Not just dumped....if you feel you need better players, so be it, this is top level lacrosse. They straight up lied to existing players about the security of their position . Told some not to come to the 3rd tryout when they slid Looneys kids in and offered them their spot after a 1 hour "tryout" show. Not the most Christian way they could have done it.

It’s sports. Not church. Hit the wall.
Correct. It’s sports. But there is a respectful way of letting kids go who have been committed to a team, and then there’s the FCA way.

What did you expect when better talent arrives on the field to contest different positions? Sorry your son is riding bench or gone from team. Life Lessons, Iron sharpens Iron

Correct. It’s sports. But there is a respectful way of letting kids go who have been committed to a team, and then there’s the FCA way.

Here is a quick history lesson on FCA. The organization was founded in 1954 in Kansas City, and has a substantial presence nationwide combining faith with sports. It lends its name to two lacrosse programs, one in upstate NY and one in Baltimore, but has zero involvement in running those programs. It is not as if they have priests or ministers making decisions on rosters and coaches. It is run by Baltimore lax bros cut from the same cloth as Crabs, 91, Looneys, and all the others. They know lacrosse just fine (on a good day), but nobody ever said they have good people skills or business skills. I don't think the folks in Kansas City are paying attention. So you are kidding yourself if you think FCA will do things differently than any other club because the word Christian is in its name.

Take a step back and look at what is happening. Crabs have successfully raided both FCA and Looneys over the past 1-2 years, so now the remaining elite players on those two are combining into one team. It is a tough process but eventually everyone will land on a team that is the right fit.

There is alot of truth to this.

Seems like people are disappointed by the process and the way it was handled. If it was truly a fair tryout, it likely would have been easier to stomach. FCA was requiring players to attend tryouts, but then took players that didn't come to any tryouts. Clearly deals were done behind the scenes with better players NOT getting offers. Fact of the matter is FCA took in $6k in tryout registration fees alone - with ZERO spots up for grabs. The team was set before tryouts started. The second team only enabled this to happen.

When the dust settles, the top FCA team will be half Looneys and half FCA, with both coaches on the sidelines. Sounds like a disaster. The second team will be filled with kids that will have something to prove - and might surprise some folks.

FCA has done this for years and its probably true for most clubs. Tryouts aren't really tryouts at certain age groups. The teams are already set and they know who they are cutting and adding before tryouts even begin. There are always exceptions, but I think for the most part this is accurate and yes, they seem to be money makers for the clubs, taking in $40-$60 a kid.

So FCA will have 2 2026 teams? What about the 2025 Looney kids or the 2027 - 2030 Looneys kids?

Looneys didn't have any teams below 2026. As for the 2025 players, I believe that there were only about 12 on the roster when they showed up for the first practices in May. Not enough to field a team. It was criminal that the organization did not let those players know that fact until it was too late to find another club for the Summer. Not sure where those guys went.

If any player displaced by Looney's folding or by not making another team, give MD Roughriders 2026 a try:

MD Roughriders 2026 tryouts tonight, 7/26, at Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Catonsville, 6-8PM

As a parent of a 2029, I haven’t had any near/direct experience with looneys other than I know it was once a Prominent club.

Can someone explain what happened? I know they attempted to start a 2028 team last year and that never got off the ground.

Be patient, as the Looneys always get it together, and the mix is always good.

Looney's used to be a large club, with both boys and girls teams. It was founded as a nonprofit, with a board and a director who was paid to run the club who was the employee of the board/corporation.

As years went by, the director seemed to lose interest in running and continuing to grow the club. Interest in joining Looney's faded, teams and players left for other clubs, and Looney's was down to just a few teams. The longtime director was either fired or quit in 2020.

A new director was hired, and the club was converted to an LLC. A previous comment on this thread said the LLC is not in good standing with the state of MD.

The club was down to four teams as of the end of this Spring's HOCO season. Parents heard nothing from club leadership after registration last year, and the uncertainty caused people to being looking for other places for their sons to play.

The 2026 team began to fall apart this Spring after relegation from HoCo Elite to the next level down. The coach tried to keep the team together but several players had already committed elsewhere. I believe the 2026 coach went to FCA with a number of former Looney's players.

The 2023s were done with club lax at the end of this tourney season. That left two teams.

The 2025 team fell apart when only about a dozen players showed up for their first Spring practice.

I am not sure of the status of the 2024 team.

Sad to see a club fall apart.

The weirdest thing to me is the club has (had) a connection to an MIAA school. That always will be a draw to players particularly in middle school and high school.

But even with that things still fizzled.

The only reason Preds was able to fill an entire slate of youth teams is they hired an MIAA coach. Then they hired another one.

Where will Loyola get kids? Koopers?

Looney's was a good club that was run coaches who knew the game and generally had a son on the team. The relative success of each team was generally based on the commitment of that teams coaches. The 14,15,16 produced a bunch D1 players including AAs Bryan Constable Ryan Conrad Cole Williams Alex Roesner among others. The 17,18, 19s got decimated when FCA started and took many players and some coaches. 2020's were rock stars with 2 teams that produced 20+ D1 players and another 15 or so D2/3. 2020 Orange was one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the year. 21s were a good not great team with a few D1 kids and several D3. It included the directors youngest son and he stepped aside after the 2020 summer. BTW the club charged $500-1000 less than comparable programs so they weren't charging enough to take money out. 2023s finished out strong with about half the team committed to D1. 24s were very good with 2 teams until the Orange team coach took the team to Crabs. The remnants are coached by the director and mostly LB kids. Looks like the last team. It's a lot of work to recruit elementary school kids and coaches and apparently the current director not inclined to do so. A good run.

There is no Koopers. It's True now.

In a related move, Loyola is holding offseason workouts at Planet Fitness and Curves.

Looney's was not Loyola's club. Loyola has players from many top local clubs and will continue to do so. Some of the best players on the 2024 and 2026 Crabs team are Loyola students, for example.
