Agreed, but the point was take it easy on coach Skakandi, she does a great job. Why does Thorn have to be the best coach in the world just because your daughter is on the team? Trying to justify the second team is the place to be because they will get better coaching and will beat the blue team any day now is demeaning to everyone associated with the other team.

Coaching a blue team and winning certainly does not make someone a good coach. Put all the top talent on one team and its hard for a coach to screw up. A good coach on the other hand can take second team players, coach em up and in time produce a better team that actually plays like a team, without girls who hold on to the ball dodging, pulling back re setting, redodging and going to goal yet again. You can have multiple strong players on the field who can all take it to the cage, and you will win some games like that for now, but as they get older that style of play will disappear especially against better teams who can play defense.Down the road bad coaches get exposed.

The pulling back and resetting without even a look to their teammates happens all the time and then when they do pass they usually have 1 friend they will pass to. Once they get the ball you can stop running because it is never going to get passed back. They are shooting for the 7th grade call up to varsity, the 9th grade commitment to college and to be the scoring leader in newsday beating up on weak teams by scoring 10 a game. SELFISH!!

Agree 100%, from watching it happen too many times. Unfortunately, they seem to get ALL those things you mentioned in the last sentence...especially the 7th grade call up, and it's really too bad...

Like it or not, the extreme selfish play started when travel really took off. Now everything is about call ups, letters of intent and scholarships. Its a business for the travel owners (I think someone on the topgun thread estimated $300-500k per year) And its also a business for the parents who are looking for a return on their investment which at $2,000 - $3,000 per year is sizable when you start in 1st grade!

Return on investment? I have seen so many references to this on this thread. What a pathetic way to view what is supposed to be a fun and enriching experience for our daughters. You people treat them almost like they are horses to be bred and trained for a profit. In fact I have heard exactly that from one father on the sidelines. Thought he was joking at first. He wasn't. Not to mention the fact that in just about every instance, the so called ROI is negative.

Please, please, please let the girls enjoy this great sport. Let them play because they love it, not because they are supposed to get mom and dad a return on their "investment". Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, is it about me or is it about my daughter? Hope fully the right answer will be staring you in the face.

Ours didn't last year, or this year, and there will be probably be 7th graders again next year...it's a joke, and having these 12 year old girls makes no difference in the outcome of any games, or the final record...it's unnecessary and a joke! I could see if they were impact players, resulting in more wins...not the case at all!

She has started every game since 9th grade and is a major part of the teams success. If lucky enough maybe 2 8th graders will be called up to JV and thats it. Juniors on Varsity this year played JV last year and are D1 committed . The Juniors wait their turn and start on Varsity and are impact players.

In our town if you pay the coach under the table or give big cash holiday gifts you get on Varsity. That's why we didn't make it out of the county this year!

I graduated last year but can tell you my HS took an 8th grader for the first time when I was on team and despite some upper classmen treating her like complete [lacrosse] out of jealousy she was a huge impact in getting us to the playoffs. I followed her this year while I was at school and not only did she start every game she got All County HM and had most assists AND goals. I knew she would be a record setter, Glad I had the chance to play w her and am here to attest that YES, some of the younger girls can be impact players. The older girls (who thankfully graduated this year, they were mean to everyone not just the younger girls) need to learn how to work as a team with the up and comers. Lacrosse is a great sport and I have found it to be much better on the collegiate level where teamwork and bonding is part of the practice and unlike HS continues year round.

You are obviously from ESM, and clueless, the 7th and 8th graders had nothing to do with your loss. I would also say many of those 7th and 8th graders have more experience playing lacrosse than many of the older kids.

We won't make finals. We are playing curcio 1st game and we will not beat them with this team
