Horrible coach flat out. Thankfully now the one or two guys that are always touting Florida can put the tank top in and go out and wax the Iroc instead of yapping about that program!!

BC soph should have made the Tewaaraton top 5. She proves every game why she's one of the best in the country.

In a macro-sense the statement is true, but not the near future. Here are two reasons why. The lower grade classes in Long Island towns with strong lacrosse programs are at all time lows. Smaller pools of talent will result in weaker overall players. In addition other traditional Long Island towns are having children age population swings to cultures that are not lacrosse oriented. The combination will have an affect on the overall quality of talent on Long Island.

BC is playing good enough to win it all

After all of the bickering and the week to week meaningless polls here are the Top 8 Teams in the country. Who will advance to The Final Four?

1 - Maryland: Big Ten - Everyones # 1, will face a good Stony Brook Team. Stony Brook could keep it close but in the end MD will pull away.

2 - North Carolina: ACC - Navy is surprise of the tournament but UNC will be too much for them. UNC by 6 or 7 goals.

3 - Penn State: Big Ten - Looking to make it back to back Final Fours. Princeton is battle tested and has a very good goalie along with some depth. Edge goes to lions.

4 - Princeton: Ivy - Left no doubt they are the best iIvy but can they knock off PSU? if they can keep it close early the Tigers could surprise. Defense wins championships, Is Tiger D good enough?

5 - Stony Brook: America East - Looking to advance past the quarter finals for the first time. Good team but not sure they will have enough to pull off the upset.

6 - USC: MPSF - Toss up with BC. Knocking off Florida has to give them a confidence bump.

7 - Boston College: ACC - Toss up with USC. Dominated the Orange and playing well.

8 - Navy: Patriot League - Surprise of the Tourney. Would this be there first Final Four? Go Navy!

Great point. Many people aren't signing up for high priced east coast summer travel at 1st grade and the sport refuses to go to smaller 7v7 to get more kids passing and catching. The sport is being hijacked by the best handful of kids at the younger ages and everyone else is walking away. Such a shame. Hopefully the recruiting change slows the process down and keeps more involved.

On the positive side, outside the top 10 college lacrosse is very average which means there will always be a place for the girls who want to play in college. Our HS has 5 girls committed to play in college without ever playing club because they are exceptional athletes and the sport is really lacking those. Plus with extra programs coming on line college lacrosse outside the top 10 is almost a walk on if you aren't hung up on a little scholarship money

The sport is being hijacked by the best handful of kids at the younger ages and everyone else is walking away. Such a shame. That's what people think about the new programs, that you can just walk on. Spoken like someone who has no idea what they are talking about. Walk on? These new programs are turning people away by the hundreds. The two top travel programs on long island only have about 60% of their 2018 players that are committed to Div1. Don't you think the other 40% want to play. Yes there are a few new programs but lacrosse is being played in more parts of the country. SBU draws Long Island kids because it is a well regarded school that happens to be part of the SUNY system and it has a great program. So it is affordable with little to no scholarship money to NY'ers.

How did these 5 girls on your high school team get seen. I think that might be an exaggeration.

Have you watched any games in the bottom 50 of D1 women's lacrosse? There really isn't much going on. If you don't think there is a talent shortage we are watching two different games. There are lots of very good players but very very few great ones.

And those 40% not committed can play if the want but they might not get a cash offer. Again good players not great

BC vs usc should be a great battle. Crazy to think 3 of top 8 seeds eliminated already !!

Stony Brook has never really gotten the top recruits from LI and will never really get them. That sais JS is excellent at recruiting and I think many time sees the potential in kids that many other top lax programs miss. He also puts kids in a position and a system to succeed. Look at the Ohlmiller sisters (spelling looks wrong), neither were very highly recruited ,KO may be the best offensive player in the country, TO may end up being the rookie of the year in the NCAA. Yes playing the schedule they do helps them in terms of putting up big numbers but still very impressive. While cost and being close to home are majors draws for some kids the top kids get enough money that cost in not as much an issue and many want that full college experience ,awesome campus, great athletics in multiple programs,facilities, nice college town, better weather, etc.

Let's not count out the top D2 programs which offer money and retain their athletes. Some very competitive games were played between NYIT, Pace, Mercy, Adelphi, Le Moyne and LIU Post. Great way to take advantage of undergrad programs

Macro versus micro. Macro a bigger picture. Micro is looking at something specific.

Wasn't the younger sister originally committed to Towson? I believe both girls were recruited quite well. Both eventually stayed local which is always an option. Lets face, both players didn't "fall through the cracks" and Stony Brook scooped them up.

I guess you're referring to Manhasset here? I don't know of any other traditionally strong towns that are experiencing significant changes.

It is great to go to a top lax school
It is far more important to attend a school that will align you with the path for rest of your life

To a certain degree yes. It's not only the traditionally strong but other programs with competitive to less competitive programs. Syosset has a changing cultural population that is not lacrosse oriented. Jericho, a small, well regarded district, while not a lacrosse powerhouse, has actually a referendum to do away with all sports and go to a seven day a week schedule. The rate of population growth in the hispanic cultures far exceeds any other cultural group and is not lacrosse oriented. East Islip's kindergarten class is the smallest in decades yet has the highest hispanic percentage. There are other districts also experiencing this change.

Another issue is Long Island is trending older. The net migration of young, white (I have to say it; it's the demographic of lacrosse) young folks away from Long Island is very high. Young people are not looking to live in an area of high cost; housing, taxes, utilities. This too will have an affect over a period of time.

The real reason "student" comes first is because years ago the NCAA needed to classify athletes as students so they didn't have to pay them, and so the schools can use students pictures and likenesses freely without having to pay them

Spallina is a lock for it if he wants the job. I know for a fact they are talking about it.

He would never move his family off Long Island. You can bet on that!

Would think with many of these schools eliminated for a few weeks if changes were going to be made they either would of been or will very soon

LOL nobody pays that for a sport no one watches. Michigan women's lacrosse doesn't fill the "big house" and its 115,000 seats like football! They get 200 people per game like everyone else. With his side gigs he is making good money. Whoever said he wont leave LI was right.

500K for a Women's lacrosse coach!! Whoa, that's more than the team budget.

Unless you're a parent of a Michigan player or parent of a Michigan recruit, nobody cares about any past, or future coach. This subject is not newsworthy. Lacrosse is a great sport. But will never sell out stadiums. Rarely will you ever see more than friends and family members attending lacrosse games.

Should be a great crowd for the BC v USC game this weekend.
