Still a huge gap between MD and UNC, and the rest of the field. A school would need 2-3 consecutive top recruiting classes (proven on the field) to have a legitimate shot at the NCAA championship. Would love to see it happen but it is a long shot.

Every year, there are 5 or more schools that can wit it all...and every year, at least in the women's game, the same teams are--by and large--in the final 4...while it sounds great that there are possibly other teams that can be champs, reality is that it wont happen... It will happen, there are a handful of teams that will have a chance over the next 8 years. In no particular order: Duke, Syracuse, Penn, USC, Stanford, Boston College and a couple of others could win a National Championship. Virginia, Penn State and Princeton could all be back in the final four with a chance to win it all again. Add Northwestern, Maryland and North Carolina to the mix and there are 12 - 15 teams that will have legitimate chances to win a National Championship over the next 8 years (probably more like 15 - 18 teams). Personally, I think Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Syracuse, Northwestern, Duke, USC, Princeton, Penn and Stanford will be the front runners over the next 8 - 10 years. * Before 2001, this championship was a national collegiate championship. 2016 - North Carolina 2015 - Maryland 2014 - Maryland 2013 - North Carolina 2012 - Northwestern 2011 - Northwestern 2010 - Maryland 2009 - Northwestern 2008 - Northwestern 2007 - Northwestern 2006 - Northwestern 2005 - Northwestern 2004 - Virginia 2003 - Princeton 2002 - Princeton 2001 - Maryland 2000 - Maryland 1999 - Maryland 1998 - Maryland 1997 - Maryland 1996 - Maryland 1995 - Maryland 1994 - Princeton 1993 - Virginia 1992 - Maryland 1991 - Virginia 1990 - Harvard 1989 - Penn State 1988 - Temple 1987 - Penn State 1986 - Maryland 1985 - New Hampshire 1984 - Temple 1983 - Delaware 1982 - Massachusetts Take Stanford and BC off that list and put Florida on it and I agree with all else Disagree with you on Stanford. While that may be true the problem is UNC gets 4 of the best including probably the top player and Maryland gets about the same as UNC and Virginia gets 2 and so on. While yes there is some politics involved in ranking the recruits they cannot be completely terrible as the top teams consistently are getting many of the top recruits and continue to win.

The sport desperately needs a wildcard team to win one to get everyone excited. The more teams in play the better! Hopefully it happens soon because the attraction of the sport to marginal fans is almost zero. The only people who care are the parents and families of the players

This could be the dumbest most biased discussion ever on the board. I'm not saying Stony Brook should be on there but if you put Stanford who SB beat by 10 goals!!! And BC who they also beat how couldn't you. Truth is there is no way of telling it changes every year and comes down to who gets hot when it matters. This sounds like a bunch of daddies trying to justify them spending 40k a year. I would add Stony Brook who has been a top 10 last two years , Towson who has been improving greatly, Loyola a perennial top 15 as well. Be fair First off I said take those two schools off the list. Second you are saying put Stony Brook on the list. Third if you look at the list of previous champions saying it changes every year and comes down to who gets hot makes you look like you are trying to justify sending your kid to a state school because of the money. Lastly if you are going to say be fair then lets talk about Stony Brooks performance in the tournament the past several years before you say they can win it all. Completely understand your point but beating BC then losing by 1 to Syracuse who made Final 4 isnt too bad. But I get it. As far as recruiting classes rankings we all know for the most part those are not very accurate and my older daughter was a top kid that never panned out. 50% don't pan out and the coaches are well aware of that, look at how many pro sports teams that draft can't miss players who never pan out (see Heisman trophy winners)and I'm sure that they're staffs are a little more advanced at this then a women's lax coach and her staff. that's why there are 25-35 players on a roster and only 15-16 actually play, they are thrilled if 50% pan out

So yes there has been a choke hold on D1 titles for the last few decades from a small handful of teams. But something is about to drastically change the game moving forward, enter the shot clock. I suggest that we may see the tables turn because of this, the dynamics of how the game is played and coached has just been up ended. The coaches and teams that adapt the best to this new era may not be the trusted guard. We will see soon enough.

Boston College recruits- Hannah Cermack,Jordan Lappin,Abby Ngai,Elizabeth Farnsworth,Jenn Medjid,Weeks sisters,Walsh Sisters,Paisley Eagan, Isabelle smith. Are a few of the recruits I have a seen play and will all be there in the next few years. Being from LI, BC is a great location because it's not too far away and an amazing school.

ND meets ALL need (same as the Ivy's)and has scholarship money as well, so finances are rarely an issue and the school recruits itself in every sport - yes if your grades suck it makes it harder to get in, but far from impossible, every team has a certain amount of kids who would never get in academically, but they do get in - they're called academic exceptions. Unfortunately, the school won't give the football team the amount of exceptions needed for them to be competitive, which is why Urban Meyer didn't take the job several years ago

Last time I checked, they don't hand out championships for having (perceived) strong recruiting classes or for having generous financial aid packages.
Not all recruits pan out and for many in the lacrosse world college tuition is not a major concern.
Games are won and lost on the field.
Notre Dame and Boston College are both excellent schools with solid lacrosse programs and are certainly two of the schools with a reasonable chance to win a National Championship in the years to come. However, they are not the end all be all that some believe them to be. The top recruits can pick whatever school they want as long as their academic profile is strong enough.
No school has their pick of the litter. It is the other way around, the top 20 or so recruits are the ones who have their pick. The top recruits choose where they want to go to school.
Schools with the best chance of winning their first National Championship in the next 8 years: (in no particular order)
* Notre Dame, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, USC, Stanford, Penn and Florida.
Schools who have not won in more than 10 years with the best chance to win again:
* Penn State, Princeton and Virginia.
The obvious schools that will more than likely win:
* Maryland, North Carolina and Northwestern.

Penn State. Chill out on putting them with MD & UNC I agree. Penn State is a very good team and had a very good playoff run last year which propelled them to #4 in the IWLCA poll rankings at the end of the year. But this is rare territory for that team, UNC and MD are there every year, all year long, PSU will fall back to where they have always been, top 10-20.

See who has the most returning talent plus recruits and do the math. it isn't difficult and makes the most sense. It may however prevent some of you from pumping up your daughters underachieving school.

Why are we always talking about the top 10% of schools and players? Never ever realistic talk of where most kids will play and get into with average academics and average lacrosse? Elon, Bryant, Marist, Fairfield, Iona, Quinnipiac, LIU Brooklyn and so many more

Sorry Mommy, BC is far behind those schools athletically and academically, and will never get a chance to even smell a Nat Championship.

BC will not be winning anything, they're not even a top 20 team and have recruited average players, not studs. are you drunk... yes they are, pre-season ranked #19, beat Syracuse and lost to UNC,SBU and UVA last year after losing a stud(apuzzo) to injury and Rix and Stanwick the year before. Expecting big things out of them this year.

Everyone wants the top ten (especially when your daughter is in 9th grade and you haven't yet been down the lacrosse recruiting road - we did too). My daughter had a few offers from higher ranked lax schools, but for little money and she was clearly not one of their top picks. She did, however, have offers from a few schools you mention, as well as a few other similar schools. She picked the one she liked best, is getting substantial athletic money and is very happy with her choice. Academically the school is a great fit for her too.

* Maryland, North Carolina and Northwestern.
I wouldn't put Northwestern in the same group as Maryland and North Carolina...4 years ago yes, last year they lost more games then they did in 4 seasons combined.
BC will not be winning anything, they're not even a top 20 team and have recruited average players, not studs. are you drunk... yes they are, pre-season ranked #19, beat Syracuse and lost to UNC,SBU and UVA last year after losing a stud(apuzzo) to injury and Rix and Stanwick the year before. Expecting big things out of them this year. The freshman they lost to injury last year could have went to any school she wanted to but chose to go to BC because it was the right fit for her. Season would have been a lot different if she didn't get hurt. This year expect BC to be a lot better than last year.

Boston College recruits- Hannah Cermack,Jordan Lappin,Abby Ngai,Elizabeth Farnsworth,Jenn Medjid,Weeks sisters,Walsh Sisters,Paisley Eagan, Isabelle smith. Are a few of the recruits I have a seen play and will all be there in the next few years. Being from LI, BC is a great location because it's not too far away and an amazing school. Thanks mom or dad for that amazing in depth break down . Going to go out on a limb and say one of those kids are yours .Sorry but BC just not going to be able to get by the MD, UNC, PSU teams . But who cares? of the team you listed BC has the highest academic requirements to get it in. Great school forget about the natty championship in lacrosse get the diploma and run BC is a decent academic school, not so great lax school, Many better options for both of best worlds, such as ND, Stanford, Cornell, Penn, NW, Princeton, Hopkins, Virginia, Duke. Sorry Mommy, BC is far behind those schools athletically and academically, and will never get a chance to even smell a Nat Championship. Bc is ranked the 22nd school in the country per forbes.... The more reliable US News has them out of the top 30, stop pretending you are elite (top 20), a good school, not tops athletically or academically. Big drop off after the top 20. Face facts please, and stop the bragging, you are embarrassing yourself.

If you are from LI you have a much better chance at getting into BC than UNC and probably MD. My son wanted to go to UNC was top 5 in his class w 1400 SAT got wait listed UNC, Tufts but accepted BC. Getting into some of these state schools from out of state is no joke. As far as rankings go US News more respected than Forbes.

The schools being argued about are all very good schools, with established alumni networks. Chances are that if your daughter plays lacrosse (if she plays at these schools she is most likely talented and driven), at any of those schools and graduates, she will be very successful in her chosen career path. Isn't that what is important?

Why are we always talking about the top 10% of schools and players? Never ever realistic talk of where most kids will play and get into with average academics and average lacrosse? Elon, Bryant, Marist, Fairfield, Iona, Quinnipiac, LIU Brooklyn and so many more You're right. Everyone wants the top ten (especially when your daughter is in 9th grade and you haven't yet been down the lacrosse recruiting road - we did too). My daughter had a few offers from higher ranked lax schools, but for little money and she was clearly not one of their top picks. She did, however, have offers from a few schools you mention, as well as a few other similar schools. She picked the one she liked best, is getting substantial athletic money and is very happy with her choice. Academically the school is a great fit for her too. I have a solid B student who is a good player. Anyone know anything about Mercy and Oneonta? Those are my people! Funny how I share I sideline with a lot of similer kids and families every weekend yet when they get on BOTC they turn into elite players and students

Not all recruits pan out and for many in the lacrosse world college tuition is not a major concern.
Games are won and lost on the field.
Notre Dame and Boston College are both excellent schools with solid lacrosse programs and are certainly two of the schools with a reasonable chance to win a National Championship in the years to come. However, they are not the end all be all that some believe them to be. The top recruits can pick whatever school they want as long as their academic profile is strong enough.
No school has their pick of the litter. It is the other way around, the top 20 or so recruits are the ones who have their pick. The top recruits choose where they want to go to school.
Schools with the best chance of winning their first National Championship in the next 8 years: (in no particular order)
* Notre Dame, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, USC, Stanford, Penn and Florida.
Schools who have not won in more than 10 years with the best chance to win again:
* Penn State, Princeton and Virginia.

She may have been highly recruited by some but not all. They also lost Sarah Mannelly to graduation, a Tewaaraton Finalist. They will not be any better than last year. And to the Stanford supporter, not a chance. They won't even win their conference. USC I predict wins not only the conference again, but the national championship. And before u all completely write off NU, They r returning most of their top players and getting a few key ones back from injury and as far as coaching and adapting to the new rules, they r some of the best.
