Isn't this particular forum 2022? You're talking about 2023.

BLC ends at 7th Grade and DCE starts at 8th grade so your scenario would never happen.

Crazy world of lacrosse. Generally similar things happen in other sports like this at the High School level..not Youth..

If the kids are given the choice between playing for D.C. Express and reclassing or MD Xtreme and staying on age, they are choosing to reclassing.

Are there any good box lacrosse programs anywhere in Maryland? I can't seem to find one on line.

A number left because they did not want to play for coach of 2022 Crabs. His shtick worked 4 or 5 years ago when Crabs was only game in town but now with a number of strong programs in the area kids/families have other options and don't have to put up with that....

Looks like you're talking about 2023. This is 2022 genius

So clueless, yet so confident!

You are clueless!!! RR picked up players from Hawks and 91. They are an AA team!

The best Box league is the Goals Baltimore League in Catonsville.

Next Level runs a pretty good one in Rockville also. It is more like a bunch of pickup games than a real league.

Madlax runs one out of Dulles but it is mostly B teams.

It would be awesome if Nercc in Parkville could get something going on their multiple regulation indoor box fields.

DuBurns and Resisterstown Sportsplex have great single fields but have don't have strong leagues.

Myers pavilion has a really good box league for high school kids that Crabs and Rock were in last year.

There are a couple outdoor/indoor leagues with nets instead of boards at with MMILL at SoccerStop in Columbia and API may have a league.

Fisc in Frederick also has incredible multiple regulation box fields and has a league. Check the LaxFaxtory site.

Crabs is still the best at putting together teams for recruiting visibility in high school. Not so good at working with developing elementary and middle schoolers.

You say that because those teams were already together before things started to fall apart. If you think kids are going to move to Crabs 2022 for high school you are nuts. That team is toxic and filled with soft kids that are catered to by the club. That is why kids left. Not just RM

Stop talking out of your round and brown. Nobody knows what this group of young men is capable of at this point. If they [lacrosse] the bed come spring, then you can howl at the moon all you want. Until then, you have no clue what kind of talent they picked up or how the team will gel.

I think the Crabs name in the high school recruiters minds will be very high for a long time. You forget that the college coaches do not follow each clubs ups and downs like us parents and locals do. They are aware of the best tournaments to see the best players and the Crabs will be at them. So when your son is in high school and he wants to play for a club at the best events you will take him to the Crabs. Year to year these teams rotate who has the best of the best kids/teams but the parents of great players playing for clubs not at the top events will show up to the crabs tryouts in high school.
Because when your son is a upcoming sophomore or Jr. you care very little about mean coaches and flat brim hats. You just want him playing in the best events with a shot to be seen by the most coaches. Who by the way do not care 1 cent about who wins or loses these games at the high school age.

Putting up with bad coaching and verbal insults for 2 or 3 tournements over 2 summer months in order to get excellent visibility is worth doing in high school. Putting up with it year round for no visibility in middle school doesn't work.

3D runs a pretty good indoor league for high schoolers in Annapolis . It is not real Box and has nets instead of boards.

"Mean Coaches"

Mommy and Daddy fully expect snowflake to just burn it up out there in MS. Then right into a Varsity slot as a Freshman in HS and of course a early pickup right into a top D1 program.

But all the while, nobody better yell at him or hold him accountable for his own mistakes, action's, in-actions, laziness, bad attitude etc.

I mean because we ALL know, HS coaches don't yell...Petro never yell's at the crew over on Charles Street.

You watch NFL training camp on the boob tube and none of those coaches EVER yell or hold any of those adult males accountable either.

Parent's need to pull their heads out of their asses, wake up and get a clue.

You should be seeking out coaches to yell at your kids and give them a swift kick in their @ss. It's called REAL LIFE.

No parent wants their 6th graders called F-ing pussies on a regular basis.

Real world or not, it is not appropriate for most of society. Parents still want model behavior from their teachers and coaches at this age.

OK. You are correct. There is nothing wrong with yelling at the kids. However, what is being yelled makes a big difference. If you are yelling actual instructions on how to do something properly that may be effective. But RM and his fellow Crabs coaches yelling asking wth they are doing or telling them that they are terrible or other fantastic nuggets of advice is useless and counterproductive. It's called coaching. Coach the kids up. Don't belittle them with no instruction.

There are plenty of good coaches who yell, correct, coach, push and encourage. Then, there are the aholes who just yell, demean and break kids down because they hope to replace them at the next tryout. To each his own, but if you think giving your money to a self-promoting [lacrosse] is the only path to success, more power to you. There are a few coaches at this age group who get it done without being raving lunatics.

Don't make it just the responsibility of coaches to teach your kids. You do have to go home and pick up a stick and play catch. Not many parents know how to play the sport. They don't even understand the sport. Parents are so critical of these coaches who take their time and are trying to help your kids get better. So much negativity centered around them. Why don't you volunteer your time to coach if you don't like what is happening? Hey, why don't you take the goals in for the coach or field phone calls or set up scrimmages? You can't be critical when you literally do nothing!!! $2000.00 a kid isn't s$it to pay for your child to play a sport. Stop complaining!

Not all of us parents are helicopter parents and are worried about our snowflake kids, yelling at a child and being verbally abusive are 2 very different things though!! I am fine with coaches yelling and holding my son accountable for his actions/playing, but calling kids f*cking idiots, pussies. telling them they suck and should just quit, calling them a loser, fat and slow, and having other teammates do these things is bullying and abusive behaviors.

Smart parents of top middle school players look for coaches who are tough, demanding but not abusive. Pushing the kids hard (loud instruction and being demonstrative) is fine as long as its not abusive or counterproductive: Some parents can't discern the difference between the two. Wake up club coaches: Paying $2k is a lot of money to play a sport. Most top players in the MLL paid $150 per season and played for top rec teams in middle school. They turned out ok didn't they. For $2k, parents expect a very good and committed staff, good practice facilities and a good nucleus of players that are being developed into better players. Doesn't have to be the best team but very competitive and always improving. And yes college coaches do know who the best elite club teams are for each graduating class. Their profession has a lot of down time, and they talk about teams and players incessantly. Athleticism, Size, Speed, Skills, IQ are what make you a D1 college candidate. Does playing for a really good club team give you a leg up. In the past definitely, since the recruiting window was so small. Now, a college staff has three summers of tournaments, showcases and prospect camps and two years of high school film before they can talk to you. Don't think for a moment that doesn't change the equation and reduce the importance of a club's legacy.. Some club coaches (and talent evaluation gurus) haven't gotten the memo. Your development window is now 3 years (I'm including 8th grade) vs. the ever shrinking early recruiting window. College coaches want to be efficient and see the best players/teams period. Just because the name on the back of the jersey is XX, doesn't mean they're a can't miss team or prospect.

OP here and I absolutely agree with you, but the fact is...I've never heard a rec or travel Coach at the youth, middle school or even high school level call a player a [lacrosse], or loser. I've never heard a coach tell a kid to quit or that they are fat and slow. I've seen plenty of parents on here post about the "lunatic coaches", but again I've never actually seen the coaches they routinely name do or say anything outrageous as claimed. The people making all the noise about lunatic coaches are parents who think that their little snowflake is a celebrity because Daddy is the CEO of Nabisco and should have special treatment. The crazy part is that in the end...it's the kid that they are hurting the most with their alt left, Dr. Spock non sense.

Eventually, they will be exposed to the real world. Learning those hard life lesson's for the first time in your 20's and beyond sucks.

3D runs a pretty good indoor league for high schoolers in Annapolis . It is not real Box and has nets instead of boards.

Zingos runs a winter league out of the soccer dome in Harmons by BWI that is for High School. It is called Crease lacrosse. Also with nets so not real box.

Then you are very fortunate and you have never watched MM coach. He says all of that and worse. It is horrible for the kids, parents and the sport!

Have to agree about the alt left comment. It's as^holes like this individual that has to introduce a political comment into the discussion. No place for that in a youth lax discussion. No wonder this country is so divided, some find it necessary to link everything to politics. Simply dumb.

AMEN! Watched MM throwing his whiteboard like a frisbee at NLF, yelling F@#$ 10 times under his breath so loud you could hear it 30 yards away! Looked so angry he was literally spitting while yelling it, like he was going to kill one of his kids for losing a damn lacrosse game. I have seen 5 year olds with more composure during their temper tantrums. Hopefully he chills out this season since he has lost players and coaches over it.

Crabs is still the best at putting together teams for recruiting visibility in high school. Not so good at working with developing elementary and middle schoolers.

Hey champ, yelling and encouraging your players to "break their arms" referring to opponents and also telling your players to "cross-check opponents hips" off-ball when the ref is not looking isn't teaching your "snowflake" a good life lesson. Its teaching them to be a complete @ss-Ole. Your statement is concerning. A good coach will push and teach your kid that hard work at practice and on their own is fun because it yields positive results on the field. He will point out those results and positively encourage your player to keep working harder to produce more results. Nobody said the coach couldn't yell. Its WHAT the coach yells that makes the difference!

I really think the thing that everyone is forgetting is coaching is an extension of teaching. Would it ever be acceptable for a private school teacher ( I only use private school because that equates best to a coach because you pay for a service.) to talk to your child they way the coach does. As a referee, a previous coach and one who has been involved in the sport I have always said the athletic field is an extension of the classroom no matter what the team is. When kids talk back to me on the field and I penalize them I always follow it up with "would you talk to your parent or teacher like that" When a coach acts like a nut I always ask them a similar question.
People on this thread really need to put things into perspective form all sides.

Wow..MM is getting quite the reputation ! You would think that someone who makes a living off youth and HS lacrosse players would be a better role model for these same lacrosse players.

100% Correct! I only wish more coaches thought of it this way.
