Why are top LI players trying out for Brine? The other regions will be the equivalent of U-15a teams in a beach ball tournament. That thing is a total joke and waste of money. If your kid did Brine I would wonder if it will hurt his lacrosse resume more than help it.

If the process is rigged and they do not select the best kids then good for the boy for calling them out on it.

What is the problem with Brine? Competition was weak. Why does no one tryout? And if selected should we not go?

If the kid is a former Turtle why inject his old team name. Did your wife force you to hyphenate your surname with hers? Tell it like it is...team 91 player.

These tryouts all boil down to the same thing, if the HS coach isn't there to support his players it's very tough to overcome the politics bs.

brine Middle School was an excellent dip your fit in the water and see hour the showcase scene works. 1st time on a big stage for many and a great opportunity to practice presenting yourself

For the HS age this is just not a high enough profile event to be worthwhile vs. the alternatives.

The event is very well run, great facilities, great schedule, great experience - if this is what you are looking for than it is worth it

Also it is probably a bigger deal in the Not Hot Beds where showcase invites are harder to come by

We thought the Brine MD tryout one was a total joke and withdrew from it. If selected I would say save $199 and don't go. I'd rather have my kid get a weekend of rest or do something as a family than go to that. I could not believe the lame turnout and lack of quality kids who showed up. Seems like something is afoul when you see kids from teams in your own state you have never heard of and could not place five kids from teams you would see at tournaments like NSLCA, Balt Showcase or the Adrenaline Cup. This looked like a hit and run money grab and a pretty depressing showing for an elite tryout.

As there is no place for that at an event like this. It is a catch 22. You have the boys go because you don't want to believe the hype that it is rigged. Then when you get or see a short shift for another player who they may be related to it stinks.

BUT YOU (PLAYER/PARENT) NEED TO CARRY YOURSELF WITH RESPECT, THEY ARE LOOKING AT ALL ASPECTS OF THE PLAYER AND OUTBURSTS LIKE THAT CAN BE DONE DIFFERENTLY.

As other poster said it was not the former Turtle who said this but a current Turtle. Several other "high profile" players who people are complaining got cut also were disrespectful and full of themselves. Their high school coach could not help them overcome bad attitude. Below is a quote from the invitation email
"
First off, let me start off by congratulating you on being selected for the 2014 Nassau County Rising Sophomore Team. Remember, you are representing Nassau County Lacrosse, your school and your family. Play with respect and carry yourself appropriately. We will have two practices prior to the showcase game"

Note the emphasis on "carry yourself appropriately" - explains everything. These kids often behave just the same way their parents speak about others on this thread.

Those kids cut themselves.

What weight does this event have other than seeing some good kids play county vs county? The privates were discriminated against by not being allowed in the first place so a true N vs S game doesn't exist. HS coach representing or not.

I disagree, good for the kid not taking sh** from these coaches thinking they're god. All the kids should get the same amout of time on the field.

what about coaches that disrespect the kids. Will they put the kids that play club and not on the coaches summer team on the Suffolk/ Nassau roster, Or cut better players to suit their own agenda.

These players are supposed to be learning sportsmanship and should have class and dignity. The correct salty thing for this kid to do would have been to ask why am I coming out if I just got in? Non answer from coach, ask the question again. Non answer from coach, take your helmet off and walk off. There is a right way to be do it.

Its real life. If you you direct an F-bomb to your boss at work - you will pay the price. Do you think college coaches are going to put up with this behaviour and attitude. These talented boys have got to learn that if they are disrespectful they will not see the field. Their dad's can blame whatever else and suggest whatever coaching agenda they want, the problem on the field in the Nassau tryouts was crystal clear and made onlookers cringe.

Thats not always true. We played a team in early fall from wading river and the coaches cursed at the kids, Grabbed the kids by their helmets and jerseys. The kids looked mortified by their coaches, We didn't see the refs stop the game or stop the coaches. So when is the balance between yelling and bullying going to end with lacrosse and other sports. Bullying doesn't make these kids more talented or stronger....it teaches them how to be cowards and how to disrespect others. the game has evolved but not in a good way.

I was at this tryout and the only cringing going on was when certain players held the ball too much, which was plenty. If players were cut for mouthing off their HS coaches should be made aware. And that isn't the case

Our 2017 plays for a decent team in the Midwest and we were at the Baltimore Summer Kickoff. Same as prior trips up to Baltimore some of our games were competitive and some were not since the teams in the East are really strong. I was very disappointed in the levels of profane and classless behavior by parents in the stands, and what I could hear some of these kids saying on the field. In between those two points are a line of college coaches watching and listening. VLC 2017 and Breakers, nice teams you got there. The rest needs some work in this Mom's opinions. People notice manners, sportsmanship and respect. I realize you have some fancy teams and great players, but I would not want my son playing on your teams or anywhere near your crazy and profane parents. I was embarrassed for you and pray you can do a little better in the future.

Unfortunately not everyone has class or dignity when playing lax or coaching it. Some teams on long island encourage bad behavior, slashing , cursing, dirty hitting with sticks. Some of the coaches have no training, no idea how to coach and no class/dignity.
Just watch shoreham play next time. The coaches yell profanities at their players the entire game. Pitiful at NYLA.

Please stop, i was at the Brine try out last year kids on the did not make field, all of the sudden ended up on the A team. mostly 91 and express kids because of Mule, and Joe, I did not come on here and knock your kids, I simply told my kid that how sports and life work.Clearly this is your first time with no connection and you can't handle it. Sorry to hear that, but I think maybe direct that to the Mid-Atlantic forum as I think Breakers and VLC are not from the northeast. We do have our share of classless parents on L.I. though.

I agree. There is no place for coaches yelling and bullying the kids. Someday one of these kids will videotape these inappropriate tirades and post it on you tube. Then maybe some ADs will be embarassed enough to reign in their coaches.

But parents can and should expect their children to remain respectful on the field - and if their children are not and are "kicked to the curb" because of it they need to own that and stop blaming other factors.

We have some real winners here on Long Island too. Ive seen plenty of Long Island parents running to other regions when little Joey boombats didn't make Brine or UA. That's not limited to Maryland, its everywhere

I pity the NCAA coaches recruiting 2017 kids and families. Needy emails, voice mails, psycho Dads showing up at the coaches offices family therapy when the kid doesn't see the field in college. Yup. I hope the pay is good because these college coaches will have two jobs. Coaching a team and managing this mess of needy kids and their parents to manage. Whether college coaches want to admit it, they are signed up for both.

Long Island parent here... you are right. it is a pressure cooker here.
no excuses for classless behavior - but consider this:

when you take over taxed long islanders, in a bad economy, trying to pay for expensive training, club teams, showcase camps, time away from work, every weekend of summer on searing hot fields...

only for the desperate hope that your son or daughter can get a better education, and or scholarship money... so they don't have to struggle in the same way.

Long Island Lax is NO Longer considered the noval sport of choice for the wealthy elite. Long Island Lax is main steam! Much larger pools of athletes, more pressure to stay competitive...

Can contributors agree with the LI Lax dynamics?
