From what I understand from this forum and our coach’s comments, very tippy top prospects (1-20?) — kind of kids getting calls from BC MD and UNC are going to hear right away with offers. There have already been back door conversations about these players between coaches and clubs. For the rest of the kids, it’s just the start of the conversation and will involve future prospect days and camps because the coach will want to see more of the player in action.

MD? Strange you put them with the other schools you mentioned. Unless you live in MD, not a top choice. Program has been declining

The winningest program in college lacrosse history has gone exactly one season without winning a championship ……. Yes you are correct , they are in a decline.

Laughable to say that it is "strange" to put Maryland with BC and UNC.

As far as girls having to go to more prospect days or camps, IMHO the answer is yes. The Top Programs know who they want and they will make offers right away but we are talking about a small number of players (UA Senior caliber players).

The Top Programs do not cast a very big net, nor do the top recruits. We are talking about 15 to 20 schools fighting for the top 50 or so recruits, each of those schools usually picks up 2 or 3 of those Top recruits. The top programs will not offer a spot to other players if there are still players (who the coach considers elite) still on the board. The majority of those top recruits usually choose one of the top programs.

Coaches have their lists and their priorities i.e. Goalie, Draw Specialist, Lefty, Defender etc... Their lists are not just a bunch of names, they have the players ranked and they try to get the players they have ranked highest on their list. If coaches , especially if it's the head coach is talking with you daughter and is willing to meet with your daughter but is not willing to commit your daughter it is likely because the coach is trying to get players that they have ranked higher. As players commit coaches adjust their lists and sometimes want to see players compete again. It is definitely a process and things constantly change.

For the majority of girls this can be a stressful time, help her stay positive and not get down when others are committing. If she is not a top tier recruit make sure that she makes all of the the coaches at the schools that she is interested in aware of her interest. When you get outside the elite programs (the ones that just about everyone would like to go to) it is very important that the coaches know that your daughter really wants to go to the school.

I’m hard pressed to think of a women’s lacrosse player being recruited that wouldn’t take Cathy Reese’s call. If they wouldn’t, they are the fool.

In My, and my daughter's opinion, there are many better options. She would obviously take the call, but it would be nowhere near her first choice. MD is to Maryland residents what SB is to LI girls.

Not one girl at my daughter's school has ever wanted to play for Maryland. If they get their pick of college lacrosse opportunities they always go High Academic - Ivies, Duke, NW or Notre Dame - people in MD need to get out of their bubble. Cathy Reese is a great coach and the girls on the team seem like excellent kids, so good luck to them.

What about Stanford? Hopkins? Both higher than Duke and NW

Did you just compare Stony Brook University to The University of Maryland? Please get a grip on reality, there is no comparison. As for taking the call from CR, there are maybe 15 girls on The Island that the Maryland coach would consider calling.

What a bunch of BS.

"Not one girl at my daughters school has ever wanted to play for Maryland" more nonsense...

"If they get their pick of college lacrosse opportunities they always go High Academic - Ivies, Duke, NW, Notre Dame"..... Yeah, okay.

Not even sure where to begin... Lets start with this: only Princeton and Penn can be mentioned in the same breath as Northwestern, Notre Dame and Duke when we are talking lacrosse. Any given year there are maybe 5 - 9 girls total from Long Island that commit to Northwestern, Notre Dame, Duke, Princeton or Penn. I'm sure they are not all from your daughters school. The odds are that your daughters school might produce Zero players most years that are offered opportunities at the schools mentioned, maybe 1 or 2 on a good year. So, where do they all go? Very doubtful that Maryland would even offer a spot to 1 girl if any in a given year from your daughters school.

Trying to diminish The University of Maryland and or the Terrapin Lacrosse Program simply makes you look foolish.

I think some people are going to have a wake up call on September 1st. Do you hear yourselves, Do you think that it is easy to get an offer from Stanford, Hopkins, Penn, Princeton, Duke, Northwestern or Notre Dame. Transfer portal and the extra year of eligibility have made it even less likely. These schools bring in on average 8-9 players per year (most of those schools will now be replacing at least 1 incoming freshman with a Transfer), how many do they average each year from Long Island? I hope that your daughters have excellent grades and are considered to be one of the Top players on The Island because I doubt we will see more than 10 players from the Long Island Class of 23 commit to the schools listed above. They are all great schools with excellent lacrosse programs but the reality is that the majority of players will not be receiving offers from Programs / Schools of this caliber. There is a lot of opportunity for the girls, I would not be so quick to turn your nose up.

BTW, I was not trying to knock Stony Brook, I just do not believe that there is a lot to compare between the two Universities.

LOL... curious to hear what MD residents think. We are from the south and would probably consider Stony Brook the better academic option for the sciences and health

Why are you so mad? Pretty sure my daughter will get some very strong offers from top academic and top 20 lax schools. MD is not a top Choice. Average academic school who’s lax has declined. Just not the kind of school my daughter is interested in. You should be happy, more spots for your daughter! Would be a third tier for us, like a safety school.

Not mad at all, just calling your BS out. Maryland is certainly one of the top 2 or 3 lacrosse programs in the country and it is far above average with respect to academics. For some reason you want to bash Maryland, I'm not sure why but I will bet that the Maryland Coaching staff feels the same way about your daughter as you and your daughter feel about their university and their lacrosse program.

You seem pretty sure about all of the offers that will be coming your daughters way, for her sake I hope you are right. However, I have been around a long time and have been through the process multiple times and I have seen many delusional parents have a tough time when those offers from the top programs / universities do not come.

Will your daughter be ranked by IL in the Top 20 or 30 for her class? Will she earn a spot in the UA Senior AA game next year? If she is that caliber of player that is terrific and I am sure she will be able to choose to go wherever she wants. If she is not that caliber don't expect any offers from Top 10 - 20 programs anytime soon, those schools typically don't make offers to second tier players until all of the top players have committed.
