that is a silly criticism. all team take new players at tryouts, often at the expense of incumbents who have been there awhile, if the new player is better. do you know of a single team that does NOT do that?

I diagnose the comment above as "parent who just came up to Elite ball from A-AA clubs 1 year ago....and now their kid is going back to AA. "

Below the HoCo AAA level, the new kid could score 250 to the incumbent kid's 40, and they are keeping the old kid. And that's probably good. Good for player development, "love of the game" etc.

At AAA or above, there just needs to be an APPARENT differentiation between new kid's and incumbent kid's skill set, and the winner is the winner. That's when as a parent you will hear those phrases, "dominated," "lost a step," "trouble keeping up" "aggressiveness" "foot race" etc. It's also when you're more likely to see 5-6 kids trying out for 1 roster spot that has been vacated, which to me is one of the craziest aspects of youth lax.

But this parent is kidding themselves if they think that a new kid walks into FCA, NL, Crabs tryouts etc and gets a roster spot because he scored 10/12 on the corners, and the incumbent (their kid) scored 9/12 on the corners, and everything else was equal. Coaches will keep the devil they know, unless there is an apparent reason to try somebody new (which, yeah, could include political factors off the field, so buyer beware on that front). .

How did Hawks tryouts shake out? Expect much to stay the same with limited changes.

FCA finishes up tonite. Expect only a handful of changes max.

Makes sense as those are the two most stable teams.

Crabs cut half the team and is starting anew.

91 tryouts end up this weekend and will be packed with kids who didn’t make Hawks, Crabs and FCA.

DCE doesn’t seem to have taken off like expected.

A little early to say DCE hasn't taken off. Won't know anything until after NL's second tryout (tonight) and DCE's second tryout (Monday). Families will be evaluating offers prob until the last second. Kids pushed off of ML/NL will obviously look to DCE, DCE may also be able to poach some starters from those teams. BLC beating NL at Pinnacle last weekend gave them a little more credibility, and the coaching situation at ML has got to be a concern for parents. Is it more Cabell or will it be some kid fresh out of college, or something else here? Horsey and Severns aren't a myth, they are coaching DCE and were at Pinnacle with them.

You are clueless. DCE offers are out to the boys they want. Absolutely nothing to do with the second tryout for the littles.

Have heard from a parent on Hawks that there weren't any true standout new players but they expect a few new kids.

Have heard from a Crabs parent that the coach said something along the lines of "If your kid is good but small we aren't taking him". Pretty ugly IMO. We've all seen the Crabs only play 12 players a game for years so maybe this will give them more players who see the field.

FCA - Getting new goalies and at least 1 FCA 27 otherwise, no idea

91 - I'd set the over/under on roster size at 30, prove me wrong

DCE - From the outside it seems like it would be a great landing spot.

I hope the kids, and (unfortunately) more importantly the parents are all happy with their new teams. I know my kid is ready to put down the stick.

Right, offers are most likely out. The point, which you missed entirely, is that the decision to accept or reject those offers depends in large part on whether those same players do, or do not, get offers from NL and ML. Not too complex a concept there my man.

Two top goalies at the Hawks- that means half the reps and half the play. Where did the old Hawks golaie from True end up?

Do these teams give a time limit on how long their offer are good for?

Yeah but the better player you are and the more they want you, the more willing the team is to give you time to consider the offer. "We need to hear back in 24 hrs" means different things to a bubble player versus a guy who has multiple offers.

And half the Crabs are going to settle for Crabs "B" team? Crabs picked up a lot of Predators players even 2nd string. What's up with that.

My man, a lot of these players have ZERO interest in laying for Madlax or NL. Fact. Many of them are coming to tryouts from those two programs

DC Ex has picked off a minimum of 5 Madlax players, likely more to come. Certainly more after fall. That’s from a Madlax team with only 19 on the roster this spring excluding their 2 kids from TX and NH who play sparingly.

If you don’t think they’ll pick up a few key players from NL as well, you simply don’t know what’s happening. They will. NL kids and parents will never go to Madlax, there’s real animosity there. They will go to DCE.

DC Express will have the best coaching staff, hands down, in the 2028 DMV. And their track record with the 2021, 2022, 2025, and 2026 teams supports that statement.

I have no clue what this guy is trying to say. Perhaps he is unhappy with where is own kid is shaking out, so he is trying to slam every good player in the age group and their Dads in one post? am i close?

I keep hearing that 5-8 Madlax players are going to DCE, and I would be very interested to know where they fall on the MadLax roster. If they are bottom third, who cares where they go. If they are middle third, they are interchangeable with the incumbent BLC players, so still, who cares. but if they are top third, now that would be very interesting.

I can definitely see why kids would leave MadLax for DCE. But what is the pitch to player satisfied with his playing time on Next Level to quit that team and go to DCE?

You may want to do a little research on the other coaches. You're also comparing subjective things.

It sounds like a kid got bounced from MadLax and is moving to DCE, and his Mom is trying to stir the pot that the whole world is going to DCE and the other two teams are being decimated. but the good players will disperse among the three teams, because everyone wants playing time. when the dust settles, all three teams will be fine, and your son should just work on improving his game.

No one got bounced from Mad Lax but you’re going to have to be more specific when you say pissed off Mad Lax parent. Maybe one who values sportsmanship whose kid would have stayed to play the Red Hots?

Hawks add 5, cut 3

Best player from 91 and Crabs added to Hawks. 2027 Hawks goalie reclassed down to Hawks 28.

Uh oh. Looks like somebody is got a case of the Mundays.

2028 True Chesapeake Team,

My Staff and I want to thank you for letting us have the opportunity to coach your boys over the past 8 months. We got a chance to develop great relationships with all of them and we genuinely cared about them. As someone who has been doing club lacrosse for almost 20 years around the country, I've come to realize that the Maryland Market and the parents are completely transactional. It doesn't matter how much training you will do for them or how much time you will spend with them, the relationship will always be a transaction. It makes you detest your job. We all do this because we love to teach, coach, develop and build young men. That is why we do this. I started True Lacrosse because I love developing players.

Between the directors and myself you had 17 years of College Coaching Experience, 12 Years of Professional Lacrosse Experience, and 25 years of experience of being in the industry and helping kids get recruited We were all dedicated to your boys and helping them develop as lacrosse players but more importantly great people. This was not good enough for you guys. It was not good enough for this parent group.

I hope all of you find whatever you are looking for.

The door is always open,

Coach Deane

It is a shame when parents don’t give dedicated and talented coaches more than 8 months to develop a kid and build a team. When you give a program years though, you have earned the right to move on and see what else is out there for your kid.

Not a True parent, but I assume the families are leaving because the team flew in ringers from out of town for the Hoco games. can management and coaches really be surprised that the local players are looking for different team?

Makes sense as those are the two most stable teams.

Crabs cut half the team and is starting anew.

91 tryouts end up this weekend and will be packed with kids who didn’t make Hawks, Crabs and FCA.

DCE doesn’t seem to have taken off like expected.

Hawks add 5, cut 3

Best player from 91 and Crabs added to Hawks. 2027 Hawks goalie reclassed down to Hawks 28.

Hawks got the best player from a 1-6 team. That doesn’t sound like an upgrade to me. Both the kids you are referring to might make the third string. I do know this much the goalie is a true 28 not a reclass he just played up.

I detest it the transactional nature of it all as well. Point me to the clubs that are letting kids play for free. Oh wait...

Can everyone here agree that this time of year is the worst. I cannot stand the jockeying, club switching, etc. Even if my kid makes his team it's just the worst seeing kids you like and families you've gotten to know just cut loose like yesterday's news. Really not fun for parents and I can only imagine what the average 13 yr old thinks of this process.

Haaaa. Great troll here. Or how about the head coach getting kicked out of the vail tournament for putting his hand on the ref after the game? Or for any other number of reasons… Madlax has never cut a kid in the last 5 years. They simply don’t have players to cut, roster has never been 20 strong. Couple of kids have come and gone, but they don’t have the luxury of cutting kids. And it’s not just 2028, nobody wants to come play for Madlax. It’s a steady churn after 7th grade, hence the influx of flyins from Kentucky and Texas.

Eeeeesh. The rich get richer.
Heard True imploded, so everyone likely to pick up a scrap or two, but it wasn’t an overly talented team to begin with. Hence, implosion.

but they weren't developing players or building a team. they were doing what all True teams do, shuffling players among the local, regional and national teams. they took the model to the extreme by flying in players from literally as far as Nevada so that the team that True put on the field for Hoco was a national team. the kids who were coming to practice during the week were displaced by fly ins for the games. that is not "developing a kid and building a team."

Yep. Fortunately it’s the year it happens…. These teams should start to gel and remain more cohesive as they spend more time focused on high school lacrosse.
