American Select was very well organized last summer. However, unless you really feel the need to have even more lacrosse after spring and then a summer of tournaments, I'd skip both until the summer after 8th grade. Even at that age, college coaches aren't watching, but it gives the kids a sense of what the competition looks like at an elite level and a chance to play with new kids. A few middle-level players mixed in, but mostly top players at least with Maryland, even having two teams. Your kid will get a chance to see how they're doing and should have a solid coach. Summer after the 7th is not worth it for all but the most die-hard kids that would rather play another lax tournament in 90+ weather rather than do other summer activities. There should be no fear of missing out here. |
