I agreed with your breakdown for the most part, very fair and complimentary post I think that a few minor adjustments are needed IMHO, some aren't from LI. I went by what some teams have done this fall and winter including scrimmages. 1 Turtles- agreed #1 till they lose to a 2017 2 Terp black- size, speed, smart, w/top coaching won a bunch in fall and winter 3 Dukes (pa) - excellent group be ready for a good team from philly 4 Trueblue- they are talented and will win a lot but a little undiscplined 5 91- core been together a few years with good coaching 6 Breakers (MD) - big team with great lax IQ 7 fl$- lots of good players coaching is new from hotshots 8 Terps- well coached, talented, practice with terps black 9 Tri State Black- I never saw them but several have said they can play How can this be an honest opinion? Has anyone seen EVERY ONE of these teams play recently? There has been so much movement in this age group that it is impossible to give an "honest opinion". You put on Tri State Black saying you never saw them but "heard they can play". You put True Blue above teams they have lost to. Terps Black may not even be the same team by June yet, they are the top, above all other teams (other than the Turtles). 91s "core has been together, with good coaching", yet 80% are new players in the past 2 seasons. These boys are getting better, faster, stronger & some are staying where they were. There will be no honesty or accuracy to these rankings @ this point. It is just "one mans opinion", which really means nothing as long as his child is involved Here, here. Totally agree. A lot of experts here opining on teams they haven't seen play recently as full teams/with all of their kids. Let it all play out this summer on the field, rather than here with a few Dads living vicariously through their sons. And to the so-called NJ 2017 club expert above, you really have no idea what you are talking about.

If an athlete is as good AND has the physical maturation of older athletes it is to his/her benefit to play on the older team. Some school districts do not allow it, others do. Some school districts have stronger teams & the younger athlete does not match up, some kids are just that good that they can match up. Every school district/athlete situation is different.

Over zealous parents who don't mind putting their kids in harm's way with bigger, stronger, faster kids? Or - JV/V coaches that see a kid in 7/8 grader that is more talented, bigger, stronger, and/or faster than some JV/V kids. It happens. Not every kid that has or will play up has crazy parents. Back in the day, any kid who might be moved up instantly had a bullseye on him just to have a message sent by the upperclassmen that it wasn't going to be so easy to take somebody's job - both in practice and in games. I don't think things have changed that much in that regard. Its still a collision sport. No one said it would be easy for these kids. Its tough playing with the "big boys"! If they are that good the other athletes on the field know he/she belongs there. It is usually the other parents that have the problem with it.

Let me get this straight...an older player is going to "send a message" to a kid from the same town who may be friends with some of the older players and their families. Back in the day you probably had your school lunch money taken from you !!!! Many town players older and younger play and train together....thats reality..

Anonymous Unregistered A	every town has that try hard bully in the locker room that will resent the upcoming more talented younger player... that why its important that the 8th grade player has some size... but if the 8th grader is big and good- playing up benefits all parties involved - including the below average middle school player that has to play against

Watch the news lately where a couple of geeky track guys hazed a frosh at The Bronx School of Science , so imagine what it is like in a contact sport where these 8th graders are experiencing a one handed check and man ball for the first time. You must have ran track or played tennis in high school.

Go back to 1999/2000 and more recent, not many, however some very good accomplished individuals.

And as far as asking Joe D or Mike C about their 2017 teams playing UP, well there is no need to ask because they DO. And they both WIN while doing it.

If "they" can't get the colleges right what makes you think the HS rankings mean anything. Remember Loyola was not "ranked" heading into last year. These athletes that are being brought up are being brought up because it was well thought out on all sides. BTW, what 8th grader, these days, has not experienced a one handed check or man ball? Each year the talent, training, coaching & desire gets more intense. The time on a lacrosse field against athletes just like them increases. IDK where you live but, the kids in my town respect eachother as athletes. Are there some kids that will feel threatened? Of course but, put it out on the field. The older players on my sons team took them under their wing (some of them were brought up younger also) BTW having a few younger kids being brought up, put a "fire" under their butts to play better! Kumbaya!!

Anonymous Unregistered A	The turtles play 1 year up not 4. And the older teams they play are not turtle caliber. The older teams they choose to play are good or very good not great. So that is not a good argument. If you have to [lacrosse] back to 1999 or 2000 for an example then you lost the argument. Anyone will tell you it is a completely different game now. The starters for places like GC and Manhasset are college bound players. They are equivalent to good travel teams. They are not going to put 13 yr olds with 18 yr olds. It has not happened in the recent past, now or in the near future. As good as some of them might be ....it won't happen. Just go watch these JV teams play. Forget about Varsity.You will then understand. Remember for smaller districts it might be necessary.

You have to be kidding.You would prevent your kid from playing at an appropriate skill level because of fear of bullies.Believe me if the kids being moved up belong there bullying will not be a problem, the kids want to win and if someone will help their team win the kid will be accepted. You may run into issues when a kid is moved up who obviously does not belong such as a kid who has a connected parent which happens on occasion.

Anonymous Unregistered A	I went to the NE 3d cuz we coudn't do the LI one. I thought most of the talent was pretty bad, except 1-2 teams. Munroes son got to play with good poles, and great FO kid, and a couple boarding school teammates which show's they hand picked that team. I found it real odd they all made the team and most of them had this strange tweeting relationship with a grown man and 2017 national evaluator. That's just weird, guy needs to get a life.

For instance during winter indoor ball what is the chance an 8th grade kid would play man up over a 10th grader in a JV game. The older may even threaten the little guy so what makes you think the older guys will not gang up on a younger guy. Watch the news lately where a couple of geeky track guys hazed a frosh at The Bronx School of Science , so imagine what it is like in a contact sport where these 8th graders are experiencing a one handed check and man ball for the first time. You must have ran track or played tennis in high school. Why do you say the "little guy"? Some of the 8th grade kids being brought up are 6' tall. These athletes that are being brought up are being brought up because it was well thought out on all sides. BTW, what 8th grader, these days, has not experienced a one handed check or man ball? Each year the talent, training, coaching & desire gets more intense. The time on a lacrosse field against athletes just like them increases. IDK where you live but, the kids in my town respect eachother as athletes. Are there some kids that will feel threatened? Of course but, put it out on the field. The older players on my sons team took them under their wing (some of them were brought up younger also) BTW having a few younger kids being brought up, put a "fire" under their butts to play better! Kumbaya!! There's no coddling in lacrosse. IF the little darlins can take the physical abuse in JV and Varsity proactices and games then they belong. IF they can't, it was a mistake.

Leave the cut throat stuff to the clubs. The school experience has and always will favor the upperclassmen - especially at the better school programs. Besides, once you start seeing the JV and Varsity practices and games up close, you'll realize that there are lots of talented players in your school that you never knew were there or are actually better than you thought hearing through the grapevine. The little world of 8th grade lax would be very surprised to see how good the talent is ahead of them - that goes for the mighty turds too.

I used to be in the shoes of an 8th grade parent who thought his kid was better than the kids above. Our son had all of the accolades of a great 8th grade laxer. But alas, he now rides the bench waiting his turn behind the very players that we thought our son was better than. And you know what? It's ok, the system works and we underestimated the challenges of moving ahead of the usual pace. Good things come to those who wait. Trust me.

Sounds like a daddy coach who cant protect his sons playing time anymore or the parent of a player who knows a boy 2 years younger than him will take his place. That happens alot when daddy doesnt coach anymore and the team grade program as a whole is given a new perspective (an unbias one)

My experience- My 8th grade son, and others I am sure, is proud to be on the field with his older peers. He was asked to move up and earned the opportunity. He, and I, think he is no better than those above and before him. He appreciates his position and is working his tail off to prove his potential. On day 3 now, each day passes with respect earned and given to each other as teammates. He has a long road ahead, but as previous poster said, a journey, an experience. Just as we posters go back and forth on Brine and 3D this to will go on, as next year when so and so commits "too soon". I say, if your son or mine is there, he deserves it. It is an opportunity, his to seize and turn into his experience and carry out to his ability. Good things come in many ways, patience, assertiveness, hard work, respect and persistence. I live in a big lax town and my son had absolutely no shot at getting moved up to JV, even though he is a very good travel lax player, and honestly I dont think he was ready anyway. Every kid and every circumstance is different. To those kids that got moved up I say good luck, to those who didnt I say be patient your time is coming. Best of luck to all those kids that are now JV players.

Anonymous Unregistered A	3 8th graders in my town were asked to play up to JV by the varsity coach for the first time in many years... 2 big strong kids and 1 average size player but tuff... long story short; one of the big kids failed the NYS standardized stregth, speed and endurance test... so the coaches were forced to send him back to middle school level...
