Peyser Wins MLL's Most Improved Player Award

BOSTON, Mass. - Major League Lacrosse announced Friday that Long Island Lizards midfielder Stephen Peyser has been named as the 2011 Sports Authority MLL Most Improved Player of the Year, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. The award was based on the votes submitted by the head coaches and general managers of each of the League's six teams.

After scoring just 14 goals in 11 games last year, Peyser exploded for 22 goals this year and was the Lizards' second-leading scorer with 32 points. In addition, he ranked second on the team with six two-point goals after not scoring a two-point goal in his career prior to this season.

Peyser, who is in his fourth MLL season, tied a MLL single-game record on July 28 when he scored three two-point goals in the Lizards' win over Rochester. Honored as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week, he also tallied an assist for a season-high seven points.

Peyser recorded four "hat tricks" this season, including back-to-back three-goal games against Denver on June 3 and at Boston on June 11. He also collected a pair of three-goal games against Chesapeake on July 23 and against the Rattlers just five days later.

The former Johns Hopkins University midfielder has scored 72 career goals in 44 games, including six two-point goals, with 11 assists.
