This is a ridiculous comment. There are many paths to lacrosse success. Tell Katie Schwarzmann that 9th grade is too late to develop your lacrosse game.

Just do the math--around 110 girls play for the top 5 Baltimore clubs. There is a growing list of 117 Division 1 women's lacrosse programs and almost 300 more D3 programs. Over two-thousand girls from across the country will get to pick a college where they can play lacrosse while pursuing their education. Even if you look at the top 25 alone, the notion that you have to be on a Baltimore big 5 team in 8th grade to get there is manifestly false. Looks like NY, Connecticut, Jersey, and PA are all doing pretty well. Recruiting is national now.

All a comment like yours does is make good parents who are trying to give the best opportunities to their kids, while balancing academics, life, culture, etc., nervous they are missing something. Give it a rest.

You can be an August birthday and not be eligible Youth Nationals. Older daughter ran into this. Mom didn’t want her to be youngest in kindergarten and waited a year - nothing sports related. It happens but people like to make stuff up because it’s better for message boards.

Maybe she went on a family vacation? Maybe her parents have one of those fool jobs that require them to work during the week and they couldn’t get her there? There are plenty of other potential reasons girls wouldn’t make a tournament and all are more likely than any ‘28 player being 15 years old.

Good make up stat Coppermine mom. I guess she couldn’t of carpooled with a teammate. No holdbacks are allowed to play in that tournament.

The 09/01 birthdate or after is a real reason why M&D doesn't do this tournament.

The Coppermine 28 kid who couldn't maybe born in summer 2009. That would make her ineligible.

No one gets full rides anymore and if they do it isnt until they are an upperclassman.

She had a prior commitment and unlike the [Censored] people talk on here about Coppermine only T-Shirt chasing - so not true. Some families have other priorities and with all the lacrosse all of these kids play - they miss tournaments. Thus the case this week. I respect that. To talk [Censored] about a 13 yr old by adults is sickening and un-excusable. They lost without many excuses and it happens. They may have still lost with her there but to ridicule a 13 yr old- people need to reevaluate themselves. She is a true 28 / incoming 8th grader. My daughter played with her at the UMD Camp.

lol, top player on the #1 team in age group and she "couldn't get a ride to a tournament", Im sure thats the case. I'm sure HC woulda had limo service if possible.

Soccer tournament. Coppermine asked to move the game, but they wouldn’t allow it.

Slight change of topic- assume Crush stayed together as no one reporting spotting them at any tryouts? Good for their coach. Where will the girls cut from Coppermine end up? M&D quiet- not a lot of new talent showed up at their tryouts, they lost some players and girls declined roster spots…that’s got to be a first for M&D

So, who won the tournament?

Seems M&D having issues with several grad years, by issues, I mean, talent leaving and not a lot wanting to go there. They still will be cream of crop of things def changing.

Hero's won the tourney. Looked good throughout.

Urban Elite beat Coppermine. Athletic team, but not up to the mid-Atlantic top 5 standards lacrosse-wise. Look at their scores from Hershey. This was likely due to missing player(s).

Didn't Coppermine have their new middle from MDU playing? Seems like she would be a pretty good backfill.

So what does everyone think the issue is with M&D if this is all accurate?

M&D had a huge turnout for tryouts in the 2028 age group. Not sure where this info is coming from.

As always, M&D is just fine. Unless PPs were at tryouts and know what kind of “talent” coaches are looking for, I’m not sure they’re in a great place to say. The fact is, there were many girls at tryouts (for all years that I saw), so there certainly seem to be girls who want to play at M&D. The 28 black team had a normal amount of turnover, but they already had a very small roster so they’ll probably have to add more new players than is typical. Overall they are a very nice and talented group of girls that seems to enjoy playing together. Which is ultimately what matters.

M&D's main issue is the parent coaching

Good team. From an opponent's perspective the "parent coach" is pretty darn good too.

I was there and many of them are from lower teams hoping to get into red.

As is true for every club with an A and B team.

Parent coaching is fine as long as the coaches are qualified and that is the case there.

Coppermine has 2 of the 3 as parent coaches

Hero’s has parent coaches

Crush has parent coaches

Not ideal but sometimes unavoidable.

What M&D parent coach a problem? Is it all of them? This is a confusing comment without any substance.

Parents that also coach very successful high school teams in their career but hey the expert parent on the sideline criticizes on the sideline because they can do better. Parents are undefeated critics.

Let's be honest, the parents have ruined the game for EVERYONE!!

Coaches/clubs need to put a stop to the parent sideline coaching. We see it with many teams at both A&B level. Parents commenting on players mistakes on the field needs to stop also. Leave it to the real coaches we pay a lot of money for them to coach.

I’d rather have an experienced parent coach any day of the week over a young coach with no ties. Parent coaches are way more invested in the girls IMO. I have had experience with both, and will always prefer parents. advice… Find a parent coach, whose daughter does not play your daughter’s position.

How exactly do you want that handled? Coaches to yell at their parents for talking to their kids during game?

Teams should make cuts based on parent behavior. That would change things fast.

My experience has been that teams with one parent coach have generally been fine. The situations to avoid are the 3+ parent assistant coaches. Total disasters every time I've seen them.

Some great coaches in the list, including successful HS and College coaches. There is 1 that doesn’t belong or lowest on this posted.
