My son is a 10th grade varsity player at one of those schools, on an academic scholarship. He plays almost none. Our house is 1.2 miles from campus. Son is rocking a 4.1 GPA, and the Catholic bent to the education is a perfect fit for him. He will have a chance to play at the next level (realistically D2/D3 or low level D1 MAYBE), but he may choose a dream school for academics instead. He will play more (slightly) in 11th grade. He loves being part of the team. It's a serious achievement.

TLDR, these kids do not need or want your sympathy. Not everybody wants to be a starter at St. Pallotti or The Heights or wherever, just to make them feel better that "I'm a starter." BTW please tell us what our "neighborhood MIAA-C school" is in Towson. Beth Tfiloh? (again, we're Catholic)... Park School at $42K?

But sure, If there are dads complaining about the choices they helped their kids make for school, they should have been better informed ahead of time, and not been so gullible as to fall head over heels for the "recruiting." I'll give you that.

To each their own. But buyer beware.

My son just went through it. There is a definite difference in recruiting philosophy at these schools.

Seems like the schools with large numbers and that have freshmen teams are recruiting as many kids as possible, just to keep them away from the competition.

The schools without freshmen teams are generally looking for the right type of kids. Specific kids. We stayed close to home and went with a smaller program and it’s been a great experience so far. Didn’t just get a phone call from a coach. We saw him repeatedly at our sons games and we got to know him.

+1

Lots of kids will decide as Sophomores to “focus on….(insert something other than lacrosse).”

Will they leave Spalding for Old Mill or Glen Burnie?

Messaging started this year after the WCAC teams came in and beat the leagues best. Everyone got on the “best league” and the “out of conference games aren’t important” messaging.

Did I see that St. Paul’s lost to SSSA today?

Not bad for a 2A school. They have no competition in their division I’m sure they are grateful for the opportunity to play a great MIAA team.

That’s right. What happened to all the “we play tough games twice a week, back to back? Let’s throw in Kent Island, Broadneck and Severna Park to make it tougher.

Are they? Just beat CH. Win is a win. Add the other loses to DMV teams it seems the MIAA is no longer where you find the best lacrosse.

Hit the wall.

MIAA teams that are brave enough to play WCAC teams all get beat. Then MIAA teams beat each other and make up meaningless rankings. Truth is, MIAA = Mediocre In An Average conference.

This is the weakest SP team in years. Severn won easily while playing basically everyone on the roster, SP ran their 1's the entire game and could not generate any offense and was porous on defense.

Based on game results you are right. BL is probably the best team in the league and they weren’t in game against St. John’s.

Before this year, how many total wins did WCAC teams have over MIAA squads? You could count them on one hand. Congrats on having 1 great team this year. BL would roll anyone else in DC this year and any other year.

Should be a good game and good lacrosse. If you follow the league you know MSJ and JC have played their opponents really tough this year. I applaud both teams for their tenacity. Those are some tough, resilient kids, who have heart. These teams battle hard in this league twice a week. Kudos to both squads.
