What's with Empire results, only 16 boys? Is that all that tried out?

Start looking at plan B, especially if the H.S. team is weak.

Express CoachC cut their roster for AA. Did not invite some players back so they could focus on getting the right players recruited.

Well, it should been that way for a very long time! Unfair to all but Coach C. Don't take a player if you are not willing to play them? Where did the player's go?

I don't know why any kid would want to be on a team where he doesn't play and why any parent would pay for their kid to have that experience. You don't have fun or get any better by sitting on the bench and based on what I've seen of the Coach C 2022 team over the past year or two it looks like more than a few had that experience. So now these kids that have been cut will either be put on other Express teams or find new clubs, but will have lost 1-2 years worth of summer fun and skill development in the process. Can't blame it all on Coach C.

1000% on the parents.

I don't know how many people have noticed but their is a new trend going on! As we all know 2022 is probably the most talented year to date! But I guess the high school coaches are tired of playing second fiddle to the kids travel teams or to cash in on the strong island green! Starting their own clubs or town travel teams! But beware, they will take the best kids from the first year tryouts to establish the club, then dump the out of town kids for their own school kids! These coaches are much worse for the sport then the travel team mafia!

Correct.....Parents with deep pockets and/or overzealous big mouths are to blame. Say what you want about Coach C but I sure he told them they would not play.

Coach C has a huge role in this too, he should have done the right thing by these kids. Instead, he lined his pockets. He created the opportunity and situation for the parents to make the wrong choice. If he did the right thing, he could have had a very good B team (ex. United, Igloo) over the years. But he could care less and put zero effort into the money making B,C ,D teams he has had over the years.

I do disagree about player development though, the lower half of Coach C's team had almost year round practice and those players got to practice with extremely talent players. And if you have ever been to the practices, they are high level, high energy, well organized practices. These players received 3 times the coaching time, practices, scrimmages and tourneys than the B,C,D teams did for the same tuition.

Agreed about practices. However, the kid has to play...for game situation experience, exposure if they want to get recruited, and most importantly for the fun of it and confidence factors. Nevermind getting your moneys worth travelling to Maryland and actually watching them play!!!

The kid can get great practices on the travel club, and then start on their high school team and go to showcases with their high school team. The high school coach will promote the kid more than the club.

Vast majority of players get recruited from club not high school teams. Unless you kid is playing in the top 15 high schools in the nation, club is their best opportunity.

Hard to imagine that the kid would make the decision to sacrifice playing so that he can practice with a AA team. Just doesn;t sound like something that would come out of a 15 year old......a 30+ father yes, 15 no.

Not true. I've seen our varsity coach help a lot of kids in our school district get into top D1 and D3 schools. We're not top 15 in the country.

If by reading all this negative garbage you can’t see the problem, you’re probably a big part of it.

Agreed. Pathetic that of the three things listed, recruiting was what was talked about and nothing about the fun and confidence building of the kid. Confidence carries across all aspects of life. Where they played....after they graduated college....eh. pathetic.

Yes.....we should ban the talk about any recruiting of any kind, by anyone on a lacrosse forum thread dedicated to the most important recruiting year of a lacrosse players career. OK got it.

If your son is good enough it is the college coaches job to find them. Summer travel is a joke but is used to compete and develop. If you are not on a top team maybe your organization gets into a few tournaments where college coaches attend and your son is seen. I have been here and navigated the process( 3 sport athlete going to top 3 college team in country).
Go to college prospect camps
Under armour tryouts - making team is political but tryout is the exposure ( top 50 main field is goal)
Nassau/suffolk hs tryout is cheap and great exposure-
If this is what your son wants he will find a home, Like earlier poster said enjoy the moment not the recruitment. Time flys

Question? If you missed tryouts for travel what are the chances of getting your kid on a team from now untail spring?

You can still make a team. Not sure where you reside but the LI Outlaws are holding supplemental tryouts still while others just passed but more than likely, they have openings. You should email BOTC as they would know which teams are still looking for spots.

You are kidding yourself if you think it is for the worse. or a travel coach director!

The best travel teams have HS coaches for directors and coaches.

These players received 3 times the coaching time, practices, scrimmages and tourneys than the B,C,D teams did for the same tuition.

I have been on the other side of this. My son was a very good but not great player. He was on the top for a bit, then came word he was top team worthy and could have been on the team but wouldnt see much playing time. If I am the only one that happened to then he will know who I am. But Id be hard pressed that I was the only one. I was even told if my son went on the second team it would be a strong team and he would get lots of playing time. My/our egos had us leaving for another start up (not a bad move for us) and played for him at SA. My kid loves him and when he sees him actually gets a handshake and hug from the germaphobe (rare - I may have tipped my hand).

I know a few others players this had also happen to through the years. It hurts but dont blame C. He is strange bird but who isnt and again my kid loved him. That is what matters.

Open your minds and eyes you may see differently.

I like the HS coach trying to gather players to play this is good when you have a good core if not it may not work. It also may not work if your school did have any noteworthy players or HS coach has to have a connect to the college coaches and coaches in their division. Some of the older HS coaches have gotta go and put themselves out there and go to these coaches clinics and be seen and heard. or just get out of the way and let the new guy come in.

That's fine if you have a good lax program in your school but if your have a poor program especially out on the east end then we rely a lot on travel! So it's like making a deal with the devil! All directors of travel clubs are liars, cheats and theives! But the worst one are the school coaches that hide behind that ( I'm your school coach johnny and I'll do the right thing for you and the team)!

No doubt that unless you either attend (usually by invite) to the most highly reputable individual showcases, that there is where you your child will get greater exposure. But at the same time, coaches all talk and have a pretty good consensus of the 'elite' players out there which is typically seen on the club market. Unless you play at a perennial power HS program like Garden City, those few players will then get seen at the County Finals, Long Island Championships & then States bc they are no longer attending regular season games....way more efficient for the coaches vs seeing 1-3 d1 prospects at a HS game.

Back to club, you don't have to play for Legacy, Express, etc to be seen - i know that 365 Lax has recruiting teams as does the Sting & Sweetlax 6and they offer the option to play in 1-4 invite only/highly reputable team showcases so you can play on a club team or not and can play it they invite/select you. But you have to be proactive and do indiv showcases/prospect days and not play on a school team IF you are looking to get recruited [at the D1 level] and i am pro town teams so they can build chemistry & cohesiveness for their upcoming season, just not for recruiting...too much disparity in merit and lack of wttending the 'top' team showcases.

Lastly, for those thinking these HS coaches being greedy doing their own team, they can make as much coaching as a lotnof these clubs offer HS coaches with good traction good salaries. At the end of the day, they are pproviding a service and hopefully do have the players best interest. And not all directors/owners are thieves - some over priced for sure snd hsbe 3+ teams at every age without bscking it with the appropriate staff but I've had experiences with a bunch and some really do care....do your homework & dont continue supporting the bad ones bc of the misconception you wont get recruited without them.

Hope this helps some out there. This is just my opinion based on my experience.

Real Question - I have been getting a bunch of emails about College Prospect Camps, for parents that have gone through this before is this a good way to be really seen by those coach's or is it just another money grab? Thanks.

Prospect days are a money maker. If its a school your son likes, and is withing his reach athletically and academically, then go.

Only if you are an extremely talented player from a non-hotbed area/program. If you are an extremely talented player in a hotbed area that plays with a well known program and interested in their school, then they know who you are. In any case, none of it matter unless you are a standout talent/athlete. It is rare that someone gets recruited for a decent D1 program out of their prospect camp or as a result of what they do there.

Only if you are an extremely talented player from a non-hotbed area/program. If you are an extremely talented player in a hotbed area that plays with a well known program and interested in their school, then they know who you are. In any case, none of it matter unless you are a standout talent/athlete. It is rare that someone gets recruited for a decent D1 program out of their prospect camp or as a result of what they do there.

mmm, my son was recruited from a prospect camp. The coach liked him, he had very good grades and then the staff saw him play again at a showcase.

Really, College coaches know the 2022 athletes? Besides the few top players from 91/Express/St A/Cham how would they know them at this point? I been to tournaments this past summer and as soon as the 2022 take the field the coach's pack up and leave.

It's only kinda correct for the top 10 D1 schools. However, there are hundreds of other colleges that have lacrosse programs in case you don't know. Look up D2, D3, and MCLA

Don't need to, I am fully aware of the number of lacrosse programs out there. My point is if you are not a SPECIFIC invite to a Prospect day the chances are not great that you are going to wow the staff. Been there done that. Know it, coaches send specific invites to players they want. Funny, because just today I received an email from Bucknell about their Prospect Day, my son graduated two years ago.

The 22's can't even talk to a coach nor can any coach talk to the kids yet so what exactly are you wasting your time going for? So they remember your kids next year? Enough with that stupidity.

I guess you don't know how it works.....Coaches can talk to your son's club coach or HS coach. Restrictions only apply to D1

That is 100% correct. Applies to D2 as well. D3 is different.

If they're not recruited by Senior, then PG and go to showcases as a Junior.

If you not playing in competitive events where there is showcase opportunities, what are you doing? Otherwise it equates to a 10th year of PAL. That makes no sense to play a tourney to play at this stage of the game.

Did you tools ever think that some kids just enjoy playing the game. My non-holdback late birthday son who hasn't even turned 15 yet and has no desire to play in college enjoys playing lacrosse. If it gets him out of the house, off the computers and phones and he doesn't have the pressure of parents like you two, then so be it if its a "10th year of PAL". I guess he shouldn't have played CYO basketball either, right? probably just a waste of time. Forget the friendships that are made and sportsmanship that is learned if its not getting you looked at by college coaches.

These statements are exactly what is wrong with youth sports today. Enjoy that quarter scholarship your kid may get.

Nobody in their right mind pays 3 to 6 grand a year so their 10th grader can have fun! They play travel at this age to help with the college recruiting process! If you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch! These kids got nothing out of playing in this tourne!

Not everyone pays that much to play in a low level club team. If they do, then, yes, it sounds crazy.

I agree the tourney was terrible but that is an issue with YOUR club putting your child in that tourney. Nothing more or less. Your club knew it was a weak tourney.....just look at the competition.

Personally, fall ball is kinda of a waste. Its football and soccer season, let them have a few months off. Going 7 days a week is plain dense, unfortunately its the money model that our kids live in.

Couldn't agree more with this sentiment.
I always find it quite sad when a kid announces his lacrosse committment to some terrible D1 or D3 school. As if his parents are so focused on the status symbol of "committing" they don't really care about the quality of the school he's going to.

Its equivalent to the mid-life crisis sports car these guys are probably buying.

I'll save you guys the hassle of replying...Yes I'll have my son hit the wall. Big dog, get of the porch, etc...insert any meathead catch phrase that is routinely entered on this board when somebody had a "let the kids have fun" viewpoint.

This is beyond true, played a very clean game, Rebels dominated this game. Express had two flags down before fight broke, express kid starts fight and continued to try and fight after game was ended.

Here is the short version of it. It was actually a good lacrosse game before the fight. Rebels were very chippy leading up to the fight. They kept pushing Express players after the whistle, coaches were yelling at refs, other coaches, usual outlaws/rebels tactics, etc.

Express players strips Rebel player and recovers the ball and moves the ball and then they were hit from behind. Penalty was called on Rebels and after were trying to get in the face of Express player until after pushing the express player, well after the whistle was blown, then a teammate pushed back and whooped some A@@. That is all that happened. Moral of the story if the Rebels played the game clean none of this would have happened. Also blame should be put on officials for not controlling the game and letting it get out of control.

Yes they did win the game BUT in fairness to Express the refs stopped the game so Express didnt have a chance to see if they could come back

Rebels came into a game with something to prove after losing first game pretty bad.

Express wasn’t ready for physicality or the score, they lost their cool... simple as that.

It’s amazing every time rebels have success, the Brennan bashing immediately begins. If you actually knew the Brennan’s you would know they are great people... my family actually just dropped off a thanksgiving basket as part of their efforts to feed the homeless during the holiday, what have you done lately? (Besides bash prepubescent kids on an anonymous forum)

People should be excited that the rebels are breaking the same mold that has been around for years and everyone complains about.... I guess it’s as simple as some people on this board are simply jealous of any program, or any family that has success. Go back to your hole

1 time thing? Answer this question...how many fights did express have last year and how many were started by same attackmen? You are most likely going to have to use both hands to count those fingers.

If you knew anything about Coach C he does NOT condone or tolerate this behavior! The team was reprimanded and an email was sent out saying the same ! It was a one time incident for both teams so LETS MOVE ON !

Lets not tarnish the image boys!

Coach C never says a word about overly aggressive until the refs step in.

But the kid can score, so he will continue to be an asset to Coach C and play.

You obviously dont play on Express ! He came in after the fight broke out it really had nothing to do with him, that was the problem. He was sticking up for his player, if you know the Rebels/Outlaws history thats where the problem is!!!!

So answer the original question then. How many fights has express had in the last year? If you are on express, and I assume you are, you know the answer. Common denominator in all those incidents is....

Doesn’t matter. Bottom line no denies rebel/outlaw kid started the fight. The attackman came in and finished it amongst others.

None of this matters because if they ever get on the field together again it won’t even be a close score. Look at the history on that one...

Smash is really a 2021/2022 team. And they are extremely overrated. Very average when the older kid doesn't show.

Smash a 2021/2022 team? Too funny. Only a mediocre team when the oldest player is not there? Ask Express C and Igloo what happened over the summer on LI when they were fully stocked and Smash played without "older kid". 15-2 over Igloo and 10-4 over Exp C
So you people know there are a ton of kids older in 2022 than this young man but nobody says a thing about that because they are decent players at best. Why doesn't anyone have anything to say when he is playing up on 2020?
Get over it and enjoy the game

I will leave it at this. The Express team is a very good team with a few holes. If they are at full strength they can run with any team in the country at the 2022 level. I have no clue why people are always bashing the team and the coach, if you don't like either of them, don't play for them!!!!

Team 91 MD 2022 has been the most consistent and impressive team this Fall. One weekend they dominated Hawks and MadLax, the next they beat Express by nearly double digits and also Primetime. Throw in a tie to FCA after sleepwalking through the first half and that's a pretty good 5 games.

Didn't they beat the Hawks in a one goal game after trailing most of the contest. No doubt a very strong team but far from being dominant.

Express team if proof all you need to have a AA team is three or four stud players that play as a unit! Just like smash, take away a couple of players and their just average!

Yeah, a lot to size as well. The undersized middies probably won’t see a lot of field time.

I stand corrected. It was a one goal game, but 91 led most of the way I believe and by several goals. All good teams, but I thought in that two week stretch, 91 was the best I saw. Who knows who was missing players and who was full strength. Good Lax all around.

If your kid goes to a big school with a great lax program he has a really good shot at getting a ride through school. But if your school program is weak travel is the next best thing! My son has been playing travel since 1st grade and things have changed dramatically in the last few years for the worse! Their are so many clubs now these club teams have no depth. Most of the time the top players are also top players in other sports so if they don't show for a tourne the teams really breaks down! At this age I don't think it matters if your on a top AA team or a B team, as long as he gets seen!

I’ll disagree. The coaches will more often watch the good teams at team showcases. They won’t be lining up for B teams, sorry. I am speaking from experience. That’s why it’s up to club to play the best competition without getting blown out. And don’t make highlight film vs below average competition. The coach looks at the player and who the player is competing against. As for HS, yes, they’ll go to the better games.

Things have really changed in that part of lacrosse! If your kid is a late bloomer it’s a problem. My son tried out for several clubs in July and they said he was to small! In three months he grew 7 inches and put on twenty pounds and filled in at one of the fall tourneys and dominated!

Have your son do a one year PG and have him tryout for another club team next summer. He'll get noticed.

Yes, they will communicate with one of the players coaches, be it club or HS. They will communicate as much as they are willing to discuss, up to making an unofficial offer.

Kinda typical for those teams once HS comes. Usually the roster in 7th grade, is the mostly the same in 10th, because the roster adds aren’t good enough to play on that level.

Wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility they ask you to come down to a practice

Agreed, prospect days are the best bang for your buck. That, and the NYS Regional Games for sure. If your kid is good he'll be seen.

Fair enough, but it's tough to argue the exposure. First round, Top 50 Game & the Nassau/Suffolk game are packed with college coaches. Plus, if your HS coach is doing his job he'll be networking on your son's behalf based on the schools that your son is interested in.

I have a quick question. I’m looking at some of these travel teams. How does 91 smash have a goalie who lives in Massachusetts? I also noticed that the Wolfpack goalie was form North Carolina. Do these kids never go to practice and just show up for tourneys?

Smash also has an attackmen from upstate NY. A goalie from North Carolina. You can keep going with these teams. CoachC has players from Indiana, Florida and Texas. They call themselves LI teams, but really they are national teams. Anything to win, right? Pathetic.

travel lax is starting to flounder because the system is tainted! It’s a business and they want the biggest and best, winning teams draw the money but if your kid is okay or a late bloomer your just paying the tab for the club. This is not what they preach but this reality!

Gotcha. But they obviously can’t practice with the team. So they don’t practice with the team all year and then show up for tournament season ??

At this stage, this summer, fall and next summer is the time. It should be just being on a competitively built team. Tournament wins don’t mean anything any longer. If your son is on a team that was not competitive in the fall, you are wasting time money. Unless, your son just likes playing and enjoys the game and doesn’t care about recruiting, which is all good. If your sons team is focused on recruiting and is playing in showcase events this summer, you must compete. Coaches will watch the more competitive games more closely. Also, find a team where you maximize playing team.

With showcases and prospect days you don’t even need travel! Play school and do the rest on your own and save a ton of money. The amount of kids getting looks playing travel is small, don’t get stunk in by the travel club sh-heads!

You can been seen at any school you want. Go to a prospect day and if your son has a good showing and has true interest in the school, send a follow up email to the coaches. And even if they don’t respond, and it’s after Sept 1, follow up again with film either way.. Also don’t be shy to ask your HS or Club to email the coach as well. If still nothing, focus on other options, but stay active. A coach mentioned to us at a recent prospect day, that he watches less than a minute of your sons highlights. He recommended keeping the film under 3 minutes with the best stuff first. He also said be mindful of the music. And most importantly be sure to show real interest in the school, coaches want to know that. Take it or not, just sharing some my experiences.

It doesn't really matter because some of the kids will not get into any significant academic college. They'll wind up working for my son at a fraction of the pay scale. But hey, they were great in High School! SMH

Any thoughts about "Run with the Best" Showcase on 5/30 at Stony Brook?

Is it worth the $250 entry fee?

Thanks for any insight!

I would invest in prospect days. The run is better and the coaches see every kid. Team showcases sometimes aren’t good based on the team. Get on a team without a true fogo and it stinks.

not easy at all - there is a website that shows what it involves - State of NY Athletic Placement Process. It is definitely a process. begins with formal correspondence between parent and athletic director (and it is all expedited at their convenience), permissions, physical maturation test, coaches evaluation, physical fitness test, try out evaluations, etc. The process takes months. hope this helps

The order applies to people who are still here after Sunday so no quarantining necessary. Stop drinking the Cuomo cool aid and mind your own business

Believe me, the county will find out who the people are traveling to Tennessee. There isn't a problem going there or coming back, but upon coming back families will be required to do certain things. And don't let them find out it's certain COACHES. County is preparing to drop the hammer on clubs having practices at this point. Look out

Okay, how much will you spend on legal fees defending this statement. Better yet, ask the club director to help offset the cost. After reading your post containing many misspelled words, you don't stand a chance. Open up a dictionary!

https://abc7ny.com/new-jersey-quarantine-nj-states-yorkers-returning-home/6284542/

Wednesday, July 1, 2020 10:49AM

NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have doubled the number of states for incoming travelers to undertake a 14-day quarantine.

Eight states have recently been added to the list that now stands at 16, including California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Tennessee.

The other states on that list were announced last Wednesday are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

Under the travel advisory, individuals traveling to or returning to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut from states with increasing rates of COVID-19 are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days. This includes travel by train, bus, car, plane and any other method of transportation, officials said.

The 14-day quarantine travel advisory applies to travel from states identified as those that have a positive COVID-19 test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or have a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average, officials said.

The self-quarantine is voluntary, but compliance is expected.

According to officials, the advisory does not apply to any individual passing through designated states for a limited duration through the course of travel. Examples include: stopping at rest stops for vehicles, buses, and/or trains; or layovers for air travel, bus travel, or train travel.

Individuals who are traveling to New York, New Jersey or Connecticut from impacted states for business are exempt.

The travel quarantine announced on June 24 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo applies to everyone entering the Tri-State region, including New Yorkers returning home from elsewhere.

Washington was also on the list initially, but the state was removed last Wednesday night after New York officials reviewed the state's data, saying, "There was a temporary discrepancy with Washington State's reporting, however, they have since corrected it and we have removed them from the list of states under travel advisory."

The quarantine list is based on a formula. If the states have ten positive cases per 100,000 residents, or if 10 percent of their total population is infected, states can be added or taken off the list.

This is what has been predicted from the beginning, that there would be a rolling curve with different areas of the country being impacted at different times.

The question on many people's minds now is, how will this be enforced?

The three governors are relying on people to report others who violate the quarantine.

On ABC's Good Morning America last week, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont described the approach his state is taking.

"What we're going to do is go to every travel agent and say, 'From these regions don't come to Connecticut unless you get tested first or know you have to quarantine,'" said Lamont. "We're going to go to all the hotels, every single site there, let people know from those states you have to quarantine if you come to Connecticut."

Lamont said the state is stopping short of imposing fines for violations, but will ramp up penalties if necessary.

If you're caught in violation in New York, on the other hand, you will face mandatory quarantine and thousands of dollars in fines.

"It's only for the simple reason that we worked very hard to get the viral transmission rate down," said Gov. Andrew Cuomo. "We don't want to see it go up, because a lot of people come into this region, and they could literally bring the infection with them. It wouldn't be malicious or malevolent but it would still be real."

Because of the high number of cases in the United States, the European Union is considering a temporary ban on American tourists.
The ban would also include those traveling from Brazil and Russia.

The E.U. issued a statement saying in part, "restrictions should remain in place for countries whose situation is worse than in the E.U."

When it comes to those wanting to travel to the Tri-State area after visiting any of the eight states currently on the quarantine list, the governors say there is a simple solution: get a test once returning to find out if you've been exposed.

I just find this very rich:

1. Club lacrosse can play all day in Delaware this summer.
2. However, in Delaware: "Practices, scrimmages, and competitions are allowed in all DIAA-sanctioned sports with the exceptions of football, boys lacrosse, and wrestling." (see link below)

So, if you pay to play lacrosse that generates $$ for state then it is OK. Apparently, no COVID risk. I guess the $$s protects you. If you just play in HS, it is just too risky.

One coach was just fined on Tuesday. Had his team on a county field in the evening.

I know the kid (family) who plays for the coach. The parents were also given fines. It's over people!

Didn’t happen according to Suffolk County Executive’s office. Peddle your lies somewhere else.

Since facts matter here on BOTC please inform us of the organization/ team and the county field they were using. Gotta be careful foul of all that “fake news” out there.
