@BackOfTheCAGE
It's the start of the Fall 2017/Summer 2018 season. Use this thread for your posts regarding this age group
Clean slate. Let's all take advantage of this and leave the cruelty and bashing behind.
what do tryout numbers look like this year? Interested to see Hero's 2025. I'm assuming the 2026 kids will drop. How will that affect them.
how were tryout numbers for Hero's? Hoco? Coppermine starts today. M&D/Skywalkers/Redshirts later this week.

any major changes?
It looked like there were easily 70 to 80 girls there for the heros tryouts. I saw quite a few mnd and skywalkers backpacks and the intermingling of the bitmore cinch bags and a few blue ones that did not look familiar - it began with an m. How did the hoco and bitmore tryouts look - they were yesterday too, right.

A free tryout will attract tons of players, especially at this age level because most are new to club.
noticed that alot of these clubs have 3 tryout dates. is it mandatory to attend all 3? do you have a better chance if you go to all 3? Are you better off attending the last 2 tryouts, vs the first 2 tryouts?

how easy is it to attend 1 session of Heros, M&D, and Skywalkers? is that frowned upon? What are you thoughts on playing for CLUB 1 in 1, CLUB 2 in Year 2, would it be hard to go back to Club 1 in Year 3?

I think you should be fine attending just the second or maybe even just the third tryout date. Do they really need to see that much of your daughter?
Just send the coach and director of which ever program it is that you had your annual family vacation scheduled for that week and could not miss the time at the beach. The coaches will understand - there' s nothing wrong with a little rest and recovery.
As far as playing for different clubs - we don't subscribe to that because my daughter has been happy with her current club. But, I do know of quite a few families that starting at about this age or 6th grade will play for a different club. We've heard of girls going from heros to mnd and then are now at Diamonds as their 3rd club in 3 years. I'm not sure if they've tried to go back to the first club, but, then again there is an example of playing in 3 different clubs in 3 years.

What are peoples thoughts on Coppermine? They seem like an up and coming club! They will have all the facilities that you want? indoor/outdoor, turf/grass.

I thought the Coppermine offense design on the 2024 team last year was excellent. The defense was some sort of zone that the girls had no concept of how to play.
When will Heros post their roster? Skywalkers or Coppermine. M&D has posted theirs! Looks like Redshirts 24 girl is a new edition and a C2 girl.
Wow how do you know the background of 10 yo girls?
Are less girls playing club lacrosse or is it just age groups? Seems like 2025 and 2026 are struggling to have full teams. W5r2a5

Who's struggling? Tons of 2025 teams out there. 2026 is new this year but most clubs have them.
I heard from a parent within Hero's that they had about 75 girls tryout for the 25's. The same person told me that they will likely have (2) '26 teams & a '27 team as well.

Why do you say that? Please define a full team. Are you basing this on the fact that there are rosters with only 18 to 20 players. If that's the trend - I'm all for it. The 25 girls and 2 goalies is ridiculous and a total cash grab.

That sounds just like a Heros parent.
interesting that Hero's had 75 girls at tryouts, but the roster stayed the same for a handful of girls replacing the girls going to 26 Green. M&D had almost a 50% turnover. waiting on Redshirts and Skywalkers to post their rosters.

Why do you even care about who is on what roster...get a life
Looking to put my 2025 daughter on a local team in Harford County and it seems my only options are NEMS and ELITE. Do you have any advice/feedback on which club would be better? Looking to receive solid training and have my daughter learn team ball.
Which level of competition are you looking for? NEMS would play more of a A/B level, where as Elite would be more of a B/C level.

Really just looking for club with best track record for developing players. I imagine the better the competition, the more improvement you'll see in players.

Considering your location, consider TLC.

Yes, I'll have to consider TLC. Just wanted to hear personal experiences from those who have kids on the teams. Maybe those with a kid on TLC, NEMS, or ELITE could share their feelings about how their team has developed the kids lacrosse skills.
this late in the game, the top clubs have already had tryouts and filled out rosters. M&D, Hero's, Skywalkers, etc. TLC did not have a 2025 team last year. NEMS i think played with a combined 24-25 team, and Elite did not have a 2025 team. Redshirts needs players, and i feel that they have good instruction, but it seems people have issues with them for some reason.
at this stage, i believe its all about having a stick in your hand and playing. I would stay away from teams who's philosophy is having the best girl get the ball, and go straight to goal every time.
Coppermine is the best club for your child. Consistent instruction. Best facilitites. Class organization and director. Communication is transparent. Will just get better.
Coppermine plays the weak tourneys. they are afraid to play in tourneys where Hero's/MND/Skywalkers play.
You’re wrong in every statement you make. For example prime time young guns. But thats not even an important statement versus growth of player and program. The team is a year old relax.
Didn't see you guys at Laxin Out Loud? Lax for the Cure? Those all had type flight competition. You guys head to Hershey and Beach Lax to play C level teams.
Ouch... Fall Ball hasn't even started and the daggers are out. Best advise is to whenever possible try to avoid a parent coach. There are a few that are really good but as an overall rule that is a safe bet. In addition at this point playing A, B or C is irrelevant. Just get the stick in your daughters hand and work with her outside of practice. If you do that and she is still interested she will be fine. All this talk of player development is a bit of a pipe dream. Even the best coach has your daughter for at best 2-4 hours a week at practice. Factor in 20 girls that he/ she has to work with, there just isn't enough time to get the reps in. Take notes on what your coach is doing at practice and do those same drills at home.
So intense about a first year 4th grader team. Must be planning on getting a scholarship 😂
Originally Posted by Anonymous

No talk of scholarships. Just being logical. I'm spending all the time and money, should look for whatever will give the best return for investment. At this stage, for young children, the best return on investment will be getting solid foundational skills.
How is fall ball practice going!! 2 weeks for most teams until PYG.
Sounds like hoco posted up strong this weekend ... without their goalie. Looks like they added some girls.
What was the results of the Prime Time Young Guns? Information does not get updated on tournament website.
Fall tournaments are always tough because most teams are not at full strength (many kids are playing multiple sports). That being said, YJ looks to be the cream of the crop.

That’s becaus it’s not a tournament. It’s a glorified Playday with no championships. Everyone had fun, thats the result.
How did YJ do against Hero's Green and HoCo?

Oh good. That was my main concern and the concern of all those parents paying thousands of dollars a year. As long as their having fun, let's not have a serious conversation about how the teams did on a lacrosse website. I think it would be better to host an event at Chuck E. Cheese next time as there is much less cost and the kids can still have fun.

YJ Beat them both
Who did M&D black play, and how did they do?

Get a grip. 5th grade girls. Try to enjoy yourself, or at least let her.
M&D beat Hero's by 1, Pride by 2 or 3, BCC by about the same and tied HoCO after spotting them 4 goals (though I believe HoCo's starting goalie was missing). Should be a vey fun competitive season when soccer season is over an all of the teams have full rosters.
What the scores were last weekend in Hagerstown? I think a few of these teams played again & Aces (from NY) joined in on the fun, how did it play out?
Go to tourney machine for results.

Sunday games got rained out
Hoco ends this weekend laxclash champs beating coppermine in the ship after tying in round robin play. We also split with Nems. The wining coming during the semis. Decent weekend in nasty conditions.

Are you talking about the 2025 first division at the polo grounds? I thought it was NEMS and Coppermine in the championships game.
Hoco did not play in the championship. They went 1-1-1 in pool play.

Um, that's where you would be wrong .. They beat Nems in the semis and coppermine in the ship .. 2-1.

4 teams in the tourney. All 4 made playoffs. Hoco beat Nems and coppermine when it mattered.

Yes. 2025 at polo grounds. Again we be at Nems in semis and coppermine in finals.

Thanks HoCo propaganda minister. Is HoCo that desperate to get players that they need to try these kinds of tactics. If you really want to look like a legit club - then take on the mnd's, heros and skywalkers. And WIN!
Hoco with multiple illegal sticks. Sad to be taught rhis in 5th grade. Coppermine definitely the better and classier club.

Hahahhahahahahhaha please. Keyboard warriors in full effect. Please tell me what "tactics" were on display here. Oh zero. Exactly. Nice try joker. I just posted about our weekend. And responded when someone said it was false info. Propaganda minisister. Wow what a reach. I'm not surprised by that kind of response here ... have fun trolling .. just please try to be a little more relevant next time.

Awe. Sour grapes, really showing that cl-[lacrosse]. We're teaching illegal pockets?! Hahaha. Rain can effect the depth of a pocket you know. I'm sure that's why you lost.

Side note in 3 years with the club that's the first illegal stick call I've ever seen.

Wow you guys are a trip.

I'm curious, did Coppermine really call for stick checks in a 5th grade game?

Twice. But you know, They are the classier club.

One resulted in a goal being waved off. The other was found within regulations and the goal counted. The final score was actually 3-1 a fourth goal taken down. The interesting thing is the stick check came from a player on the field. So they must be teaching their girls that after giving up a goal ... call for a stick check, maybe that'll keep the score down hahaha. Thats the definition of clASS.

if Hoco (any age group) played M&D, Heros or Skywalkers each one could probably put up 15 goals in each game against Hoco
HoCo lost to M&D 24's black a few weekends ago by 2 goals

Good to know that about Coppermine and what they are teaching their girls. I hope other clubs are taking note of that and double checking their sticks before playing Coppermine. That's truly low calling for stick checks in a 5th grade game. I wonder how they would feel if teams did it to them with a running clock.

Hoco 25s tied M&D and lost to hero's by 1 goal in the last minute a couple weeks ago with a back up goalie ..... these arguments are invalid. #fakenews

Good it is just fall lacrosse. It will give all of us a chance to work on our stick and cheating skills to catch up to the all powerful HOCO team.
Winner of all the best fall tournaments out there. YEAH Losers
So girls being taught to play with grossly illegal sticks is fair and appropriate?

This is all completely ridiculous. I simply made a post about our lacrosse weekend. The weekend of some 5th grade girls. I said nothing about our team being great or anything negative about any other clubs. I was met with lies and insults. It's pretty disheartening but I should have known better than to trust this cesspool. Bet if you had to sign your name to every comment you wouldn't say a word here. I hope your girls can continue to love the game through all of your scholarship counting. Disgusting.
Just an FYI- HOCO ALSO called for a stick check on the Coppermine player, and her stick was legal...
Since when are stick checks even allowed at this age? When games are already 25 minutes short that seems crazy.

We will see how Hoco does this weekend at Mid Atlantic.

Um. No. Once again please be relevant. Hoco is not playing this weekend because a large portion of the team play Warhawks field hockey and they have a tournament this weekend. You know, multi sport athletes. Probably don't know what that is as you're busy chasing scholarships at 5th grade. And it is technically off-season for lax. Clowns.
Its so funny how mnd skywalkers heros only play each other in tournaments. Money grab??? Its the fall

Yup. And TLC. As they get older - mix in Yellow Jackets and Steps. "Steel sharpens steel"
There are so many ridiculous comments in this thread, I'm waiting for an "I know you are, but what am I" response.

If you are happy with the club, coaching & experience your child is getting, PERFECT, thats why its supposed to be about. Why care or trash talk over another families choice? Seriously, get a life and use your time more productively. Making false claims surely isnt making you or your club look better. This "Anonymous" commenting should end.

Stupid banter like this is already making the news, lets set a better image of the sport & parents:

"Parents' bad behavior can make its way from the sidelines to the internet. The youth lacrosse website Back of the Cage is a forum for the lacrosse community across the Mid-Atlantic."

Bookem Danno lol ... what kind of passive aggressive power tripping comment is that? Explains alot really.
I have a problem with law enforcement bragging about all their "might and power" like I am supposed to be intimidated by your job title. If I were you I wouldn't brag about being a cop, I'd be trying to show the rest of my community that I am a "good guy" and not one that will profile people and use my "authority" to fuel the ridiculous arguments by suburban parents.

That's seems like a really broad and general response. Law enforcement could be one of the million types of jobs around the DC/MD/VA gov corridor.
Passive aggressive - power tripping - comments while hiding behind the anonymous curtain. I love this forum.
What were the Terp Fall Classic scores?
How old are the Hero's players? I've never seen 5th graders that big. They played great lacrosse though. Very nice passing.

9-6 vs Skywalker

Agreed. Watching these teams definitely shows NGLL is going to be exciting. Looks like Sky Walkers has some work to do on their defense.
we feed them chicken with steroids

Yet here you are on a 5th grade forum. Let parents be excited, sheesh. There’s nothing wrong with it.
Hero's is going to be tough to beat!!

It’s most likely a Hero’s parent getting you worked up. It’s the Hero’s way. It will get much worse in the coming weeks. So just relax.
What camps are most people looking at for summer? Maryland camp seems great, but not sure with the large number of girls.
All of them are a wast of time and resources till your in the 8th grade. Better off getting some individual training from a lax trainer. After about a hour of training a day your wasting there time.
Need a place to park my kids while I work and support the family. So what camps are worth while.
Go to a campnthat doesn’t cater to the younger set.
Do some college camps.
Navy summer camps -crabcakes and DTA

M&D beats Hero's all day when they play a full game.. The 10 min 1/2 don't count

These are 5th graders, some days they will win and some days they will lose. Focus on their love for the game. Focus on having a healthy kid who is active. Who beats who on any given day is nonsense. All of these girls are awesome!
M&D B2B NGLL Champs. Ya Hurd it here 1st!
Why do you say that? League is very good. Hero’s, Coppermine HOCo and LBC all have strong teams. These are 10/11 year old girls. You don’t know what they will bring to each game. Let’s just wait and see before we anoint a team back to back champs.
And who really cares except the helicopter parents. 11 y/o aren't being recruited and when they do the individuals not the teams get the scholly's
The competition has gotten better but this is still a 2 dog race with Hero's and M&D. M&D has one of the best coaches for this age group (and maybe the country) and added depth to an already talented team. For that reason I am confident the girls will repeat. But hey the games need to be played.
The games got played
Did LBC change their game plan in the finals.
What happened to M&D-they had the greatest coach and talent?
That's a great question!! as the person stated earlier "These are 10/11 year old girls. You don’t know what they will bring to each game". sounds like LBC had the game of their life, and M&D didn't show up.

Far from the best coaches. And no repeat. I smell coaching change.

They didn’t show up? It was a one goal game you bozo.
Great spring league. Very talented girls. Looking forward to a competitive summer.
How was opening weekend of Lax at Good Counsel and College Park? did the games go on?
Does anyone know how M&D did today against the YJ team ?
According to the Tourney Machine app YJ beat M&D 9-5.
M&D got their revenge in the LFTC Championship Game this past weekend, they won the rematch 3-2
New Egypt HS is not the greatest venue. It would be nice to be at Princeton or somewhere with air moving . At least there were backpacks not tee shirts for winning. If you asked the girls they may have wanted to do Beach Tourney and have fun -they are 11 y/o.
Not sure why 5th graders are playing in recruiting tourneys anyway. Great way to burn the girls out early-just wait till recruiting years and playing into late July. Maybe some family time in the summer?
Great display of sportsmanship after the championship game between M&D and Hero's this weekend. Its nice to see fierce competitors on the field grow into friendships off. These girls have a lot of lacrosse in front of them and they are going to be fun to watch. Good luck to both teams this weekend.

Its usually not the kids who are the problem. Adults are the worst part of youth sports.
Unfortunately those nice girls get recruited and turn into something else-and the parents worse. Enjoy it for 2 more years

Quite the generalization there. Chin up buttercup, life is good. Smile a bit.
what kind of numbers are we expecting at tryouts this year? Heros, MND, Skywalkers, Coppermine, Redshirts, etc. Doesn't seem like there is any turmoil going on this year (C2 exploding, Redshirts 24 leaving). Coppermine really needs to upgrade its tourney schedule, will not attract the best talent if they don't play against the big boys. That Skywalkers team is very intriguing, seems like they play teams tough. Heros and MND are still the top 2 teams, but it seems like MND is starting to pull away.
