Several of the top players came over to AA this year from American Select. It will definitely hurt American Select this year. Last year they didn’t fair so well even with them on the team. Didn't the MD 2026 team win American Select last year? How did they not fare well? Referring to 2025.

It was a great one. Man Valley pulled it out 10-9 in OT, now they have the tall task of playing Northeast HS of Anne Arundel County, who beat Duval 8-7. This MPSSAA system is a joke.
2A has 1. Man Valley vs 8. Northeast (AA)
4/5 CMW vs Decatur
2. Middletown vs coin flip lost of 7. Hereford or Eastern Tech
3. Calvert vs Coin flip winner of 6. Herford or Eastern Tech
Calvert, Eastern Tech, and Northeast (AA) can't touch any of those other schools left standing, let alone Century and Glenelg. There has to be a better way. What is the better way? The system is geographically based. There is no easy way to do it when Western MD is 5 hrs from Ocean City and Elkton is 4 hrs from California. There are almost 300 high schools in MD, the only way to do it is geographically. The regions are seeded based on records. Not everyone can play the same teams, so you make the best of your schedule and see where you end up. If you play tougher competition, you risk losses, but also challenge your team more. The past few years, all 4 defending state champs have played a 4 team tourney in season so the champs can face each other. If you make it out of your region, they re-seed the winners for the state tournament, to try to get the better teams on opposite sides. We all know that the majority of top lax clubs are in the central MD area, so it makes sense that the top high school programs will be as well. And the top schools and top coaches will continue to put out good teams vs those with lesser coaching. So unfortunately, top teams will be in the same region in many cases. It is what it is. Just dont get all the detest for the system - what is the better option?[/quote] 1.) have even regions. Don't set the regions months in advance. They are unweighted to begin with and some of the smaller regions have schools that never field a team or never field for playoffs, so their count is even smaller. There shouldn't be 0, 1 or 2 teams in 1 region, and 7 in the other. So when they determine how many schools will field teams in the playoffs, take that number and divide by 8 and then look on a map. 2.) Keep classes uniform. 1A schools shouldn't have to play 2A schools they have no shot against. The game will grow much faster if smaller schools think they can be successful if they start a team. 3.) They'll never do this, but do some kind of weighted seeding, not just based on record. Losing to Glenelg and Man Valley shouldn't count the same as losing to Easton and Duval.

Teams that play terrible schedules will have a good record and get a higher seed and then get destroyed in the semifinals or finals. They need to incorporate strength of schedule into the reseeding process and not just for lax- it is a problem in other sports as well.

It’s not all conference. It’s team mops. Some get 4. Some get 1 Needs to be selected by position. Pick the top goalies, defense and attack and don’t give a spot to a player on an 0-14 team. 20 players seems like a good number to honor and maybe do a 2nd team. 22 of the 26 are offensive players.

Then it wouldn’t be ALL conference, would it. That’s the point, ALL. Just because a team is 0-14 means absolutely nothing. There are deserving players on losing teams too. What if your daughter was the leading points scorer in the conf on an 0-14 team. Clearly from your post, your head would spin if she wasn’t acknowledged. So sit down.

They should go to a 1, 2 and HM model with each position represented. If you have to throw a bone to a girl in each program, she is HM. I'm surprised the 0-14 coach didn't have his daughter make it.
It's hard to argue with the selections from the top 5 teams though.

My bet is girl at MCD on the bench would be leading point scorer at Gerstell.

Winless and playing / scoring against backups is not the same as producting vs good teams. My bet is they averaged 4 goals scored vs the top half of the league. And gave up 12+. Nobody deserved it.

Terrible reputation. The team is 0-27 since he took over. And 2nd string attackers on SP, MCD, MVP and Spalding would definitely be leading scorers on that team. They were the only team not to score 100 goals in conference. It was sad to watch really. Even the parents seemed disinterested.

Someone posted anonymously that a 24 committed goalie from a MD team in the top 5 of the country is moving to gulf coast of Florida.
Pretty easy to figure out that they are talking about the GCS goalie who is committed to USF. That's a huge loss for them especially with the Byrnes leaving. Great goalie in every game I saw her play. I'm sure she isn't leaving for greener pastures ... just the whole family moving south.
Side note - why do people post things that make it so easy to determine who it is?

Person posting anonymously as a friend gave away too much info to figure it out. Maryland, 24 commit, top 5 in the country and a goalie. Two girls fit that description. One is definitely not moving to Florida based on family ties and college. The other is committed to USF. I don't know the girl or her family but it sure makes it easy to deduce.

I'm sure they will still be competitive but the window does seem to be closing.

As the OP, I should have added the disclaimer that this is far from fact and based on a FB post so it is to be trusted as many of the rumors that originate on here. If it is true, I wouldn't blame the family one bit. The odds of a full scholarship are minimal so establishing residence 15 months ahead of time could be a huge savings for the family. I hope it doesn't cause a snowball effect. The IAAM needs more teams competing for the top spot, not less.

Who do you think will win the trophies in Maryland Public?
1A is Tuesday at 4, Fallston vs Liberty - I'm saying Liberty by 12 2A is Thursday at 8, Manchester Valley vs Middletown- I'm saying Man Valley by 4 3A is Thursday at 4, Towson vs Severna Park- I'm sayingTowson by 2 4A is Wednesday at 6, Broadneck vs Dulaney- I'm saying Dulaney by 2
Hope it is competitive because besides CMW / Man Valley & Westminster / SP, we had some very very uncompetitive semi final games.

Can't do it after the finals due to MPSSAA regulations unfortunately. That being said, they have had the 4 defending State Champions all play each other in a tournament the following spring the past few years.
Pretty sure Liberty won it this year and Century won it in 2022.

Public schools need to get rid of the first 3 rounds of the tourney. So many of overmatched teams and teams who don’t deserve to be in it. Same with the boys. “Everybody qualifies!”

1A won’t be much of a game. Liberty should win it easily. For everyone complaining about the ease of playoffs for them, nothing they can do but play the games. Not to mention they lost one game all year and that was to Man Valley. 2A shouldn’t be much of a game. It really depends on which Man Valley team shows up. Their offense is a juggernaut that has 7 girls who can finish. Try to stop options 1-3 and 4-5 step up with huge games like they did against CMW. However, they did struggle as a team to find the net on Saturday. Watching the game I would venture to guess they had 2-3 times the shots as CMW. That game could have been a 10 goal win. With that said, they found a way to win. Don’t count Middletown out but they have a hill to climb if they want to know of MV. 3A should be a great matchup. Probably the best of the final 4. I can see this one going either way. SP is a solid team and finally got over the heart ache of last years loss to Ridge. They fought back and managed to stun Westminster in the semis with 2 goals in the final minute. Towson is loaded with upper class man who have played well together and for a long time. I expect they are favored in this game by many by look for SP to give them a game. 4A is Broadneck to lose. They are by far the stronger team and should be able to win this one convincingly. However looking at Dulaney schedule and results. They do have some impressive games where they overachieved and almost pulled some upsets. So hopefully they can make it a game and who knows. Maybe pull of the upset.

As an IAAM parent who has only seen one of the public schools this year, I am genuinely curious what people think about where these 8 teams would end up if they were in the IAAM.

Why so you can justify your tuition check? Not the case at all. I know Glenelg, MV, Century, SP, Broadneck and other teams are all really good teams. Being new to high school girls lax, I thought some would have an idea.
