Wait until at least 7th grade before joining a serious travel program. None of them will make your son demonstrably better. Better off with private/group training.
You present this as if it is your choice when you decide to join a "serious" team. The problem with ur current environment is that teams turnover 5-6 kids a year and have 40 kids tryout for those spots. By 7th grade its worse.
