Is it possible there was/is a boy who was a part of the 2019 Grad year when he started school (maybe repeated 2nd grade - not due to grades or health) and is now in 2020.

And said boy is born after sept 1 2001.

According to the LIE website, Terps won several championships, only issue I have is that they were all b touneys. I would give them more respect if they won touneys like lehigh laxfest, farmingdale laxfest and tristate. Not immpressive but nice for the boys. They are probably scared to face Crush.

They won at First State and Madlax, and two more. Regardless they are a very good (top tier) 2020 team.

Agreed, just not in the same league as Crush. Even 91b is right on there tail!

We will see if 91b is on their tails this Saturday.

If said boy was born after 9/1/01 then he would be age eligible for 2020. If said boy was born between 9/1/00 and 8/31/01 then he would be age eligible for 2019 but not 2020.

There is a 2020 Long Island Express team playing at the Indian Summer Tournament in Baltimore this Sunday. Is that the 2020 Terps or a different team? I know that the Terps are playing in Halloween Havoc so I'm guessing it's a different group?

I understand the charts, I understand he would be eligible, but he did not start his academic span as a 2020. Just so happens he is now.

So for some reason, parents decide to retain their child. Do you really feel it is your business, as to why a child is retained? If a child is eligible, there should be no conversation.

It actually is my business when you snobs just can't play by the rules. In the end your holdback will just be average, so enjoy it now! And btw your cut off dates make no sense, because it doesn't work that way...but you should already know that as smart as your acting.

I guess it goes under:

Some people follow moral standards and just because they can, they don't always do.

While others say wth as long as you can bend the rules without breaking them you are ok.

That then follows those who call them out, and those that say it is none of your business. Unfortunately, the only way these get worked out is by policing our selves.

This web site would be a great study on human nature in regards to anonymity...

Maybe we should have a 2020 AA Cheater Division? Sounds like Express and 91 could post teams.

I am confused... based on the chart from Sage- any kid left back for one year would still be in the correct division. Why all the hate? And how is this unethical? Are coaches/teams/programs- not supposed to be following this guideline?

The point is that the top 2020 teams from 91 and and Express have players that are a year older, and some of their parents deny it constantly. They are not "cheating" at all with the rules as they are. If they would just say, "Yes, some of our players are supposed to be in 7th grade", I think that would stop a lot of this. It obviously gives them an advantage, and people would like for them to state the truth. The constant hollow denials are what keeps this going.

No, that's not correct - the players fall into the 2019 age guidelines as posted by Cage, however their parents play them in the 2020 age division. That is by definition cheating. They play them in that age group with the justification that they don't care what the age guidelines are - they only care what year they graduate.

A player that "is supposed to be in 7th grade" is usually not " a year older". Some of these kids with a late birthday (October or November) are only a month or too older than the Dec. 1st cut-off date. They play in 2020 division because that IS the year they will graduate and the class they will be playing lacrosse with! You think that's why these teams have an advantage?! Come on. The parents play them there because that's where they belong...they are 6th graders!

Except that is contrary to us lacrosse rules that a lot the "age based" ( not grade based) tourneys play. In your example 9.1 is the cut off with us lacrosse and most age based tournaments. In your example kids in other regions of the country are playing with 2019 kids even when they are in 2020 grad year due to 9.1 being the cut off.

Dec 1 is not the us lax cut off.

I think the point was, in many instances, the kids are still only a month or two apart in age...not a year older. The kids with the late birthdays that were " held back" are the ones that are close in age with many on their team. Being called "cheaters" in those instances sounds ridiculous.

They are CHEATERS. The cut off is the cut off, period. Even it's a day. Sadly, since it is not enforced some of you people make your own rules and cut off dates, then you try to justify it. Bottom line is you have an UNFAIR advantage, and if you think you don't, then why don't you play with your own age group??

How do you know if they are only a month or 2 apart? What if they are a January or Febuary birthday? Then they could be almost 2 years older than the kids they are playing.

Express parents have never made excuses when they lost to the Crush. They are the defending national champions and there is no shame in losing to them. Wait a few years when the crush kids can't get into college because they have no time to study and get good grades because all they do is play lacrosse 4 days a week all year.

How about going to birth year like other sports such as hockey . It would take all the nonsense out of it. Have ID cards issued that must be produced prior to the tournament. It would eliminate the different years that boys and girls start school in different states. Even if the parents want to hold back for academic purposes the sports advantage would not be available.

Almost as ridiculous as the accusations leveled against U based teams when these "held back" kids play against children the same age or younger but in a higher grade.

You are right, it does sound ridiculous, however, if you think most of these boys are a month or 2 apart is naive

So if my kid is "a day" older than your kid he has an "UNFAIR advantage"????

Tournaments are starting to require Birth Certificates to be submitted with the rosters to verify that the players fall within the DOB requirements of the tournaments. The Dicks Tournament of Champions in Florida is requiring the Birth Certificates this year and so is the World Lacrosse Festival in Denver. What will be interesting to see is if 91 or Express still send their 2020 teams to these. If they do go and submit their real birth certificates I would assume they'd have to play in the next division/age group up...

Requiring age validation is not coming by accident. This has been front and center in many BOTC discussions with various tournament committees and US Lacrosse itself.

Not so, the older kids qualify this year under the current age breakdowns
