I assume before making the switch some things like playing time and role were spoken about so if she stays at attack the three new attackers they added this year are going to be struggling for minutes because I agree coaches’ kids aren’t going to be benched.

Hearing a top player on Coppermine left for M&D. They told her not to shoot and just clear out of the way and let the midfielders shoot[/quote]

Coaches don’t tell top players not to shoot. The player in question wasn’t a core contributor. Will be a nice role player for mnd but the attacker and 2 middies at mnd will still get the majority of touches there too.

Great kid and player, wishing her the best of luck.

Rankings are out. I guess its as good as it can be and fun to keep track. One complaint I have is that you lose ranking points by stepping on the field with a team that is ranked lower even if you win pretty handily.

Sadly you have to run it up which is not good lax or sportsmanship. Rankings are a guide but really don’t mean a lot in long run

Fall rankings are really tough for the system to figure out. Not enough games played. Wait till summer. They tend to change a good amount.

I don't claim to know everything about lacrosse, but if your daughter is an attacker on the top ranked team in the country or on the 180th ranked team in the country and is told not to shoot, you need to find a new team.

Since we are arguing about an apocryphal story to begin with, this is hard to judge without context.

Was it wrong to tell Michael Jordan, or Kobe's, or Stef's teammates not to shoot at the end of the fourth quarter of a close game, and instead to set up plays for the top scorer?

Not apples to apples….last shot or end of the fourth quarter isn’t what PP was speaking of. But to answer your question, no it’s not wrong to want your best player to take the last shot for your team. But the bulls, Lakers or warriors come on. What a notIntelligent comparison, they are pros not kids learning the game. Wow, definitely know what team you are defending.

The player that left Coppermine for M&D is a good player. But the dad is out of his mind and I'm sure Coppermine is glad to get rid of him and let M&D deal with the problem.

Clubs look to develop good players and win at the same time. It’s a balancing act because we all want our daughters to develop while playing on a good team. Clubs are not out to promote one kid over another nor do they care who scores. The fact that someone is claiming this is why a girl left one team for another is ludicrous. Yes Coppermine has a couple of really talented girls that can score at will but the entire team is talented so to discount any is unfair. Same goes for all the top teams like M&D, Hero’s, Crush, SW, etc. Clearly the family had other reasons and we should wish them well because after all it’s just a 13 or 14 year old girl. No need to bash the kid, her family or the club. May not have been the best fit for her. It will happen to other players and clubs.

Here's a different take. These clubs have coaching issues especially Coppermine. They have girls who never play a minute in games, even in the Fall. That's not how you develop players. Instead of bashing parents, clubs need to look in the mirror and reflect on their coaching choices.

The Coppermine club is well aware of and supports these coaches decisions. The 2028 coach is also a club director.

Coppermine has put all their money on this 2028 team. They need this team to be good so have taken a win at all costs attitude to make sure that happens. Their older teams have not performed, they've not been able to keep talent and they've not had the recruiting success of the other clubs in the area. Hopefully it works, they have some very talented girls and if they can keep them all together I'm sure they will have a few individuals get recruited to good programs, but it might be at the expense of numbers 8 - 20 on the roster.

Why would ANY parents pay $3,000 a year for their daughter not to touch the field just to say they won a t shirt is insanity. The Coppermine coaches should be ashamed of themselves. This is the time to develop these young girls, not worrying about t shirts.

It's no secret that Coppermine 28 prioritizes winning over everything else, which is often not in the best interests of some pretty talented players. And I don't mean the top 2 or 3 players, I'm referring to the really talented supporting cast who could the team would be lost without. But Coppermine has their reasons as have been mentioned, and as long as they're not promising something different, then the players and their parents are well aware of the situation. Let them do their thing and let's stop talking about them all. the. time.

The obsession over coppermine is fool, but i guess if m&d or skywalkers were on top the obsession would be with them. If your daughter doesn't play for Coppermine, why are you so concerned about their "playing time", "coaching", "cost", etc? It doesn;t effect you, right? Move on.

The other teams in the "tier 1"top 3, ES and Heroes have a pretty liberal player rotation policy from what I can tell. Granted some play more than others but everyone sees the field at some point. Is it possible that Coppermine would have a even better team if had more equal playing time. Seeing the same players and scheme all the time probably benefits opponents. Good coaches can figure out a way to slow down something if its the only look they are getting especially as girls get older.

There is no "equal" playing time in Club lacrosse - never has been. There are plenty of girls that play on "top" teams (past and present) that are content with barley seeing the field as long as they are on a "top" team

The Coppermine 2028 is the best team in the country. If you play on that CLUB team you are expected to be one of the best. All the players should be developing together and the ones that don't play should go to another team where they can develop with players of the same ability. I know it shounds harsh but its the reality. If your player is not playing there is a reason and it is not usually the coach.

When you get to HS and it mainly becomes showcases clubs absolutely do (and should) equal playing time, or pretty darn close to it. If your club doesn’t do that in HS then you are with the wrong club.

I would be willing to wager a king's ransom that more than 7 girls on that team will get recruited to good programs.

Unless their is equal talent their isn’t equal play time. Strongest players play more and will help others get to schools better than they could get by being on a B teams best player. In summer the top players will play more to be seen by the correct level of school. In the fall those that don’t have committments will get the majority of time to be seen by 2nd level schools looking to fill their roster.

As someone who has been through this more than once, you could not be more wrong. They should be playing equal, or close to equal in the summer going into sophomore and junior years. If your club is not playing them that way, you should switch clubs. Wins and losses don’t matter when they get older. And the good coaches know that.

When you get to HS and it mainly becomes showcases clubs absolutely do (and should) equal playing time, or pretty darn close to it. If your club doesn’t do that in HS then you are with the wrong club.

This is inaccurate, many teams do absolutely even out playing time and many clubs have policies in place that supports this philosophy. So the teams who are committed to developing the majority of their players now (as opposed to prioritizing winning) should be able to shift to more balanced playing time without compromising their ability to compete in the majority of their games. They may lose a few more than they would if PT weren't equal because you will also have some drop in ability and IQ, but college coaches don't care who wins the game.

This is 2028, right? Kids are still in Middle School, right? College coaches are NOT looking at them at tournaments right now. There are top clubs that DO NOT play equal playing (unless this is something new). M&D DID NOT play equal playing. Yes, when they get to HIGH SCHOOL, the "equal" playing may change BUT you will still have your BEST players on the filed the majority of the time. FACT!
There are girls that are content with being on a "TOP" team and barely see the field.

Oof. Clearly your daughter is on Copp and never sees the field, lol. If you telling yourself that this is normal and ok for the girls, have at it.

M&D , SW and Heros older teams have all played games in the recruiting year that all did not play equal. The other clubs probably did.

We appear to need a new topic.

Any competitive lacrosse planned between now and NGLL? Too early for 2028s to check out D1 Winter Prospect Camps? Do any of the Baltimore teams take advantage of opportunities to play 6s or other tourneys?

Most of the top local 2028 clubs are playing in the BWI winter indoor league (instead of the Coppermine indoor league which does not offer an 8th grade division). Competion against each other is worth it, but they have been crushing the JV high school teams.

Some clubs are playing in the Indoor Tournament in Spooky Nook in January as well as a tournament in Florida in January.

Is the Florida tournament you mention the Robinson Sports Citrus 6s? Who is going down for that and is anyone in general looking to pick up an players. Florida in January sounds good to me.
