Question about tryouts... how many of the "better" teams will actually take on good players who tryout or do the better teams (ie Express, 91) have a tight, buttoned up roster? Is it worth it to tryout if you think your son can handle that level of lacrosse? Or is just a way for them to take your money?

Every team will take your money and tell you what you want to hear to get it. Coaching and playing time are so important at this age. If they aren’t getting either, it’s time to move on.

Express/91 is going to be weird …. They will start flying in players next few years. So unless your kid is a student! There are better options. Rebels/True Blue/ BTB/ legacy

Most important thing to ask about is roster size and who and how committed is the coach.

"Tryouts" are a total cash scam. Go scout a tourney or 2 next month and have a realistic conversation with your son about his abilities/goals/drives. Find some teams where you feel your son could make and impact and email the org to get an invite to a practice. This paying 100 bucks or whatever is for suckers. Teams are always looking to fill out second squads with impact players and if he's beast, people will coming looking for you. There's a place for everyone in the LI club scene.

Agree. By this age tryouts are mostly a waste for top teams and rosters are 90 percent or more set. Most top clubs will have a few select positions they may want upgrade. So if your son doesn’t play those positions the tryout fee is a donation. Typically the clubs know who they want and are actively recruiting. If they aren’t reaching out to you proactively you have a low chance. So even if you try out for a position they have a gap it’s very rare and unknown quantity gets picked up. Joining a practice before tryout is always a good move as you can be seen and evaluated and perhaps get done individual feedback. Good luck.

Even if they are proactively seeking you it doesn't mean much. It's part of the game all clubs play. Get a kid to leave one club with promises of playing time, fame and glory. Just to bench him.
Look at what express did last year taken on all those kids..... Most of the newbies play on the orange team ........

There’s going to be a mass exodus from express this summer. The organization clearly doesn’t think they’re any goof by playing in the B bracket. Play some A brackets and test yourself. At least 91 puts both teams in A brackets. Our Northman and maybe Frost could both play A but that’s it

I can’t imagine that trainwreck after the reclasses hit this summer. Travel up and down I95 to watch LIE play your son for 2 minutes.

Igloo Northmen and Frost are irrelevant, and not part of the 2028 conversation, neither team should be traveling or playing top teams. They are both rec level and would struggle against PAL teams.

Express will look different next year with 2027 holdbacks, but the core of the team will not change. As expected 91 and Express will be the top teams in this age group. Rebel parents please take note.

My oldest used to play for 91, left to go to a different club because he wanted to play with his friends. Around 8th or 9th grade, he wanted to come back to 91 because he knew that was the organization that will help him get ready to play at the next level. He came back and played with the warriors and although they were the "2nd" team with 91, that team beat most of the "1st' team organizations. I agree that 91 and Express are the 2 teams that kids should be trying out for. There is just no consistency with the other organizations. Have a fun summer and hopefully your son is on the field more than off

How many Daddy coaches on that Warrior team? The FOGO had his dad on the sideline - where did he play in College? The HC was the only one without a kid on that team - one guy had 2. Good luck getting any PT with Daddy ball. 91 has taken that to a whole new level. Playing meaningful minutes is most important during the recruiting years. If your son is sitting behind a Coach’s kid, they are not doing you any service, regardless of what your beliefs are. People on B teams should definitely position their boys to move to A or move on……

91 is also big on flying in players at the older the ages. 1/3 of their team will be from out of state.

You can ask, they will lie and tell you what you want to hear. You need to talk to parents on the teams to figure all of that out.

From what I noticed there were 2 kids with #3 jersey, 2 kids with #44 jersey, 2 kids with #88 jersey.
5 kids with white or non black express helmets
One kid blatantly wearing St Anthony helmet
2028 black chucks were in DE so they use 2027 kids
How many actual 28 orange kids????
Igloo robbed of fair chance at championship.

Venom’s top player was tired from playing for Chaos as well. With the heat and load he had to carry for both teams, just wore him down.

Oh stop with the bigger nonsense. I know this because everyone with a brain knows this. That team is older. I can’t speak for your kid, but there are several groups of kids across the country that “know” each other and have snap or instagram group messages. And unlike their parents, they are honest about their ages and what school they reclassed at. It’s factual and not an assumption based on size.

Again, they shouldn't haven't even been in the bracket or tournament. Kind of strange that Express posted all of their other tournament wins this past weekend, except this one. They know they cheated badly this time.

They pulled the same stunt last summer at a charity tournament for town teams out east for a kid that killed himself. Brought there student 2028's and acted like cocky jerks. Even the chucks parents were embarrassed by the fact that they were playing in this tournament. Classless organization

LE is an excellent team, very fast and very unselfish on offense. They play great team defense and are very good getting 50/50 ground balls. Beating them will be very difficult, I think they’re very comparable to teams the 2way and the Hawks. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see them winning or making the finals of several other tournaments this summer.
