It looks like 91MD and FCA had the best performances at the Terp Classic last weekend. Hawks lost to a Florida team, Madlax lost to a NC team. Next Level lost to the only decent team they played and tied a weak team. Crabs lost to a bad Red Hots team.

It’s Fall Ball and kids are missing or rusty, but great to see 91 and FCA fare so well.

I heard Crabs were missing a lot of players this weekend. Not sure what happened to the Hawks. Did FCA and 91 pick up some new players?

91 probably had slightly better additions but both rosters had very few changes amongst the key players.

Red Hots were ranked top 20 last year. Crabs lost fair and square. Crabs had most of their players, was surprised how they played the weaker teams of the event.

RH are up and down. 91 is improving. They lost to crabs by 1 this past spring and beat red hots by a couple. They beat team 10 this past week.

Crabs only had about 4 subs Saturday. Sunday looked like a fuller roster.

Red Hots are a different team tournament to tournament (literally different kids). The RH team that played in the Terrapin Classic was not their strongest group. Crabs only had 3 kids on the sideline on Saturday, so they were certainly missing some kids.

Millon did. A freshman making a real impact on one of the best programs in the country. Also, the freshman pole at sjc.

I think normally that is the case. But the league is down on talent. Probably more this year. In Baltimore, there will be 5-10 from Crabs and 91 alone that make varsity as freshmen this year. Some who even play for the hated red hots.

And God bless 'em. But the false equivalency in terms of education, networking and access, especially post COVID, cannot even be seriously considered. What was that I read on the news....that in the supposedly elite MoCo public schools, teachers aren't allowed to give below a 50% because it might hurt feelings and hurt the district's metrics. Yeah, fast forward 10 years from now, that will sure look genius.

By the same token, certainly not every (or even most) private schools are bastions of leadership and high academia, and lax parents (up there with water polo parents) are pretty bad for declaring their son is some kind of academic weapon because they could afford to send him to that school starting in 1st grade, when the admission rate was 70%, rather than 9th grade when it's 20%.

Tryout prep - Since these boys are freshman, talk to me about what the clubs have been doing to help the boys prep for upcoming tryouts.

If kid can play colleges will find you. As lacrosse grows, rosters will be less second tier silver spoon athletes. MIAA coaches know this that's why you are seeing kids brought in that are not part of the soft Baltimore culture. AP course is standardized class and is the same if you pay 30k or nothing for it. Kids can now take college courses starting JR year. Fact is even with growing rosters the MIAA is producing less and less then decades before. Hard to develop standing on sideline or running opponents sets just so dad can go to work happy hour and feel special!

Per the tryout prep I think you'll find that's different across the clubs. Part of the issue is how multi-sport the athletes are so you may not even be able to get your team together and where can you. We're in AA county which is really limited for indoor facilities. Literally people drive across the bay bridge for one and just a couple that I'm aware of. Good time to talk to coaches to say "hey what's my areas to get better?". If you think you're fast, time yourself in gear, running that 20, 40, 60 yards. Line up a goal in front of another goal. can you shoot where you want to? If you arne't doing as well on your own, you aren't going to suddenly look better at tryouts. My 2 cents, good luck.

My son's club (HoCo elite level last year) has done basically nothing for tryout prep. I don't think there was a huge demand for it with most kids doing extensive work with their HS teams already and playing other sports.
