In a few years these same clowns will be claiming there are 20 year olds on a 9th grade team. ANYTHING to justify the reason their kids can't make Crab's or one the other top clubs when the simple reality is that some boys don't and will never have the athleticism, size, strength, skill or work ethic to play at the highest level of the sport. All top Clubs in Maryland and frankly now many other areas top clubs are full of holdbacks. That is a Fact ! It is not overblown at all. While you are right in that many kids will never make it no matter what. Lacrosse has a huge amount of 5-8 to 5-11 athletic guys that compete against each other all the way up to 12th grade. Holding back makes a difference for these guys. We arent football, BB , getting the best athletics, we are lacrosse getting the next level down with the occasionally true blue athletic stud ( who doesnt care who is held back, he is better) . If HOCO results are considered, Breakers, Rock, Team91 and Koopers really did not do well. There are Loyola kids on FCA and CHC on Looneys Please...There is CH and there is the rest. FCA into CH; BUYER BEWARE!! Most of these kids will never see the playing field at CH. Example.....JV and FR/So soccer had 108 kids show up for tryouts; 43 kids made those 2 teams. That means 65 kids who I am sure had expectations of playing in HS will not. I wonder if anyone of those parents/kids are having second thoughts? Lacrosse is the same the only difference is there will be more kids seeing the field if you count the sidelines as part of the field. MIAA Schools are where HS athletics dreams end for 95% of kids. His name couldn't even get the team going. 1/2 price for Rock: I know one kid on 2023 that is definitely on "scholarship" with Rock. Some kids from Looney's, Hawks and FCA playing here as a 2nd team, for others this is their only team. If this is their only team, they will not be playing too often. The Atlantic team played in 2 tournaments this year, both being small format national team tournaments, and the Hawks coach will never let the team become a full fledged club team, too many Hawks on the roster. That being said, it is a very good team, but its not that hard to be good when you are aggregating that level of talent. The trend seems to be that tournaments are going to be either biased towards club teams or national teams. For the 2023 level, just look at Naptown vs. Crabfeast, much more of a national team presence at Naptown. Frankly, if I were a club director, unless I have an extremely talented team at a certain age level (2023 Hawks or 91 Crush for example), I'm not sure that I would waste my time playing against the national teams at tournaments like Naptown. I know that it is good for development to play against better talent, but no kid wants to get blown out by a group of national programs all weekend. This is not meant to bash the national team model, my son has played for one, but it is not a great option if it is going to be your only team. As we all know, the most important aspect of lacrosse is quality practice time, other than a last minute pre-tournament practices, you are not getting that at the national level. Your coach could be the best D1 coach out there, but what are you really getting out of 1 or 2 practices. Like Reply Quote

I appreciate the advice but it's been 20+ years since I needed to hit the wall and get noticed. You won't notice me as I'll watch the games with my wife or other reasonable parents. We try and stay away from the crazies that coach their kids from the sidelines and yell at refs or grumble about the coaches or other players if things aren't perfect. When my son does well my heart will swell with pride but I won't brag on a forum or in person. If he struggles it will be up to him to hit the wall or ask his coach for help. Ask again next year in the 2023 group page. The player in question is most likely the age of the other 2022's and a good player. The Loyola 2023 class along with the BL 2023 class are both loaded and will be formidable over the next few years if they all stick together. The Loyola 2023 class along with the BL 2023 class are both loaded and will be formidable over the next few years if they all stick together. The JV team at Loyola is mostly Freshmen across the board so it will be interesting to see them grow together over the next 4 years.. And less than a handful are on age 2023. Hawks has been the best team at this grade for years and they have 5...all great players and deserving. FCA has 10 with maybe 3-4 being deserving. You have to laugh at a process that has multiple FCA coaches involved, one of which is a dad of a player trying out. Not to mention another dad from a different club acting as an evaluator.
