters the whole game. Kind of like an blank to the rest of the team. Guess it’s expected from the mommy coach whose kid really shouldn’t be on the team in the first place.

I’m assuming you’re referring to top guns? Andrew Smith got a DUI. I’ve also noticed the 24 team looks very weak

In case there was any misunderstanding they were talking about Jesters coach and his club. Google the name. Not everything on the internet is true, so take it with a grain of salt. The talk around town is that the 23 is the only age that's halfway decent.
As for the teams as mentioned, above Jesters 24 is by far weakest of those mentioned above.

How do you know that? Sounds like someone was doing some serious fishing with their post. People will always find something wrong with a coach, TG, YJ, Jesters. Not a Jesters parent but the spin on this page is crazy.

The jesters 24 coaches are parents ? I do agree that the 24 teams are weak for Jesters.

So after the drama a few days ago over if Tilts was as great as people said, I went digging for game film and through their Instagram. I really disagree with the statement about game time IQ. My daughter and I watched a solid fifteen minutes of their practice that they live streamed. She has friends on the team and is considering moving and has been trying to see what it would be like. Every drill the coach set up was well explained and the reason behind each move was explicitly stated. There were multiple times she stopped kids in the drill to explain why they needed to do something differently. She seems solid, but an opinion I suppose. More importantly the girls were smiling and focus but clearly happy. That’s what matters when all is said and done, no? Nice seeing kids who are being pushed while still loving every step.
