Nice to see a town team like Manhasset make it to the finals against travel teams like SST and SYAG. That program has a future.

agree. caught this game waiting for my other son to play, what a game. Nice to see a clean game by both teams, respectful coaches, just a good lacrosse game to watch all around.

Now this is funny. How many of the Manhasset kids play travel? True town teams are just that...town teams. All levels. "32" was invite only.

Seemed like that team was basically a combo of two travel teams....

Went to Dukes National "tryout" this past Saturday. Buyer beware. The practice was 3hrs and 10 minutes long. They did the same 5v4 drill for 2hrs and 30 minutes of it. The same 3 kids on attack the whole time - never rotated any 2023 attackmen (until the 2022s showed up - then they alternated with those 3 attackmen). This was the biggest disappointment ever. For new kids they gave them pinnies with no numbers on them. The coaches had no clipboards in their hands. This was not a tryout - a total MONEY GRAB! I will say it again - BUYER BEWARE!

Oh yes, and they raised the fee to $895...

So a "true" town team is a team where none of the boys play on a club team? Seriously? A true town team is a team where all of the boys playing live in the same town. Why would it matter that the boys are playing for their town and a club? Are you acknowledging that a lot of the boys that play club get better and have an advantage over the boys that just play town?

So now to qualify as a true town team the kids can't play anywhere else. Interesting.

No, that's not what I'm saying. Obviously, tons of kids play travel. What I'm saying is that to be a considered a true town team you can only have kids from your town. Whether they play travel or not is irrelevant. No extras from outside that play for your kid's travel team or anything like that. We all know that one or two kids can make a tremendous difference on a team. Many travel teams masquerade as town teams but have as many as 5 kids from outside of the town. There are very few true town teams that can compete with travel clubs. I was just giving kudos to Manhasset for beating some travel teams. There are a very small number of town-only teams that can compete with travel clubs. Three Village is one that comes to mind. To play on their A team (travel & PAL), you must be from 3V and not play on another club. Teams like that are the exception, but also why they are so good at Varsity level.

Not what I am saying. A true town team has plenty of kids that do not play club. Manhasset's team has only hand picked kids on 32. Great that the town can field all these boys, dont get me wrong. But stop with the holiness. It was made up of travel kids. Not inclusive of the bottom tier kids on all PAL teams

being that it was a 24/23 bracket, did 32 have any 24's on their team?

As long as they all live in the same town, they're a town team. All of the kids that play for Manhasset live in Manhasset. They are a town team, a very good one, but still a town team. Unlike teams that enter tourneys from Commack, Huntington, Connetquot, SYAG, etc.. that stack their team with out of town ringers.

you know darn well that you do not want the Manhasset kids coming to your team and taking a spot easily. probably would be able to skip the first b.s. round of tryouts.

Are you serious? A true town team should have boys of all ability play? So if a town has multiple teams in PAL in 6th grade and they form an A team, then they are not a true town team. Read that again and please recognize how ridiculous your point is. If you want to have a true town team then you need to have boys of all ability levels and they should not play club lacrosse. What town is following this model?

No one follows that model because it's moronic. What you're describing is a PAL town team. That's great. Everyone plays games against similarly skilled kids. However, tournaments are generally more competitive so towns very often make a True A team to participate in them, providing they have more than one team. You sound like you're new to the game so I'll give you a pass.

What are you talking about??? They are all already on travel clubs. Definitely 3 top tier plywrs, but the rest is filled in with Middle of the road players. Not bashing them, I think it's great that they won as a town, but it was a [lacrosse] tourney and against quality competition that team gets smoked... bad.

There's too many clubs now. Some of them can't field a team anymore.

When you turnover your team 3 times in 3 years, you tend to alienate people. Just sayin'

There are never too many clubs/teams until demand determines it - there is a team for everyone of every ability. That's whats called growing a sport! If a program here or there has issues, there are many more that are filling up - the market abhors a vacuum.

They pick up a few players each year, but the prior post is correct. They have completely turned the roster over for 3 consecutive years. When you do that, you alienate a lot of people, and you end up with a few players who have also switched teams a few times and begin to run out of options

Then why has fl$, True Blue, Recon, Blue Fish, 365 Lax, Hitmen, etc. all folded or can't field a team?
I know 91 and Express have three teams, and a few other programs have two teams each. Is that where the kids are going?
