Yes. Save yourself some money and find a varsity kid. $25-30/hr is a reasonable rate. A D1 college kid is around $40/hr.

A varsity D1 commit is around $30-35/hr. If you want them to put their phone down while they baby-sit/instruct your kid - offer them $40/hr.

I paid 25$ for an All American HS senior. (Just graduated)

One more point. I actually prefer small groups of 2-4 than one on one. The varsity player will always throw a perfect pass but that's not what your daughter will see in games. Plus it's a team sport. With 2-4 kids the girls still get personalized attention but in a more realistic environment. My 2 cents.

Can anyone give some feedback on teams/clubs at this age? We are looking to have our daughter tryout and want to get some opinions on Eastern Nassau/Western Suffolk teams/clubs. Our older boys play travel but we haven't paid much attention to clubs on the girls side yet.

Thanks in advance.

Yellow Jackets leads the pack for the girls but they're not for everybody and could send the wrong message to a young lady. Empire is very good for this age and Brookhaven Bamdits is most reasonable with lots of success

What about Lady Jesters, LI Bengals, Team Elevate? I see Recon is adding girls, coached by the Molloy coaches and players. They are supposedly very organized and do the right thing for their players and the lacrosse community.

Jester Girls have a very good program. The 2025 is coached by the director who has no kid on the team. Get a lot for the price. Includes winter training. They practice in eastern nassau.

Empire is very good in what age bracket ? Not 2025. It's more of a town team. If your daughter wants to play on a competitive team look into TG, Leg, or YJ. Leg will have a dedicated 2015 and only one team per age group. The others will have an A, B, C team.
Etc.

YJ'S have great coaches at this age.
Not sure if they will be the same next year but this year was great for us.

Empire 2025 team beat everyone except YJ A-I'd say they are a pretty good team! They don't get 100+ kids at tryouts like YJ.

Empire is a good team-but not if you live in Nassau! Convenience is a priority, especially at this age!

Also, for the record, Empire only lost to YJ A-not bad for a team
without the exposure. How many kids show up for YJ tryouts? 100+?

Empire also lost to YJ B twice. Empire beat Janelli 1st time they played. Janelli won next 2 matchups.

Fact checker, Empire lost to YJB at least once ( saw it myself), and felt apart completely when they played YJA. Keep in mind most LI teams only cross paths once or twice a season, so this was end of season when kids should be all warmed up. Empire is nothing more than a town team, so if you're a local and you're looking for convenience, then it's right for you.

100 kids at YJ tryouts for 2025? ...... in CR's dreams. It's certainly not the case. Empire may serve a purpose for some, but they suffer from being geographically undesirable for most Suffolk players. Only North shore, East End players are interested. There are not many big "Power House" lax towns out that way with deep youth programs, except maybe Mt. Sinai.......but those kids go play YJ, for obvious reasons

Is Spallina still coaching YJ 2025? Those girls were pretty good, went down to Maryland and beat all of the MD teams.

This is laughable. Those girls lost by one goal in the 25 min semi game. They won all 4 games against the top MD 2025 teams by multiple points each game ( M&D black, SW, HG, Hoco). Those teams were not pushovers. You can not take that away from YJ 2025A girls.
I do not think any other YJ team can say they did that at this age.
This team will win, and lose, against these same MD teams through out the years, and that's ok.

Is "Goalie Dad" still associated with YJ 20225 A? I saw last year that they called up the B goalie and recruited a new girl to play for Janelli.

His daughter choose to focus on 91. B goalie stepped up to plate and did a nice job all season.

How does YJ work with tryouts in October, and fall tourney starting in October in MD? will they skip those tourneys. it seems Maryland lacrosse cycle starts August and ends in July.

YJ fall tourneys are not by team. CR takes whomever signs up and places them on a team. Sure, she'll group As with As when she can, but she'll also sprinkle in Bs and Cs. Really depends how many girls sign up for each tourney. Bottom line, fall tourneys have nothing to do with the team you are on.

At least last year for the younger grades, even though tryouts were in October official tryout results were not posted until after the fall tournament season (early December if I recall correctly). Fall tournaments rosters are mostly based on previous summer, although there is some mixing and matching that is done for various reasons.

Fall tournament sign ups for YJ are on the website. You should be in touch with your coach, and teammates, to see who is participating.
While this is a la carte, you should stick with the chemistry of the girls your child played with all summer. Especially in MD. Both 2025 teams have quality kids.

And for the Empire parent, stop spitting out incorrect facts. YJB beat you as well this summer.

Saw that Primetime Young Guns was listed for 2025, but don't see the team listed as a team for 2025. Thinking a lot of families are skipping and saving money and time! Would like to see our girls play Heros and MND again! Was nice going down there in summer and beating all of those MD teams! Need a rematch vs MND.

Which 2025 YJ team are you taking about ? Most YJA families
are already signed up.

the SincSports app shows all of the team registered for PYG, doesn't list YJ as a team registered for 25. The YJ24 shows up for 2024.

Can't speak for both YJ 2025 teams, but the majority of the A team is going to PYG. Don't know why it doesn't show.

Not fun for the 3rd graders. A waste of time and money. No team should be playing more than two age groups different from their own. But I guess that would mean less money for CR

C'mon, I realize this list has regressed to the verbal sparring of 3 year olds but if those who respond (in this age group, mind you), truly believe winning and LOSING is what matters for girls who are graduating in 2025 I feel for your kids.

I just have to add that, while my daughter is not on YJ Blue, we have been around these girls quite a bit and they are sweet, humble and funny...just like most 10-year-old girls, albeit they are extremely competitive and work hard. To say they brag is just disgusting because it couldn't be farther from the truth and reeks of jealousy of girls who are still in elementary school.

I think the point is that the team beat down other girls who were not as skilled. Somebody, most likely a parent of a girl on that team came on here and bragged about it. That is NOT being humble or sweet, and certainly not funny behavior by either the kids or the coach. Then it was pointed out that this team lost to better MD teams. When a score has a 10 point differential, the RIGHT thing to do is to STOP scoring. What exactly are you trying to prove by running up the score against as you say, 10 year olds? This is also the reason that people are now routing against this team and happy to see them lose. I for one am!

You must be new to this site. 1st - the braggart is likely just a troll with no affiliation to YJ and is just looking to stir the pot. 2nd - there were 3 YJ 2025 teams at the tourney. One of the 2025 YJ teams only played other YJ teams and a 2024 team despite being scheduled to play 2026 and 2027 teams. My guess is there was one YJ game against a town team and then schedules were adjusted to avoid 10 goal differentials. 3rd - why would you root against a bunch of 10 yr olds that have a passion for the sport and put the time in to be good? I'm sure they'd rather play hard and lose than have to play keep away or have other restrictions imposed on them because the other team can't hang. As a parent you always want your kids to earn their achievements and not have them handed to them.

This is also the reason that people are now routing against this team and happy to see them lose. I for one am!

You're an idiot. Who's fault is a 10 point differential? Have your kids put in the work and you won't need to play a game of uncle with other lacrosse teams in the future. I find it quite sad that a parent, any parent, would come on here and admit to cheering against 10 years old girls. You're a special kind of special. What you're really mad at is that your kid gets beat by a better team, big deal, get over it. I can only imagine what kind of a sportsman like kid you have.

I think the point is that the team beat down other girls who were not as skilled. Somebody, most likely a parent of a girl on that team came on here and bragged about it. You probably already lost to them... nothing like chiming in on a tourney you weren't at, that didn't report scores or follow the posted schedule. Reserve your judgment dope.

Now I get it! That explains the poor grammar and the fact that you are "routing" against them! I guess the extra year you had as a holdback didn't help. Anyway, I for one, will root for those girls.

Wow! I wish I had a snappy response to that. But, as a Marylander who scans these forums, all I can say is that I am embarrassed. I have older daughters who have played with one of them in her first year of college this fall and I am embarrassed by the comments I see in the younger age groups. Yes, as the girls get older the comments tone down - either the parents mellow out or those ones like the prior posters are out of lacrosse because their girls stop playing. I just want to say that the opinions and views expressed by the prior poster are not in line with those of the majority of educated and enlightened Marylanders who enjoy our rivalries with the LI teams. Yes, See you in MD and good luck to your girls.

Gotta love a troll on the page! I'm sure this YJ team wants no part of destroying the MD B teams. They are too good for that level of play, as you already know. Just for clarification, the director makes the schedule, not the girls or coach. The girls I know were looking forward to the great level of competition that MnD black and Heros Green brought to the summer tourney. These kids don't want easy wins.

Better get used to the Director making your schedule. She can't have you making waves with the MD paying customers. Bad for business. You still paid her for the tournament and get to pay all the expenses down to Maryland.

I'd surprised if there were more than a page of notes between all the "evaluators." Notes consisted of "blue pinnie" "yellow pinnie" "red pinnie".
Was shocked by the non focus of the evaluators. what a waste.

Get used to it. It happens every year. Ask any parent of an older child in the YJ program and they'll tell you the same thing. It gets worse the older the girls get.

That Blue team is hard to get on to. But the yellow team is also really good. Hopefully all the girls return, my daughter loves it.

I think the point is that the team beat down other girls who were not as skilled. Somebody, most likely a parent of a girl on that team came on here and bragged about it. What are the girls doing this spring? The girls in Baltimore will have their NGLL spring league? Summer will be fun, looks like we are going to be at all of the tourneys with Hero's, M&D, Skywalkers, and STEPS.

Lax for Cure schedule out! Looks like Steps Elite and YJ setup the schedule to avoid playing Heros or MND black until the playoffs and play an exhausted team 10 mins after Heros or MND team that play each other for the right to make the playoffs most likely.

The d-bag award officially goes to THIS GUY. ^^ besides weren’t you beat by this team in a FULL length game last week. By at least 5 goals? Simmer down crab cake.

Each team/coach has a different approach to showcase tournaments and championship tournaments. Some want to win every game regardless of format and others do not. Either way you look at it YJ and M&D are 1 and 1 vs each other this year and 2 and 2 overall. In title games M&D is 1 and 0 and I think that holds more water than a win in a showcase tournament (where everyone plays equal). YJ and M&D has the making of a great rivalry, so parents just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Not only did they lose when it mattered, the pompous parents did quite a bit of whining. Sounds about right considering the college record of the HC

I'm guessing the younger clubs have to follow the same format as the older girls for "showcase" tournaments. Which means no championship. To your point there was no one recruiting 5th graders that weekend and many teams use it as an opportunity to play everyone equally.

yeah, but not the slick LI guy. A great coach he is, playing everyone not in his DNA. 15-1, winter league, indoor, doesn't matter., foot does not come off the gas and the end of the bench wallows on the bench with their yj swag (not that the end of the bench aren't great players in their own right, no knock on them) so no excuses he was playing everyone and not playing to win. BS.

The guys practices are well worth it. End of the bench with him, is better than starting on so many teams. Can't deny that.

Have to love the ignorance of the post above, written by someone who wasn't at this game but clearly has an issue with the YJ coach or is simply jealous of him. Instead of lobbing anonymous insults maybe you should get your hands off the keyboard and have a catch with your daughter.

For those that care - this was a very competitive 22 min 1 goal game where the YJ team played man down for the last 3-4 minutes bc their player got a red card. M&D scored the game winner with 15 -20 seconds left. Was it a foul, yes- worthy of a red - no.

This will be a great rivalry for years to come.

Player got a red card.....exactly! Thug play. Keep playing that box! Teaches girls to get penalties, not play with finesse. Girls lax is not boys lax. And as for the great coach, he had a nice run, but currently all his franchise teams have taken a downhill turn. Crush, slipped from the #1 spot and the SB girls failed pretty bad at the end. Gotta know how to finish big games. M&D know how to do that and have the studs to get the job done.

Thug play? That’s ridiculous. 10 year old kids here. That kid with red card quite possibly best player on that team. Not even my team and I know she’s not that type of player. Still many good players left on field for that 3 minutes I would imagine to get job done. Sad to see grown ups on here calling kids names.

Best players don’t get red cards and cost teams important games. Red card players should be punished be the the coach and not be allowed to play in the next game. That type of behavior is unnecessary and should be unacceptable. Gives the coach, player and club a bad name....oh wait, they already have that!

Regardless of her being the "best player" on the team or not... that was a pretty deliberate swing of the stick at the girls head. I have been watching girls lacrosse for many years at many age groups and it is not too often that you see a direct red (especially at 5th grade level). I'm not blaming the player, but it is the result of a team that is being taught to play dirty, they take way too many yellow cards to begin with. That team is too skilled and talented, it is a shame that they are being taught to play like a bunch of thugs because they can win without playing dirty (and it cost them in this case).

Like any program there are pros and cons. Having been through a number of them on the boys and the girls side with various kids they are no worse and there are aspects we like better than others. A lot of times when people leave an organization people seem to like to throw rocks back at it. just move on if you are or weren't happy goes for any club team...

Accusing an 11 year old of “thug” play is really sad. I wasn’t at the game, but I’ve watched that kid play 50 times. She’s the best player I’ve seen at this age. Wins every draw, ground ball machine, makes everyone around her better. Looks to pass before she shoots which is unheard of for kids that age. Never once have I seen that kid play like a “thug”. She’s a first class kid who’s a great teammate. Like I said, I wasn’t at the game so I can’t comment on the actual play, but even the thought of saying things like this about a child is deplorable.

Waste of time, many have tried, it does not "toughen them up", or make them better. A completely different game. In middle school, they will be forced to play girls, since it is offered. You are better off getting her involved in a competitive girls program, and playing multiple sports.

With regard to youth lacrosse, it would be up to your local league. I do not know of any town league on Long Island that has said no and there is a precedence which would be hard to ignore. Currently, there are girls playing or have played at Rocky Point, Sachem, Bayport Blue Point and Mt. Sinai. Travel lacrosse has also warmed to the idea since your money is as green as anyone else's.

As for the switchover, there are a couple of things to consider in New York State:

1) Does your school offer girls lacrosse? If no, she can play boys lacrosse with no questions asked.

2) According to New York State, any girl may play a boy's sport if the girl's sport is not competitive enough for them. I'm paraphrasing here because I don't have time to look up the exact wording. This is subject to the approval of the Athletic Director of your daughter's high school and you would most likely need to be able to demonstrate the need with this very subjective rule.

3) There is always the end run. "My daughter identifies as a boy." BOOM. That will send educators scurrying. Probably not a great idea if it's not true.

As to the benefits, which another poster said in their opinion there aren't any, who cares? Does your daughter really want to play boys lacrosse? If she does, let her play and worry about the other stuff later. It's a game. Games should be fun for kids. Games could even be fun for adults (shocking!) It isn't going to hurt her game. Look at Lasota at Northwestern who grew up playing box lacrosse with the boys. Box lacrosse is a savage game. She seems to be doing okay. If your daughter has got a stick in her hand, she's getting better. The more fun she has, the more likely she'll have a stick in her hand.

So, if your daughter is going to have fun laying the lumber and taking hits in return, you should let her. Forget the naysayers, it's not their child. It's about your child and what she wants to do. People are so tied up with "benefits" and trying to get an edge, they forget about kids and FUN. I've seen many girls playing boys lacrosse, the ones who are having fun are plainly evident. And so are the ones who don't want to be there and their parents are making them. Don't be that parent.

91 Boys goalie is a female athlete. So far, she is better than the other goalie boys, but she doesn't have to mix it up and when she does it isn't a good thing for her. Look out for puberty though! I would expect that in a year or two, that will be the end of that.
