That’s an honest assessment of the age group. M&D is clear number 1 until someone beats them in a full game. The few games they lost were half a game.

The only way MD United beats M&D is in short games by scoring early and then stalling - which is totally the fault of the M&D coaches. They beat M&D at Lax Cure that way. But the five games previous to that M&D beat them including trouncing them 15-3 in their local spring league championship. Someone needs to teach M&D how to play shortened playoff games

YJ the class act, but the others are getting there. Like Aces staff and the hires and you got the force with Heroes. Any others should be on the list? Think another two or three.

Aces and Monster are ranked closely for their 25’s, 28’s and 29’s. Aces clearly ahead for 26’s and 27’s.

Isn’t that how you win any playoff game with 4-5 games in the same day? Score early and stall?

Apparently it is . NOt very good lacrosse but it is a way to win. My opinion is at these tournaments where you could have two additional playoff games is to have three games the first day of the tournament and one regular game the second day. That way if you end up having to play one or two additional games you're not so beat. Especially in summer tournaments where its hot too.

Not sure about last year, but def in the past. I know YJ beat both M&D and MDU in very tight games in LFTC.

BLC needs to be added to the top-5 conversation, they are close with Hero's.

M&D won in OT vs MDU in a 46 min NGLL game in spring. Obviously coulda gone either way.

Teams that rely on 2-3 players to do majority of the work tend to struggle in playoff games. M&D is one of them, hence they have not won LTFC. Depth is key and you need to get multiple players to contribute.

Why does Igloo keep getting included in these lists? They are a clear step or two down even from teams like Legacy Blue. Two or three very good girls but that's it.

You should check the scores past few weeks. They are right there in the mix

If you practice 4 times a week, you'd better be in the mix.... Igloo keep getting mentioned because the coach is a market machine...

I’m not an igloo parent. They have beaten jesters and legacy in the fall why can’t they be in the mix?

If you've watched them play you'd know why they can't. A small number of VERY talented girls but I've seen them lose to some mediocre teams over the past 12 months.

What tournaments will they play in the Fall and Summer? That is the key to improving, but the best tournaments can be hard to get into.

They sent out an email with a tournament schedule to those signed up for tryouts this past summer. Some of what they listed were Maryland Cup, Live Love Lax, Lax for the Cure, Summer Genesis.

I heard they had trouble getting into some of these summer tournaments e.g lax for the cure is already sold out.

I hope igloo is at least somewhat successful. With Liberty being acquired by Jesters and Elevate went away, Nassau could definitely use another club team. The problem is that Liberty and Elevate had great track records of producing solid college commits, which I don't see how it will work with Igloo yet. I don't even see the same depth of commits from Jesters other than a few 2023 HS grads. Having YJ as almost the monopoly is not a great thing for girls.

Think the depth of Jesters recruits will come as last years ranking for the

2026 black team #5
2027 black team #8
2028 black team #11
2029 black team #36
2030s will have high ranking as well

Think the 2026/2027 class will solidly it and therefore attract more talent from the Nassau lax towns in the younger years.

That's very helpful! And you are right (I just double checked) - the 2024 (#70) and 2025 (#23) were not the highest ranked although I would say #23 is still very solid. I hope Jesters can produce strong commits in 2026, including strong lax and strong academic schools to fill the void of Liberty and Elevate. Those two clubs used to produce many Ivies and Ivies-like commits. Otherwise, I wonder where all the Manhasset and GC kids would go.

Well Jesters is the closest to GC/ Manhasset, play in a lot of the big recruiting tournaments, and have a dedicated indoor complex. You’re starting to see some movement in the 5th- 9th grade years from these towns. Think these next few recruiting years will determine how it goes.

I don't necessarily agree with this. I think you will see an influx of kids to Tradition and Igloo. My opioion is that both put the extra effort into their teams and offer more attention to player growth. They will attract the kids who are tired of being in a small fish in giant pond.

In terms of recruiting, the strongest kids will get recruited regardless of who they play for. A lot of recruiting is also done at college showcases. If you go to a prospect day and play well, they will come see you live. Fact. You just need to have coaches and directors who are paying attention to all kids, not just their top 5 that will make the best social media post.

#3 is MD United

Agree w MD United.

Isn’t that how you win any playoff game with 4-5 games in the same day? Score early and stall?

Perhaps, but it's also how you destroy your ranking. Shortened playoff games have the same expected goal differential. In a typical playoff structure, the A bracket plays the B bracket (75% of the time). This typically puts the expected goal differential at about ten goals. That differential does not change just because it's a 20 minute game. Win by four goals, stall, celebrate on the GW Bridge. Get home and watch how your ranking/rating dropped.

Igloo basically a year old with no recruiting results.Tradition a lot of outflow from the program to Top Guns, Jesters and YJ, not fielding at least one older team and also no recruiting results. Also both programs don’t attend most of the big recruiting tournaments. What’s the upside? parent coaching?

"the strongest kids will get recruited regardless of who they play for"

I just went through this with my 2025 and this is 100% true and something brand-chasing parents don't understand. You want your girl on the field as much as possible so she can get better and eventually be seen.

Being on "Great Team A" doesn't matter if you're on the bench. The 25 D1 commits for the 2025 YJ team is exceedingly rare and probably unique to that group of girls.

Agreed that the strongest kids will always get recruited but that's a very small number of kids and unfortunately most kids don't fall into this category. I think as in most things in life, it's not always so black and white. While being on a team of smaller roster size and playing most of every game is great, it doesn't not automatically translate to getting better if your team is weak and you play weak competition. Ideally you want great training, a small roster size, great team mates that are similar to your level and even preferably at top 1/2 of the team so you can continue to grow, clubs with decent track records, etc. but in reality when you look at the all club options and consider the proximity and any given year and team have different dynamics, you have very limited options and you may only hit a couple of the "ideals". Both my girls have switched teams more than once, we honestly are not "grass is always greener" and we have come to the conclusion, it's just about what you can tolerate and make it work...

Happens every year at YJ so they may be the exception

What are the projected rankings for LI teams when they come out for 2030? YJ number 1 or 2? Where will jesters and Igloo be?

Why do people keep acting like Igloo is even in the running for the top one or two? Must be a lot of Igloo 2030 parents on this board.

Jesters Igloo and Legacy have all gone back and forth all fall: Igloo beating legacy twice, losing to legacy once. Jesters beating Igloo once, Igloo beating Jesters once. Jesters beating legacy once, legacy beating Jesters once. They are all still pretty equal at this age with the exception of Babst.

91 is about 45-60 minutes each way for us.

What about the Rebels teams out here? LaxOn,theclubranbyascamarist, theclubranbyascamarist? Does anyone know anything about them? Wasn't there a team called Team 22?

YJ will always take someone’s money and will also be ready to discard your kid when the next political deal needs to be made. 2025 and even 2026 are going to be all top recruits. We are talking Spallina and Manning who both have maintain number 1 rankings, play kids equally and are invested much more then many other teams. Though YJ 2030 seems to seeded to be top 3 this year.

Rebels is a low B, C level team. LaxOn,theclubranbyascamarist, theclubranbyascamarist is a B level team but is competitive. Team 22 folded/merged with Elevate and then folded. Not too many options if you are looking for eastern Suffolk. Surge is a new club starting but will have probably be on par with rebels.

Thank you for the feedback. There really isn't anything going on out here but it sounds like Lax On might be worth looking at.

There are girls on my daughters PAL team that are part of that program and are doing well. My older daughter who plays for another club has done training with them, since it is open to all, and got good reps in.

Jesters beat Aces and Heros. Lost to M&D by a goal. Looks like Primetime Navy should be considered top 5 from their showing in the fall

Watched primetime this past weekend. I'm not from LI and didn't know about them. They are def top 5. They are the real deal.

Jesters looks like a 5-10 ranked team

A few teams outside of the LI area that are better than I realized. Eaglestix looks like a top 5-10 team this year.

Trying to sort out where NXT Black, Ultimate LV, Aces Elite belong. Not clear how good the Mass and Conn teams are this year. NJ does not appear to have any elite teams.

Watched igloo a couple weeks ago. They may be a 10-15 team. PP are correct, they have a couple really good players but they are not a complete team yet.

I have a 2025 in addition to my 2030. Remember not to get caught up in rankings.

Rankings and tournaments are really only for the parents. Focus on development and fun for your girls. That’s what will be important as they get older if they decide they want to play after high school.

Maryland teams have a massive advantage in strength of schedule over pretty much everyone else (with exception to a few big name programs - ES, Nxt, Aces etc). They play top teams just about every game. Its major component to rankings (NOT wins & loses) This can only be overcome by a high + Average Goal Differential. The good teams out there with weaker schedules will fall lower than expected/hoped for. This is why top 10 is composed of many Maryland teams in the early years & is hard to overcome without having a strong schedule. Also cause they are older & very good lol

Pretty spot on for LI in your ranking predictions on top 20 2030 teams

Babst #3
Jesters Black #5
Top guns black #7
Igloo arctic blast #10
Legacy blue #11
YJ O Sullivan #18

I can tell you from experience, going to be lots of shakeups once these teams finish summer. Just not enough games played to really seperate these teams.

Example, #8 Team One got 100 pts for beating some random Ohio team by 10. That Ohio team hasn't dropped down far enough, but once they do that 100 pt score will also drop them.

Igloo, #10, best win (mathematically) was against YJ Mid Atlantic, who hasn't played anyone but got blowout wins against subpar teams. Once those subpar teams fall off, those wins become worth less.

Surprisingly the coaching has never impressed me with that 91 team. Teaching young players to foul instead of moving your feet and playing good defense always struck me as weird and not doing right by the girls. Some talented girls there but not the right coaching IMO.

Hot take: Parent coaches with kid on team (that have played the game) are better than paid coaches.

Parent coaches ensure that the team is always in best tournaments and league.
Paid coaches may leave team out to dry if not during tournament season

Paid coaches may leave team out to dry if not during tournament season

Totally agree with this

Also overstretched coaches: coaches with too many teams who get pulled in every direction and cannot be fully present.

Have daughters on both ends of this and it is very much the opposite of what your stating here. Its totally situational based and not cut and dry. Can go either way based on each individual club and certainly not a topic that can be generalized

What 2030 teams have coaches that you'd reccomend? Impartial, show up consistently, and are knowledgable of the sport.

Agreed on it being situational. Both of my kids (2025 and 2030) have had parent coaches for most of their club teams and it's been very different.

One is way harder on his/her kid than anyone else. The other lets his/her kid get away with not being worthy of even being on the team, honestly.

Anyone who says this has not had a parent coach or parent coaches negatively affect their daughter. While yes they tend to stay around for the duration cause their kid is on the team most times they are self serving and there to grease the wheels for their kids. That doesn't mean they're not a good coach - but it is definitely self serving. And this is a 2030/6th grade forum. Come back to me when you're kid is in high school and recruiting. I've had two kids come through and both years (24 & 27) the coaches kids played way more than their abilities dictated. Which means while they played someone more deserving was sitting. Even worse some teams have multiple parent coaches. It should be avoided as much as possible. And if not possible it should be cut off by recruiting.

Generally the kid who doesn’t belong will not last- esp on the top level teams

Again, yes and no. For my 2025, the kid has lasted as a starter. For my 2030 coach's kid I can only hope the same thing doesn't happen.

Had 3 parents coaches for soccer this year and all three kids undeservingly started midfield LOL… had to bolt the team mid season. Phew!!

As parent with a 30 & 24 that play girls lax I agree with this. For my older daughter, it was a great experience with the team and coaches until these past two summers. The focus shifted from team work and everyone gets time to protecting the rankings and highlighting the coaches daughter. It is so toxic that we are considering sitting out this summer as she is already committed.
My 2030 is on a team with parent coaches and they have been great so far and our team has a large roster. However I know how this will play out and we will be moving to another program without parent coaches.

Those tams are successful…with their parent coaches. Parent coaches are only a problem when their kid stinks but plays a ton and/or the wrong position.

Stopping by to say kudos to the Jesters 16 week indoor training program. This is our first year and this place is a well oiled machine…… think it will be Top 5 national program at most age groups very soon!

Things will change as teams look to protect their rankings. You will notice a change in distributing playing time as the starters will play the whole time in “important” games. Most parent coaches teams will have their daughters as starters and this unequal playing time will continue during showcases.
In front on college coaches the game parents will make sure their daughters are on display. Some coaches will only sub once the desired college coach leaves for another field.

I have a two daughter in club and I am finding this to be the case. Coaches kid take draws, run middie, and they are far from best option.
MY one daughter has 4 coaches kids' on team.

All four start and are center pieces while better players are either not playing as much or not in role they should be. I'm not even going to talk on the social cycle and how cliques come into play.

If you don't like it go find a better situation. It's easy to blame the coach that puts in endless hours while you the parent doesn't put any time in with your child. Most parents are delusional when it comes to their kid's abilities and point the finger at the coach. The parents I know that coach do it because they love coaching and know that if they leave it to someone else, they risk having their kids exposed to bad coaching. Of course there's an element of prioritizing their kid but that's no different in any other sport or facet of life.

This attitude is so pervasive. I'm putting in endless hours too and I'm dumping $3,200 in to the team. There's no need for one parent coach much less four!!!! That's four spot sewn up on a team. This had to have been written by a parent coach

Dad Coach Here. Terrible take. At the youth level (especially below MS) its' really not realistic to have paid non-Dad coaches. Its not common to see an example of a team without 1. If it was realistic to have more paid coaches (there are not enough available) its likely your club dues would be substantially higher to maintain margins. Do you want to see that at the youth levels? Not many do. Having said we've all seen poor examples of Dad coaches. I myself try to be be as fair as I can on playing time and avoid biases. Many coaches do a great job though in this regard. Some unfortunately do not.

Do your homework and try to avoid places with a reputation of these issues. If there is an opportunity to play somewhere where the coaches child is playing a different position as your son you should go that direction if that's so important to you and you are concerned. You are the consumer in the end and choose the best option for you based on what is available. And if you aren't comfortable with any option.... you don't have to play either.

There are entire programs without parent coaches. There are also entire programs with entirely paid female coaching staffs.

I will say that often parent coaches are HARDER on their own kid. I saw that with my son's club team for many years. No one was harder on the coach's son than the coach.

Absolutely written by parent coach. No one is forcing these parent coaches to coach, they do it for one main reason, to get their kids an advantage. Do they love lax too? Do they want to grow the game? Then coach Rec and teach it to more kids who can't afford club.

Sorry, people in charge should be held accountable. The "How dare someone question me" attitude is big part of the problem. The coaches always say "communication is key, please feel free to discuss" but as this poster points out, deep down, what you say will be held against your kid.

Anyone?[/quote]

A simple google search would've given you the answer. All yellow jackets 30's have parent coaches. Some teams have more then one. Jesters , Team 91. All you have to do is look. It's at every club. I actually do concede finding paid coaches is hard so I'll say no parent coaches once into middle school (6th or 7th). Definitely not in recruiting.

Again, see dad coach comment above. Instead of complaining about dad coaches, take your money somewhere else. But you simply can’t ignore the fact that the top clubs have parent coaches (yj, jesters, heros, aces).

I just don't think that there are enough quality experienced dedicated paid coaches around that are willing to coach purely other kids for the pay they get. Agreed that some parents are not qualified to be a coach and teams that have more than 1 or 2 parent coaches are inexcusable. But if I were a highly succesful college or HS lax coach, why would I pay someone less qualified than me to coach? I'm not a parent coach. My girls have had parent coaches (shouldn't coach to begin with) that have negatively affected them big time and also paid coaches that just couldn't show up consistently because of their full time jobs or not good enough. They also have had parent coaches that are providing them top notch training and mostly fair. It's not like there are many club options out there when you have to consider the proximity, the skill levels and the training. We just have to look at the trade-offs. Parent coaches are necessary.

To have non parent coaches who show up consistently is a dime a dozen.

Cross checks in the back behind the play. Slashes to the head/face. The yellow card play was the dirtiest cross check I’ve ever seen in girls lacrosse.

They clearly aren’t used to losing and handled it poorly.

Massapequa notorious for “physical” play. Legal and not so legal! I’m sure lots of cards to them this year! Dangerous.

My best guess is that they took the L from either Wantagh- Seaford PAL or Bellmore/ Merrick….. leaning more towards the former lol

Was this PAL? Has it changed and suffolk and nassau play each other now? Just curious

Think that has always been the case in recent years.

Have seen some Nassau teams like GC and Manhasset come to west islip and 3 villagaes

None of this seems surprising based off of fall results

YJ doesn't play in the NGLL? Where do they and teams like Aces play in the spring?

Would be much better if all the LI teams played. Maryland has everyone participating. Goes a long way toward readying for the summer tourneys

It’s really too bad YJ and TG don’t play. Shows the selfish nature of their owners I suppose. Full participation by all the teams would be so good for Long Island and all the girls.

NGLL still a great league without YJ….

Would also say, we see all the Long Island teams enough that we are considering withdrawing our A team from Queen of the island and sending our B team.

Really no need for Queen of the island is we are playing most teams from Long Island. My prediction is that Queen of the island will fade

One more point on Queen of the island… If they don’t do a better job at briinging teams from Maryland, NJ, CT… you’ll start to see some Long Island clubs not participate. Especially now with the NGLL

NGLL Mid-Atlantic has all the Maryland teams and Northern Va teams participating. Some of their divisions have over 20 teams. It would be great if they can do something similar for NY.

Seems like that’s their goal in NY. They’ve been pretty heavy on social media. Also saw a few Connecticut parents at Long Island NGLL event this weekend helping run the event. can easily see this turn into a much more ongoing and consistent league during the year.. just like youth soccer. Those weekend summer tournaments in the blazing heat are not it. Maybe you keep 1 or 2 max. But a league with games spread out would be a much more healthier approach, especially from a mental health standpoint

YJ will not enter any teams in the NGLL because it is run by a competing company.
TG is not practicing to let the girls focus on school and PAL lacrosse.

The reason the league works so well in Maryland is that they do not have a PAL type of league. The Maryland teams have a winter league and then the NGLL spring league. They are at an advantage when the summer tournaments start as they have been playing together for so much longer.

Pretty silly not to enter if the reason is that it’s run by a competing company. YJ goes to summer genesis and lax for the cure, and Maryland cup and those are run by a competing company. Anyway, not our problems, other teams will just catch up.

YJ still sittting at 6 games at this age group. As a comparison:

M&D- 15 games
Primetime- 12 games
Jesters Black -18 EIGHTEEN! This organization will pass YJ

The team that won the 2030 division NGLL last year isn't even in it this year. I'm not sure it's going to grow the way you think.

The idea that more games means better organization- can you explain that logic? My thoughts are that it is more important how much teams are practicing and developing players at a developmental age.

Practices at game speed are minimal at this age group which is why actual game experience supersede practices

Agree. It is also a shame that there is no B bracket here at this age. In terms of population, this is one of the biggest grades (if not, the biggest) on Long Island. We reached out in Feb and there was only 1 B team participating/ signed up. Disappointed in all the club directors on LI that constantly yap about growing the game and then u get this.. and already giving up on 10/11 year old kids… awful.

Top guns and yellow jackets won’t do it because they can’t make any money off it. Yellow jackets will sign up for queen of the island and any spring league run by Long Island Lacrosse Journal. They only do that because they are partners in those events

Lax On Elite also doesn't do it even though they won it last year because of some things with the team they beat in the finals.

When we got the teams that were participating Igloo was the only organization with a team in the B bracket. Not associated with them but kudos to giving your girls an opportunity to play. The rest of Long Island… shameful…

Think you have 1 or 2 more years max to find the right club.
