my kid plays for a team that won’t be fielding a WSYL roster. He is bummed and has been looking forward to playing for a long time.
Besides true are there any other teams around here that might try to play? Hawks Madlax could probably use some on age players The top three 2027 teams in HoCo (NextLevel, Hawks, and MadLax) are loaded with holdbacks. You would be hard pressed to field a world series team combining all three, which is probably why none of them are participating. Not a complaint, just a fact. Not entirely accurate. NL has a handful, Hawks fewer than you think, but Madlax may only have 2-3 on age.

If Hawks wanted to play I would imagine they could do what the 26s did last year and pull kids up from the 28s. I don’t think they want to enter the tournament.

You definitely are wrong about MadLax, because they posted a preliminary world series roster online, and 10 or 11 of their regular 2027s were listed, not 2-3. Your estimate on NextLevel is equally off base. I honestly don't know about the Hawks.

Only team i know from this area playing WSYL at this age is True.
It’s crazy how whenever the focus shifts to aged based lacrosse everyone around here suddenly has something else to do that day. Last year and years before they were hundreds of area kids participating. So your statement doesn't hold water. Has any area team ever won or come close to winning ? No. Black ops placed 4th last year and that was a super team made up of multiple clubs and hawks placed 6th. Most WSYL teams are "super teams" made for that tournament. Express normally is an all LI team, is an all tristate area team for the WSYL.

I think that if the better teams in the area wanted to take WSYL seriously they would and could.
The problem is as, alluded to earlier it would require exposing how old the teams are at the 26, 27 and 28 levels.
It seems teams and parents would rather keep operating under a shroud of age secrecy (which isn’t a secret btw; the kids know how old each other are) than play in what should be the most fun and equitable tournament around.

The Germantown venue was a big dropoff from Denver along with poor planning at the dinner venue; the organizers were really late in getting the word out and the web site really only came together about a month ago; the qualifier competition slots were taken quickly by really bad teams leaving a really bad quality tourney; the organizers made an intial stink about the super teams and then backed off but way too late; and the organizers didn't take into account HoCo for some reason.

That venue was awesome. The fields were immaculate. 2. Banquet was terrible. Way too many people and body by Jake was being a self promoting jack butt and wouldn’t shut his pie hole. 3. The quality of teams at the tourney was very good. There will always be some lower quality teams from out west and down south but the final 8 teams were all legit. 4. The only super team that made any noise in the 13U division was black ops. That team should have not been allowed to enter. All in all a very good event with a level playing field.

Have a great spring, everyone. If my son is interested, do I just reach out to the clubs? Yes. Most have Instagram pages or websites. They will probably give him a couple practices to get a look, and then let you know if he’s what they are looking for. All of the clubs listed are decent programs with good, lacrosse people. if your son is looking to upgrade from his current situations they would probably be good places to go. And if it’s not a fit, those clubsmight be able to recommend someplace else. Good luck.

How does someone know what these 27 teams are looking for. All the teams listed are looking for athletes. Everybody needs middies in youth lacrosse.

Anyone else notice SCHWARTZBERG, RICKY J. the head of PLC was charged with a felony in embezzlement? I don't know how many teams are there but it seems very disappointing someone can take people for such a ride.

There's always SMYLA and WMYLA. But if you took one look at the competition, rules, locations, costs... you'd have a pretty good understanding of why. There's just not enough room or interest for 2 sets of competition rules.

Embarrassing for the region - so much lacrosse history yet we can’t field teams to play one age based tournament. It’s a crappy, rehash, cash grab of a tourney anyway. We’ll keep feeding the MIAA and colleges across the country.

Both hawks and Madlax have played before. I’m not a parent of neither team but given the HoCo schedule and the way it was Theron together it’s not really conducive to participate in. You are kidding right? Most holdback centric teams thoughtfully scheduled to avoid the World Series. I honestly don’t blame them as there is no good reason for holdback centric teams to ever compete on age in this sport today. And getting out of the way to let their on age kids compete in the event somehow is just not worth the time and effort of club owners. So much easier for holdback centric club owners to badmouth the World Series or better yet create a very competitive money making event that conflicts with the World Series. No one is going to change this reality unless youth lacrosse moves to age based.

Club directors absolutely schedule to duck the WSYL. Not just to avoid playing on age but also to avoid their on age players playing with another team and risking losing that player altogether. Smart business to wrap up their best players.

When does Hoco make their decisions about who gets placed in what division? The initial alignments should be leaked this week. Then depending on pushback from coaches there will be some adjustments made after the upcoming spring tournaments.
