Are/Were there any high school coaches at any tryouts just observing? Isn’t this the year for that? Next summer would be too late. Speaking of that will there be any coaches at any of the fall tournaments? This is for private schools obviously.

Most clubs are going to a password scenario to access rosters. It maybe due to the amount of poaching of players.

That is a shame. Probably should be more poaching. I think most poaching should be from "power" club's 2nd string to other teams. I sense it goes the other way more often however, from "lesser" club best player invited to "big" club team. I would think 2nd midfield on M&D could move over and be first midfield somewhere else, for example.

I think for most it is finding the right fit. Some are content to stay on a "power" club's 2nd team. Sadly, the loyalty the players give to the power club is not reciprocated. The player may even dream of moving up if they just work harder. Sadly, it rarely, if ever happens. The power clubs will always choose an outside player over a player on the second team. Always.

More reason to leave and play more at another club. Almost cult like, the loyalty the 2nd team has to the club. Fear of change? Stockholm syndrome? Not sure. The clubs public face is the A team at any year, that is priority 1thru 9 out of 10. If you are not on the A team or if you are and not seeing significant minutes you should leave. You do not have to sit out a year after you switch.

M&D do not have any elite shooters. Weak shots will cause them to struggle in close games.

TG beat all the MD teams they played, including M&D and Skywalkers. Skywalkers beat Heros and M&D. Heros were beat by M&D. Next to TG, Monsters and Skywalkers were tied for second at the tournament. Looks like the MD girls are not as dominant as the have been in the past. Will be interesting how the fare against the YJ teams this weekend. Skywalkers definitely made a statement!

Irrelevant. You stated Monster rocked MD teams this weekend. They didn’t. They were in fact rocked by SW.

Really? Indoor has nothing to do with how well you will do as a field team in the spring. It’s totally different and it’s all go-to-goals. It’s selfish play. Just stating facts, not judgements.

It's only selfish play if the coaches aren't encouraging passing. Indoor or outdoor you need to move the ball if you don't indoor I'm sure you won't outdoors either

(per team 20 girl team) pushes cost of NGLL to over 2500 per team. Assuming 8 game season each game costs over $600 each to put on? Playoffs are free keep practicing.

There is such demand in this market and the supply is only provided by one entity. Get another league started (like the boys did with the Koopers league to compete with HoCo league) and you may have other (more affordable) options.

The ADDITIONAL cost of $2500. I know things today are dynamic in lacrosse, but in 4 years we have always paid club fees that covered NGLL fees. This is an additional beak-wetting fee.

So what are your picks for this year in 2023 a?
I say the M&D powerhouse will take it all (but I do question some additions at both A & B)
Hero’s used to be a contender but they have been absent from certain tourneys in the last year.
Sky walkers always in flux.
Dark horses may be Elite. All others super dark.
There just isnt enough talent around to stock these teams to beat M&D. They play more and practice more. Reputation alone gets them the best players.
But you only need a few key players to make a difference. Practice practice practice

M&D is the monopoly of travel lacrosse. When there is no competition the sport suffers. I am shocked that another league has not started up already. Parents will abandon their teams in a second if they think their kid can make the black team ( not so much red). There is no chance these other teams will compete. On a good note-it makes no difference in recruiting. If your kid is the top 3-5 on their club they will be set. The rest will be going to lower D1 schools of D2/3 (yes even superstar suzy from M&D or YJ ). I would like to see more competitive games personally. Not sour grapes-my D was one of those 3-5.

An honest answer from a local D1 women's coach..."if you are a good player, schools will find you regardless of who you play for". In this day and age, athletes are being recruited from everywhere. We are lucky to have so much talent in this area so many schools recruit more in this area.

Sky walkers and M & D will be the top 2 teams to beat this season. M & D and Sky Walker's both have very strong mid-fields. Depth is still a concern for both teams IMO. Take the top 3-5 players off the field and they struggle. Elite will be in the mix too but they are falling off. They are just the NEMS 2023 team that should be.

I can't remember the last time Hero's beat M&D in a tourney or NGLL. They are certainly #2 or #3 but M&D is a clear #1. For NGLL, the top 4 teams for playoffs are a lock IMO: M&D, Hero's, Skywalkers, Elite. Should be a battle for the next two spots though.

They are not. The top teams trade wins against each other. M&D, Sky walkers and Hero's games will be close. That is far from saying they are dominant. As these teams get older they tend to have very close games. Watch the 21 M&D vs. 21 Sky walkers. Great games. Nobody dominants.

CT Grizzlies also beat M&D Black in the Indoor National Championships division play and was very good. But to their credit, M&D Black bounced back and took advantage of advancing on a tie-break in a 3-way tie atop their division to go on and win the championship playoff vs. Top Guns.

The NGLL North clearly the stronger division going 5-2-1 in the crossover games this weekend.

Any surprises in NGLL so far?

Have to wait until Sunday for the M&D, Elite face off.

Both teams are full of talent..
Elite is the hometown team! These girls have been together for a long time. They keep the team true and small and everyone breaks a sweat during games and plays- unlike other teams with bloated rosters (hello money grab), tiers of girls who never get real playing time, and teams with girls who are only on the team because the coaches/clubs are too cowardly to cut them because of their schools or families. This increases team size and ruins cohesive engagement within the squad. Some teams who you pay over $2k to play on, have girls who barely know each other.

Yes this sounds bitter but every year I get these same observations from the new parents on the team. I wish I had something else to tell them, as it’s too late in the season by the time they are talking to me.

Everyone wants to play on the winning team so M&D are very strong for that reason.
If you want to dominate in lacrosse you must be able to score points regardless of what everyone says about it’s all teamwork.

More info on Elite team? True and small? Does that mean few new girls each year and low roster number, how many on the team? Elite does not seem to be excelling at other age groups. Is this year just a one off exception? Best girls did not get poached to Skywalkers etc. like other years? Is the formula small roster size + low turnover scalable? Or is this just an outlier that happened to have really good players join all at once and never leave?

Elite is small and losing players each year. Lost to M&D and MD United big. Well coached but losing players.

M&D will also lose players this year. Lots of dissension with coach J. Peak. He micromanages from sidelines and all he does is run ISO’s. He doesn’t develop his players, have seen many good players slide with him. Wins due to talent + relies on same 4 players or so and doesn’t coach to team. Loses In big games, his coaching weaknesses are very obvious. Just watched it happen to him at NGLL. This year he will likely lose several good players, Robinson is too distracted doesn’t have a good pulse on his teams as long as they are “winning.” Watch the trend start to happen.

Look at MD United and Skywalkers this summer - they have much stronger and smarter coaching and are developing their teams and players more broadly.

What's that? The mighty mouthy M&D fell at their own declared National Champion tournament? Monsters owned them. Was not even as close as the final score. I guess little Suzy can't actually, just go to goal, all the time. NY will own the US Nationals and the National (Maryland) Championship. Just finishing what TG can't. What is with the constant screaming from the M&D coach? LOL. Enjoy your day. I know we will (or did).

I have never posted to this forum because it is parents acting like fools. Once again, I read this forum and come across this. I am glad you take joy in 13/14 year old girls lax and a team losing. The Monster / M&D game was a good game, and congrats to Monster for winning the game. The girls (not you) deserved to win. They played hard.

Each team has a parent like you and I suppose you are that parent for Monster. Parents like you are what drives kids out of the sport. Trying to relive your days through your kid. No need to take your jock-strap and throw it on the table to compare sizes. You are a complete joke.

As you state in your post, “The mighty mouthy M&D fell at their own declared National Championship" tournament, is a silly comment. The girls play for M&D, yes, Robinson owns the league, but why would you bash the girls for playing on a team? No girls from M&D proclaimed they were the champions, nor did coaches or parents. The girls lace up their cleats and play each game. There is a winner and a lost. Again, you're a joke.

Congratulations to the 2023 Monster for making the championship game. And congratulations to the 2023 CT Grizzlies for winning the National Championship. See how that works...no need to denigrate 13/14 year old kids. Congratulations to both teams.

WIN WITH GRACE, LOSE WITH DIGNITY

A "winning coach" was not called mighty mouth. M&D is mouthy. You should understand what you read before you get protective. But there was a lot of screaming at players.

Indoor? Stop

Congrats to the CT Grizzlies who showed that Indoor can translate to outdoor as well (I am sure that may be surprising to some message board parents!), as they rolled to the NGLL national title this weekend. The hints were there for teams back in January for those that know lacrosse...

But does he win lots of T-shirts? Sounds like a Coach trying to build a legacy and not trying to build his players. Have seen that several times before and with my oldest. And this is a 23 team? Those girls are not even in HS yet. You should seek shelter elsewhere.

You are talking about a coach who has won 4 NGLL championships and has made it to almost every championship game in every tournament his team has participated in(this is fact). M&D parents are hard on their coaches. If he wasn’t developing them, those parents would be moving on. He left one club, and families from that club, not even in the same grad year, followed him to his new club. He turned around an M&D team that was imploding at the time. None of the players left, he helped them find their niche, now that team is shining, and you ignorantly call him out publicly because he lost a game.

Easy there M&D parent. I could careless about your coach or if he was the Pied Piper of players. That wasn't my point or what I was saying. Sounds like he wins lots of T-shirts and everything is fantastic with your team. Glad your team is "shining" and you all have won 4 NGLL Championships (along with the other "fact" stuff you said). That makes you the best team in Maryland.

I have seen it before. Coaches steam roll middle schools girls talent and spirit all for the sake of victory. But I guess it's not the case here, as you say, he helped them find their niche and are shining.

Too many girls posting to Instagram about staying up til 4 am the days before one of the biggest tourneys of the year. That’s what did them in.
The more I see of these kids on the IG the less I see them dominating. This goes for all teams across the board. Monitor your girls social media and you’ll never know what you may discover!

Well that must stink to play on a team where a great weekend is going 1-2-1. What has happened to the TLC program?

So M&D will show what they are made of by winning the showcase event, G8? That seems logical. That team is struggling and does not look like a team. Lots of grumbling happening. Time will tell if they get better moving forward. Maybe that team has reached their Peak. Skywalkers are the fastest and most athletic overall with a great goalie. Heros was being Heros. Coaching has them playing better and together. You all cant be surprised by that fact.

Heros and M&D will continue to win over all other 23 teams. Skywalkers is ok, but not on that level. Their goalie is ok certainly not great.

Their shine as you call it was a little off. If you were a part of the team, or its families, or it’s club for that matter, you would know why. So stop talking before you really start sounding like an @$$.

Can not be the same coach. The one that has won 4 NGLL champs and made it to every championship game? How is that team niche and shine looking? [/quote]

You're an stunad. You obviously have no idea what that team is going through right now. Or if you do you are a deplorable human being.

I don't understand the meanness on these forums. Can't we just celebrate the fact that these girls are all working towards the same goal, working hard at their sport, and are spending their time doing something productive with their time instead of hanging out and getting in to trouble. All of these teams are good. Some are really strong, others not. But who cares. I don't understand the need to come on here and insult teams, girls, coaches, clubs, etc..

Folks will learn eventually that it just doesn't matter who wins these games. Look at the 2020 and 2021 forums. Hardly anyone even posts on there anymore. This is just parents that feel the need to pound their chests when their kid wins.

Agree m&d and Hero's will continue to win and show well. I believe they are both dealing with injuries to key players, so this speaks to their overall depth. Skywalkers is good, but is not quite there yet.

What does that even mean? One of the dumbest things ever posted. You are trying to make fun of someone that's engage in their kids actions? Stop getting drunk and posting on here. You should be the example first.

I was watching the YJ and M&D black game and YJ coach was yelling something about M&D girls using their butts(so?) he was referring to their sticks they must have been pulling up their stick butts in a defensive manner.

Also can we just call a spade a spade and admit that SW are a cult? Every game warmup in season and at tournaments is observed by all parents. Post game talks are attended by parents. I know it isn’t that much of a common knowledge but don’t the coached ever want the privacy and dignity of holding talks with the girls without parents listening in so they can just get the job done without fear of meddling dads? It look so creepy too. None of the other teams have this happen.

Lol. Sky walkers is a cult because they communicate too their parents. Many conversations happen outside of parents too. Your clueless.

Here is a piece of unsolicited advice for the administration of M&D .... since you don't seem to believe your team parents that are complaining to you -you should come watch every M&D team that has a parent coach in this final tournament. Bring a clipboard and track how much playing time daughters of coaches and assistant coaches are getting. And then ask yourself: Should that player be starting ? And starting every game ? Should that player be in the ENTIRE game ? What are they accomplishing while they are in the game ? Are they scoring or turning the ball over or missing easy shots ? Are they getting consistently burned on defense ? And most importantly - Who is on the bench while they are in the entire game ? Are the girls on the bench players that could be contributing and changing the outcome of the game ? And are the girls sitting on the bench so that the coach's daughter can play either the entire game or 90% of it ? Please take an honest look at those questions.

If you don't - you while keep finding your players at clinics at Skywalkers and Coppermine and at early tryouts at Heros and Skywalkers.

And my unsolicited advice extends to parents from other clubs considering M&D (or any other club team with parent coaches). Go and watch and see what level the daughters of coaches are and where they fall on the roster and then compare that to the amount of playing time they get and what they do while they're playing. Most times you'll be concerned by what you see.

It is always the coaches fault when your kid is not playing right?

Yes...Yes it actually is. That is the coaches job. To prepare and build up all the players, to play. That is called coaching. Otherwise the player should be let go or not on the team, at all. This is not college or a professional sport. The only revenue contributed to a club and the coaches pay, is from players parents. Not from fans of sponsorships.

You're a dolt. In championship tournaments there is not guaranteed playing time. The teams will do what they can to try to win. All teams have different level of talent from top to bottom. Once in high school most the tournaments are showcases and thus every girl should play at least half the game. Saying a player shouldn't be on the team because the coach doesn't play them in a championship tournament is silly. If the parent feels they would be better off somewhere they would play more they should move them. The clubs like M&D expect their coaches to try to win championships when they can.

Why Heros as a organization allows the 23 coaching staff to stay on is mind boggling. Have done nothing but go down hill since they arrived a few years ago..

Yeah, well were was it mention about a championship game? This was about a collective team. Maybe you are the dolt for not being able to comprehend written words.

The original post was to a question on is it the coach's fault if your kid doesn't play and the response was that yes the coach should build up all the kids so that they can play or let them go if they can't.

My reading comprehension is just fine. How's yours?

The last "real" summer tourney has always been MidAtlantic Summer Club Championships. Nationals is a complete money grab and thus many top teams not there. Lax should be over no later than mid-July. Let the girls have a little bit of summer vacation.

LOL Would someone please engage this M&D parent and acknowledge their pick up. I do not think having athletes was ever M&Ds issue. Selfish play is another thing.

Oh please - just get over yourself already.
If you can score a goal a certain way, its going to go in.
If their stars are not all aligned, it doesn't work for them.
Sure, our team lost to them a few times this year, but not by much. I guess we thought that we'd be more impressed, or come away from the game wide-eyed at what just happened.. Their ratio of goals attempted vs scored was way high, lots hit the pipe or just missed. When we played YJ we were much more OK with losing because they hit us like a bear!

So you prefer pummelings over close games. OK.
If YJ hit you like a bear in your loss to them, and you were ok with that, then my guess is M&D missed shots in their game against you because they were playing down to your team’s level. My second guess is they probably paid for playing down to your team’s level at the next practice, with a ton of running and shooting.

They are all yours and enjoy. You get what you brag about. Drama joining drama. Sounds like a fun bonding event. Only so much PT to go around and the position guarantees to jump ship will knock a few M&D players out of their comfortable positions. That says a lot about a coaches lack of ability to develop. I am certain there will be a lot of face smiles while undercutting behinds the scenes.

Brag all you want about being scary good and your showcase victories. I bet the book bags and T-shirts will be amazing.

Say what you want about Heros. They maintain a proper number of field players to achieve what the true objective is...playing, development, and views. And the whole team actually like each other.

TG out coaches M&D. They do not have half the athletes that M&D has. Neither do a lot of teams, but yet...they lose. So be sure to come back and remind us all how much scarier M&D is once the year is over.
