That's a red herring. I don't think anybody would argue that driving 1 hour each way to practice is (sadly) not abnormal and is do-able (somehow) for most lax families.

The discussion changes when it's 1.5 or 2 or 2.5 hours each way to practice, 3x per week during the season plus a 4th 2 hour drive (4 hour round trip) to the Hoco league game. At that point, at least 1 of these is happening: the parents are (over) dedicated to the detriment of siblings etc, the kid is missing practices, OR the kid is in an academic environment way below his capability because you're not learning all that much by studying for tests in the car @ 70mph. The most likely is the second........missing practices. And that's what the debate is about, how is it a team if random kids show up once per week plus the game, missing all the other work the team has done?

C'mon now. Lying is not the answer, Madlax mom. Why not own up to facts that some former Madlax '29s' are now, for some reason, playing for other clubs 2028s? Let's ask it another way and see if you can be more truthful: How many kids from Madlax 2029 aren't returning for 7th grade season?

What does it matter? Several elite 2029 teams, if not all were impacted by the age rule changes. Some will be better and some will be worse, we just have to wait until they start playing again to know.

It isn’t plural. One kid left for NL after spring. If he made the 28’s. Good on him.

The reality is that the boys talk, both on the field and on social media. I have a 2028 and a 2029 son and these boys know who the others are. I hear my 2028 son and his friends laugh about seeing on social media (last few months) the 2028s turning 14 and the 2029s turning 13. It's really weird that holdback-enablers will tell direct untruths about any of this. There's no club team from MD in the national top 50 that doesn't have holdbacks. There's lax holdbacks all the way down to AA ball, sadly. And, playing on the "national teams", whatever you think of that, guess what, the best teams from CT, LI, CA, FL, etc all have beaucoups holdbacks....and double holdbacks, which the Circuit had to make a special rule to allow 3 double holdbacks per team.

What are the odds that ML 2029, as skilled as they are, just "had none?" LOL.

One of the saddest parts of lacrosse is the multitude of holdbacks at youth level. No matter what anyone thinks, it just isnt good for the sport or for sure in youth athletics. So wrong, but will not stop as the private schools in MD are the drivers of elite lacrosse, and they have them in droves.

It will be interesting to see what tournaments top teams go to now that USA lacrosse and NLF have set age verification. HOCO is adjusting to the new requirement and hopefully other tournaments will follow.

The reality is that many teams and programs are selling dreams of success and $$$ for college. Unfortunately some people don't stop to really EDUCATE and LEARN about the process and it potential outcomes.

You're right about the past and present, but I predict the # of holdbacks will drop by at least 1/3 now that there's no lax benefit to reclassing prior to 8th grade. Middle school-run lacrosse is pretty much a joke (not worth holding back for) and if club has gone age-based, as it appears it has, there's just no excuse to reclass early.

You can see several of the (parent-run) former 2029 lax kids IG accounts that suddenly say, "BL 2029, Crabs 2028." You know those parents aren't loving it right now. After eating an extra year of tuition for no apparent benefit.

Those kids will all be 29’s again next year but maybe without the size advantage given many seventh graders will hit puberty this year. In the meantime they go back to on age this year and are just average against their on age peers but congrats to all of those parents on footing the bill for an extra year of private school. Well done.

Not so sure about that, I think in 8th grade they will let those kids play. For same reason age verification wasn’t applied to 2028. There are 27 holdbacks on 28 rosters this year and I am betting that same logic will apply to 29’s next year

The "No player born before June 1, 2010 can participate in 2029 contests" will hold true even next year.

How many non MD teams get caught cheating every year and allowed back? How many teams get caught and don’t get punished? How many teams use the 100 mile rule just for this tournament, and then the kid is never seen again until the parents post on IG their real team?

It is easy, and age has nothing to do with it. All you have to do is schedule it during the tournament season, not during our regular season. We could easily send some teams, but that tournament isn’t worth forfeiting or even rescheduling a hoco game. Your kids need a hat and shirt as well.

All the local teams checked the kids ages, so the is not reason to doubt compliance. It turned out that all the obsession over holdbacks impacted only a handful of kids.

I know a fair # of the 2029 holdback dads (I have a 2028 and a 2029) and here's the progression:

3rd-4th grade: my son is one of the best in the country!'
5th grade: cut, dropped to AA team
6th grade: held back into 2029, oh yeah baby, one of the best in the country again!
7th grade: reclassed back into 2028 and playing A or AA ball.
9th grade (2028 next year): probably quit lacrosse.

BOTC Dad's are going to have to come up with some new material now that age verification is in place. No more excuses as to why little Bobby is running third line mid on a single A team.

So true…..only exception is when daddy is the HC and kid never lost his spot until high school. See it happen first hand. Kid ended playing lower level D3 lax but let’s all remember when he was a superstar in 3rd grade.

See: Cabell Maddux. In the meantime, the kids playing behind his kids are first team All Americans on other clubs headed to UVA, Georgetown, etc.

Makes you wonder, maybe all those Long Island Dad’s were right. Holdbacks do matter or else you wouldn’t do it I. The first place. Losing your unfair advantage. Now with a level playing field how about you show up to the World Series this year?!?!

I’m not catching up to see but sample size 3. My oldest son played in and had a great experience as well. Also just an interesting aside, True own the World Series.

91 Pride will dominate at the LWSC this year. No MD team can hang with them.

That's a bold statement considering Pride lost to the only truly elite MD team that they played last year, Annapolis Hawks. 91 LI Pride is 0-1 against Marylands best.

Yes against Marylands holdbacks they lost but to kids their own age from Maryland in the LWSC? No chance. I know Maryland goes by the motto “if you’re not cheating, you’re not trying” but Long Island doesn’t.

Come on FCA and True, handle these clowns at their B overpriced tournament in the middle of the hoco season.

And Madlax has ZERO kids having to reclass to 2028. You’re down to third… anyone else?

Oh yeah. LI lax is not known for cheating, bonehead screaming parents with Qanon tattoos, or holdback players. None of those can be seen at a S2S, 91, LIE, or Lumberjacks game. This is hilarious. By all means tell us more.

Nope. HoCo League runs March through May. Absolutely zero reason to leave during Spring, best teams in the country play right here. Hawks, Madlax, Next Level, FCA.

FYI everyone 91 lost their pride and they are now Chaos. Hopefully Chaos doesn’t quit on the season after the World Series like Venom did last season, lol.
