The Copp parents coming on here bashing SW on all age groups is getting old. SW will be fine, and I would expect them to beat Copp in the next year, when it really counts. But thanks, Coppermine dad for your insightful analysis.
Exactly. No matter how old and out of touch the SW owner gets, and no matter how many well-run and well-capitalized clubs form in the same geographic area, SW has the golden touch and will live on as a top-tier club for eternity.

The fact that Coppermine isn't the top club in Maryland (and top 3 in the country) by now, is actually kind of surprising. No other club has, large well-turfed indoor facilities, well-turfed/lighted outdoor facilities, and top notch weight/fitness rooms at their disposal along with what seems like endless funding, which should attract top coaches. Coppermine is not the new kid on the block any more and they still run neck and neck with SW depending on the year and don't touch M&D (who now has capital but no permanent facilities) or Hero's (who doesn't have a large private investor or permanent facilities).

Except that they are sharing them with a bunch of other Coppermine rec leagues and clubs. Often there are 3 Coppermine lax teams sharing the same remote field at their complex.

Not sure how you don’t consider them top 3. They are ranked 1 in 2028, ranked 4th in 2029 and their 31s made it to the NGLL finals. The 27s are their lowest ranked team, and still in the top 20.

M&D
Hero's
MD United

Thats the top three clubs in MD.

Because you are forgetting their older teams. 27s are not their lowest ranked team, the 24s are. Those older teams still matter when looking at a club as a whole, something Copp parents seem to forget.

Coppermine parents only look at 9th grade and below apparently but completely ignore high school and recruiting

Coppermine was smart by going young following the soccer model and grabbed a ton of talent. Problem is, a lot of those kids will burn out like soccer and other programs also went younger and have teams down to second grade which is also insane.

Until they have a 5-8 years of top 20 teams that actually get recruited by major programs. They aren’t a top tier team

The 23s were their 1st ever team, so the fact that they have been able to build top younger teams that plan to remain through HS is a huge accomplishment. They are playing in the top tournaments in the top brackets and recruiting will happen as a result and with some of the coaches they are bringing in (M&D 24).
^The 23's were Coppermines first ever team???? Or am i reading this wrong?

Correct
Coppermine "North" started in 2023, but the original Coppermine has teams back to 2018

I think they mean that the Coppermine 2023 team (first grad year) started in 2018...

I'd love to know which clubs started when

I know M&D started in 2001.

Except the 2023 thing is wrong. They had a 2018 team. And 2020, 2021, and 2022 teams that all had players play for multiple years for the club. So they have been around longer than people seem to want to admit.

Talking club, 2024-2032, MDU better than SW and Coppermine.
If you want to put more weight on 2024 2025 because it’s HS fine, but assure you the 2029 or 2031 more concerned with their grad years.

Which is the point.

Hero’s and MDU only clubs who can say all their grad years last week made it to semi finals of lax for the cure.

MD United commitments over the last 3-4 years is slightly better than TLC level, couple big D1 recruits but mostly low level D1 and lots of D2/D3 players.

Just google MD United Lacrosse commitments and compare with other programs, it is on the sports recruits page

They are not better than SW at 2024-2026. Look at the rankings. SW is higher than them, much higher in some years. SW also has much better commits than MDU.

If you want to put weight on the 2024-2026 years, sure, you want to ignore the 2022 and 2023 and 2027-2032 go right ahead.

Things change, SW dying club, Coppermine has iutworked them at younger ages and now it shows.

You’d be a fool to compare a club sending most of its grad years to NGLL and lax for cure semi finals routinely to a defunct club. It’s not 2017.

You are acting like middle school ngll is the top of the mountain, it’s not

You have no idea what you are talking about. Did TLC have a girl play in the final four this year? Do they have a MD commit? Do they have a Penn St commit?

Again, MDU is the 3rd best club right now in the state. Now if those middle school and lower girls on MDU go to another club for HS, sure, that will change, but end of day, who is developing those girls?
Recruiting is always looking in the past. I could care less who SW or TLC had recruit in 2018 class.

Coppermine right there, that's debatable based on the 2028 2029 teams for sure.

Things change folks. Imagine TLC talking up their club in 2018. End of day, you better be building up your elementary grad years or you are in trouble (SW could be an exception, time will tell)

TLC had a Tewaaraton finalist, Isabelle Peterson

AND...7 former players in the Elite 8 of the tournament. 4 at Denver, 2 at Syracuse and one at ND

Just face it, MD United is a B level club at the high school level at best!

I think the TLC 2027 girls who are currently 160th in nation are excited that Peterson who graduated in 2019 was a TLC player lol. Not sure that helps them in recruiting but who knows.
TLC, SW, best of the best LOL.

Are you a Nebraska football fan as well?

Any predictions for Summer Genesis?

Is this BLC's last tournament? Maybe they play inspired.

I think TLC at ONE point was up there with recruiting, but no longer - you can see the slump - you can really compare it with the 2022 class and went down from there. Not sure what happened with that club but defiantly NOT what it used to be.

Here’s the thing. College coaches could care less about the NGLL t shirts that parents like to brag about. If you look at who is most successful in both recruiting AND girls who play and make a difference on their college teams, the best clubs in the state are M&D and Skywalkers. SW always struggles at the younger teams. This is not a new phenomenon for them, at all. But they get strong in the years that it counts, make good placements for their girls, and many of those girls are actually difference makers on their college teams - not girls who ride the pine.

Until MDU starts actually having solid recruiting years they will not be on the same level.

Basically, the success SW has is from getting other clubs to develop players and hoping they come to SW based on reputation. SW is terrible at younger ages. Those SW likely will be replaced by other better players.

Is SW 2027 is going to ever beat the clubs like M&D, HG, MDU, its going to be from getting those kids to play for them or BLC other players migrating. Maybe it happens.

Someone needs to tell the team playing TLC this weekend that I.Peterson was a TLC player. That should be a 3-4 goal swing off the bat.

Club doesn’t really matter until about 9th grade, girls move around and teams settle out.

Coaches aren’t even looking at the 27s until fall of 24’.

This may be a good time to tell you all Sky Walkers is my favorite to win the B bracket at Summer Genesis.

Tough matchup against (checks notes) #95 Dynasty Elite Foxtrot to start the tourney but I think they get it done.

Things get tougher with #34 Liberty and #55 NEMS. Someone better not tell them SW is an A club.

This is mostly an agreeable take. Looking at the the SW teams, an approximate 1/3 to 2/5s of the younger players stay with the team throughout (until graduation). Yes, SW will have the luxury of cherry picking added players. And, that's fine--proves the point that the franchise brand is strong (41 players in this year's D1 tourney). How SW maintains its brand is irrelevant unless we are really stuck arguing about the current 27s which is fun for discussion sake (eh hem Coppermine), but irrelevant in the long run. Let's be fair here, all clubs change players--cut, upgrade, deal with personnel adjustments...all in an effort to get better for HS to college recruiting. And let's double down on that: when the girls are in HS, who beats who is slightly less important. As long as there is high-level competition--coaches will find your kid if they are a good player. Period. The SW24s play M&D strong, though I think M&D has the win edge by a good clip. All of those girls from both those teams are being looked at equally. No coaches are saying "let's not look at number x because they lost to M&D."

Hottake-turned-fact for my Coppermine slurpers: AT LEAST 5 Coppermine girls are trying for SWB this year. I promise it isn't because they think SWB is a sinking ship.

you should revisit this comment in two years 😆😆 the SW 25's used to lose badly. in 7th grade ngll they lost to M&D like 15-0. Now they've beaten M&D the last couple times they've played. SW always accelerates in high school. if yiu don't care for that club then keep your daughter where she is. don't come on the internet making snarky comments. you'll see where the 25 blue committ which having a 27 daughter should be your main concern going in to high school. not how they play at summer genesis in 8th grade or how they've done in the NGLL in middle school

I hear all the comments about people trashing SW and don’t see it. SW has a legacy of great recruiting and there’s no disputing it. However this 27 team as is currently isn’t that great for whatever reasons. Maybe they improve with the majority of this team, with new girls or stay the same. I see more defensive comments or comments trying to give the perception this SW is a must join team and everyone is trying out. Good luck. Just remember for each new kid added there’s a good chance one current kid will get cut too. I agree many NEMS and BLC will tryout. Doubt many if any HG will and that five Coppermine will tryout.

SW not having parent coaches is a huge advantage at the HS level. Favoritism, perceived or real, when recruiting is involved can lead to drama. They also seem to have quality, non parent coaches. The 27 coach just had an undefeated state championship season and has a proven track record both at the HS and club level with SW. The 25 coach has been on staff at SPSG throughout their recent success and has the 25s going in the right direction. Proven non parent coaching and proven recruiting success/connections attracts talented kids from other clubs. It just surprises me that Coppermine, with their facilities and funding, can't pull a few state championship coaches like this that are not coaching their own daughters.

The plain truth is SW has a very solid defense for a mid-tier A team.

But they are absolutely lacking offense. The really struggle to score against decent teams. Their new defense additions have been a plus. But that offense is pedestrian to put it nicely.

We played them in the spring and won 90% of the draws and I don't think our defense broke a sweat

If your saying who is playing the best? Or overall for the year? If it's the former, then

Aces
Hero's
M&D
YJ
MD U
Eaglestix
Madskilz

8 below shouldn't be on this list.

Aces and M&D definitely the 2 best performances last week.

Does it seem like Aces and M&D seem to play each other a lot? Twice last week and they open tomorrow in Hershey against each other.

Other matchups seem frequent. Like Hero's and YJ.

Maybe I'm imagining. What are some other frequent matchups (or perceived) that seem to happen often?

Steps isn't an elite team at this age group. Not close. They have a really good draw girl and strong goalie. This keeps them in a lot of games, besides that they just don't have the playmakers that you would expect on a true top 10 team.
