To be totally honest, if that is the story, it sounds like EA is filled with incompetent administrators and authority figures(i.e coaches). Inmates running the asylum. It's not that Malvern is some sort of shining gem. I believe 99% of schools would have dealt with that scenario in a way to punish the students responsible for the destruction of school property. That's a no-brainer.

But then again, this is private school lacrosse. It literally doesn't get more privileged than this...and why the sport has the reputation it has.

The students always hit the sign when they walked up the hill before home games. (not after the game like someone said earlier)
It was never a safety issue; It was never a liability issue (only an absolute maniac would suggest that)
No one ever said anything re: hitting it or not hitting it until after that day.
It never needed to be replaced prior to that day.
It wasn't destroyed, just knocked off the post.
Some sad person secretly filmed it and sent to EA administration.
The players who could be ID'd were gonna be suspended for their Malvern Game
There is no precedent that made that decision justified and Coach Bates defended the boys.
No one should have been expelled - that would have been an insane and psychotic move.
EA did not do the right thing.
Ive played with and against Malvern kids since Stoga youth ball. Great lacrosse players, but Coach Bates has more Augustinian Values in his pinky finger than all of them combined.

1st guy here has it right, it is all true - my son was a senior on the team. HM and AD enraged over 50 school parents by taking reckless action against the students over a trivial matter and all the while deflecting responsibility. Sadly this seems like a pattern of behavior. The cover up, however, does not seem to be going as planned and the recent letters outlining the dire situation seem to be leaking. Any reasonable parent understandably would be very concerned if a school was interfering with the academic and athletic future of their child. Some of the leaked emails to the school from parents seem to be outlining significatn concerning HR problems with several admins (#metoo).

Captain Kangaroo Todd Fairlie the AD~ how about letting EA parents and players know that you hired someone?

I’m not the author of this post, but parents pleaded with Admin, specifically Head of School TJ Locke and Athletic Director Todd Fairlie, to meet via Town Hall to discuss player actions leading to the firing of Coach Bates.

Parents were told there would be no meeting. Offers from parents to pay for the damage or to have the team do community service were either ignored or denied by admin.

To date, no players have been punished for their actions/destroying school property. Fairlie or Locke have never met with players to discuss their actions.

To date, parents have not been contacted about the sign.

Sounds like EA is moving on from this situation and hiring a coach who will be able to handle the student athletes. Not sure there is much to gain from EA punishing the graduating players that were a big part of the issue. This would never happen at Malvern.

Makes sense since Cabrini is going to cease operations

What a revelation. This whole time, we have heard from the EA parents about how this stop sign incident was so unjust... nobody is talking to them about the stop sign...they will pay for the stop sign... the AD is a soooo terrible...the admin is sooo terrible.

The real story is probably much simpler. The AD and admin is highly connected. Knew this Cabrini situation was coming down the pike, Canned the guy they didn't like, hired the totally amazing coach that hadn't even hit the market yet.

Sounds like a great lax environment over there at EA. Hopefully these parents are graduating for the sake of the program. really demostrated their true colors here and it was pretty gross.

Good coach coming in at EA. Entitled kids and parents on their way out. Win-Win.

All those rich parents whose kids didn't get playing time since their kids [Censored] are really excited for the coaching change. Since Bates wouldn't accept payment for playing time, they moved on to someone else who will.

This is completely out of line and uncalled for. If you are going to call out the real issue, it was letting the spoiled players with talent get away with way too much. Those seniors (and some Juniors) would not have been able to graduate from other schools for the stuff they pullled. Bates let them get away with it.

The EA Athletic Department works in collaboration with the Head of Upper School and the Form Deans to hold students accountable while representing the Academy. These various leaders use constant and effective communication to protect the physical and emotional well-being of ALL the students. The hitting of the Stop Sign posed significant safety and liability issues. Can you imagine if one of the players bumped their head on it? Or if it hit someone's foot after it fell off? Chris was held accountable for their actions. I don't really see what all the confusion is about. If this happened at Malvern, the same results would have occurred but the irony is that it wouldn't ever happen at Malvern (see above re: Augustinian Values). EA does not play the entitlement game.

It's pretty clear that this whole incident wasnt' about a stop sign. current head coach had to be moved out so they could hire the new guy. My guess is that the news got out that Cabrini was going away. AD reached out. New guy wouldn't entertain any inquiries to non-vacant job. So they made the job vacant to get their guy. it's business y'all. Protect ya neck.

Didnt attend any fancy degree place but pretty sure putting down employees, players, students, alums aint a good look am I right? That’s not leadership and what not

Penn charter alum (OPC '92) coming in peace. my nephew told me this is the closest thing to the old laxpower forum. just spent some time reading and laughing at the past month or so comments. sounds like EA is a dumpster fire from the top down. [Censored] for the players that they are caught up in all the fighting between parents and AD (captain kangaroo comment made me LOL)

anyone have any idea who PC is gonna hire? Sounds like there is an opportunity for them to get back to the top of the interac like the good old days? or am I too far removed from the scene?

Colleen has the PC girls as good as they’ve ever been and she’ll continue to succeed there. As for the boys, not sure they’ll ever be what they once were, regardless of who they hire.

My son plays on the Team TEN 27 team and overall a good experience with coaching/practices/facility. But there is discontent with politics of playing time and “scholarships” for certain players. And with a-lot of players guest playing with other teams at NLF things might fall apart. Which stinks because I spent over 1000 bucks at the team store.

oh yes... the annual tryout season rumor that all the top teams are going to "fall apart" because everybody is discontent with playing time. I'm sure Team Ten will not fall apart because NXT'ers will backfill any roster positions that open up due to 10'ers departing for "greener" pastures. d

I guess what goes around comes around. I'm pretty sure we can go back in the archive on this very forum and see the panic that happened at this age group just two years ago that lead to the current Team Ten success. Tigers imploded when they reached high school. Will Team Ten follow the same arc? I doubt it as it's a real organization (unlike Tigers which was a one off vehicle). So Team Ten will most certainly survive whatever psy-op is thrown their way this tryout season.

It's not a bad idea to get your son on the "right" high school club team as you exit middle school. If you are happy with the current club program, fantastic, if you think your son will benefit by having tougher competition then try to move to a better team.

They are going to high school and equal or "fair" playing time should no longer be guaranteed. If your not playing you should move to a team where your son will play even if you can't wear all of your fancy team ten swag
