Who cares, fall ball means nothing. My 9th grader started for his Varsity team yesterday. There is no way he will even make Varisty when the whole squad shows up.

Yeah HHHW is awesome because they beat the 6 Roslyn players who showed, and the 5 9th graders that HHHW sent over.

Does anyone know the history of why Section VIII and XI must play each other to advance to the state tournament? It seems grossly unfair to limit our sections from only advancing one team each year when it could be argued that in some years, they both might be the best two teams in the state, and in others, they both may have been better than many other teams that advanced.

I believe it just simple geography. We are close to Nassau.

In '79 I know CSH and Sachem met in the State Final, so at some point after that. 1986 Was the first year the tournament was broken into "A" and "B" classes I believe. The format changed at some point between those years I believe.

I would say that it has everything to do with travel and time away from school. With finals, AP ect. imagine if they seeded the tournament and you were a team from western NY and you played Suffolk in the first round went home and had to come back three days later to play Nassau and go home and come back and play a State Championship at Hofstra all while finals and testing were going on.

Really - you want to compare Orchard Park to Pittsfield and Orchard Park to Ward Melville? you are talking the difference between missing two days of school, taking a coach bus and staying overnight in a hotel vs. leaving school a little early and taking a school bus. not to mention the families and friends not being able to go to the games or making huge sacrifices to go. And imagine the reaction when your school district says you might need to layout $150 - $200 for your kid to play in a quarter final game. The make pairings in D1 opening games based on travel distances I think doing it in HS makes total sense.

Then they should have won when they had the chance. Most disappointing teams in recent memory. That is why they play the games.

They may not have won a state title, but they certainly had a few years getting the greatest number of boys into high-level programs (Academic and Athletic), with big-time scholarships....which in the long run would be far more important. Three straight years with #1players in the County. Not too shabby!

Doesn't matter the order, you have win them all to get the ring. Would it feel better to lose the game in the Championship of the State tournament as opposed to the first round?? I don't think so. Every year that Cold Spring Harbor has won the Nassau County Championship they have either gone on to win the State tournament or lost to the eventual champion along the way (out of Suffolk). Every year. No complaints. If you can win the island, you have no business playing for the State championship.

In 2014, Massapequa has a cake walk to the state championship after their only tough game against Smithtown E. That's not to take anything away from Massapequa.

The order does matter. Not everyone wins the title. Some eams are proud making the playoffs. Some are ecstatic winning a first round game. If your not one of the select few programs, making the county semifinals or finals is a great year. If the true state championship is played to get off the island, the loser should be a stAte finalist. Not just a section champ.

You win your county, the next goal is the State. No one cares about the games in between for--they are part of the road.

The first brackets beyond county (section) could be more regional - there is no reason why Nassau & Suffolk can't be in a regional bracket that includes Sections 1 and 9. Games to the northern reaches of 1 and 9 are 3 hours or less and do not require overnight stays.

The order certainly matters. Section has a cake walk every year. They play the better sections at the very end of the bracket when they are battered, while they play patsies. Order matters.

I can tell you from 100% first hand experience that this is patently false.....in fact I think the exact opposite may be true....so you sound foolish...If you want to name the kid do it...and Ill tell you how the coaches voted to shut you up....and dont hide behind the "hes a kid" excuse because youve basically outed him anyway so be a man (or a woman) and tell us who youre talking about that got undeserved awards
