Or, maybe the LI girls who committed, have done their homework before 9/1? That’s smart , ready to make their move. The schools they committed to are not unknown schools. Duh

Well considering they weren't allowed to talk to the coaches or be on campus with the current team or attend classes or you know, do the things that everyone should be doing before deciding where to spend the most important 4 years of their lives I'm not sure what homework you are talking about. Not saying they are unknown schools. Yes everyone knows these are good programs. But until you visit your daughter may not know if it is a good program for her. The rush to commit early and for parents to brag on their kids is not a good thing FYI. Duh.

Well the players can't talk to coaches, their club directors can and do frequently-- the last 2 weeks of August are the busiest weeks of the year for most club recruiting directors. Most players especially top ones know who is very interested in them well ahead of Sept. 1st. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or misinformed.

Sure. But what the heck does that have to do with your daughter getting to know the coaches and players on the team? How does that help your daughter get a feel for what the atmosphere is like on campus? How does that allow your daughter to spend a day or two on campus, to attend classes, to ask questions? I'm fully aware with how the process works. Been through it several times with sons and a daughter. If you are comfortable with your daughter picking a college based on second hand conversations as opposed to actually going and visiting to schools and letting your daughter make an informed decision have at it. Just saying it's pretty silly to be pounding your chest about it when others choose to do the responsible thing and take this time to do just that. I'm pretty sure the M&D and SW girls will be committing to these same programs but will be doing so with a lot more information at their disposal having spent time at multiple schools. But go ahead and get your FB updated to brag about little susie committing already.

In all likelihood the big name recruits (the top 15-20 in their class) started the process a year ago. They have been to the campus multiple times, have played on campus at a camp where they met coaches and players, and had an opportunity the past 2 weeks to go back to those few schools and done all of this in more depth and maybe even attended a football game. Many of these top recruits also know current families and players connected to the team. Don't make it out to be more than it is. They narrowed their dream school list down to 2-4 schools (maybe even less) months ago and have been guided by their club coaches who also know the school's and talk to the coaches.

Oh, so you mean they would have to make a decision the way EVERY 2022 had to. No chance to do any of the things you mentioned. The NCAA and coaches truly did a disservice to the 2022 class.

IMO, the top recruits for the class of 23 clearly are not coming from SW, M&D, Hero's as in the past. If you are a top recruit, whether you are visiting schools or not, the decision would be made by now.

I've always been told goalies are usually first to commit, not every school takes a goalie every grad year either, and in that they aren't going to take two unlike other positions, and it becomes more urgent for both the goalies and the school to land their targets

What top program doesn't have this situation? If a program is expecting a goalie to step on campus and start, they messed up in their recruiting a few years prior. Even if a goalie used that as a factor, a quick transfer can ruin that plan, see BC as example.

Chose the school based on the environment, coaches, academics and program not on the depth chart of your Junior year in HS.

^ really? It is day 13, the girls are back in school and visits (plural) work best on weekends of which, not counting Labor Day, there has been 1. Many girls from the clubs you mentioned are visiting (plural) the top programs. Those same girls are weighing high level lacrosse and high level academics in the hope of finding the right fit. It is way, way too early to say any club, clubs or region is doing "better" than another. Is a commitment to Harvard, Yale, Princeton not as good as one to BC, MD, UNC if the girl wants to emphasize academics over lacrosse?

So, you know that they are visiting "plural" top programs? Or are you just speculating? Seems like other out of state programs are able to get it done?

A SW just committed to Princeton. Great get- went to real deserving player too. I wonder what the other studs thought when they weren’t the first to commit. Parents probably pissed. It’s a very fluid process.

For someone unknown to the process, does the player typically have an idea of who is interested in them, likely to offer before Sep 1?
This would allow for unofficial visits over summer, etc

You clearly have no idea what your talking about. The top girls are being courted by multiple schools and unless you have a dream school already picked they are getting visits in now over the next few weeks. These top recruits have lots of options. It will take us at least 2 1/2 more weeks just to get in the rest of the visits in. These are just the official visits.

They do have some idea but a lot of surprises pop up for the best players.

Yes. Generally, players will tell club coaches their top 10-15 targets and the coach will reach out over the summer to the college coaches. College coaches technically cant say if they will offer, but they can make it very clear.

Hope so because lots of commits have come through already and not many MD girls on the list! 67 2023 girl commits and only 8 from Maryland. Sign of the times though. As the sport has grown, perennial Maryland clubs like MDU, Skywalkers, M&D, etc.. are no longer developing the players to the same level as some other clubs like CT Grizzlies, Eaglestix, YJ, Top Guns, Jesters, LI Elite. The Long Island girls are far outpacing the Maryalnd girls and the Connecticut & Atlanta girls are giving everyone a run for their money. As the game has exploded throughout the US, the recruiting landscape has changed significantly. The old club owner/college coach relationship is not always enough anymore. Rude awakening for many 2023 players and parents I am sure!

Sad to say but true. More a matter of resting on laurels. Our MD club has such a laisse-faire attitude towards practicing that has stung.
If there’s bad weather or scheduling conflicts then practice is cancelled and not made up or no practice skills are sent to work on our own.
I know that the owner/ head of JetBlue (Neepier) lived and raised his family for a time up in CT and built the lacrosse program a new stadium up there( they didn’t need a Utahian to do this but it made it nicer).
As for GA there are a lot of transplants down there that make sure the girls are playing at the speed they play up here. Stick skills can be taught.

Actually just a Maryland mom noticing that our MD girls seem to be out recruited the past 2 years. It’s even worse this year compared to last. I was hoping last year was just a Covid fueled one off but this year is looking to confirm that sadly Maryland is no longer the leader in women’s lacrosse.

I am ok with Maryland not being the leader in women's lacrosse if girls continue to commit to the colleges that the 2022 class committed to from the clubs you mention above. Duke, Georgetown, Hopkins, Harvard, Florida, Maryland, UNC, Yale, USC, Stanford, Virginia, etc isnt a bad list.

The top 5 Sky Walker players on 2023 have their choice of schools (top lacrosse schools). I personally know that some of the top players on the SW's have turned down top lacrosse schools to play for schools they love not just because they are considered the best lacrosse schools. Three have already committed to Duke, Princeton and Georgetown because they want the education over just lacrosse. Both these girls could of gone to "better lacrosse schools". Yet for these 3 schools they got top players. 3 out of the top 5 players have committed with 2 being left. Our goalie already committed to Maryland.

Yet for these 3 schools they got top players. 3 out of the top 5 players have committed with 2 being left. Our goalie already committed to Maryland.

Where are the last two girls leaning?

Well shoot. If a Maryland lax mom did her research and noticed something anecdotally, it MUST be true! Case closed, go home everyone!

for the 2022 class according to IL there are 96 MD girls recruited and 120 from NY. Considering the size of MD compared to NY I would say MD is still a hotbed.

Is this combining Upstate with Long Island? To me, they are two different regions.

I would still say, MD would be the tops in nation, with Long Island right there.

that is all of new york. not every recruit reports their commitment on IL though...but it is still a good barometer to see that there is not as much disparity as some think there is. in the end the 23's will probably end up with similar numbers

Regardless, the population of LI alone is 7.7 million which is higher than that of MD as a whole.

Yeah but to be fair, the bulk of LI's population is in Brooklyn (2.59 Mil) and Queens (2.29 Mil), which don't really play lax. Nassau and Suffolk Counties are the lax hotbeds, and they total about 2.837 Mil.

If you add up to populations of Baltimore, Howard, Carroll, Montgomery and Anne Arundel Counties it's less than just Nassau and Suffolk as well.

It's a notIntelligent discussion. Anyone that thinks MD isn't still a lacrosse hotbed is just starting ish. While the game has grown MD and LI still produce a bulk of the talent.
