Use this thread to discuss lacrosse pertaining to 7th Grade Girls (2028 Grads) for the Fall 2022/Summer 2023 Season.
Reposting last post from previous SY:

Probably some big movement and definitely some shake ups on the top teams. Yj just got Bert from MT Siani which could draw some talent that way. This grade is still young so there will still be a decent amount of movement.

WIll he be replacing Jenny as the lead coach? Lots of girls train with her and love her. Could see some of them following her if she coaches elsewhere.
Any thoughts about TG 2028? Who are the coaches?
The same coaches as every other TG team.. the two smiths plus some nonverbal college girls all shuffling around with the the smiths spending more time with the older teams
[quote=Anonymous]The same coaches as every other TG team.. the two smiths plus some nonverbal college girls all shuffling around with the the smiths spending more time with the older teams[/quote

Non verbal college girls like Ellie Masera and Emma Ward....you're right they are awful - maybe look them up
The higher-ups didn't really watch the 2028 tryouts on Sat., although they were there; guess 2028 isn't considered one of the older teams yet.
Just because you’re a good player doesn’t mean you’re a good coach. Sam Apuzzo coached my daughters team a couple years ago and she was the worst. Yes basically non verbal and no energy. And no, I’m not bitter because my daughter didn’t play. I’d rather have Andrew or Shannon coaching my daughter anyway over some these college stars. College girls make horrible coaches from my experience, not just at TG, but at other clubs my daughter played on. Maybe they can be an assistant but don’t let a college girl be a head coach of your daughters team.
I know, the college player that shows up for the month of June but misses practice all year long is great.
I'm curious if anyone knows with their older kids who make the call at YJ tryouts? Do the team head coaches make the call? Or do someone (let say Carol Rose or a YJ director) help in the process? Do YJ tend to keep bench kids on the roster until they leave voluntarily or do they actively cut kids? Especially if you are already on the B team. Try to see if there is room for my daughter to join the B team....
First of all, CR could care less about who makes the B team. Yes. They mostly leave the players on the team even when they should be cut. There is always a little movement, and YJ will always bench your daughter when the next best thing comes along unless you’re the mommy or daddy coach. I’m curious as to why you would think making a b team is something to strive for? Your daughter is in 7th grade, try to get onto an A team at a good club like Legacy, TG, or Jesters before it’s too late!
Top Guns, Jesters and YJ are where the best Nassau girls play. Pretty much spread equally amongst those clubs
Not awful, they are 20 years old. No 20 year old should be head coach of any team, especially when parents are paying good money to the club.
Any thoughts on the Nassau YJ team?
Very talented
They are not top tier but a good middle of pack team
FLG 27 seems to be a very good team. What about FLG 28?
I don’t know if too many girls will be following “Jenny” if she leaves YJ
IsJenny leaving? Have their been issues with her?

Not sure but Bertolone coming is a big upgrade. She just uses the YJ to funnel kids to her private training.
Why stirring the pot?

Is he an outstanding coach? Yes. Will his style work with 7th grade girls? Time will tell.
Any teams pick up new players or lose any players? I heard YJ now has a 4th team?
91 vs YJ HEFTON looked intense. What was the score ?

Was there a live feed of this game between a couple of B/C teams ? How would you know it was intense ? From a couple of Instagram stories on LILJ ?

Not so close… guess the 91 cheerleaders on here are quickly silencing themselves
birth year classifications would change so much in this group

sure it evens out eventually but it does open the door for many girls in the early years

You would have to switch it back before 9th grade for recruiting purposes. Recruiting is done by grad year not by age. So switching it in the younger ages would only be a short term fix and then cause for big tryout switches the summer before 9th grade.
Why???? I don't see it that way. The players playing with their age group will start getting seen in summer one year earlier than the "on age" kids in their grade. They just cant get offered until that following year. There would still be an opportunity for college coaches to watch more games and see those kids again if they really want/need to but of course a bandwidth issue for them. Having an on age system below high school is the way to go and this perceived issue is not at all a good reason to keep the current system in youth. I think the rules can be different in HS, but I don't believe at all a kid has to move teams. great players get seen, great players get found regardless.

First off the minority of kids playing are getting recruited when you consider the total population of players
What’s happened to the yellow jacket lomo team ?

No it only has to be for travel and PAL type leagues. High school obviously can mix. We have to end holdbacks asap

As of Ramos and carranante didn’t just have a hard enough time with their 24s… let’s rehire them for the 28s

What are you talking about hater? Carrannante helped with 24 Wiener and the team did fantansic! Ramos is the B team, so naturally kids do not commit as early. But it's only September! May be they should hire you?

If you made a chance, I would recommend not doing the birth day dates like soccer does, but rather a date more similar to school enrollment dates. Start the years on 8/1. So for 2028s, Eligibility would be more any girl born after 8/1/2009.

Easier said than done -- would need to be done on national level, not just Long Island. Most DC/MD private school recommend kids starting school late so some of the top MD teams would lose half their team if this was implemented.

Good riddance! Bye cheaters
Agree- Carranante is a great addition to a talented team. Future is bright
Back to my original question. Which team is the remnants of the lomo yellow jacket team ?
yj maget would be middle of the pack without their 2009s
Lomo is now Carranante
Has Danielle Gallagher sold Liberty yet?

If every 2028 team got rid of their 2009 girls maget would still be a top team against them. Stop hating.

Any word to who. It has become very much pay to play with all the private workouts that are “optional”. Wondering if this will change with new ownership
Hearing she was trying to sell to another club

couldnt beat liberty even with all those holdbacks

got so bad they had to pull bert out of retirement
Queen of the Island this weekend. Look like it should be a pretty good tournament.

Is this something you really want? Why deny girls a chance to play better competition in middle school?

If you do, they will be shocked when they have to play these same girls in high school when focus moves to recruiting.

The only evenly matched game is maget vs legacy. That one will be a good one to watch. The rest will be blowouts. Who picks these brackets?
Yj maget loses to legacy. Ouch!

Yikes.

But looking at tourney machine that was the only good game.

What do these girls get out of these blowout games? Bragging rights for crushing a team that they should beat? Parents feel like their kid is on a winning team? Waste of time for BOTH teams.

It needs to go to age based, period! Stop the advantages people are taken by holding back. Play up and not down only! If your kid wants a challenge in the youth years play up in club. Kids shouldn’t be able to play down at ALL!!!

The girls will be recruited by their grad year not their age.bthey might as well get used to the competition in their graduating class as early as possible.
Looks like JY Maget finally gets to play Eagle Stix next weekend. Will decide a lot.
They won’t stand a chance. They got handled by legacy. Coast to coast ball with rosga will not work anymore. Eaglestix by 5.
Can anyone confirm rumor of liberty getting sold to jesters??
maget team dominated this weekend
Exactly who did they dominate?? All the good team weee in maryland

Seems to be the word on the street. Liberty will do really well under them. They are getting close to Yj in talent level but without the drama of the YJ logo

Key for them is adding in a girls director who will put the work in for recruiting, training, and do it for the girls sake not for the cash
So do the liberty teams stay the same but now wear Jesters jerseys?

It’s a business. However, these clubs make lots of dollars off their teams. They can afford to pay a recruiting director, specialized trainers and coaches! They just have to want to do it for the right reasons. Not just the money.

This makes no sense. Jesters already have 3-4 teams in each grade, why would they need to buy another club....
they got an offer they couldn’t refuse
They combine the talent of their 28 black teams - they instantly become a threat not only for yj maget but most of the Maryland teams. There are very good players on both of those teams and so they would have depth and not a lot of weakness. Time will tell what they do.

Have to see how it plays out but Jesters just played a 1 goal game with M and D...if that came to fruition they would match or exceed the talent anywhere in that age group.
Liberty parents very nervous right now
Why would they be nervous?
I wouldn’t say losing by 1 as being handled haha but I will say legacy got “handled” by the Nassau team in the fall sunday leagues so I guess it’s anyone’s game any day right legacy dad? I already heard the excuses from your parents they brought in ringers so please save it

Did I miss a post ? Where did someone from legacy say they “handled” anyone
They might be nervous Because if liberty and jester merge teams they can’t take all girls from both black teams and make a roster of 40 plus girls on one black team. They would have to cut and modify black team that’s merged. That means girls wlll move to B team etc. But that’s if they merge the teams. Blue devils seems to have its own team under flg. Who knows how it will play out and if jesters is really buying liberty.
I get the merge and some girls will not make the top team either way. But that is sports. The top level talent from both organizations should want the merge. That team would be very very good.

As for the girls that don’t make the top team. They would have option to make a really good second team or move on to other organizations . That is the option for every girl, every year.

That second team would be a top li team as well. I wouldn’t foresee recruiting being over looked as they would more than likely be a ranked (<20) team.

Keeping two very good teams would be the safe way for the organization. Creating a great team and a good/very good team would be risk but huge payoff if they perform.

Of course all this is if jesters did in fact buy liberty.
I call bluff. Someone keeps coming back to start rumor about liberty.
Is the Kidd or Fey the new # 1 for the yellow Jacket organization? Tying eagle sticks is nice but overall not a great tournament.

I think Maget is just fine! They are only 12. They tied Eagle Sticks. Not sure how they lost to Philly Blast though....

Kidd/Carrannate had a very good fall season so far but they were playing in weaker brackets so far though...
Agree! Let’s not miss the forest for the trees. For all the girls in the 2028 age bracket, it’s about physical and IQ growth. Anything else is noise.

without “flop” they wouldnt score more than 2 a game

The eagle stix game was the only game that was managed like a summer game, pretty much playing 15 or 16 girls. The other two were close to equal PT.
What does that mean? Are you saying maget didn’t want to win all three games?? Come on, can’t win them all, but stop with the excuses.

u cant fix all the problems overnight bert has alot to fix

u had a team run by a guy that never coached any sport at a competitive level worked with kids or even played the sport

all the friends and family deals will be broken and weaker kids weeded out with no pt and you will have a reel yj blue team by the summer

This is pretty much spot on. At least Bert brings some credibility because he’s actually a real coach Need to get rid of dad manager/coach who never coached or played the sport. Majet only in it to steer kids to her personal training.
Is Bert running the team now? Hope that these coaches step down or get out of the way. Sounds like Good players being held back. Can’t believe that Jen really pushed the kids towards her personal business and yellow jackets allows that. detest to see this organization waste these girls talents.
Looks like this question was answered today in Delaware. Kidd is the new #1 Yellow jackets 2028.
While maget didn’t have as many wins , Kidd played MUCH weaker teams this weekend ranked last spring in the 20’s,30’s and 60,s. Maget played top 10 teams. Maybe Kidd should play top 10 teams ranked and win and let’s see where they land. A lot of kidds games won are against weak competition this fall. Why?
Where is Kidd from?? North shore or westchester??
Jenny is a joke. Just trying to use the YJ jersey to make some $
Caranannte is Nassau

But I thought Bert has been coaching the team for a while now...

Maget got crushed by Hero's and lost to NXT. NXT is not a top team.
North shore? Manhasset/cold spring harbor area??

They need to cut out all the side deals and really take the top girls from each team and make a real number 1 team. Too many girls on maget who don’t belong there but girls on Kidd who should be on there and would HELP them. Unless they just don’t want to go. Either way, the talent is dispersed between the two teams.
A lot of liberty is training with a trainer who coaches jesters. is this a coincidence or is she the new liberty 28 coach? Trying to figure out if the girls know something we don't

No there is no new liberty coaches. It’s definitely a rumor that jesters bought them. No way Gallagher would sell. It’s just a local trainer that a few girls were with for a while and brought their friends to.

Maget ranked 8th last year, Kidd ranked 21 last year. With strengthened coaching staff both are expected to rank higher, particular Carranante. I certainly can see if the put the best girls together, why wouldn't they rank top 5 or even top 3?
What Long Island teams doing the NGLL in April?

First, you can spread whatever rumor you want. Second, you are comparing coaching one of the most competitive high school teams vs. coaching 7th graders? You think you know more than he does or do you just come on here to [Censored] everyone along the way.

They will have a hard time with the top 4 teams out of Maryland and add in Eagle Stix.

They will have a hard time with the top 4 teams out of Maryland and add in Eagle Stix.

Really only 3 top MD teams, Crush lost a lot from last year as kids try to move to a club with a HS program.

That said, not sure any teams in the country can compete the top 4 2028 teams.

M&D, Coppermine, Maryland United and Hero's Green are the Top 4 in Maryland. Crush is #5 at best

No there is no new liberty coaches. It’s definitely a rumor that jesters bought them. No way Gallagher would sell. It’s just a local trainer that a few girls were with for a while and brought their friends to.

Is this training open to all liberty 28s? Seems like a few parents trying to keep this trainer to themselves… maybe share with the rest of our team

The training is open to all not just liberty, not just 2028. Anyone can join! So, don't stir the pot.

Her sign ups are public on her social media multiple times a week and you can message her, email her, text her and ask to be placed on an email list. Stop making excuses for why your kid isn’t there and blaming those of us seeking out other opportunities

Final fall rankings are out. 5 of the top 6 teams are from Md.
Do you think USClub lax got the ranking correct?

The fall rankings are always off. A bunch of teams don't have enoiugh games to get ranked yet. End of summer is the most accurate as it shows all of the teams beause they've had a chance to have enough games. Anyone bragging over fall rankings clearly doesnt know how the system works.

With that perspective, who do you think should be ranked higher and in the Top 10? None of the YJ teams are good enough to be top 10. Certainly not Top Guns, Legacy or Liberty. So who was not ranked correctly or should be in the Top 10, top 25? The Top 5 teams are about right. No NY team is close in comparison.

I'd expect some consolidation to YJ Blue next year. I'd expect 7-9 girls on the current Bert/Maget team to be cut or moved to another team and a couple other girls to be moved to defense (which is a MAJOR weakness) on the team.

what happened in less than 6 months ???????

are girls catching up to your holdbacks , seems fishy

9 kids to be cut?! That's quite a stretch. But some consolidation between Nassau and Maget teams may be necessary to create a top 5 team.
Why would Kidd want to go to maget. Seems like Kidd is trending up and maget has issues. Why wouldn’t maget players be jumping at the chance to join the better team??

Yj really has some holdbacks??

Magets issues are the proverbial magnet that’s eating it’s way through the pockets of the team

It's really unavoidable. Can't think of any team whose best player is from out of state and doesn't practice with them that doesn't have any issues. It's the reality of high-end travel.

And I am not suggesting to cut the out of state player -- the team probably wouldn't even be top 20 without her.

Who's coaching that team?
Goalie training. You need to find people on the side. Ask club coaches or school coaches. Plenty of people out there doing private lessons (find someone that played the position). Goaliesmith is great, but pricy. Their camps come around a few times a year. YJ offers some training, but it's extra and geared at younger players. Shooting clinics will sometimes offer free time, but your kid will get banged up.

Jester offer goalie training within their own club. The lady who runs it Sam Tilts is an awesome coach

I don’t think yellow jackets offer any goalie training included in their tuition.

Legacy offers free sessions with BO goaltending. I am not sure how many sessions you get.

Not sure what other clubs offer (Liberty etc). Best of luck.
Anybody doing APEX? Is it worth it at this agonor just a money grab. By worth it I mean training / experience, not exposure.

Like most things at this age, money grab. Focus on individual and small group trainings. I’d say leading into high school focus on exposure and those fancy Instagram posts and those new Jerseys hahaha

I have heard from another goalie parent, who's daughter is very good, that the APEX camp wasn't worth going to. My daughter has not gone to one.

As a parent of an older goalie, all the camps are mostly reps, even the "best" ones. Goalie camps are really a workout for a goalie, and they may learn a thing or two.
Save your money. For the same investment you could get some at peast seni private/small group training eith a goalie coach. And be much better for it.
Good luck to jesters and liberty when they merge all the teams. Gotta love devouring teams to be the biggest and then tearing friends, teams, and coaches apart .
Don’t waste time on showcases or nonsense till they get older. Use money for personal training

Who are you using for training outside of your teams practices?
Local College kids, former players are good. Goaliesmith camps are great (expensive), usually have about 100+ goalies attend. Remember, you're kid is in 7th grade....don't burn them out.

American select: which is the best team? And did everyone get out on a team? Hearing some names who made it have me wondering if this is worth the time and money.

Black is the top team. Then Red and then Grey.

Not everyone made a team, but I know lots of girls who are turning down red and grey spots so I think over time, everyone will have a chance.

My opinion is that it's not worth the time or $$. DC tryouts only had 21 girls tryout at this age level and lots of girls from B clubs.

My guess is Maryland will be the only competitive team at this age level
Wrong. DC/Maryland had 35/40 girls at Tryouts. Girls from Pride, Next Level, Stars, YJ South, etc.

Save the money unless you have $700 to burn. Carol will still be able to feed the family. Any event that has tryouts but still makes several teams is simply about the $$

3 teams sounds like its very watered down. Most players and parents at this age group know this isn't needed so I don't think you will see a lot of top talent at any of the teams.

It isn't needed at the 2025 level either, but that's s different discussion.

What’s really happening lately I call “instagram teams”. Parents sign up for these things so they can post on Instagram “so proud of my kid xxxxx who made America Select grey team. Your hard work is paying off “. Kids also want to list these things as well.

The organization that has perfected this is LILJ. With the excelsior games, all Long Island teams etc. Remember if you have to pay for a tryout and then pay to compete in the “games” it’s a complete money grab.

Exactly.

Our club director told our 26s this summer, this is how you should prioritize events for recruiting.

1) Club tourney games
2) Prospect Days (#1 if you are a goalie)
3) Invite-only showcases (Best in Class, UA150)
4) Open showcases (Apex)
5) All-star teams (all-American, American select, Excelsior games)
All-American and American-Select have huge value when the girls are of recruiting age. I've seen the coaches lining the sidelines at both of these events. Excelsior games have value for regional recruiting opportunities, especially at DII &DIII level and outside top 25 D1. Invite only showcases do not get the best players and should not be #3 on list. All of this needs to be put in perspective as well. What works for some kids does not work for all. Elite players who play on Elite teams need to only worry about club tournaments and prospect days. Kids not on top club teams need to do a little more to get exposure if they have their sights set on top 25 schools. Kids who are happy just have an opportunity to play college lacrosse at any level will get that chance just by playing club. The priority should be to properly align your childs ability and college desires. Start there and everything will work out just fine.

Agreed that every recruiting path is different.

However, when you look at Long Island kids, almost any kid making AS/AA team for this region will be playing at the elite clubs and getting great exposure already. If this was a Tennessee girls lacrosse board, I would agree with you. However, the girls who make these teams are generally the last ones who need exposure. Also, since some local clubs play 5 or 6 tourneys per summer without a break, combined with prospect days, these girls are really tired and it shows.

Good for her! Girls on LI love her training and she really is very encouraging and makes it fun for the girls as well. She Does not seem just about the money, as it seems for many training things on LI! She’s very passionate about the training and helping girls. She’s Very positive. Congrats and good luck to coach Tilts.

Yes that’s the first time I heard someone wanting a parent coach.

Depends

I’ve been on both sides.

Dad coach all in, extra practices & training. However, you have to deal with the fact that dad kid is gonna be on the field, probably more than they should be.

Non dad coach not all in, coaches multiple teams, bare minimum practice and training.

Maybe i just keep striking out for my kids, who knows.
Are the 2028s happy at Top Gun A team? Why are they not in QUeen of the island? Start thinking about try outs.
Top Guns only sends the younger teams to Queen, not the middle school teams
Same with Jesters.

Agreed that Jesters 28 seems to be a solid team with a reasonable sized roster. Beat all the teams they played on the island consistently. Not sure if had played against Maget head to head but they seemed to do better than Maget in the major tournaments last year. Won't be an easy team to get on though.
Can anyone share who the coach of Top Gun 28 black is and how big the current roster is? And where do they practice? Thinking ahead for tryout.
No Yellow Jackets (Maget or Carannante) at Summer Genesis Origins? They left Jesters and Liberty to go 1-7 representing LI in the top bracket.

Also, can someone enlighten on the naming conventions for Yellow Jackets? Are these people, random LI townships, or...?

Last names of the lead coach
Yellow jacket teams are named after their coaches. YJ Maget, Carrannante, etc. Was that your question?

Thanks. That helps. Sorry for the basic question. Seeing the relative strength of the NY teams in the recent tourneys has this MD parent more interested in LI lacrosse.

Looks like the top 2 LI teams (Caranannte and Maget) will be at US Nationals, along with several others, to compete with the top 2 from Baltimore (Coppermine and Hero's), and the best team in NY after last weekend--Aces. Should be a fun tournament.

The Majet team was a Suffolk team. The yellow jackets started a Nassau team (lomangino). She left and now Kidd and Carrante run the “Nassau team”. It’s debatable which one is the “top team”.

Nassau and Suffolk might be easier to follow and more permanent; just a thought.

Carannante has never beat Maget and the team has not played any strong competition this summer yet.

Carrante hasn’t played Majet since last fall, when it was still lomangino. Majet was good when younger but is no longer the best team on Long Island.

Trouble is what are you going to call the C, D, and E teams? This also allows parents on D and E teams to have arguments over which team is actually D and which is E.

I literally just laughed out loud, you win comment of the day.
If yj kidd considers themselves a top team why are they playing such week comp this entire season. Maryland cup they are playing teams all ranked well over 100. Why aren’t they playing competitive teams.

To make playoffs
YJ playbook
Their A teams have the best talent and should always make the playoffs
B team is always scheduled soft to make playoffs
When A team is struggling then their schedule is softened!!

Are you talking about 2028 or other age group? Tradition 2028 has two teams and great group of girls.
How was YJ Suffolk try outs yesterday?
Not sure, but assume u can tell us.. right?
Shannon is a nasty director and coach.
Come on man. No names.
What’s the word on Sharp Shooters club? Seems like a new organization but with a bunch of notable players as coaches. Curious.

Big plus about this program is they are no parent coaches. It is something they highlighted and different from what other programs are doing.
They are based out of seaford which is a crowded market in terms of lax clubs.

Kyle is an outstanding coach. But like any new club, the key will be if they can get talented players to join.
